Dear people of XDA,
I've had my HTC One for a few months now and I must say I'm really enjoying it. I switched right after I got it to the GP rom, mainly because I didn't like the flipboard homescreen from Sense. But I've changed my mind, and I want to go back. But there's a small problem.
I'm not really great when it comes to installing ROM and stuff like that, so consider me a total noob. Alright, I'll get to the problem.
I can't flash another ROM. Why, you may ask, well that's because I can't enter recovery mode. It gives me an Android logo with a red triangle with a "!" in it. Well, I thought I'd have to flash a custom recovery then, so I tried that. But then again, the problem is my bootloader is (re)locked. Unlocking doesn't work, I've tried HTCdev, and Revone, but it doesn't work.
Now while trying that stuff, I've noticed a little red line in fastboot which wasn't there before. This is what it says:
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]OS-3.62.1700.1 (4.19.401.11)[/COLOR]
Not sure what that means and if it's important, because the phone boots as it always has.
So basically, I need to unlock my bootloader, to flash recovery, to install a new ROM. Can anyone help me figure this out?
Thanks in advance,
Derk
Bump, I was hoping to get some help! Please anyone?

that means you were updating firmware from 3.62.1700.1 to 4.19.401.11, BUT you didnt do the second flash!! so it's in limbo
fastboot rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip <- you forgot to do this again
fastboot reboot-bootloader
are you S-On or S-Off, please post a "fastboot getvar all" excluding IMEI and s/n
Code:
fastboot getvar all

That's the getvar all.
And I'm S-on. That's one of my main problems, I can't get s-off, with HTCdev, moonshine, rumrunner, revone, firewater.... I've tried them all, but none would get me s-off. @nkk71

Looks like a converted Sense to GPE edition phone? you should not have gone S-On!!
Since you're firmware is in limbo, you can flash signed firmware from here: http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/index.php?dir=HTC/HTC_One/401/
Code:
[B]modelid: PN0710000[/B]
cidnum: HTC__001
cidnum: HTC__J15
[B]cidnum: HTC__E11[/B]
cidnum: HTC__203

cidnum: HTC__405
cidnum: HTC__Y13
cidnum: HTC__A07
cidnum: HTC__304
cidnum: HTC__032
cidnum: HTC__016
I would recommend you try 4.19.401.9 not .11 because it's more complete:

then try to get a new unlock token from HTCdev, and hope you can get your phone unlocked!!
I'm on it! Thanks for your help, I'll let you know ASAP if HTCdev unlocking works.

try doing a factory reset in stock recovery (use POWER + VOLUP to get to the menu in stock recovery), then get a new token again, and hope for the best

Haha, when I screw something up, I do it good. Ugh, 1,5GB takes about 5 hours to download, so I'll report back to you when I've tried that.
Thanks in advance!
Alright I'm back. I've got it downloaded but I ran against another problem; the RUU doesn't work correctly.
Whenever I open it asks me to accept the license agreement, I check the 'yes', and press continue. Then nothing happens. Like, the RUU program closes and it's gone.
I've checked if the file is complete and it is, checked md5, also correct. Ugh, why do I always run into so many problem. *cries*

And be careful what you flash/install make sure it's for Sprint (M7_WLS)... Sprint has a completely different partition table than the other M7_U/UL models.
So even custom recovery is different, Sprint forum is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-one
And from the looks of it, there is no TWRP 2.6.3.4 for your version (so you may even be using a wrong recovery too): http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7wls
check the output of "fastboot getvar all" to confirm it's an m7_wls with MID PN0720000 = Sprint.

Hello.
I have a big problem with my HTC one. I wanted to install RUU on my phone. I downgraded hboot from 1.56 to 1.44. I relocked bootloader. After this I flashed RUU 4.19.401.9 without any problem. My HTC started updating of all my apps. After this started to do software update. After reboot phone stock in bootloader with ACTIVE CMDLINE OVERFLOW! (1085 Bytes). Hboot came back to 1.56. New software disabled USB Debugging.
I already unlocked bootloader and installed twrp 2.7.1.1 but when I try to go to recovery phone automatically go to bootloader. I also tried to install RUU again but no luck.
Can anyone help with this problem please?
Thank you.

Try reflashing hboot 1.44.
seems like most Active Command Overflows are related to hboot 1.56
I can't reflasing hboot because I can't use adb
Maybe there is another way to reflasing it without using adb commends?

You dont need USB debugging on to flash an hboot.
Put hboot into adb/fastboot folder and press shift/rh mouse and open command window here
Flash/Install like firmware:
Boot to bootloader:
adb reboot-bootloader
Reboot RUU mode via fastboot:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Flash the firmware:
fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip
After it finishes, execute the command again to complete the flash:
fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip

I installed ARHD 71.1 but I have problem with it. When I press home button phone takes it like I would press it many times and going to Google searching. That happens not all the time but very often. (That was reason I wanted to come back to stock rom). I will try Viper rom now for a change.
@nkk71 Could you please tell me some more how to fix misc partition? I don't know how to do it.
Thanks very much guys for your help.

Problem with home button: when I press home button phone should come back to desktop and vibrate once. When I press this button I feel my phone vibrate about 3 times like I would press it 3 times but I press only once. And do not come back to desktop but going to Google search. You can go there by holding home button for few seconds.

Strange, I'm running ARHD 71.1 on my phone, and have Home button set to "Swipe up for Google Now, press and hold for menu" (in Settings -> Display, gestures & buttons)
and works fine:
1- one tap -> back to home screen
2- swipe up -> Google Now
3- press and hold -> menu
4- double-tap -> Recent Apps

Thanks guys for your massive help. You help me to save my phone. I decided to instal Viper rom (working nice). I take off screen protector. Now I think that caused problem with home button.
Just last question. I checked bootloader and I have hboot 1.44 version. Should I change it to 1.56 or just leave it?
Thank you very much again.

Read nkk71's post to find out the error description. Are you S-OFF and did you downgrade your hboot? If so, then you will need to upgrade your hboot to 1.54.

Since you didn't downgrade it, the hboot is not the issue.
What is the error you are getting with the update? Here are some of the variables that the OTA checks.

you have this error because the bootloader is unlocked. unlocking the bootloader wipe all files in /data/preload so when the ota try to patch /data/preload/SoundHound_Freemium.apk it fail because the file no longer exist
restoring with a ruu will solve that issue.

I tried connecting it with adb but it says

I have downloaded the RUU file
htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_ul_k44_sense55_mr_o2_uk_4-20-206-16_radio_4a-23-3263-28_10-38r-1157-04l_release_353143_signed_2-exe
for modelid: PN0710000
cidnum: O2___001
I executed the file while in Fastboot usb mode. The file gave different messages and told me that going to urgrade the ROM to 4.xx. Then it asked me to press next. When I pressed next it restarted the phone and it again went into the infinite loop on restating. while the PC screen was saying waiting for the bootloader and then after 2 or 3 min it said that error in the USB connection.
the phone says MY HTC in Android USB devices when its in Fastboot mode while in normal boot loader mode its not detected. Also adb does not gives anything when i give command adb devices. However Fastboot devices gives serial number if the device.

I would remove all the drivers and start from scratch. FIrst thing you will need to get working is your adb drivers on your PC. Make sure to be running windows 7, uninstall all android drivers, reboot PC, then plug in the android in bootloader mode and let the OS install the needed drivers.

could you define the difference between "fastboot mode" and "bootloader mode"?
if you are in bootloader and it says FASTBOOT USB (in red), it will detect your device

Yes my device is detected in FASTBOOT USB but is not detected in ADB devices even in BOOTLOADER
since my bootloader is LOCKED. I had tried unlocking it through htcdev procedure but after the procedure and pressing ok on device it again says LOCKED
so I cannot UNLOCK the bootloader and thus cannot install custom recovery.
What should I do now

not sure what you mean, but:
fastboot commands work in bootloader (FASTBOOT USB on the phone screen), adb does not
adb commands work in custom recovery
adb commands work in booted up phone with USB debuggin enabled

As I explained in our pm's you need to be on hboot 1.55 to use that ruu.
To get your phone unlocked I think you need to flash firmware to refresh your hboot. But unfortunately there isn't any available any where unless @nkk71 knows where you might find it.
With your phone in its current state there is no way for you to use adb, since it won't work in stock recovery. I'm considering going out of my way to help you out here but let's see if nkk71 has anything first.

wait, i guess i misunderstood, are you saying HTCdev bootloader unlock is no longer working?? (can you copy/paste command prompt output of that, don't forget to get a new token)
can you also copy/paste the command prompt output of "fastboot oem rebootRUU", do you actually get to ruu mode:

if you can get to RUU mode, you should try to get the RUU to work.
the 4.xx RUUs are OK, but are very picky about PC configuration, USB ports, etc.

Hi nkk71, I had the same problem with my friends O2uk m7, When it comes helpful files there doesn't seem to be anything for O2.
The bootloader unlocking goes fine up untill the the point he selects "yes" to unlock on the phone. The phone reboots but is still locked.
The RUU in question is an exe I used it myself after many hours of of failing with error 12 signature verification failed, with hboot 1.57. it's the same with this situation. Eventually my friend decided to pay for the sunshine app so I could s-off the device and I finally got the ruu to work by, changing the cid to HTC__001 I then manipulated the firmware using 401 WWE firmware to bring the phone to hboot 1.55. I then changed the cid back to O2__001 and the RUU worked.
So I think he needs the 3.xx.206.x firmware to run the ruu.

ah, yes, i think you're right, HTC did change some "stuff" between earlier releases and later ones, so that would explain the signature fail.
but how did the OP end up in this situation? could very well be a hardware problem... do you have any info on that? considering he's S-On / LOCKED (ie never messed with his phone), and a "semi-successful" HTCdev unlock (ie token is fine, but unlock doesn't unlock) does sound awfully familiar to a hardware problem
* what's the command output of "fastboot oem rebootRUU"? does it go to ruu mode?
* how did this happen?? (is it one of those "it happened suddenly" things?)

From our pm's
Then it may be because you need to update hboot first.
Are you running the ruu to fix a bootloop problem?

Yes exactly. I want to clear the boot loop problem. The cellphone is of my client and I dont know exactly what he has done wrong with it. As far as he says that he only cleared some junk files and phone is in this condition.

I'll be honest I was considering converting my phone to O2 stock and capturing the ota's and making a few stock nandroids. A lot of trouble to help one person especially as you think it could be hardware. But it would help the O2 community as a whole so maybe worth the effort.

Well not knowing the background is a real problem.
Do you happen to know the colour of the bootloader? is it a GPE bootloader... this could be another badly done Sense to GPE back to Sense conversion... therefore missing the necessary files/partitions for htcdev unlock to work (even if it's a HTC bootloader)
There is a 4.xx firmware that he could flash (has hboot 1.56 dd Nov 29 2013), though I will not recommend it, as chances of unlocking bootloader will be slim if the O2 RUU fails.
and yeah, capturing all those OTAs for O2, is going to be a bit of work... don't wanna sound selfish, but i'm in no mood for that atm... maybe if i have time on weekend i might consider it, though that is a big maybe

I don't know the bootloader color sorry maybe @hammaad110 can post a picture for us?
I may have a go at capturing the otas if I can make time for it. I won't be capturing them all though may be just the 2.xx and 3.xx with Stock nandroids that would be enough for using the RUU at least and possibility of a reset zip.
Besides I already have the necessary files to make the change to O2. So I wouldn't trouble yourself with that. It was my idea so I wouldn't expect you to go to the trouble of making it happen
As for the bootloader unlocking problem I remember a similar case, although weather we came to a solution is sketchy in my memory. I seem to remember flashing the current firmware fixed the problem. I'll look through my posts and pm's to try to find it so I can clarify it. If that was the case I'll probably capture the ota's to help this guy out and maybe a few others.

SOLVED - SEE POST #5 2)
I'm starting this thread for @Utz2006, he contacted me via PM since he couldn't post relevant pictures/links of his problem because of the 10 posts rule.
So here it goes:
'Standard' M7 with 4.4.3 (bought like this) -
Whatever I tried so far didn't work, system updates from htc don't install, unlocking with unlock_token results in "remote: partion does not exist" . Strangely enough the 'Device serial number' is composed of 12 zeros...etc etc - I have attached some pictures with the basic info...any help and pointers in the right direction will be appreciated.

First thing that is really interesting is the bootloader picture showing "M7_UL PVT MFG RH" instead of "M7_UL PVT SHIP RH". MFG afaik stands for Manufacturing.... You probably got your hands on a test unit, I guess that phone wasn't supposed to be sold on the market
2nd, the Hboot version is 1.55.1. Never seen this hboot version before, we all know 1.55 but 1.55.1 ? Also really strange to see the MID written on the same line just after the hboot version.. Probably related to the PVT MFG thing.
I don't know if your bootloader unlocking problem is because the phone being a PVT MFG instead of a regular PVT SHIP version or because something else. Can you be more precise about system updates? They are not installing or updates are not detected at all? Any error message/code when trying to install an update?
Would like to see your output of "fastboot getvar all" first. Also make sure that only your M7 is detected by fastboot using the "fastboot devices" command. Maybe its trying to send the Unlock_code.bin to another device (if fastboot detects more than one).
Well...it's detecting the updates (actually pestering me all the time to download it) but neither the ota nor the ruu versions install...downloading works, but installing stops somewhere and just goes back to the installed version (not that I am particularly interested in the stock version). Maybe it doesn't work with the developer version...? I also got a reply from Hansoon stating that the bootloader IS unlocked and has s=off. So the next step is trying to flash a custom recovery...when I bought the phone it said actually something about 'refurbished test unit'...which at that time didn't mean anything to me ...

The bootloader is locked (see your pictures). Can you please post your fastboot getvar all? I think it might be possible to ruu but youll need to flash firmware first. Ive seen a post on gsm forum of someone having the same problem

It's S-OFF so it should be easy to convert it to a retail (PVT SHIP) version. I see 2 possibilities:
1- You can flash a custom recovery masked in a firmware.zip file instead of flashing it using "fastboot flash recovery" (btw, "fastboot boot recovery.img" was only working on hboot 1.44, command was disabled on newer hboot version). The custom firmware.zip should be accepted by your phone since it's S-OFF. (This is a well known method used to flash recovery on a locked but s-off bootloader)
e.g:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
where "firmware.zip" is a zip file containing twrp recovery .img file and the android-info.txt file matching your phone info (if you are unsure about that, I can make a firmware.zip for you, just ask if you need.
Once the recovery is flashed you could flash a custom rom of your choice
Problem (if its a problem) is that your phone will still run that strange 1.55.1 hboot, still be a pvt-mfg version.
2-You can update your firmware (i.e from 6.09.401.5 to 6.09.401.10) and then flash the 7.19.401.51 ruu. This is what someone from gsmdevelopers.com/ did to convert his pvt-mfg phone to a "normal" pvt-ship and updated version. (this is what I would personally do).

BIG THANKS for the info and research ! Since I rarely touch the gadgets once they do what I (!) want...
Alray you're my hero - at least for today )
I used the second method and everything worked like a charm...BIG THANKS!
Now the ten thousand dollar question...which rom ? Something not too fancy which is reliable, no battery hog and only minimal Google installs.....any suggestions?

Glad to know it worked :highfive:
What rom type do you want? With HTC sense or not?
I was using InsertCoin 7.1.3 for a while and it was really stable (Android 5.0.2 + Sense 7)
Not tried any 6.0 roms since they were apparently unstable and not battery friendly...
Now I'm using Resurrection Remix 5.8.0 (android 7.1.1) Which i found is the most stable Nougat rom for me at the moment. You can flash the minimalist gapps package on it. You really have to try a few roms to know which one is the best for you.
out of curiosity, is your phone still s-off or the conversion turned it back to s-on ? Does the bootloader still says PVT MFG or its now PVT SHIP ?
...I was so happy that I didn't even look at the bootloader....I'll keep you posted!
As to the rom...is there any real advantage with the nougat version? Or is it more the experiment thrill?

There are some interesting new features like long-pressing an app icon brings up a menu of common in-app actions, split windows, the possibility to use the Pixel launcher... Nice features but I could live without them. The biggest letdown for me is that Xposed isn't compatible yet (not for to long I hope).
Thank you so much for this. I had exactly the same problem as OP and this solved it beautifully.
