[Q] Permanently disable wi-fi - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I have an odd problem... My wi-fi is dead, for sure, and I want to disable it, forever. It just keeps trying to turn itself on, and it drains my battery.
I read on some sites that I have to delete the wi-fi libs from my phone and I'm fine.. but where are those libs? I've found a thread on this topic, this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/permanently-disable-wi-fi-s2-t2604586 , but there's no answer... I just want to know what to rename/delete, as I said, my battery lasts something like 7-8 hours if I put on some music in my headphones, and 13 hours max on idle.
Hope somebody will answer.. Thanks

If you want help you need to provide what ROM are you use, do you use some scripts etc... I am not sure what the problem is, but you can try to do factory reset.

Look, I am using the Stock room, it's rooted, stock kernel. I don't need to fix my wi-fi, it's broken (hardware problem, my bluetooth is dead too), i've tested it, there's no fix for it, but to change the mainboard, and I'm not going to do that. What I want to know is which file to delete/ rename in order to have my wifi permanently disabled. I am using the stock 4.1.2 ROM.

When you turn off WIFI from options it should be off, it will not search network. What is happening to you?

Look, when I say it's a hardware problem, it's a hardware problem, I did test it, the result of the test was that "[NotSet]" driver thing, means my wifi is dead. I just want to know what I have to delete/rename/ whatever in order to have my wifi permanently disabled. That's all.I don't want to repair anything, ok?

Ok, do not pull a gun and shoot at me please. I say, when you disable wifi in options, it should not turn it self on. So I do not know why would you need to remove anything… But you can wait for someone else to answer too.

Well, don't ask me why, I have no idea, it just does, it just keeps trying to turn itself on...

Try to uncheck scaning always available in advanced settings of WIFI.

I don't have any option like that one in my advanced wifi settings tab... I did change "keep wifi on during sleep" to "never", but I don't think it worked out... Where is that wifi driver located? Maybe I can delete it, and then I'm happy...

I have no idea. And I do not know if that will solve your problem, or it will cause some FC...

Then I'll leave it as it is, I think a phone change will sort the problem out . Thanks!

[discovery] Solution for GPS fix on stock based ROMs GB&Froyo

first of all, I'm not sure if this should post on this development forum
but I guess it is a helpful information for the Chiefs here to fix their ROM.
after tones of trials..
I found that, the only way you can ensure the GPS is working on the first time is..
make sure you have select using GPS function before next boot !!
try now and you'll see. nothing to do with gps.conf
nor hidden menu.
If you find your GPS function in current boot is not working..
keep the GPS selected via notification toggle or system setting.
and then reboot.
The key is, make sure GPS function is selected before next boot.
then, your GPS would working correctly !!
hopefully, some chief here could fix this LG induced "bug".
## the same bug is there even for Froyo V10f stock ROM!
please feed back if it works for you also ~
and i hope you guys find it useful..
Of course it has to do with hidden menu. If there are things f*cked up, then a reboot won't help.
Android decides itself when to use GPS, so turns it off, when there is no app running. For that reason, GPS should be always ticked 'on' in settings. This will not drain battery.

Tested it works for fresh install without modifying anything via hidden menu.
just leave your GPS toggle ON before shut down or reboot.
It will working on next boot.
i have found that the gps will work untill u turn wifi on. after that you have
to reboot to get it back.

This is just what I said?!
I meant that if the ROM-baker do something strange to the settings in hiddenmenu, reboot won't help.
-> First, settings must be correct, second, leave GPS always on
For me, reboots are not necessary to get GPS to work.

ok, try turn it off and reboot.
then you'll see it won't work until you leave it ON and reboot again.
I'm not asking if you would leave it ON all the time or not.
I just mean you need to make sure it is ON before any shut down or reboot
in order to ensure it works on next boot up.

if using wifi which mean you can not access the AGPS service via your APN
which mean it would take longer time to fix.
try disable wifi and use your mobile internet again and see..
I am using bulgarian leak v20e and my gps is always off. And whenever i need it i turn it on and it work in 5 seconds.
I never used any Mod or hidden menu and i think this problem is device dependent because i never faced it. I maybe lucky lolzzz

for me it is like squide said.
tested with my friend's very stock out of the box V10f Froyo.
The same trick is needed!
He has never even root his 2x
he don't even know there's a hidden menu.
I tried to enable GPS and try to fix on his phone, takes forever..
then I keep the GPS enabled, reboot.. and try to fix
it takes around 15sec to fix even with no data plan on his phone!
outdoor, open sky and fairly cloudy here..
Cannot confirm, at least with my patched services.jar and my 1.6 rom. Rebooted with GPS off, turned it on and got a fix in 10 seconds indoor.

I'm using your 1.6 at the moment..
GPS OFF then reboot, turn it ON again, take forever to fix.
GPS ON, then reboot, fix in 4 sec. with AGPS.
fix in around 15 sec without data connection.
possibly kernel related?

Try to do the same test with GPS OFF-> power off and battery pull.
As previous fix would affect the actual time to fix with new setting!
let's forget hidden menu first..
because the out of the box GPS setting in hidden menu is working correctly.
no need to modify anything, found actually no need to add nokia server to make it work.
just ensure GPS is ON before every shut down or reboot.
then the GPS would work on next boot! never been so quick too.

if you have fix before, later fix will not show you the actual time needed.
as above I said, try power off with GPS off and a battery pull before restart.
it would clear all hot state from your GPS chip and also clear AGPS state.
from there you'll see the actual time needed.

Yes, a cold fix takes more time than a warm one, but this is normal GPS behaviour. It does not mean that something is wrong there. But I am missing something for sure.
In stock I get a fix in 30 sec. In cm I get a fix in 5 minutes

[Q]Update to 2.3.4 offcial version - wifi, gps, signal problems

Hello everyone,
So i upgraded my O2X like a month ago... and since then i have had issues with it...
I've upgraded to 2.3.4 from LG official updates... and since my upgrade i've got some serious issue's with my phone..
1. Alot of times i can't send any messages, and i have to retry like 2-4 times before it's working...
2. people can't call me from time to time.... it just hang's up from the person trying to call me...
3. sometimes when talking to somebody, the sound get's all wierd like a scrathing sound with other mixed wierd other sounds... it goes like that for about 5-15 seconds.. Then it stops and and often then i can't her the other person anymore... but sometimes it also goes back to normal..
4. Signal is lost sometimes... the signal bar indicates that their's no phone service.... and then comes back after like 5-15 seconds...
5. wifi aint working anymore... can't use the internet..
6. today i needed to use the gps... but when it finally has found the route i need.. it aint "updating" where im driving..... so i have to close the gps, and then start it again so i can get a update of where the car is located.. its like a "still picture" if you get me...
Please note that i have NOT done any factory reset of the phone after 2.3.4 upgrade... as it cant be true that i need to do such thing everytime an update is launched from LG just to get the phone working....
i dont have anything else installed, like CM or even rooted or anything.. its all stock rom from LG...
Anyone has some ideas or clues of how i can fix these issues?
i have met all of these issues as well. i have to add another issue,"wifi turn off automatically".

Maybe a stupid comment of me , but have you already looked at the wifi-advanced settings? because there you can switch off the "wifi power saving or sleepmode".
You should also check all settings because everything is put back to factory settings..
same freaking issues
What a fail from LG. I bought this phone recently for my wife and I was accusing her being crazy!
I changed all the settigns in wifi for battery effeciency to keept it always on no matter what! wifi keeps disconnecting at times. Even during skype calls and needs to restart wifi(deactivate->activate).
Anyone having a solution for that issues? Otherwise a custom ROM is going to solve this? And if so please propose one for simple use.
It is so FAIL from LG releasing a ROM hat does not work as it should with default values. Android is for users also, not just geeks.

Have you done a 'factory reset' since you updated the device?
You shouldn't lose any stuff on the card, only the applications that were on the phone as such. (But better than sorry to make a backup just in case). Oh of course you will lose contacts unless they are synced with another source as well).
GPS> Make sure you leave the GPS turned on ALL the time. It won't use it unless it has too, and if you start the phone with gps turned off, it won't connect to gps properly. Wifi ? er.. perhaps you need to go into the wifi settings and have a fiddle around with the sleep mode? Or perhaps increase the screen timeout so it doesn't keep disconnecting the wifi so often?
Get a Samsung for sure!!

Rom MOKEE OS V0.3 wake lock problem

Hi, I,m using Mokee rom for quite sometime now. From what I experience, this rom is by far the best rom in terms of HD gaming (lag free). But there just one problem that keeps bugging me. During using wifi, when the screen turn off, you can never turn on the screen back again. It seems that the phone power has been switch off & the only way to switch it back again by removing the battery. Has anyone experience this?
yes! this rom does have that problem. I call it "wifi death lock"
solution: dont leave your phone by itself. use any app that will keep the screen awake like miui music app...

Thanks mate, I'll try that...but does it drain battery?
there will be very little extra drain.... give it a try...
At last...I have found the solution to "wifi death lock" problem. Its an apk called "Advance Wifi Lock". You can search that app at ipmart forum because Play Store version are not full version. Just install that app & set the "Auto Disable Grace Period" option to 0 second. Don't forget to add the widget to desktop for your convenience to turn it on when using wifi. @ Zuk/Whyzee, can u add this app to the first post of the Mokee thread as I'm cannot make comment/reply because I'm a new member. Hope this can help...
try PMing zuk. I'll include it in my thread...
UPDATE:
i was using wifi today and didn't face the wifi lock problem. though the screen locked itself wifi wasnt disconnected and i was able to unlock without any kind of problems. Weird, is it?

yes I'm sure.

Have you tried to flash another ROM to see you still have problem?
ok, will try.
Have you installed any battery saving apps, that might be the problem?
No, but as i guess , the problem connected with apps which want to connect to internet, because I turn off internet connection on my phone..
i have other problem with mic, when someone call me their hear me after 2-3 seconds. As I found out, this problem is very spread, but no solution is suggested.
Haven't u updated to 2.3.6? It may solve your voice issues.
Can you figure out apps running in the background that make screen turn on/off?
I installed 2.3.7, but no change, Yes I found that app- it is compass.
Check the settings of that compass whether screen is on/off? Are you using stock or CM ROM? Check also the display settings.

[Q] wi-fi and bluetooth conectivity problems

Hello
I was running cm10.1.3 with wwjb kernel for some time and i didnt have problems until now.
It started on the wi-fi: When i turn it on it keeps turning on for ever and it's unable to be turned on, the icon keeps searching for a network in a loop. so as bluetooth.
I've reflashed the original 20A kdz to stock jb to solve this with a full wipe but the problem still remains. I've also removed the external sd and simcard. still dont work. sometimes the settings menu just shuts down and says that it stopped working due to wifi trying to turn on.
what should i do? is it an hardware problem?
thanks :good:

it just happens sometimes. wifi is working now, for instance. the error that im talking about happens when i open the wifi in settings: it freezes the phone and then a small box appears in the middle of the screen saying :"we are sorry, the settings have been disrupted" and then it closes.
Are you using a custom kernel? If not your hardware might be damaged, considering you had the same issue on both stock & CM roms.
