[Q] AT&T KitKat 4.4.2 Update Failing in 27% - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flash my Note3 to install Stock 4.4.2 update. Do whatever and the system update manually, OTA and pushed by AT&T fails at 27% updating the phone. Anyone is experiencing the same issue?
Going back to root probably tonight and forget about AT&T KitKat. lol

the link to the fix is right above your post

Once again. If someone finds a 28% update failure like myself (like clockwork) on my kit kat update please. Please please let me know. I have my reasons. And yes I know there are fixes. However I'm more interested on 28 from the most seen 27% fail ..I have my reasons. And I thank you all...peace.

It seems your phone was previously rooted. It happens to me as well. I am still waiting for solution from the developer.

So if your phone was previously rooted, but no longer rooted... you can't get the update? Even if I wanted to stay un-rooted, the only way to update to kitkat is by re-rooting and the upgrading?

Oh look... Another thread amongst 6 billion with the same issue...
This has been fixed and gone over many many MANY times... Please go look in the general section.

This post would be far more helpful with some actual links to maybe one or two of the useful threads out of the 6 billion. I searched the general section and have not found any simple fix to take the OTA update from a rooted NB4. However, I did find some other threads on the topic so hopefully these will help others. If I find a better fix I'll post it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696795 - another thread on the topic with a few ideas including getting the phone flashed and then taking the OTA update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701062 - this seems to be the only do-it-yourself fix for the issue that I've seen, but it requires downgrading to MJ5

Except that after I read your post, I was under the impression that there was a simple fix to get the OTA update to complete. There isn't, at least not that I could find. I searched for quite some time trying to find the "fix" you were referring to and out of the six billion posts I only came up with those two links. Also the link in the 2nd post of this thread was useful. However, as far as I can tell, there are workarounds to get the kitkat upgrade, but there is no way to get the OTA update to complete on its own. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
Incidentally, this thread was the first thread I came across in my search for a solution. If I landed here first, others will do the same. That's why I think it's helpful to others if you post a link to the appropriate information. It's not just for the sake of the OP, but for everyone who lands here. However, if you feel like it's better for the community to teach the OP a lesson and force them to search, that's really your call. We'll just agree to disagree.

[Q] Am i posting it wrong?

Hi
I'm new to forums. But I like this one. People are discussing stuff instead of complaining about their devices. I'm learning a lot. But I still need an answer to my question. And I don't think it's very complex. So I thought maybe I'm posting it wrong. Is there anything else one should do to get there post replied to. Like tagging it in some way. It's not a complaint. I really wanna know to be able ro enjoy the forum fully.
Cheers
You don't need to do anything special. What is your question?
Oh cool
Hi
Thank you very much indeed for replying. I was just wondering if it was safe to update a rooted galaxy 8.9. I got the update message in my settings so it's a proper factory official update but I've never done it before so I was a bit worried after having read about some bricked phones and (don't even know what bricked means but sounds scary).
And if you could answer another question as well please that would be really nice.
Recently my tablet crashed in a weird way so I had to reinstall every single application on my tablet. After the crash every single app was force closing and it asked me for the date and the region. Since then it crashes not very often but regularly. So I thought maybe I need to do a hard reset or even reflash the rom. But now, as far as understand, updating my firmware should sort it out for me. Am I right in thinking so?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have not heard of anyone who has bricked their gt8.9 updating a rooted device. You possible loose root when you update, but you can just flash the root.zip again. In worst case you end up with a soft brick, this can be fixed with flashing stock firmware with Odin.
If you are having random crashes, i would start with factory reset. Please dont forget to backup before, because factory reset will delete everything on your tablet.
Update to latest version. Latest versions are a lot better then early builds.
Hope this helps.
Thank you very much indeed.
Will I be alright following the instructions in this forum's guide on how to use the ODIN?

Yes, but i don't think you are going to need Odin. Just click update. If you get any problems, then let us know and I'm sure that there is someone here who will help you restore stock firmware if needed.
This thread has nothing to do with me and I have nothing to contribute other than to say that you're a class act, poisike. Too many people on XDA think it's OK to be rude to newcomers and that obnoxious comments about using search add value to the board. +6 internets to you.

[Q] Lost root after flashing Android 4.3

Hi guys, I know you have tons of rules here and I tried my best to respect all of then by searching for a thread containing info on what in looking for but I couldn't find one. I rooted my phone a couple of years back and have been flashing various ROMs since. About a week ago however I flashed an unofficial android 4.3 ROM by CyanogenMod and after that once I discovered how buggy it was (as per the developer's warning) I decided to flash something else. However I couldn't access my recovery menu no matter what I tried and it looks like I've list root but I can't be sure of that. Ask the root apps aren't working and I got a toast from one of them saying you need root access to use this. Right now what I want is a way to either reroot or maybe there's a simpler way of solving this problem. If I could access the recover mode menu I could use the conventional way of rooting but right now I can't even di that. I'd really appreciate a solution if any of you could take the time out to give me one. Thanks so much and I really hope to hear from you.
I assume you flashed Chas' rom. If you could just read the op.... Chas gave everyone a soultion on a silver plate..

To be really honest I'm not sure whether it was his ROM or not since I got it from a YouTube instructional video. There was a direct download link. Do you think you could please do me a favor and point me in the right direction to the solution? Losing my mind here since it's so buggy

EDIT: If you have read any of the guides for rooting the Moto X, it IS pretty explanatory in terms of saying you must be on 4.2.2, and if you're on 4.4, you must downgrade. Carry on with the following...
I mean, let's all be civil about the whole situation. Long story short, OP, if you're on 4.4, you have to downgrade to 4.2.2 camera update (not the original 4.2.2, but the camera update version of 4.2.2) and then do the rooting, and then upgrade back to 4.4. I'm assuming because you're not able to get root apps to run or get the process to work, you must be on 4.4. If you're on 4.2.2, post what issue you're having in the respected forum for it. Or try searching that particular error via google or the site, and see what comes up. Chances are, others have had the same issue as you and have found out what works and what doesn't.
lets make this real simple for everyone here no more flaming and here is a guide for rooting 4.4 and it also links to all the other guides

What exactly is the "Odin ML2?" Is that the leaked version that we already have root for? The one we don't have root for is the OTA version, which has nothing to do with Odin. Yet another pointless thread.

First off there's no need to be a ****. You are correct that we don't have root for ML2, or the OTA version as you refer to it. The point of this thread is to figure out a way to get root which I think everybody would appreciate, so no need to give the guy grief.
Secondly, while most people received the update to ML2 as an OTA, there were 2 users here who were able to find and post complete Odin packages for ML2 (see this thread and this one), so yes, this thread has everything to do with Odin and rooting ML2. There are summaries of all the official AT&T firmwares in this thread with links to most of the important stuff. Please at least do a search before invalidating somebody who is trying to help the community.

Thanks for taking the lead on trying to figure out root, I think a good starting point might be a list of all the root methods that others have tried and failed so we don't get people duplicating work that we already know doesn't work. I'll take a crack at putting that list together this weekend. It's nice to have a dev working with the i537.
The only thing I'm trying to invalidate is the need for yet another thread about this. There's several already (like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576460) that could have been used to keep everything consolidated instead of spread all over the forum. I also had a difficult time understanding just what the OP is saying as the grammar is not the best. This post seems more like an exercise in cheerleading than a serious attempt. Regardless, since there is so much confusion regarding the OTA and the leaked versions of ML2 I think it only prudent to be clear when posting anything about either one. This thread was definitely not clear.

Let me know what I can do to help out on my end. Really want to get this rolling so we can move forward with 4.3 compatible SS Roms. However, should we wait a little while for news on the 4.4.2 KK that would be pushed out? I feel like we might end up pouring efforts into 4.3 ML2 and boom, KK gets pushed. Either way I'll try to help in any way possible.

Ok, so I'm not going to argue with you because as I've seen in other threads you really get worked up. By I will try to clarify what the OP is trying to do because there are probably others that are unclear on what he is trying to do.
The other root threads for ML2 focus on using existing root methods to try to root ML2, the purpose of this thread is to develop a completely new root method. The idea is to take the ML2 Odin files and decompile them. Once the files are decompiled he's going to try to inject root into it, and recompile it so we can flash it to our phones.
If this works it would be a lot more simple for the end user than most of the other root methods (except for Active Root, obviously). Additionally if he is able to achieve this, it might be a good idea to try to replace the ML2 bootloader with the MI2 bootloader since it would allow users to be able to downgrade to MF1 and MF2 or MF3 if we ever figure out a way to get that back on the phone. Basically it seems like the most "open" bootloader.
I think this is a definitely a worthwhile effort since it is probably our only chance of getting root on ML2 and a worthwhile thread since it consolidates all the information for this specific root method in one thread. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
I personally think that this is a better approach and, depending how it is written, this could survive 4.4 update, seeing how past root approaches were more or less overlays or hijacks, if you will, with it written into the package, it would seem to me, have a better probability to survive.
Also, on another note, no need to disparage someone who is willing to try, a lot of the Roms and roots, on XDA, were written by someone, whose main language is not English.

I have an i537 already on ML2 here that I don't use at the moment. We can use it to test installs as long as devs here would help me if I have trouble restoring it (should something go wrong with a bad install).

Actually, the OP is from New York. When relating things of a technical nature it is very important to be clear and precise. These forums are littered with posts from people who either could not follow directions or who followed directions that were unclear and ended up causing a problem with their phones. If the OP has difficulty with English then perhaps he should enlist the aid of someone better suited to be providing technical explanations or directions for us to follow. That's not a knock on the OP's ability to pull this off, just on his ability to present it clearly and understandably. I was a magazine technical editor for many years, so I might be a little sensitive in this area. I've seen a lot of posts by people who were brilliant at figuring stuff out in here, but when it came time to put the actions into words there was much confusion about the processes they were explaining. It is very difficult to write technical material for a broad audience of varying technical abilities. When writing technically, one should always assume that the readers are less savvy and tailor the information to their level, not that of the writer's. So many problems in here would be minimized if developers would remember that the majority of people need to be walked through things step by step instead of assuming that they already know all about the process. Just my $.02.
Oh, I know he is from N.Y. I was being general in nature, the English as a second language part, been too much of deriding in here, when sentence structure isn't to someone's standards, which translators don't do.
As far as the OP is concerned, yes it could have been a little more concise, but he was only saying what he was trying to do, which a lot of people understood, when it's time for the finished product, that's where it should be concise.
Just IMO.

I did a factory reset to my 4.3 (through Samsung while unrooted) and it downgraded to 4.2.2. I don't know if yours can do the same now that it's rooted, or even if it's meant to do that (when I factory reset my tablet it reset to a blank ROM of the same version it was on), but that could be worth a try.
---
OP: You could dual boot your regular computer if you wanted a better performing linux machine, but I'm sure you know that.
I have the i9295 but I think it would be good the S4A as a whole if we could get more root users. If you need help with anything that needs to be done on a linux computer that yours is struggling to do, let me know. I'm happy to help!

Oh I never did root my phone, that's what I was saying. I didn't even know what it was at first. So now I know about it and want to root but since I updated, I can't. So you think if I do a factory reset I can get root? I am willing to try and go back to 4.2.2 and then just update when there is a root method for ml2 4.3. How would I do a factory reset? Sorry, like I said, I'm knew to all this.

Oh, right, I misread your original post, sorry. You *may* be sent back to the version your device shipped with - I was on my i9295, I wasn't on my Bauhn tablet though. A factory reset does mean that it's set back to the way it was in the factory, so it should do. It would be worth a try if you really want to root your phone, but I would definitely advise backing everything up either way. A ML2 root is being worked on at the moment but some other nice XDA users.

I am curious about something with the whole black line issue. I think I may have another idea. Please input for this will help confirm. What if it has something to do with downgrading the bootloader with autorec? Can anyone confirm keeping JB and installing xdabbebs 24a bootstack did this also?
Could it possible have something to do with autorec? Like I state before I am not pointing blame, but I read alot of post where people stated this has happened to them where they used autorec for kitkat and then installed? Maybe there is something where kitkat isnt working well with autorec downgrading the bootloader. If you downgrade any software with a newer upgrade wouldnt that cause instability within the kitkat itself?
What I am thinking is maybe the downgrade of the bootloader is causing over heating since it wasnt made for kitkat? Maybe it sounds stupid but what if? I remember having the black lines happen once before on a gnex I had and if i recall at one time you had to downgrade part of the software to gain custom recovery. My phone in fact got the black lines. What if we find a way to reupgrade the back to kitkats original bootloader and see if that fixes the black lines.
I know there was one case where someone claimed they got it after the OTA for kitkat, but could there be a possiblity that autorec was used in this case also?
I figured I start this possibly here to find a cure for the black lines possibilty. Please delete if not ok here.
Just copy paste this in either Q&A, or better yet the g2 general thread for the black lines. Its labled as permenant screen damage. There people can respond to it that have he issue.
Because this will be moved or locked with it being in the Dev section.
Definitely an idea though. I never used auto record. And I haven't had any issues yet. I think the vast majority of vs980 users used xdabbeb or okbi's method, but its worth a shot tossing it there as some sort of poll.

I would go to g2 general. And to the black line thread. That's where they are trying to trouble shoot it.
It won't hurt having it here. But there are 20+ people over there that have that issue hanging out in that thread.

I've used AutoRec a couple of times and and don't have any line issue.

You should go back and check the thread in general and the latest post by dr87 and gloat a little. While it may not be autorec looks like he believes it might be bootloader related and how it is being tricked to we can still use custom recovery. I thought your theory was in the right direction.

I seen that and people bashed my idea of a possibility. I wasnt bashing autorec or anyone and they took it the wrong way.
