Okay, I'm rooted, have TWRP installed and I was able to flash CM 10.2 and Gapps successfully. But after initial setup etc, when I downloaded and installed the Kindle Reader app from Google Play, it will not startup. It crashes within a few seconds.
Is there a specific version of the app I should be using? My wife will not be a happy camper if she can't read on her tablet. Odds are, I will be buying her a new one if I can't fix this.
Thank you in advance for any help given.

Same problem happened to me mate. i found out that when you install Gapps, the kindle reader app, kindle photo app, and amazon appstore will not work, unfortunately. i solved the book problem by signing into my amazon account on my PC, buying the book there, then transferring it to my kindle. If you go to manage kindle, and go to "actions" on the book you buy, one of the options offers to download the book file to your PC, then transferring it to your kindle.
good luck

Have you tried updating to CM 11? Also go to settings, apps, all, scroll down to the Kindle App, clear cache and data and force stop it and then reopen it.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I restored my TWRP backup and went back to rooted stock. The Kindle reader app works and my wife has access to the apps she wants. She' s happy so that's good enough for me.

Hi all,
I've rooted my Kindle Fire 7" HD but I'm unable to install any apps via the Google Play Store. SuperSU has been install successfully & I've also upgraded it to v1.3. Root Checker Basic confirms that I do indeed have root permissions. I followed the tutorials posted by @prokennexusa & the app loads up fine. But when I attempt to install anything, the Play store closes. When I attempt to reopen it, it will close straight away. I have to clear the app's data before I can load it up again.
I had done this previously on a different Kindle & all was fine so it's probably me missing a step. Anyone got any ideas on what that missing step might have been? I'm running v4.1.10 of the Play Store. Is this the latest?
Cheers for any tips you can give me,
Lee
Make sure you're using the right GAPPS for your OS. I recommend flashing Kinology ROM, as it includes GAPPS and SuperSU. It's just stock with extra features, so it works really well.

I often get a message on Google Play Store "your device isn't compatible with this version". If I root my Nook HD + will I be able to install those apps? Any help with his question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

After I rooted my nook hd+ I was able to install a lot of the apps that I could not before. There were still some that I couldn't but the majority of them I was able too.

Thanks for the reply. I did root my Nook HD + but still get the same reply "not compatible" the apps I want are Bank of America and Wells Fargo. It's looking like I'll have to do without.
On another note, I also tried CyanogenMod 10.1 at one point and those apps did install but I found CyanogenMod 10.1 to be to unstable and went back to stock. Guess I will have to stay with plain old Nook HD + Stock.
You can try sideloading the apps that works in a lot of cases where the app says it is not compatible.

I don't know how others do it but what I do is download the app I want to my phone and then use Titanium backup to make a copy. Then depending on size I either email it to myself or transfer it to a PC and then to the Nook.

I GOT IT! Thanks for the info...
I used a slightly different method, I downloaded "APK Fetcher" from google play to my non rooted android phone. It copied the apps that I had wanted and that were already installed on my phone. It placed them on my phones SD card and then I transferred them to my pc. I transferred them to my rooted/with extras Nook HD Plus. Then simply installed them. They work perfectly!
Thanks for everyone's help and many thanks to XDA.

Rooting my Nook HD Plus
I am able to download some apps that were not compatible previously by sideloading them. This is my first post, you can find instructions for sideloading in numerous threads that have way more expierence than I do.

I'm running CM 10.2 on my Kindle. Whenever I run the Kindle app it crashes instantly. I've tried clearing the cache, clearing all data, rebooting, backup and restoring from Titanium, and reinstalling from the Play store. Is there a fix for this?

I've been having this problem since the Kindle app upgrade on December 17th came out. I was on CM10.1, but I've upgraded to CM11 and it still does it. I think something is wrong with the way the new version works. The best thing is to go back to an earlier version, but unfortunately I can't find it anywhere, and I don't have any back-ups!
(Edit - here's a post with the older APKs - try one of these on for size. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576131)
Kindle app on rooted Kindle has a workaround
Kindle app crashing has a workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48928053#post48928053...
Short answer:
download Build.prop Editor from the Play store and use it to change the ro.product.manufacturer line from Amazon to Samsung.

Awesome. Downloading cm10.1.3 right now as we speak. Have you had any other luck with any other custom Roms? I've only tried 10.1.3

I've run 10.2.1 (stable) without any issues at all... and am currently running cm-11-20140104-SNAPSHOT-M2-otter.zip (snapshot). No issues that I know of but it's my wife's Kindle and I certainly dont push it or load it up like my own Nexus 7.
Hi All,
Sorry for being a n00b here... I have a Kindle Fire HD 7, with Sytem Version 7.5.1. I'd like to install the Google Play Store. I should be able to, right? I used the SuperSU tool that roots your device. I had installed Google Store and thought it was working. Then when I tried to install an app from the store, App Store crashed. Now if I try to install the app store apk it just crashes over and over... Not sure if it's relevant, but since then I've done a factory reset on the Kindle. I was glad to see that SuperSU seems to have survived the reset. Anyway, the first question is, where is the best place to get the app store APK file? I don't remember where I got it last time, but I remember not being sure if it was the latest version. What is the latest version. And more importantly, how do I make it run on my Kindle? Many thanks for any ideas. -steve
I have an Amazon Fire 7" 5th Gen. I just got it this week. It's running Fire OS 5.1.2. I've tried using the super tool to install the Google Play Store and it won't let me login to my account. I even completely rooted the Fire and still couldn't sign in. I did a hard reset and sideloaded the 5.1.2 firmware from scratch and followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/installing-google-framework-playstore-t3216122 and still can't sign in. I've even sideloaded com.android.vending-5.9.12-80391200-minAPI9 and com.google.android.gms-7.0.97_(1791429-070)-7097070-minAPI9 manually and still can't sign in. I've checked both the host file (only has 127.0.0.1 localhost listed) and Iran the adb command giving com.google.android.gms permissions and still I can't login. I'm at a loss of things to try.
The tablet also keeps showing me the notification "An Application requires an update for Google, Requested by Google Play Services" and when I select that notification it takes me to the store and asks me to sign in which I can't do. Is there a newer version of one of the apps that I need to manually download and install?
Appears to be resolved
I appear to have resolved the issue.
I went to rootjunk's site and downloaded the ALL GAPPS package. I installed several of the GApps from that package including the PrebuiltGmsCore.apk. I then went through each Google app again and cleared the data and cache for each. Rebooted, and then I was finally able to add my google account and access the play store.
Not sure exactly why it was so screwy but at least it's working.

I've just managed to root a Kindle Fire 5th gen using Supertool however I'm having the same issue when trying to sign into the Play Store.
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff. Could you explain how you installed the GApps? I downloaded gapps-5.1-2015-05-23-24.zip from rootjunky but I'm not really sure where to go from there.
Would be a great help!
Thanks.

Scratch that. Managed to install it using Flashfire.
What do u mean using flash fire gaps there all 5.1 cm and below ? whaaat... Can ya step by step ? I've reinstalled this thing n trust so many APS n **** now the kindles had more use than a cardboard box near the soup kitchen. And still have exactly the same as the op
This worked for me. Amazon Fire 5th Gen 5.1.2 rolled back from 5.1.2.1.
Get root.
install flashfire.
download gapps-5.1-2015-05-23-24
flash zip using flashfire
delete data from google play services in manage apps from settings
reboot
login and its good.
note: it used to be the older login screen that was gray and blue and then after flashing it was the newer login screen from what looks like android 5.0?
Thankyou I'll give it a try now. I hope this works lol seems promising but ready to be declined again lol
Thankyou respect and credits you boss!!!
