I have installed both AICP and C-ROM and I have not yet hit LTE even once. I pretty much always get 3G. My wife is sitting right next to me on her Galaxy S4 and is on LTE. Am I missing a setting? I've only had my G2 for a week so I'm new to some of the differences. I have had the Vibrant, S2 Skyrocket, and the S4 as my last 3 devices. Help! I miss my speed!

You might get more responses putting this in q&a, rather than general.
Have you tried toggling airplane mode off and on?
Have you gone Intl networks and set it at LTE/CDMA?
That's about all I got aside from a bad Sim card. Haven't really seen many people posting about this issue in the five months I've had this phone.

I had this problem before. Only way to fix it is to do a full stock restore from a .tot file. Then you have to do a factory reset within settings, and your 4G will come back. Full wipe don't work from custom recovery. Then you can root and do custom recovery again.

Um, hi.
Last night I purchased a new Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell. Of course the first thing I did was jump over here to XDA to do some required reading. I proceeded to unlock, root, and flash froyo. All was working fine, until I found an App on the ROM to do a factory reset. There was still a lot of bloatware on the phone so I figured that would be a good idea. After that, I've begun experiencing low signal issues in certain places. The phone can still connect to the Rogers Network, and I have the correct APN settings (I get 3G), but in many areas my phone loses signal. Before the data wipe I could make calls just fine out of my basement but now I don't get signal down there. Is there any way to fix it? I know this sounds pretty vague, however if you need any more information I'll be happy to provide it.
Cheers!
(By the way, I love this phone!)
A lot of people have complained about losing the 850mhz frequency when upgrading to froyo on the bell sgs, so if you can't get 3g then you just lose reception all together, there is a fix for it, I believe its in the android development section, search in there, I saw it in there yesterday, search 850mhz lost signal and it will come up for sure, there's a fix for it

Ah Alright. I've been reading around these forums a bit and I came across a few of those threads. I wasn't sure if that was my problem though, I'm still pretty new to the phone. Thanks for the help!
No problem, glad to help

From what I am reading, it doesn't look like there's a froyo fix :/
Does that mean I should downgrade back to eclair, at least until Bell releases official froyo? If that's true it's unfortunate
did you read the 850 sticky topic?
just go into the service menu
and play with the band selection options
that should get your 850 back
My phone is SUBSANTIALLY slower than my wifes Sensation, some of which I understand is because I am using a phone not designed for T-Mo's network, but what is the optimal setup for this phone to run on T-Mo's network
thanks
For me running the t-mobile T879 stock rom and radio on the I717 seemed to work best. I noticed better data speeds but I only ran it for couple of days before I sold the I717 and got my T879. Just follow the instructions in tomin.fhl's thread in the dev section.
I'm also getting horrendous speeds, using stock rom and radio for the i717. Also tried blaze and got about 10kb's more in downspeed. my average speed is about 80Kb/s

I'm running an i717 on Tmobile also. Was able to fix my speeds using this-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931679
1. Must be on a tw rom
2. Go to service mode by using *#2263#
3. Go to wcdma per. and click on wcdma 850
4. Signal bar will be replaced with a circle with a line thru it.
5. While about 5-10 seconds. Your signal bars will return but you will have no 4g.
6. Hit settings button, go back and click on wcdma all and 4g will come back.
7. Do a speed test and profit.
8. Every time you reboot you must do this every time. Only takes about 30 seconds
Currently running objection UCLE2. Works on the Black Star Rom also.
holy cow, thanks
I get WORSE service using this. I tried flashing other modems as well, but then my sim stop working. I'm beginning to think some i717s just don't work as well as others.
Hi I hope you can help me out or know someone who can. I have a i717 note unlocked and rooted using straight talk service with a tmobile compatable sim card. Before root I was running 4.0.4 now im on 2.3.6 but my basband say UCLF6 my talk service is great it shows a data signal (g) or (e) edge but it wont let me connect says data error. I need a detailed guide step by step (pictures) of the tutoral if possible. I managed to root my device but there are still alot I need to learn. XDA ROCKS!
THANKS. Hope you have the time to help me out.

I did the JB upgrade 2 days ago and completely lost any LTE connectivity. I set it to LTE/CDMA/EVDO and it just turns into gray signal bars....no LTE at all. Ive done numerous reboots and still nothing.
anyone have a solution?
I'm using the one that includes .../GSM/WCDMA. It works for me with LTE.
just tried, no success.
was reading on the Razr forum that i might need a new SIM card
I'd complain to Verizon even if your warranty expired. I think if an update breaks your device, they should still be responsible.

I went to verizon, they forced me into doing a hard reset, which made it work.

Had the same problem and could only get 3G. Got 4G back by using *#*#4626#*#* and set my radio to LTE/CDMA/EvDo. Then took the SIM card out and put it back in. 4G came back and has been working for the last 48hrs.
I had to do a hard reset as well, but it worked.

Great tip. This just restored my 4G, too. Sure beats doing a hard reset IMO!

Edited..
Since lots of ppl already reported that this method doesn't work...
I just read this post in redmondpie..
and I saw the comment and one of them is trying on S4 Sprint..
II really want to try this.. but my wife brought her S4 Sprint with her so I couldn't try this at the moment..
Maybe someone would like to try this out and report this discovery?
so here's the Link:

Be very carefully doing this on sprint S4 it may brick it cause this process only works for ATT- T-Mobile GSM phones only
I also tried it to many times with no luck I wish this worked.

Hello. Some one try to flash radio firmware from verizon sgs4(it has unlocked gsm) ? it work for nexus but vice verca
This method DOES NOT work. Sprint BLOCKS US GSM carriers. To get an international unlock you need to call sprint and ask for one. At this time there is NO way to get US GSM signal on the sprint S4.
EDIT: Apparently this will make your phone unable to connect to a femtocell. Be careful
Do not try this mod. It will mess up your phone and how it connects to the Sprint Airave.

Not that I am aware of. I am trying a complete factory reset of the phone. I will post my results when I can.

Please let me know how the factory reset works out for you. My phone is officially messed up. My 3g was not working at all. I would only connect LTE. After troubleshooting forever with sprint, my 3G is working again but it is very slow. I also notice that it does not auto roam to Verizon at all.

Updated: I have rebooted the phone next to the booster and then did a firmware update, PRL Update and rebooted the phone. It appears to be connecting again.

How was the speed though? It may show "3G" but my guess is that it's really 2G speed or something on TW.

I've had massive issues with my 3g after this method. The 3g is super slow and I know something is not right. Is there an app that displays the cdma band that the phone is currently operating on? I read somewhere that it screws up the phones ability to access the cdma 850 band.

What we really need to do, is find a way to undo this. Even though my phone appears to be working. I really wish I had never tried this and could go back.
Yes I hope someone figures it out. Reflashing the stock software is not enough

Update: My phone appears to be staying connected to the Airave and getting a very good signal. Data speeds were never really affected just terrible connections. :good:
I tried this also and it messed up my 3g speeds, after much searching, reading ,and experimenting,i did a SCRTN which restored modem ,lesson learned

There is another thread that is similar to this for unlocking the sim. I tried it, and possible messed my phone up. I was getting slow 3g speeds and mobile data drop outs. I fixed my issue by doing a complete factory reset/ clearing NVRAM. This is how I did it:
Dial ##786#
Choose Reset
Enter MSL
Here is the thread I mentioned just in case one of you wants to look at it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683
##786# as far as I know will restore your phone to stock .
##72786# should reset your network settings. Just make sure you are in a working 3G coverage area or have a WiFi connection or it wont re-activate. This method does not put your phone back to stock...just reactivates it on the network.
Sorry for the unusable info...
But i got this news from Sprint Htc One thread, that they are able to unlocked the device by simply rooting the phone and sending a line in terminal...
Is it possible to do this with ours?
thatotherguy.. said:
1. You should be rooted
2. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
3. Run Terminal Emulator
4. Type "su" (excluding quotation marks) and grant it superuser permission
5. Type "am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity" (excluding quotation marks)
6. You will get menu on your HTC
7. In that menu, select "API", then scroll down 'till almost end and select "simlock"
8. Reboot the phone and hopefully it would accept GSM SIM
9. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
10.In the phone information section(the first one) set preferred network type to something that is GSM specific: "WCDMA Preferred", for example. The phone will switch to GSM mode

Hello,
I am having some problems with my AT&T Galaxy Note 3. I have not been able to figure out the cause. I flashed Dynamic Kat (newest version) on my phone and it is having problems making outgoing calls. I show 3 bars 4G LTE and when it switches to 4G while making a call, the reception goes to 0. I wait and the phone shows that it is not registered on a mobile network. The weird part is that sometimes the phone can make an outgoing call. I have tried two different ROMs and so I think its probably the phone's fault. My mobile network works.
Another symptom is that sometimes when I restart the phone, the phone says it does not have reception and I have to take out the battery and try again. Are there any settings in the samsung hidden menu that would cause this problem?
Data and everything else works, it just that when it switches to 4G while making the reception goes to 0.
I had the MLG version of Kk installed on my note 3, and had great reception. Untill I used Alliance rom, which has the newer modem on it. I flashed the MLG modem on the Alliance rom and have had great service again. You can give that a try.

That could be it. I did flash Alliance rom before. I'll update with results when I have time to change modem.
Having the same issue on 2 unrooted phones after updating to the newest Kit Kat ROM. Most of the time it shows 2 bars and I can't make calls or receive them. Calls go straight to voicemail without missed call notification. Phones are now worthless in low reception areas. I had to resort to Voice IP using Ring.To and my home wifi to get my incoming calls.

A couple things to note. Samsung phones radios are weaker then other phones (at least that's what at&t told me lol)
2nd thing to note 4G LTE and 4G are both for data not phone calls. Phones calls I believe are sent over the edge network.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My phone always drops down to 4G/HSPA+ to make or receive calls. I have never seen it use edge during a call.
Samsung radios may suck, but they've gotten a hell of a lot better. I live in a pretty strong LTE area and with my old Samsung Galaxy Nexus I could barely get LTE unless I was directly under a tower. My Note 3 holds onto LTE all day long in areas where I barely got 3G with my Gnex.
My only complaint with the Note 3's reception is when I'm at the gym. It's a steel/concrete building so it's near impossible for anyone to get a signal in there, but somehow my Gnex managed to do it. It was only 1x, but that was enough to send texts. My Note 3 says screw it and cuts out completely. I was on Verizon with the Gnex and now I'm on AT&T (obviously), so perhaps the different frequencies used by the carriers has something to do with it.
