[Q] No 4G option on Lumia 1320 - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says I have a Lumia 1320 with a 4g sim which worked fine on my galaxy s4 but on this , when I go into mobile settings it only has the option for 2g or 3g ?
I have flashed the latest UK rom because it came with a Thailand rom on it
Is there a rom I could flash that has the 4g option enabled ?

Are you sure it supports your 4G bands? If you bought it from outside the region (sounds likely) it might not have access to the 4G band(s) that your carrier uses.

So its the hardware ?
I thought if I flashed a Uk rom it would change the radio ?

The phone only physically supports certain radio bands. Re-flashing *might* let you use, say, 1800MHz for LTE (4G) where previously you could only use it for HSDPA (3G), but if your phone doesn't *have* an 1800MHz radio, you're out of luck (and maybe even if it does, depending on how the hardware is configured; i.e. if the radio does the relevant encoding and collision detection and such internally than it will be tied to a specific cellular technology).
Note that I have no idea *what* bands you need... but most mobile operators only have a single LTE band. You should check and see if it's one your phone offers.

Where can I buy an unlocked Note 3 N9005 that would work with AT&T?

I have a Note 2 that I bought from AT&T. I want to upgrade to the note 3 but I want the N9005 version because I believe that it will be able to use G4 LTE signal from AT&T. The only place that I can buy the unlocked N9005 version is at Negri Electronics. However it only sell the 16 gb version and I want the 32 gb version. Is there any other place in the U.S.A that sells the N9005 unlocked version?

I don't think there is such a thing like a 16gb note 3. At least not yet.

I'd buy what you're looking for in a heartbeat - if it existed. So far it doesn't. At least not ln any of the N3's for the UK, EU, or Latin America that have been announced. The Korean S-800 SGS4 supports AT&T's bands so their N3 probably will also. But the Korean phones have funky TV h/w and a funky MMS system that's different than Western versions. Rogers' (Canada) version will be compatible with AT&T LTE and may be closer to "virgin" than AT&T's version. The challenge is warranty service both because you'd have to send it to Canada for repair (assuming Rogers' services a phone for a non-subscriber) and because Knox prevents resetting the warranty status if a non-standard ROM's been flashed. Speaking of which, you'd probably only be able to flash Rogers' ROMs via Odin unless their N3 was a "pure" i9505 capable of using international ROMs.
And as someone above mentioned there's some question as to what "unlocked" means with the N3 as there are now regional limitations on top of carrier's locking phones to their networks.
If I find a true international N3 that works on AT&T's LTE that's not regionally SIM locked I'll let you know. Until then I'm sticking with AT&T's version and hoping they haven't molested it too badly.

Will the N9005 work on the Rogers network in Canada? I have no idea what these bands and frequencies mean, I just know that I need LTE to work.

You can't just say "N9005" and expect to get an answer. "N9005" refers to generic Snapdragon 800 LTE capable version of GN3, but each country and carrier in the world has different LTE bands enabled in that Snapdragon's SoC radio. Find your Rogers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
It operates on bands 4 and 7 - none of the Euro countries' carriers work on band 4, as you can see from the list. AT&T USA, T-Mobile USA and Rogers CA should be LTE cross compatible in most coverage areas, but not all.
If you buy N9005 version with unlocked bootloader - later, when someone makes Odin compatible with GN3 you will be able to flash Roger's LTE modem firmware to your N9005, no matter which country it is from and what LTE bands it currently has enabled

Some carriers, which operate on dual band LTE use one band for upstream, and the other for downstream. If that is the case with Rogers you will have to have a phone with both bands enabled, to get LTE service from Rogers. However, even if that is not the case and both bands 4 and 7 are independent - Rogers has towers all over Canada, and in some regions those towers will operate on band 4, in other regions it will be band 7 and in some places towers will support both. By getting a phone that supports only band 7 you will greatly reduce your LTE coverage area. What percentage of Rogers' network uses what band - those details are publicly available, so you can either Google it or just call Rogers and ask. I would recommend against getting a phone, that supports only band 7, unless you plan on flashing Roger's modem to it later.
This not quite correct. A band, by definition includes both the up and downstream frequencies. Only one band is used at a time. Rogers happens to use band 4 and band 7. One is not reliant on the other. If you are in an area with band 7 coverage (most of Rogers LTE coverage has both) you will be able to use a N9005.

However, each carrier owns only a small portion of the spectrum in the bands they operate on, and some carriers do practice using a single band for one way traffic only, in an effort to ease the network congestion and load balancing. I'm not saying it's Rogers - I have no information on that particular carrier, but some carriers do do that. I'm just saying for carriers, who use such practice, in order to get LTE service your phone's modem must have both bands enabled, otherwise it won't register with the network and you won't get LTE service at all.

The OP needs to take into consideration that If he buys from an online retailer an international unit, this unit will need to be activated in its intended region before he can use it in the states.

I've never heard of that. Seems like a problematic setup since the RF properties of bands can vary so much. Seems like you would get in a situation where you have up but not downstream or vice versa.
Yes, you would need a N9005 from Asia, not Europe as those are region locked.

that is a valuable information, which a lot of people, watching this thread could use, not just me. I don't think it will be considered as advertising. People in this thread are looking to buy international GN3, which will work on AT&T in US. If the phone is region locked then it won't work. Therefore, listing the countries, where there is no region lock would be very much relevant to this topic.

N9005 from HK or Singapore (perhaps others too) will work.
The South American N9000 are region locked to South American, North American, carribean etc. SIM cards (western hemisphere).

Verizon HTC 1 to T-mobile

Hey everyone. So i have a question that i can't find on here so im going to ask it. I have a Verizon HTC one unlocked. The sim car works fine and i can do everything on the phone with the T-mobile sim card. The issue is its always Edge data. Is there a specfic APN i have to use? something im not seeing? Does anyone else have this issue? It is a stock factory HTC One, nothing custom.

I don't think the Verizon model will have the correct radio frequencies to use T-Mo's LTE or HSPA+ network, hence you're stuck on Edge. If you're staying with T-Mo, I'd suggest selling your current One and buying a T-Mo specific HTC One.

Global Network: EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900), HSPA/UMTS(1900/2100) aGPS capable for E911 emergency location, aGPS (assisted), sGPS (simultaneous), Standalone GPS, eCompass, GLONASS
T-mobile uses the 1900 Mhz base band and the HSPA as well. So i don't see the issue in that one.

From what I can tell, nobody uses the dual 1900/2100 to achieve 4G like TMO. The UMTS referred to on that phone is for worldwide use, not US. So while it may have the frequencies, it is not set up to use them like TMO. Your software and firmware are set up to work with Verizon and overseas, not with a competitor like TMO. TMO refers to theirs as HSPA+. However, it might work on the new "reframed" 1900 bands (which is called HSPA), but those are not very highly deployed. Unfortunately, I don't see LTE on that list of frequencies. The TMO LTE is really great. EDIT: I mean TMO LTE, which is also 1700/2100.
I suppose you could try unlocking it and flashing the TMO radio, but there is an entire thread on trying to unlock TMO frequencies (in that case on the developer version), and no one has figured it out yet.
I concur that your best bet would be to sell the phone and get a TMO model.

Yeah thats what im thinking. I need to contact and t-mobile rep and see if the re-farmed LTE here. Ill call and ask.
Alright so i called the rep and he said the area i am has been re-farmed to the 1900 range and i should be getting at least HSPA/3G but im not. Very odd issue

Verison use the CDMA, maybe that's why you can only use 2.5G network, just like some phones in China, they only have GSM in common

yes but this phone has 4g lte already in it which accepts the sim card. Also, i have seen other verizon htc ones with t-mobile and never had a issue. I fell i may have to use a custom rom.

What he is referring to is that what Verizon uses as "3G" is CDMA technology. So although they (T-Mobile and Verizon) may be on the same frequency they're using totally different technologies. Just because it has a sim card slot for a Verizon sim doesn't mean the device will be compatible with another carrier's sim. A custom ROM would not resolve this issue. Your best bet would be to sell this device and purchase one from T-Mobile. :fingers-crossed:

I know what the best way to go is but i am very curious as to what is really keeping it from going out of edge. baseband? Is the TMO and Verizon radios the same? these are things i need to know! >.<

My understanding is that the devices run on different systems for 3G and different LTE bands. You wont get more than GSM compatibility (GPRS, EDGE). Hopefully it is something that a software hack can fix but if you read around all the HTC One forums you will see no one has found it. Right now it is not possible.

My question is that HTC makes phones for all T mobile verison sprint the same, so I believe its just software problem that we cant use Tmobile 4g lte on Verizon unlocked phone. SO does anyone have any comment for that?

It is hardware not software that is the issue. The T-Mobile variant has different bands than the other variants including Verizon. T-Mobile is a GSM variant while Verizon is a CDMA variant. Here is a comparison of the specs for the variants.
CDMA and GSM technology requires the antenna to be done differently. If they are not programmed to use those signals. Nothing you can dox will change it short of putting a new antenna in.

Because you can only unlock GSM. Cdma uses the serial/esn number of the device.
Has there been any update on this? I called tmobile and they said it was simply because I couldn't put in the APN. So, there's no chance that rooting the phone and putting a tmobile rom on it would fix the problem and let me get more than edge speeds.
I myself have been wondering the answer to this. The device might seem the same but under the cover they are different. The actual daughter board which the camera, vibrating thing, volume rocker, power button are connected to are fairly different from each other. The CDMA variant is not compatible with the GSM variant. Not even by adding a CDMA daughter board to the GSM motherboard and vice versa, the are made quiet differently and will not be able to use GSM bands on a CDMA m7

[Q] Would changing the ROM on a Lumia 1520 enable different frequency bands?

I have a Lumia 1520 RM-937 and would like to enable the AWS band 4 spectrum that the RM-938 has.
If i flashed the RM-938 ROM would this enable AWS on the phone?

based on posts with the L920, reflashing it with a different variant will enable AWS on your 1520, IF you can get it to flash.

It appears as though that isn't the case with the 1520. At least in terms of the different LTE bands (I didn't try AWS).
In addition to not having AWS, the 937 rom also didn't have the required frequencies to use TELUS mobility LTE.
After flashing to 937, I was still stuck on Telus' HSDPA+ network.
Anyways, at work today I was looking through some of the perks we have and I found corporate plans with Rogers that have unlimited talk/text and 5 gigs of data. Rogers also uses the network that the 937 ROM is designed for. I swapped over to rogers, just waiting for my SIM in the mail.

cool! sorry it didn't work for you. I should have been clearer:
The phone needs to have the hardware support for the antennas as well as support in the firmware. Typically, if a phone has support for AWS LTE out of the box, you can flash it with the variant that also includes AWS HSPA+ and it will work. If the radio hardware was never put into the phone to support the frequency you want, no amount of flashing will ever get it to work.

I have a rm-937 model but onl;y seem to get between 3g-4g-H+ never lte and in spots where I got LTE with a lumia 1020, only getting 3g on my 1520.
Any advice?

the phone was on Verizon network
I am from Israel and using the local orange network
the phone works just fine except I cannot enjoy the 4g (LTE) network
when I put on LTE mode I just get no reception at all
maybe it is some frequency issue? (in Israel the LTE runs on 1800/2600)
how please can I solve this issue?
should I Install an appropriate rom for my network (where and how can I get it?)
or is it a hardware fixed frequencies which suitable for Verizon only and cannot be changed?

Verizon is a very US specific carrier they use there own CDMA mobile technology different from the GSM network world wide network.
Some Verizon phones are GSM capable to allow call roaming in different country's they call these "World Phones" but they do not offer any 4G services outside of the US.
Basically you will as far as I know only get 4G on a CDMA network in the US. Unless someone can correct me. :good:

So what's the problem? Why can't Verizon's 4G LTE devices roam internationally? First, there are few LTE networks built outside the U.S. But the main reason is that Verizon's LTE network and devices are not compatible with any other wireless carrier's network because the spectrum frequency and the specifications developed for its sliver of wireless spectrum is different from any other carrier in the world.

SM-N920R4 is it compatible to GSM AT&T and T-Mobile US?

Based on the specifications, it has GSM bands used by both, however SM-N920R4 is US Cellular CDMA...

Just from looking at the specs for this specific device it appears that it will work on all of T-Mobile's LTE bands but it is missing LTE band 17 support for AT&T. The 2G and 3G bands will work just fine as they match the specs for the N920T/N920A from both carriers. The only thing I am not certain of at this time is if you will have to have the device unlocked to be used with another carrier. Were you using this device on US Cellular or did you just pick this device up recently and want to use it with AT&T or TMO?
