Sprints roll out began today... - Verizon LG G2

In the official capacity we are now last. Right on schedule VZW.

I bet just to troll us, they announce it tomorrow but the release will be at the end of the month

Not sure why everyone is all fired up about it. Not like 4.4 is much different than 4.2
They didn't even give us art.

Such as? Maybe I'm ignorant and the signs are right in front of me, but I haven't seen anything that makes me excited to receive it.
I'm aware once the radio sources are dropped and they are put to work a bit then the sod and random reboot issues should be taken care of, but that's about all I've seen being said.

Have you ran the "leaked" VZW KK build?
Kitkat is a whole different world,Completely Night and Day. Amazingly smooth, its lightening fast and extremely stable.
Art or not, this is a legitimate huge performance step forward.

Nah, I haven't played around with it yet. Honestly Ive never had any issues with the stock speed. Once animations are turned off.
Guess its one of those gotta try it to understand it thing. Coming from my last phone being the first gen droid RAZR, I've never sat back and wished my g2 had more speed.

its alot nicer for animations, snappier, the whole kitkat look to the notification bar, fine tuning under the hood, tap and pay, cloud printing. give it a go

We probably won't see an update till after the g3 and s5 are released.

I suspected qtr1 was out of the picture when the drop date of the m8 was announced. Vzw doesn't like to have anything current impede the new baby.

Yeah I said that on another site and someone said updates don't affect phone sales... when the average consumer doesn't know of updates and Verizon and OEMs market "latest android software" many people will want it.

It's so......awesome that the phone that was never displayed in a store gets the latest update. How can anyone want the g3 when LG cares little to get phones updated.
Htc obviously did something to convince VZW to update their stuff yet the g flex is rocking 4.2.2 and the same with ours.

I don't think it's LG in this instance. I think it's Verizon, and I think it has more to do with the m8 launch than it does with whether or not the update is ready. They don't like to have anything mess with the new revenue stream.

Agreed... Think about it: would the company make more money by keeping everyone's android system slick and up-to-date, or by enticing those with outdated devices to pine over the newest phone, with the NEWEST OS? Having worked customer service for a VZW contractor in the past, I personally know that making their customers happy (with no direct profit) is at the bottom of their list.

Bluetooth LTE will be nice to have. I've been waiting for it so I can connect to my Garmin watch and do live tracking. I need at least Android 4.3 to do this. (which VZW skipped )

I can't believe Verizon still hasn't pushed 4.4 update,this is ridiculous :banghead:

You are not far off the mark. It is also possible that they are not going to update the phone to 4.4.2. Just because LG stated they would be for all variants does not mean Verizon will do it. I came from an LG revolution which at point LG said would get ICS, needless to say that phone is still only running 2.3.6. We guessed that VZW cancelled the update. LG support stated that it was working on a upgrade and that it was in testing and then nothing...
I hope I am not reliving things again. If I am, at least the base phone and stock OS are really good.

I don't think so because there's already a stock leak build that works 100 percent. I think they're just waiting and they're gonna merge the knock code in and release it as one build rather than releasing 2 separate ones

4.3

Is anyone else kind of annoyed about these other phones that are skipping 4.2.2 and going straight to 4.3? I know there won't be any major differences but I feel like we bought the latest and greatest but are getting shafted. Maybe I'm being anal, I just find it hard to believe they will update us to 4.2.2 and then 6 months later send another out for 4.3. Maybe I'm wrong. Thoughts anyone?

You think so? I sure hope not. My retired evo is still getting (unofficial) updates. Hope the fun continues for longer then just next year.
I'm sure we will see 4.2.2 soon and I'm hoping we also get 4.3. The phone should handle it right?

I'm happy with 4.1 and bought my one not expecting a lot of updates. I like the finesse Sense gives the phone that AOSP always lacks. That's just me, other people like AOSP and really it's the wrong phone for that

The S3 was also supposed to get 4.2.2 by the middle of this month. Well we didn't.
It's all rumors and stories until it actually happens.

I really really like sense 5, I keep wanting to go to AOSP based Rom, but when I do I always End up missing certain things about sense, which is really weird cause I hated sense on my 3vo, and the more I think about it it's not a huge deal just wanted other people's opinion. And I suppose if I really wanted updates I could have gone with a nexus instead

Like what was mentioned before, the new androids aren't too different. I mainly want the upgrade so we can get ports for all those roms that the GSM version has. Apparently that's the only thing stopping us...the lack of a CDMA 4.2 kernel

Someone should leak 4.2.2.

So it is pretty clear to me that Sprint was sent 4.2.2 to start to test before the plug was pulled and they were told to wait for 4.3. You know it, I know it, Sprint knows it.
So while we wait for 4.3 I think that someone who knows someone's neighbor's sister's ex-boyfriend that babysits for a Sprint tester should do their best to get a hold of the unfinished 4.2.2 and release it to the masses.
Thank you and good day.

I'm gonna go ahead and go with, you know nothing about the process of which HTC and Sprint use to test together. I would say that they probably never got it, and Jason MacKenzie mentioned that they were skipping 4.2.2 long after the decision was officially made.

So basically, to satisfy your flashing fancy, you want someone to intentionally breach an organization's opsec and potentially put someone's job in danger? Nice.
You guys are really jaded and unnecessarily serious around here. Coming from an S2 and S3 I have seen tons of leaks on Sprint. Granted this is HTC and not Samsung, but still. There is plenty of reason to think that there is a 4.2.2 build specifically for Sprint somewhere out there.
There are ways to leak things and keep your job, apparently, or leaks would not exist.

Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Probably a minor update. Haven't heard anything on Elevate unless Sprint is keeping htc out of the loop
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Last rumor that circulated said the update for 4.4.2 was going to be around 01/24/14 +/- so if I was a betting man I'd say it is a minor update to fix the issues with the 12/18 update. That and the HTC site that they say provides "real time updates" on OTA development says sprint is still in the integration phase of the 4.4.2 update (certification through carriers and google would need to go pretty fast to make it out by wednesday). I wouldn't put too much trust in HTC elevate though, the entire site seems to be a "pat HTC on the back" community.

It's interesting to see they keep doing this type of small updates instead of go for the big deal. Unless they are addressing some serious problems(like security issues,) they should test the heck out of their one release and make it solid, instead of pushing one and the other just trying to fix the bugs in the fix they just released. it's a PR nightmare to me for these kind of activities.

I joined elevate by follow a link from here, and found it little use. I can't find any valuable information, but just a bunch of people discussing pointlessly. Anyways, HTC is a phone manufacturer, not like LG or SS with all the material, parts, a lot others. So I doubt they can come up with anything revolutionary. They have better software functions, that's true.

(VZW) VS980 Kitkat thread (ota captured and successfully installed)

The guide for manual install is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699123
Big v thanks to @xdabbeb
Ok kitkat was pulled off the servers and xdabbeb was able to install. It successfully.
Kitkat hasn't come yet to the verizon model but the kitkat thread is too cluttered and confusing. A couple guys agreed with me that a new thread just for verizon users would be easier to follow so we don't get all the other info mixed in. So discuss expected release dates, what you think verizon will change, how much more boat they'll add (I'm being kinda negative About this) etc. And once it officially out then we can see if anything is different than the other versions since they tend to change it a little than other carriers. Maybe we'll get something nice that other carriers didn't. Who knows.
And If there's any verizon employees that's like to drop a hint for us. PLEASE DO we won't tell

Great job for starting this thread? wish someone would start a sprint only thread it's very confusing since there seems to be so many varieties of the lg-g2
sent from my lg-ls980 there are many like it but this one is mine
maybe if XDA actually listened to it's members, we'd have had the G2 forums broken up into each variant as a separate board MONTHS ago....

Maybe we'll get something nice that other carriers didn't. Who knows.
And If there's any verizon employees that's like to drop a hint for us. PLEASE DO we won't tell

Thanks for starting this thread. I agree was hard finding info for VS980 on other thread.
I have a feeling verizon will keep the ugly blue icons. I would even settle for jb blue rather than the ugly ics colored ones ha ha

I think Google is requiring the white icons as a standard now but you never know with verizon lol. They seem to break all the rules especially with how different they made the g2.
The 20th date sounds reasonable. I hope they can get it by then because I hear lots of people estimating April but I hope they're just exaggerating Verizon's slowness

I would love the white icons. It's grown on me. The blue seams kinda childish

Oh ok. But was that verizon that did it or Motorola? Because lg switched to white. Hopefully they'll keep them. I like the white color or at least a blue on black status bar. The gray one sucks

Lol sorry. I made sure to put that "not released yet at the end" because of this I would put it arty the beginning but than the rest of the title won't show. Sorry about that

I can't wait to get kitkat, but sometime in the future I'm going to end up modding this phone and kitkat breaks the Loki exploit. :/ I really don't want to go back to a safestrap sort of boot like with my razr. Hopefully the devs can find a way around these stupid "fixes" by lg.

Thanks OP. I just joined Verizon and the g2.
I hope kit Kat has the white icons, but if not, isn't full root and a custom recovery available for the g2?

From what I've read elsewhere it seems the KK update borks the Loki implementation used by most of the root exploits.
I can't imagine it won't be bypassed but at least initially it won't be the same as it has been for JB.

Supposedly if you are rooted prior to taking the OTA update, you'll retain root in 4.4. Although if you manually flash the stock 4.4 rom using the LG Flasher tool, it'll wipe and remove root. I'm not sure if they were able to actually root 4.4 yet either (needs verifying).
Still even with root, they haven't been able to get a custom recovery on it yet because of the Loki patch. The G2 is a popular device, so I'm sure it won't be long.
Thanks guys. I'm still researching everything I've missed the last few months

maybe if XDA actually listened to it's members, we'd have had the G2 forums broken up into each variant as a separate board MONTHS ago....

HTC Android 4.4.4 Discussion [Released 10/28/14]

Seems like there is an update scheduled for our phone's in the coming weeks...

Neat

I'll believe it when the update hits my phone.
Doesn't matter to me. I just want to know what difference will it really make? Is this an update just to keep the users happy and make them feel like HTC got their back?
I'm not knocking them or anything, because I certainly don't see myself choosing another manufacturer any time soon...but why claim that 4.4.4 changes were baked into 4.4.3, then give it to use anyway?
5.0 is more worth the wait than that 4.4.4

It will probably address some of the issues some users were experiencing with wifi calling and gps.

I hope so!
(of course this will only matter if I have a device on which to enjoy it)

We need to wait for a Sprint OTA.
Exactly,
Everyone its the firmware we need and also i can only speak for myself but i want a new radio too! the int rom is nice to have those new features but without the updated firmware and radios it really makes it not worth it.
I am sure the OTA will be here any day now. Fingers crossed
Cheers
M8 regions that have already been updated are seeing improvements and expansion of the ability of this camera. The MEGA thread is reporting improvements.

Looks like Verizon is getting the 4.4.4 tomorrow shouldn't be much longer.

Must be that WiFi Calling fix slowing down the update.
Ah yes, that's probably it. Forgot about that since I stopped using it.
First time for everything....[emoji1]
