Keyboards for HTC One M8 - One (M8) Accessories

Hello there
I tried to make a quick research of a sliding bluetooth keyboard case for the M8 but apparently I got no result.
The only thing I can find is the Alibaba's keyboard for M7, that is not sold unless you order some hundreds items.
I'd really love to have a case with a built-in bluetooth keyboard, wouldn't you?
Any news is welcome.

I just tried my HP Touchpad BT Keyboard that I've had for a while and it worked perfectly. So this is good news because it wouldn't work with my DNA without a custom kernel. In the past a lot of standard keyboards have not played nicely with Sense. So I suspect this means we are good to go with most BT compatible keyboards that play well with Android & AOSP generally. Cool!

Good to know but I was more into a sliding case, so I can bring it with the phone. Just in case.
Sadly enough I think I won't have my wish realized.

I made a request to Boxwave on the day the M8 came out to create one of their Keyboard Buddy sliding cases. Maybe you should do the same so they acknowledge there is real demand.

Done!

Submitted a request too.

Submitted a comment, I have all the want to a physical keyboard.

Took a quick look at the site. Is there any request button there, or do you have to send them a email? I'd do my part in telling them there's a demand.

I already own this keyboard that's on this thread (since a year or something). But it is not as convinient as this one I'm showing for iphone.

Actually if we can get such a keyboard for hd2 will be amazing..
The older post seems to be dying anyway. I've been searching for months for a slide-out keyboard for hd2, but there seems to be no such product. I guess that, because the original W6.5 OS didn't have good support for such peripherals, there was no interest.
What has baffled me, is that there's no "generic" solutions. There are a lot of BT keyboards, but none with an adaptable slide-out case.
I wonder if maybe this could just be modified to attach to an HD2 case...? I can't imagine it'd be that hard.

Menu button

Please tell me you can get rid of that ugly black bar menu button in apps. Is there a way to route the menu button to holding down the back button or something? This will decide if I buy the phone or not.
Yes it is possible but at the moment only of you root. The option was available in pre release software so it's always possible HTC will include the option in a future update.

How can you not purchase the phone over a silly problem as that?? anyways rooting is an option also wait for htc to update it
It's not a dealbreaker to me but I understand that it can be for someone as it takes away some screen real estate. For the same reason software buttons are a dealbreaker to so many people.
Because its annoying and takes up real estate on a screen that is only 4.7". I'm confident it will be fixed via software update. But if would sure piss me off until then. Assuming this thing ever gets released I the US... I'll still buy

Both of these. It's annoying as hell and I don't want to "hack" my phone to get rid of it.
I'll wait and see if the US models have the option to get rid of it at launch. If not, different phone for me (I'm not going to wait for a software update that could "possibly" happen).

Honestly... If this was the only new phone coming to the market this year your argument might make sense. I dunno his opinion but for me. I like having a consistent menu button and not having onscreen buttons... Now when you have this and the galaxy s IV among other phones coming out or currently out... And like some of the stuff with each, and one has something that you know aggravates you, it could be enough to send you to a different phone.

I am the one who made the mod to remove that menu button on the screen and reverted back the option to map it on the back button. Apparently it's just a bug and they did not remove it. So expect it to be fixed/back on the next standard update when the phone is already released globally.

I thought exactly the same way and even cancelled my pre-order because of that but after playing around with a mates HTC One I was like.... woah this ain't as bad as I thought it would be and ordered one again a couple of days later.
Trust me with the screen as big as it is you end up with the same usable space with the menu bar as the Nexus 4 and I am sure a firmware fix will be coming in the future and/or apps will be updated to match the google guidelines (facebook are you seeing this!!!)

Where did you hear it's just a bug and you expect it will be fixed in the next update?
Like I said I was the one who made that mod in the development section. Obviously I already know how it functions/why it's not showing up in the menu/why it's not working in the stock ROM. And the whole code was in there and intact. It was just not updated so it's not showing itself in the menu options.
If I translate the code in english language it goes like this.
Back menu option: Hey are you "HTC One-debug"?
HTC One: No I am "HTC One"
Back menu option: Sorry then you can't use me I'm only available on a device named "HTC One-debug" not "HTC One"

I asked about where did you hear the information about the fix in the next update not kiddie speak for explaining how you fixed the issue.
1. Properly designed apps that use Google's design framework will have an in-app menu button. So no black menu bar. Vast majority of apps now won't require the black bar.
2. HTC got rid of it on the One X when user feedback said they wanted it gone. I see no reason to assume they won't do it again if enough people say they don't want it.
Like I said it's just a minor bug. HTC just skipped updating this one piece of code for it to work on the production units.
Meh! I give up! lol

He was merely explaining how the bug worked to point out that mapping Menu to Long-Back option is, actually, meant to still be there. HTC simply forgot to make sure that scripts in all places were talking about the same device.

Flaming isnt necessary really
People use their phone differently, its the same reason why theres never a "best rom" or a rom with the "best battery life"
And to the other comments, its likely not to be patched so that they have more reasons to sell a "developer" version
I may have a bad news related on HTC to bring back button remapping options.
Just saw engadget chinese mention in their HTC One review about that Google MIGHT be the force behind that lead to HTC sudden removal the remapping option from HTC One's newer ROM because Google insisting the menu button must somehow be 'observable' on sight.

Any luck on this?.Please tell me you're still workin on it :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:. I know you said you probably wouldnt have time but i thought i'd ask. My daydreams wont work in landscape because prism is portrait. All the daydreams start in portrait even though i'm docked, pretty much useless . If i use nova its all good but i really like sense
Anyone else
I'm pretty sure it can be done, the Media Link mode makes it a landscape launcher.
Bump for the landscape. I can live without the 7 home screens. Has anyone heard any talk of anyone working on this? I use phone in the car docked and night stand docked as much as i do holding it, it's a shame that HTC doesnt develop and include landscape.

[Q] HTC One keyboard T9, Android 4.3, Sense 5.5

Hi everyone! I hope I am writing this one in good section.
Could some of you guys tell and have someone noticed that there is no more T9 (Phone) keyboard layout on Android 4.3, Sense 5.5?
I am going crazy, I was using that kind of keyboard on HTC for ages and now...
Does anyone have any Idea how to get the keyboard from sense 5.0? Thank you.

I've used the T9 keyboard since I bought my NOKIA 3210 back in the last century...LOL My fingers are too big for the tiny keyboard.. Only part of the upgrade that was not good if you ask. I think I might buy one from playstore, since I can't seem to get used to the full keyboard... Hopefully somone in here might do some magic
Nice to see I am not alone ? Have you tried any of keyboards from market and did you find any of them usefull? I tried couple and I did not find anything I like ?. Yes, that is only thing I find not good. I don't like typing any more on my phone?
You can try to push the apk of the keyboard of sense 5, but you can have issue and, maybe, a flash of rom.

I wrote to HTC and got this answer...
Thank you for contacting HTC.
Kindly note that unfortunately we have no information on why was the T9 keyboard deleted from the phone after the last update, however I can assure you that it is not a problem of your phone but an HTC decision to take that option out.
What we can do, is to send your complaint to HTC as a comment/suggestion for T9 layout to be added back as one of the keyboard options. It is possible that HTC will add it back if we get a certain number of those suggestions on our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as through our e-mail support. Until then, you can only try to download a third party application that supports T9 layout.
If you have any other inquiries, don't hesitate to contact us again.

T9 keyboard 5.5 sense
Hey !!! About time !!!
I am not the only person in existence who has flashed several Roms only to realise ALL sense 5.5 Roms have NO T9 keyboard !!
Can someone PLEASE let us have the sense 5.0 T9 apk, ppplllleeeaaasssseee !!
All other play store T9 boards are useless, i have flashed the Honami Sony xperia Z1 T9 APK, which is as good as it gets

Thanks guys
I've attached the sense 5.0 version of the keyboard. If someone could edit the package name, or whatever you need to install this alongside the sense 5.5 keyboard, that would be nice.
I tried editing this with VTS but I couldn't get it to compile.
I hope that someone could make this (upload Sense 5.0) keyboard as apk and we would be able to download without rooting and custom ROM...
Thank you guys for trying. I hope someone here who is very, very familliar with those things can make just an apk to download to HTC.
Thanks.
I really miss the T9 keyboard as well! Can't understand why they would remove it?!
I'm so glad I didn't get the update yet, and I'm definitely not updating so long as there isn't a Phone Pad keyboard layout.
What a retarded decision to remove it. Hope they "decide" to put it back in.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium.
I have to send in my phone to replace the camera and asked them (my service provider) if they could downgrade my phone as well. They couldn't promise anything though.
HTC said that they are sorry but I have to get used to not having T9. Which pisses me off. I bought the phone because I'm used to sense, it's T9 keyboard and everything HTC has done.
T9'd from the darkest M7.

I've tried to create an apk of the sense 5 keyboard that can be installed alongside the 5.5 keyboard, but I can't get it to install on my stock rom. I've never done stuff like this before, but someone has to! Atleast I got it to compile...
Maybe it'll work on custom roms? If anyone wants to test it, feel free to do so!
Edit: Feels like I've been poking around and changing everything by now and I still can't get it to install properly on my phone. Where are the experts?
Might be worth you all moving into the 21st Century instead?
Seriously, though, why on earth would you use a T9 keyboard when swiping is SO much easier? Not flaming, I'm honestly curious

Swiping is a pain in the rear and it's way too easy to make mistakes imho. I have compared my typing speed with friends and all of them are slower with whatever input method they are using, so I guess I want T9 because I'm good at it and it works!
I'd like to hear about any news concerning this as well...
I've tried "Smart keyboard" and "Perfect keyboard" they all got the T9 option, but they're all not as good as the one from HTC.

However, i agree with EddyOS
Not for flaming, but T9 is so old, and, probably, htc will re-add it with a new update.
And, i'm fastest with a qwerty keyboard with and without keyboard respect T9, this depends from user/user

I do find that odd, because I uninstalled the dot view app before I got the case, giving me the ability to have the case and screen on. the touch screen works perfectly fine with the case on, so I dunno why they took out the swipe to answer/decline call
why we dont do sth with that
Hi.
Anything new in that case?
I'm really frustrated. HTC lies on their website that functions works on desire 510. Then u buyit and in the manual you read they don't really work.
So many ppl can write complicated apps here d maybe someone consider solving this problem. As someone here mentioned there is no obstacles why these functions couldn't work. Problem lies just in software.
Thank you
