Tether work around for 24A Verizon KitKat leak - Verizon LG G2

I found a tethering work around solution!
This has only been tested on stock Verizon Kit Kat leak. I stumbled upon it by accident... by desperately trying everything i could think of to get tethering working.
Step 1. Follow the directions in this op exactly - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338
Step 2. Open the mobile hotspot app and enable. You will have the message saying provision has force closed. The on/off toggle will then be greyed out.
Step 3. Click on configure below the on/off toggle. Change either the password or the network name. Press save.
Step 4. The app will re associate with the provision automatically and tethering will enable! The on/off toggle will be lit up blue.
I have confirmed it works by connecting devices to the tether network and opening webpages. The only catch is every time you want to enable the tether again you have to repeat steps 2 thru 4. Change something in the tether settings AFTER enabling and provisioning fc's.... the tether will enable every time.
Rock on!

ok followed the instructions. Deleted the old two files, coppied in the new one. I actually clicked the apk but it said it was unsuccessful. I rebooted, but now the hotspot apk is gone. any ideas?

Ok, this was working yesterday, but now I get no pass through. My tablet connects to the hotspot but I can't browse.

Maybe try clearing hotspot.apk data and cache? Haven't had any issues so I'm not really sure....

Did you delete the hotspot apk? The provisioning apk and odex file should be deleted but the actual mobile hotspot apk should remain untouched. Also make sure you set the proper permissions on the new provisioning apk before rebooting after you stick it in the system app folder.

I must have deleted it, but I copied it back ad still does not work eve after a reboot. I click on the apk and it won't successfully in at all either. Last thing I could think that may work is restoring from titanium backup. Would someone be so kind to send me the titanium backup File of there Mobile hotspot app?

Like a boss! Thanks OP! It was quite annoying restoring an AOSP rom whenever I needed tether.

While hotspot is including in my corporate line with them. I do admit it is one of the best tether applications for tethering. The built in one's seem to lag from LG, even the one on my Sprint LG OG.
But has anyone thought of using an apk with root perms to moves the files and then set perms? Then reboot. I used to do that with certain mods on my OG with camera mods etc.

On Phone PRL options - Able to work for HTC One like HTC Evo LTE?

Hey everyone, I am curious if this could be ported to our phone from the HTC Evo LTE for those of you who have devices already, unlocked/rooted, could you check into this?
This was a great tool for being able to update your PRL on your phone to one of the corporate ones that allows roaming on Verizon with 3G as opposed to 1X. Not sure if it would require modification or if it should work as is.
I used this since where I currently work my commute takes me through a few dead zones and it allows me to keep 3G connection since Sprint doesn't have complete coverage out by my office.

I'm hoping it works as well. As a test I did the same build prop change to my Evo 3D and it worked.
Maybe ask viperboy to make the build prop edit on his One and see if it works
It should work fine... We already have EPST working on the Sense 5 port so I'm sure it's no issues.

Flashed rom and PA Gapps earlier and restored missing apps+data only via TB. All working quick and smooth (except sound of course) which I can wait patiently for. This is too sweet.
Edit: also, don't have LTE here to check either, but 3g works fine. I'll check MMS in a bit
Edit again: mms working perfect over 3g at least. One thing though, I just noticed... I have no camera? Is this supposed to occur? Was a clean flash and everything.
Is the phone app able to search out side of the contact list like the nexus 5...? (You type pizza and it gives you the number to the closes pizza store)

I'm using what's recommended in the developer's site:
For HTC M8 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECHED
https://sites.google.com/site/wifitetherrouter/home/device-configuration
Note that for the M8 if you set the encryption to wpa2-psk the devices that connect to it will connect with wpa, and vice versa.
I will try those again and will try with various devices. I couldn't get my Nexus 7 to connect online but it would see/connect to the network. Thanks

My Verizon Mobile App-Crazy Permissions

Curious if anyone here uses this app. And if you do, I'd suggest you strongly reconsider.
The newest update is asking for camera permissions to take pictures or video. There are also reports in the reviews of this app asking for superuser permissions when placing a call!
I personally think it's a load of crap for an app like that to have those type of permissions! I mean, the whole permissions of that app overall are over the top to me.

I am able to connect my laptop via wifi as well. I did nothing different, just enabled hotspot as usual...

No, just go into the navigation panel and hit hot spot like all Android devices. Hotspot isn't disabled like it was the the SGS3.

Most of the AT&T share plans include tethering when in the past tethering was only for certain plans or extra. So maybe it depends on the data plan? If your plan includes it, you shouldn't even need Foxfi.
I have an unlimited data plan that I have had for the past 5 years.

WiFi tether not working for me

I figured it out. Under developer options change system info to ART and you can turn on the tether/hotspot on with FoxFi.

I am using Dalvik and Foxfi works fine.
I am wondering if it has something to do with the unlimited data plan I have.

wifi tethering works fine for me. i disabled every single at&t app as well as the mobile hotspot app. the native wifi tethering from the settings menu then worked fine for me. im on an old 3GB LTE data plan as well.
Well, I got it to work for about one minute before it got disabled by that damn ATT mobile hotspot in settings. How did you disable it? I tried and it won't let me.

when you are in the app launcher, hit settings, uninstall/disable apps, then choose all the at&t apps. they wont uninstall, but they will be disabled. seems to work fine for me?
I did that and am still having issues with it. I can get it to work for about 20 seconds after restarting it.

Wifi Thether
Hey any further updates on this ? I just have got S5 but haven't activated it yet because wifi tethering I am using on my S4 is essential for me. Did anyone find a workaround yet ? Thanks
