[Q] Camera Force closing - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seems there is an app that may be causing it. Not entirely sure, but when I first boot the rom clean, the camera works somewhat fine, I can take pictures. However, once I sign in and update/install my apps, something makes the camera force close. I can get it open sometimes for a few seconds, but then it dies, sometimes randomly, sometimes when I push the shutter key. Now, what I have found so far, is that if I lay the phone down so the screen starts out black, allowing light sometimes crashes it, and sometimes makes it more stable, it can take pictures if I do it this way. But it seems to do with the lighting, if it's real bright, it will close instantly. If it's dark, I have more time. I can use other camera apps just fine. It started when Sense 6 came out, tried InsertCoin and RevHD, both wiping system/cache/data and starting fresh. Looking on the forums, but not seeing many other people having issues...anything I can do to see what's exactly going on with my camera app? I like the HTC sense app unfortunately, it's pretty decent. Haven't seen any others that really do the same, does anyone have any recommendations? I've deleted all the pictures as well, still no luck.
Rage, found some files on the SD card (didnt wipe internalSD), it seemed to help, but whenever I hit the shutter button, it dies now. Bah. Although I notice the sound of the shutter getting stuck and going "tick tick tick" like it's about to take the photo. Maybe related to sound.

Possible camera slowdown fix?

Hi,
I seem to have found a way to stop the ridiculous lag on the camera, although I'm not sure this will work for everyone.
I have a non-standard version of the Camera software installed (I think it's the Touch version from somewhere on here - not sure who, I'm pretty new here so please forgive me), but I've noticed that if I start the camera up, then put the device into standby for a few seconds, then turn it back on again, the camera is *far* more responsive, and this is for both still images and for video.
I have no idea why this is - someone more technically intimate with the Kaiser can probably shed some light on it, but it seems to work for me.
The only downside I can see is that it makes the low-light compensation stop working, but in situations with plenty of light there's no difference whatsoever in image/video brightness.
Andy.
Ya, weird how this works. This work around was discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365345
camera is ugly?
my camera quality is so ugly i have one of the newsest camera software installed. i dont mean the lag or anything i just mean the camera quality is so blurry and unclear i have sharpness on high and styll :S
when i press a camera button to take a picture and it auto focuses before the green thing comes for juss like half a second everything is clear buh then becomes super blurry. any suggestions or is jus broken

[Q] Camera Issues

Hi guys. Recently I've noticed a bad camera problem with my IncS. You see when I open the camera app ( on MIUI's ROM ) it lags pretty badly. When I point the camera at one direction, and move to another, it lags. But if I repeatedly click my menu softkey button while moving my camera around, it doesnt lag at all. Does anyone know a fix to this? Thanks in advance!
oh and I restored back to the original ROM I had running which was the official htc's latest rom for the IncS and the camera works fine. no lag issues. Seems like when I flash AOSP roms, the camera lags. help?
I find any AOSP rom has laggy camera in low light
When I take it to better lighting conditions the lag goes away
You're not alone mate
I think it has something to do with trying to take in as much light as possible when there is not enough
@markj338 yeah I actually thought that that might be a possible reason to its horrible lag, so I took it outside this afternoon at around 12pm. It was bright but still the lag was there. And just to be clear, its no ordinary lag. It's like if i point at one place, it shows that place, but when I move my camera away, it waits for around 10 seconds before it shows that place. If you get what I'm trying to say here.. Sorry for the horrible english. But yeah.. that's the problem :/ thanks anyway appreciate it.
Oh mine only lags a bit
When I move, the image will be slow and distorted and will take its time to focus
But not 10 secs, mine is like less than 1, its just choppy and distorted
I'm on CM 7.2
Mine could probably be classified as 'ordinary lag'
Like if you were using a crappy low range phone
What rom are you using, and does this happen in all lighting conditions?
@markj338 well right now im back on my sense rom. the official one. I restored. But I tried miui's rom, cm7.2 and the camera's the same. When I click the menu button repeatedly, then it's ok. but if i dont click anything, it lags a lot....... so yea
Strange.
But I do find the sense camera to be the best

Multiple Camera Problems

Hey guys,
I've never really used Zoe, but I'm on holiday so I thought I'd try it. What I've noticed is that it starts well, but it seems to take ages to "process" (45 seconds). It basically just sits there with a red camera icon, and the phone becomes slightly unresponsive until it processes. Is this normal? how do I fix it?
Also, I've noticed HDR comes up with some strange results sometimes. Example:
Regular image mode- https://www.dropbox.com/s/3r9kwi949e4tpzf/2013-09-24 18.21.18.jpg
HDR: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7h0lt71f8xhv7fi/2013-09-24 18.21.13.jpg
Why does it come up with those things that look like smoke clouds?
Is my camera faulty? I find the Zoe problem bizarre.

Camera can't focus properly, screen tearing/shaking/jerking.

Yesterday I bought a used (yet excellent condition) M7_UL. I was hyped for a bit, unlocked the bootloader, flashed recovery, rooted, and installed some roms. Eventually I settled on GPE+ 3.0.2 but my joy was short lived.
I soon noticed very weird behavior of the focus. (I've owned 3 other M7s and neither behaved like this).
The camera finds it really hard to focus on anything further than... let's say a foot. When I does, it's enough to ever-so-slightly move the device by 1mm and it will lose focus, even with AF and AE locked before capture. At times, it will lose focus even on a tripod - I tap to focus, make sure it really is in focus and wait. A few moments later focus is lost. Tried this outdoors, where light variations are expected, and also indoors. Same thing.
It does have an easier time focusing on objects closer than a foot or so, but the behavior is similar. Just wait or move the device in the slightest and focus is lost.
More than this, while it tries to focus, there are some strange going-ons with the camera and it's viewfinder - screen tearing, shaking, jittering... I'm really not sure how to explain it so I've uploaded a video.

I've done a couple of hours of research and I think I eliminated most obvious culprits. I've thoroughly cleaned the lens cover, gave the phone a tap on the back, threw it on my bed, snapped it against my thigh, thinking maybe it's jammed , cleaned data of the app, tried stock, and several 3rd party apps.
Nothing did anything.
Can anyone offer some insight, please?

dont know about GPE but CM has some issues with camera
try going back to HTC STOCK ROM and see if the problem persists

I'm at my wit's end. HMD global camera app crashes every app that uses it.

So basically after the android 10 "upgrade" my camera became unusable, I went to open camera and it was ok, now though every time I use any app that requires the hmd global camera app it usually crashes the app I'm trying to use or the entire phone, I have installed gcam and it's great, not had a single issues, it is even the default camera app, but still other apps use the old hmd cam app and thus crashes, I am at my wit's end, I can barely use the phone outside general browsing etc.
Any tips, tricks etc would be much appreciated.
I have more or less the same problem. Sometimes everything is ok, but more frequent than not, the camera app freezes for 4 to 5 seconds then resumes for half a second, then freezes again, etc... Other apps have the same problem. When connecting a power cable, everything works fine, until you remove the cable again.
Also, I hear a faint humming sound coming from the phone when I use the camera.
