TeamVanir presents
VANIR
Yeah, it's got a HEMI.
Vanir was founded on the premise of performance tuning Android. We are based on AOSP, but include features (many of which have been rewritten to be more efficient) from other ROMs.
Our webkit, chromium, and skia are aosp/master merged with codeaurora, with linaro fixes on top.
BY LINARO, I MEAN GLOBAL "-O3 -fstrict-aliasing".... we didn't just switch toolchains. Here at Team Vanir, WE GO HARD.
Features
stock mode - ability revert to stock AOSP code with the exception of a few custom features we chose to keep active
omniswitch
enhanced performance.. longer uptime with less slowdown
custom written CRON and init.d.
UI and graphics improvements
custom navbar, navring, and hardware key features
improved notification handling (active display & halo are in review also)
usability improvements like power reboot menu and sound
animation control
Improved Vanir keyboard
CM's profiles & quicksettings
additional quicksetting tiles
immersive mode
statusbar mods
clock & battery mods
lockscreen blur and other mods
soon to come -> quick cam and flash notifications
busybox, embedded root, init.d, cron etc
yatta yatta yatta

Good job in finding this rom but if this is not something on development or you are working on then this is a rom sharing which should be posted at the general forum instead i believe like all others are doing.

Ah Heeeelllll YEEAAHH!!!... Nice...Downloading this right now..
Update: So far all running smoothly. I highly recommend DHO's Gapps. They are VERY minimalist, no Gmail, no YouTube, no maps, pretty much only the play store. Anything you find missing you can download from the play store anyways and the apps wont be tied to the OS. Runs sweet so far, gonna use it as a daily driver for a few days and report back.

Vanir has been building for our family this entire year -- the nightlies are hosted on official Vanir servers -- and no one's known about it except xt907 guys. That's a major shame for all rom lovers and crackflashers. So I took it upon myself to be a good-faith "thread maintainer" and spread the word :good:
Let's be honest, bro, no one looks in General for roms. It's a graveyard there. These are official nightlies, and they deserve the respect of being in Development. If Team Vanir ever makes an official thread, I'll take this down.

Something I noticed on this rom,Carbon and Pac Roms is under the Preferred Network types,It never wants to stick with anything but GSM/WCDMA. Either in Auto or not,it changes back to that after you exit the screen. Even after I checked the "4636" dialer code,it never kicks to LTE even when I know im in a ATT LTE area.(was in San Antonio earlier today)..Is it just a Rom issue?

From what I know, its a CM (or aosp, can't remember) related bug and roms that use it as their base have this issue.

That's odd. I get LTE out of the box and the Settings Preferred Network is set to Global. I changed to GSM preferred without issue to boost battery life (H+ icon). ATT uses a weird APN for LTE, so it could be that. (I'm on Tmo.) Good luck!

OK,well been running Batakangs Stock based rom. Is there a fix for LTE on ASOP or CM? Ive only found a couple of roms based on Stock, kinda frustrating to loose LTE. Other than, this ROM is rock solid.Battery is drain is minimal. Deff a daily driver if someone could work out the LTE thing. Wifi tethering works too.

This would probably be my daily driver if only the battery life was better. I just like the feel of it. For now I've dropped back to validus.

I'm going to try this one. Thanks!

screenies??

It looks like Carbon ROM, clean KitKat style. It works really good, the only thing that I am noticing is the battery is lasting a little less than with Carbon, but it is still ok.

Apparently one of the developers of this rom has a personal version as well called Commotio. If anyone is interested here's the link to the builds http://www.emccann.net/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/. It seems to be more up to date as of this writing. I am currently using it and like it. Some of the things I've noticed so far are different navbar icons, more blue in the theme, added performance control app, themed torch app, and commotio boot animation.

No, you need to check the name of the folder, it's based on the date of the nightly. Then, when you enter, search for the one that ends with "moto_msm8960". That's the one for this phone. Example: "B65-Commotio-moto_msm8960".

OP updated to include Commotio builds. Thanks for the heads-up @governmentissuejoe.
Commotio is customized by Vanir member DHO and includes different themes/icons, settings organization, etc. It's the same core as Vanir - it just looks different.
If you want to increase battery life, I recommend installing arrrghhh's kernel and tweaking the settings. Wheatley is worth a try also.

[ROM] [4.1.1] OFFICIAL codefireX Jellybean Nightlies

These are official codefireX JellyBean Nightlies brought to you by Synergy(e) and TeamCodefire. These use official CM device repos and are built from source nightly. THIS MEANS IT HAS ANY BUGS THE CM10 NIGHTLIES HAVE.
codefireX is a CM10 spinoff with the goal of providing additional power-user features (contained in the codefireX settings panel) while still maintaining full upstream CM compatibility for automated CM merges daily for the nightlies. This means the nightlies are fully up to date with the CM10 nightlies, however you get additional features as well! The codefireX settings panel will become more populated with features as this project progresses, and more device nightlies will also be added.
The codefireX github is HERE. Changelogs are not available, however you may use github (always current). The maintainer for this will not respond to questions on this thread, so please help your fellow android user out or visit twitter/IRC

Same here.
Well I suppose the most interesting thing is the codefireX settings panel, which I guess will be pretty similar as what we can find on other devices. (Changing DPI, tablet mode, battery style...). It seems like an alternative to AOKP. I would be glad to try it too, but indeed the download link is broken

Here is the correct link:
http://synergy.codefi.re/codefireX-i9300
Rom installed, I quickly tested the codefireX settings panel. (The main change I suppose from original CM10). Of course it is too early to provide a full review. Being a fan of AOSP roms, I will spend some time on this new rom. It is interesting for people looking for a bit of extra-customisation without getting too complex.
Before people start posting 'Hey youtube does not work in landscape mode', this rom is using the new HW Composer, you need to use an app like 'Screen Filter' to watch fullscreen videos until this is fixed by CM10 team (When the kernel source will be released I guess).
Thanks for posting. Any difference from here?
People this rom is fing good.
We are looking at a team with a very high level of coding knowledge and are very well organised (10 different devices on the go at once).
I first had contact with synergye and the team on the HTC velocity. Man what a difference they made. Took the stock thing and turned it on its head. In particular the kang bang kernel, always built with the latest and best parts and coded to perfection. He made loads of different changes most notably sound improvements and battery life increase and his own scheduler with a really good deep sleep. I think at one stage synergye put in fifty hours straight into that device. Only to find out that device was dead in terms of development, I am so happy I got an sgs3 now that this has landed I am busting.
Anyway I digress.
This rom so far is very good, stable as a rock and well implemented.
The codedirex system options are very usefully no unnecessary nonsense. The prop moder has some good options for system tweaks. One of my favorite options is the kill all button you can add to the recent apps screen. The rom uses a minimal amount of ram. The sound levels are spot on and sound great.
Seriously I could ramble on for ages.
The last thing I am gonna say, and I am in no way affiliated with the group, swing these block's a donation if you can. The quality of work is second to none and always coded to the highest standard. I have donated in the past and I will do so again.
Also I am not saying that other developers are below par in anyway, ie teamasek is one of the most up to date devs I have seen. A release almost everyday. Wow.
I am just giving an account of my experience.
Id have to agree with everything you say - easily the most impressive ROM i've tested since leaving stock. Any outstanding bugs in the CM10 tree were barely evident whilst running this ROM. I'm waiting for SuperNexus build 3 then i'll be back onto codefireX nightlies.
I'll be donating! : )
Any new build soon or is this rom already dead?

Our next goal is to put together a build machine, and we need your help. Why do we need a server? Well, a few reasons. The first is the most obvious - we'd like to build more frequently and need the hardware to support it. That means drive space and speed. The more of each we have, the more we can say "hey let's crank out a build," and throw it up on goo so you see an update in goomanager. Right now, building is a pretty intensive all-day process. The second reason is stability. Building from a development machine means that the environment itself is less stable. This translates into, again, fewer builds and more work to make them. Faster building means we can build for more devices, too. All this free time means we can do more cool stuff. We've got a lot of great ideas coming, and every bit of time we can get to work on them means a better rom for you. If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

Thanks gentlemen! I really like this ROM on my p3113. The way it looks and all the customization are great! I actually got it set up in tabletui just the way I like, and the quick settings panel works very well in this mode too. Expanded desktop and PIE seem to work very well too. I've spent the last few hours seeing if I could get it all set just the way I would want it, and I think I can.:good: There is a little glitch on rotating the screen, where the screen blinks black for a second. But, everything else I tried seemed good. I am back to cm for now, but I do really like this and will likely be back. Thanks again, and keep up the great work.
Edit: i should add that my mic wouldn't work for voice search either, even after updating.
Gonna try it.

I have noticed a bug where when you press the multitasking button it shows a random app being minimized. Even in the launcher. Wait left and right buttons when the keyboard is showing? OMG THIS IS THE BEST ROM EVER.

Wow, great looking rom with lots of cool useful features. However, sound not working and from what I've tried so far, neither is Netflix, HBO Go, Youtube and of course music apps.
Maybe all related to the no sound issue, once these bugs are fixed, this has the makings of an excellent rom. Thanks for your work so far.
EDIT: I didn't mean that just the sound doesn't work on Netflix, Youtube and HBO GO, I could not get working video on any of them.
Mike T
Which one to choose launcher? Both look the same so I do not know you better
Nova launcher has more customizations and stuff. Like ICS transitions and transparent app drawer. The launcher is the stock launcher from Google. I prefer Nova.
Sent from my GT-P3113 with xda app.
It was not until I noticed that the sound does not work and applications such as youtube and others that sound requires. Unfortunately, as there mate Luigi2012SM64DS I also go back to Cm10.1 waiting for the amendments to the Carbon rom. As for the launcher for now think about it
Any fix being released?

Have had neither of these issues. Only issue as yet is boot screen animation is wonky.
So it's great so far.
Hi sevenup30, I know you did the build for the 51xx, are you also taking over this project for the 31xx from Monfro? I am hoping that the sound now works???
Thanks,

Hi, i talked to tuxafgmur and i decide to build for p311x since they are extremely the same.
Monfro try to port the build, and a port is not the same result as a build, so i hope you ll enjoy the rom. On p5110 it s working very well .
Sound should be working i can t try myself . but previous user dont report bug about sound.

Well, thank you for this, I tried Monfro's build and really liked it, very smooth and clean looking rom but sound wasn't working. I look forward to using this rom and thanks again for bringing it to the 311x.

Wow. An update. Right after i post that i am waiting for one. lol.

THANK YOU for your awesome work
When changing transparency to 0 and back to 100% the entire devices locks up at 50%. Also how can you get rid of the trasparent nav bar?

I believe the Performance Control is buggy. Last night I had all sorts of trouble with my tab (P3113) either constantly freezing or rebooting. I did a complete wipe before installing, I even downloaded the rom again and re-installed but still the same issues.
Then I went into settings and saw that in Performance Control, my tab was at 1480 default max and probably my CPU couldn't take that setting. So, I changed it to 1200, set it to on boot and the freezing/rebooting stopped. However, a bit later I got another freeze and when I checked Performance Control, it was back to 1480.
I unchecked set on boot in Performance Control, downloaded No Frills CPU (free from Play Store) and set my tab to 300/1200 and all the freezing/rebooting has stopped. I always liked No Frills CPU, really excellent app.

I agree, i have had to do that on other ROMs.
For some reason i cant even get this ROM to boot. Ill have to try and DL it again later. Perhaps, it was just a bad DL, because i see others are able to get it to boot and i have no probs with other ROMs, so that would be my guess.

Same issue, and couldn't remap. I also had to flash kk's landscape kernel to get it to boot. I went back to a back up. Ill retry later, when i have more time. I'm not by my PC, so i can't get a log cat, as i only know how to do it via adb.

My tab with 1480mhz don't have any freeze, the only thing is the heating when I'm playing real racing... It's very stable.
I'm going test that app from market. Thanks for the help

I also had a heckuva' time getting it to initially boot. it would hang and than after a hard reset, would make it into the OS and either freeze or reboot. If you can successfully get it to boot into the OS, immediately change the CPU in Performance control to max 1200 and then get an app like No Frills and lock it in. That seemed to stabilize it for me. I also skipped setting up wifi on the initial startup, as that also seemed to hang my tab, setting up wifi after successfully getting into the OS was fine. But, I still think it all had to do with my GPU defaulting at 1480.
I had no issues with the home button on P3113.

Good idea to get No Frills or something similar for your CPU, as it doesn't look like built-in Performance Control is keeping the settings. Hopefully, sevenup30 will check it out. But, good rom anyway.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Yes! Will flash and report right away!
Update: Took my time to test it, restore my apps, test them and mess a little with the options.
Update 2: After spending even more time with the newest release, this is practically a 0 issues ROM. I'll update my review along with new releases.
My micro SD 32gb works perfectly, if you have a 64gb card I would recommend to be formatted as "exFAT".
Smooth ROM and good RAM usage.
Packed with awesome features and I know there's more to come, CarbonRoms has A LOT of features. From changing status bar colors(and it's icons) to edit the menu and back buttons lights duration and remap the buttons(love it), see screenshots in the OP to have an idea.
No issues at all restoring my apps with Titanium Backup.
Stylus is working perfectly and this ROM has the Buttons settings for our device.
Camera is now working perfectly and more features are being added!
*Remember to do a full wipe clean install.*
Two things I want to mention, they're not annoying and they do not break the ROM at all.
*Interface option under Carbon Fibers crash, however given the fact that you guys are still merging those nice features I think it's kinda obvious. That's why I don't consider this annoying, nor ROM breaking, is just a work in progress. I thought I could mention this so no one get scare about it.
*This one is not even an issue is just a question, I use this device in landscape mode all the time, and every time I turn off the screen it rapidly rotates the screen before shutting down. There's no option for the effect to select or to turn it off, my question is: Is that one of the features to be added later within carbon fibers interface? I apologize, I used Carbon a lot with my N7 flo but I can't remember where that option was located.
*Both fixed on newest release*

I found out about that crash during my 2 minutes with this rom..I'm assuming its because of them not finished merging stuff yet. I also see multiwindow and halo both on their gerrit so I'm guessing they'll merge those when its stable
I'm not sure since I've never used Carbon before, but I think what you are talking about is describing the bug thats in all of our roms. Its just the animation right? if you turn the screen back on, it stays in landscape mode? Can't test it because I'm not using this rom right now
And also, not sure if you noticed yet, but the back camera doesn't take photos..I'm almost 100% sure CM broke something in the common device tree because the back camera works in omni, so right now I'm figuring that out and transferring all the files to our own common device tree instead of using the one shared by all the smdk devices.
Edit: Confirmed interface crash is due to a recent commit. Should be fixed soon.

Yeah is the animation, I was just curious about it, it doesn't bother. The camera thing actually it doesn't bother me either because I can take pictures with any camera app from the app store.
It may be a work in progress, but for a initial release of this beta is pretty darn good. I'm still using it and I think I'm gonna keep it, I've been a huge fan of Carbon for awhile.

Nice! I'm noticing a lot of movement in the gerrit, those are good news. Carbon was my one of my favorite with the Nexus 7 flo, and I'm still surprised by how well and smooth it is on the Note 8, to be honest I wasn't expecting this ROM here, hence why I'm so excited.

AOSP vs CM11 - Speed and Stability

Hey all! I'm building a ROM and was wondering what your thoughts were on speed and stability on CM vs AOSP. From my experience, CM is faster but not as stable, and AOSP isn't as fast but is stable.
Please vote and/or comment on your thoughts!
CM tends to have worse battery, in my experience

Here are my beliefs (anyone feel free to correct me):
AOSP is rock solid (usually). It's not the fastest, but that can be fixed. It lacks features.
CM on the other hand isn't the most solid base, but they're very good about fixing bugs. They've got (arguably) one of the largest developer teams working on an aftermarket firmware. They do have more features as well.
What you need to answer is this: How clean of a base do you want to start off with? Do you want to go for AOSP and market it as simple and close to stock with hand-picked features and optimizations? Or do you want to start off with a CM base, having features that are now nearly ubiquitously considered "necessary"?

I've never experienced this, but I can see it happening because of the smaller range of kernels (since it's CAF).

Valid points, I see CyanogenMod being geared as much more developer friendly and extensible, they even have better documentation for AOSP's tools than AOSP does
I want the ROM to be stable and fast, but also ready for customization, where I see AOSP not being very extensible.
So speed and stability is democracy now?
Actually if you are building a ROM from source, you are better off starting with aosp and merging the caf patches then go from there. You can look at patch commits/gerrit to see how to add in the features that you want since the code is normally available to see and will give you what line and all. In the process, you have something to call your own and learn the coding structure and source which is invaluable

The fact is that CM is starting to be real SLOW.
Go for AOSP based roms! Build with linaro? That's even faster.

cm was fast until about mid 2012. then they just started piling on as much as possible into the rom and it has been slower since. when steve(cyanogen) used to spend much time working on cm kernel, thats when cm was known for speed, back in the beginning and a little after cm started. back then, they werent about feature, more about minimalism. now its all about feature.
AOSP>CM
Always.
At any aspect.
CM has become so low and weak ROM since 2013. In the past it was the fastest and the most non-bull**** custom firmware but now as it's available for so many devices it's become sluggish, slow and the quality doesn't even exist. Another thing against CM is that they decided to use CAF code on Nexus devices. I can't understand it as well as other devs working in Nexus sections. I remember CM7 on my legendary HTC G2. It was so fast and damn feature-filled as for those times. Now it's gone. Formerly, my first thought on custom ROMs was CM, now it's quite different... I am so disappointed with CM nowadays.
Just my opinion tho ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The hell are people knocking caf code for??? It is aosp code with fixes for specific hardware by the people who actually make the hardware, wtf would you not use it for????
As far as cm fast, bwhahahahahaha, it hasn't been fast since about cm4 back on the g1/mytouch when dwang came into the picture. Cm's goal evolved to bleeding edge features and getting on as many devices as possible while dwang was straight aosp Roms with speed and stability as the goal

If you own a nexus CyanogenMod is just as stable if not more so. Latest nightly is flawless.
I actually installed 30/6/2014 Nightly and seems faster to me in some areas, such as animation smoothness.
I was on PA 4.4 Final previously and hadn't touched CM11 for 3+ months.
Both were tested with latest Adreno drivers(June), same kernel, same kernel settings and the same Gapps; only the ROM changed.

Isn't Velocity the ROM that has ART by default? And lots of commits to ART. Still, ART is experimental in KitKat, so in the L release there will be lots of changes. I'd rather use something which doesn't have commits to something experimental(such as ART).
Also, I must note that Velocity has changed the animation to 0,75. This results as being "faster" (because of transition) but it's not. Try testing both @ 1.0 animation speed and see for yourself.

A real test would be turning animations completely off and seeing what's faster. That's where real speed and optimisation can be noticed. 1.0 is just too damn slow.

stock jellybean??? kitkat??
I'm stock unrooted on my n5 so far, running art and no animations. Feels blazingly fast to me. I miss custom Roms for the themes and a couple features they usually include but other than that stock has been almost 100% stable even with art.
I reboot it once every week or two and saw one soft reboot the other day in the couple months I've had it, not sure what caused it.
Still trying to decide if its worth rooting and what ROM to run. I like art which rules out stock with xposed.
I've been a chronic ROM flasher on every phone I've had until this one. It just works so good I'm afraid to mess with it. Especially when I've got warranty.
