The purpose of this thread is to determine which Miui V6 base I should use when porting to our beloved grouper moving forward. I will try my hardest to update the ROM weekly just as Miui does when releasing their updates but I do have a life so it may be every other week.
It seems that there are "some issues" with either base that I choose and some I am having a hard time squashing and some others are related to the base I choose while even others are issues such as Chinese translation which I cant fix.
With the Miui V6 ROM in mind, which base should I use?
Official Miui base available from en.miui.com
This ROM comes odexed from Miui, is not rooted when it comes from them and has some small and very manageable bugs that the multilang ROM does not have.
Multilang base from Miuiandroid.com
This base is not the official one from Miui. It offers a few extra languages over the official version, it is deodexed, rooted, zipaligned, and also has some very small but manageable bugs that are not found in the official Miui base ROM.
Y U No Give Me Miui?!
Shut up Tim and port both versions so that people can choose based on their preferences . This method requires a bit more work on my end but all-in-all I think that this is what people want. Choosing this option may mean that I will not release weekly updates due to obvious time constraints. That is really not a big deal unless Miui releases some major bug fixes or enhancements to the ROM weekly. Be assured though that if there are major bugs or updates I will for sure be porting it :good:
Who cares! Do what you want and keep giving us that sweet-ass Miui
This one speaks for itself. I do what I want!
Can you add Ukrainian language to your port of the next build? I know that B.A.R.T. can translate MIUI v5 to Ukrainian, how about v6?
Just want miui haha.. doesnt matter in which form.. just add dutch lang and i am satisfied
I actually cannot add languages, they come from Miui. They have developers that do the translations for the ROMs. There will be support for more languages in the future as I'm told but WYSIWYG for right now unfortunately. Sorry, I really wish that I could add more langs.
I think that the multi language builds will have largest user base. You are the one doing the work though so do what you want.

Ohh thnx for the info, just glad somebody with the capability didnt forget about us nexus 2012. Waiting patiently for a nfc supported build
This is a no brainer of course i vote for the deodexed rooted and zipaligned base (just wondering, do you also have the lockscreen wallpaper bug)

Yes, it came courtesy of the multilang base. I tried fixing it but have been unsucsessful so far. I will be try again tonight though. I'll get it unless its an issue with the framework or systemui.apk
FWIW, I'm just happy to see a MIUI port! It's my first time really using it properly and I'm really enjoying it - despite some of the bugs. I would vote for whichever version is less buggy (or less annoying bugs), but appreciate the benefit of the multilang version for others.
I'm guessing that it's not possible (or worthwhile) to merge the two and have the best of both? add the languages to the official version?

Unfortunately I do not think this is possible but I will certainly look into it!
Thanks for your great work, you really cool man) if you can use multi language base - use it please
Отправлено с моего Nexus 7 (grouper) через Tapatalk
Are there any performance considerations? Can either one do ART? Also, how far does the multilang base lag behind the official? Would we be an extra 1-2 weeks behind with multilang?
You could always start out releasing both and then drop the one with more problems. Maybe at that point someone else would want to maintain the one you drop.
Sorry I have no answers, just more questions. I appreciate your work, though!
Edit: nvm, I just noticed the dates and caught up on the other thread. Guess this is moot now.

i dont see the point of this rom...
I'm sorry but this rom is completely pointless, right now it is identical to the cm nightly and only creates fragmentation, and even when this rom changes it will probably just be some apk's added or removed, and that in my opinion is pointless, because it only creates confusion.
In addition since this is based on a nightly build unless the "developer" (and i put that in quotes for a reason) of this rom updates it every single day its going to be out of date compared to the actual nightly cm build.
and yes I realize that I probably come off as rude in this post, but It always annoys me when people takes a rom, makes a couple of small changes and then post it as their own rom, when in reality they just took a rom that someone worked hard on and just made a small change to it.
I fully agree with you.

make sense.
I'm sorry but the above comments are completely out of context and pointless...
You're missing the point of free custom roms here, navlem has posted an early release rom which 'in time' will be an alternate to stock CM Gingerbread with tweaks and additions for the LG Optimus 2X phone specifically... he is a good modder and i have no doubt he will bring us a good rom.
This is as he stated in the first post, an 'Alpha' which means he is working on it to improve and change it.
NEVER put down a modder for any works he submits to us for FREE, if u don't like the works, do not use it and move on, simple.

I'm not missing the point, I fully realize what the point of custom roms are, however this is not a custom rom, this is the first cm nighly rom rebranded, that is all that this rom is currently, and that is pointless, and I do realize that navlem will probably change a couple of small things later that will make this rom a little bit different from the official cm. but if everyone decided to uploade "custom" roms that only differed slightly from the rom they are based on then that creates fragmentation and confusion. How would you feel if you had worked weeks to make a truly custom rom, and then as soon as you had shared it with the world, somebody decided to add one application to it and then re-uploaded it as their own rom? you would probably be annoyed right?
And that is what navlem just did(well as far as I know he didn't even add an app)
Don't get me wrong I am in no way discouraging people from trying to make positive changes to a rom, but those changes has to be more than simply changing a couple of apps.
well, regardless of all of that, the fact that this rom, right now, is pointless, is something not even you can deny, if navlem really wanted to release a so called "custom" rom then he should at the very least changed it in some way.
And trust me I don't have anything against navlem, but when someone simply takes a rom and rebrands it without changing anything then I get annoyed so please forgive me for acting like a jerk on this particular discussion. I'm usually a pretty nice person.

I understand what you mean.
There are subtle changes made in this ROM but the aim of this first alpha build is to let people test out and give me feedbacks and ideas how to go about improving this rom. This v0.1 is just a first step to open up to the people out here who have ORD and interact with them to see what they really like in a ROM.
That's how it happened for BlazingDragon ROM in my other thread. I received PMs stating that they wants to try my latest version to test and they keep giving me feedbacks and ideas for future updates. That's how I liked it to be.
True enough, v0.1 of the BlazingDragon2x ROM did not make alot of changes to shift away from the shadows of CM. But slowly it will.
I hope not to cause any controversy or start any wars of any kind. If more people are against me creating another ROM on CM7 nightly. I'll just back down, close this thread, and concentrate on my previous ROM.
Thanks for being honest

gosh darn it, how am I supposed to criticize you when you act so nice to me , well I guess I can see what you mean, and I do respect you for wanting to help the community, the main reason for me being annoyed is the fact that you released this rom without changing anything (as far as I know) instead of waiting for a while and then release a rom that was actually different from cm, In addition its never recommended to base your rom off a unstable rom, so In my opinion you should have waited until a stable version of cm7 was available, and again I don't have anything against people like you, the only problem is that there are usually a lot of people like you in most of these forums, and if everyone of you decided to create their own rom then that would create a mess of almost identical roms, which would hurt the community, and thats what Is why I was a little annoyed at you creating this rom. I simply want to prevent this forum from being overrun by roms, and I hope that you can respect my side of this argument, but In hindsight I kinda overreacted and came off as kind of a jerk, so sorry for acting so mean to you, nothing personal
navlem, I do appreciate your good work and your willingness to share; however I also share the sentiments expressed by mikael120.
I would also suggest that if a Rom is heavily based on someone's work, then the thread title/header should carry a notation bearing the original Rom's codename. For example, both FearKill and TK roms make reference to Modaco and/or Fr12 in their thread titles/headers. This gives due credit to the original developer, and also makes it easier for guys like us to quickly identify the source of the Rom.

I'm seriously considering flashing a MIUI build again. A few months back, I tried MIUI and was very pleased with it but I flashed another ROM and then forgot about MIUI and its "flashy" look. I'd prefer a MIUI build with the ICS framework or at least some ICS-ish MUII ROM.
I've narrated my choice in which MIUI build to use down to these three:
Miui.us
Galnet
Miuiandroid
I am not sure what build to use, but I've read a bit about each and they have their pro's and con's but now I'm asking you. What do you think? Which one of these has the best feature vs looks mix all in all?
If you feel like it, please state your own pro's and con's with the following three.
well? Also, what do you prefer of MIUI ICS or MIUI GB?

Really? No one here who feels like giving their input?
Wait for ICS until it has Full hardware acceleration , now you must/should use GB for stability

I use miui.nl rom, must be similar to miui.us.
I personally prefer MIUI.us. I have had no problems. It comes with a four-way reboot option and always translated in English. They also have updates every Friday with a changelog translated in English. I would also recommend you try QND Miui as there are a bit more tweaks tuned for our N1. Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084726
As between MIUI.us or QND MIUI, I have to say it is a tie in my opinion. Both work very well. If you want updates EVERY Friday then stick with MIUI.us as QND MIUI is updated about once or twice a month (or with major updates.) MIUI.us is very bare bones MIUI while QND offers a bit more apps and features (all are located on the OP of the link above.)
Regarding MIUI ICS, wait. The current MIUI ROMs floating out there on the DEV section are glitchy at best. I have personally tried both out and there is constantly lag and FC's. Best bet is to wait for full hardware acceleration with OpenGL.
Which MIUI.us version to use that isn't ICS? 2.2.3 or 2.1.20?

I've just flashed 2.2.3 yesterday, and had a good play today. It's my first MIUI ROM, so i can't compare to others, but i will say how amazed and pleased i am by it. Barring any show-stopping bugs, i can't imagine ever returning to Cyanogenmod, or Stock Android.
I love the U.I improvements, the fluidity, the weekly update schedule and all the attention to detail.
Best ROM ever!

Thanks for your input! I tried MIUI for almost 8 hours after which I remembered why I left MIUI for the first time, it's not a ROM for me, simply put.
I like ICS/CM9 and won't leave that for another ROM now. Not even a MIUI-ICS mix.

Anyway, have you (or anybody else) tested it yet? How's the battery?
I'm on 4.0.4 currently. I would switch, only if temporary, to see how it is.

it has AOKP based rom control and its a moddified trebuchet, and some some cm parts and some aosp..try checking out the details before you just assume, ive ran drews builds off and on since the beggining of ICS they are always solid..
We wanted a new option to CyanogenMod but not completely dismiss CyanogenMod. So using AOSP we started creating new code and modifying current source code in the addition to using some CyanogenMod code during alpha testing stages. Our source is built from AOSP unless otherwise stated.
The ORCA Project is a supercharged rom with performance features and extra enhancements that works on multiple devices and runs the latest AOSP ICS version from Google.
The ORCA Project also comes with a distribution available for desktop, netbook, laptop or live cd and is able to dual boot on x86 machines.

Look at the files in system/app and system/ framework. This has been through the dsixda kitchen courtesy of cherry picks. Drew has a sure knack of using others work. At least I code my own smalis and through help from brainmaster fully code my tweaks. This is more talented work however than a rom residing here in xda that doesn't conform to aslr and only recently got fonts working.
If people are releasing roms on 4.04 or even stock IML74K that aren't stable or are kanging cherry's we that actually sit in gedit for hours on end are wasting time.
For the readers here please use something like cm9 2.1, codename android gummynex or whatever but kangs as Dev roms has to stop.

I tried this rom (out of pure curiosity) and it nearly lasted a hour on my phone of testing. It's a garbage mashup that is buggy and it behaves like the early emulator based ics roms imo. This is not a recommended rom and that's likely the reason no one bothered to mention it here on xda.
every other rom posted here on xda is better than orca hands down ... thanks for coming out

There is no such thing as 'bug free' buld that is why we always have new versions(builds) untill the dev team decides to move on to something new. Therefore I would imagine there won't be 'Final' ICS untill Android 5 (Jellybean) available and the dev team decides to move on to Jellybean (assuming many of us still sticking to our G-tab 7 and plenty developers still willing to crack one for us.)
However the latest builds of ICS are very stable and suitable for daily use.

No links? Btw, look into my noob how to... I already made a list of availible ROMs Stability is relativ, so ranking ROMs according to it, doesnt make sence, since it is different for almost every user, as you can see in all of the ROM threads. And why would you wanna rank them according to popularity? Everyone has to choose on his own, if he likes a ROM or not. So I think, this is just another obsolete post of you...

Nooby, By popularity
I mean by downloads
By stability, i see the consumer satisfaction (Number of reported problems)
Please get your thinking right. Always think positive.
Peace

I also agree with nooby. This is ..... well just doesn't make any sense ! Users experience is different with almost everyone. What's stable for you could not be for me regardless of reported problems or whatever. And I think the best way to find popularity is simple...start a poll with a list of the roms and ask what rom everyone uses as a daily driver can't go buy downloads or post count or however you plan to figure that out.
There were already lists of ROMs and polls with ROMs.
Most of the ROMs get abandoned soon after release, so there's no point to install such ROM - no bugs will be corrected, no future improvements will be introduced.
I doubt you will be able to maintain this list...
Which is the Zues ROM? I don't know that one, but I know the Zeus ROM though

Could you regularly upload roms which are not contained on xda? For example official Mokee OS, ShenduOS and other Asian roms and those which are contained on other forums.
That would give this thread some much needed depth, but in saying that it is also missing something. This thread has already been done by N00BY and needs something extra so ppl won't ask for it to be closed.
Maybe do some research into each rom and note changes or benefit/problems with each from in comparison to its base.

I don't think there's any harm in having this thread. If he has the time, it's admirable that he wants to contribute to the community.
P.S Not taking sides or anything, but some people do go by popularity in choosing ROMs/customization (eg. no. of downloads of an app).

Again, just looking for some THANKS, why don't stop being an Attention Hoe, this is again an useless topic. There is a Search bar and Developer Sub Forum, thats the reason for everything.

You too are looking for attention. Many people thanks when they think its right. So you are also. Face the mirror and reflect on yourself before mentoring others. I want to help the community, not like you, flaming. If you notice. I have never flamed.

XDA isn't a popularity contest site, it's a development site. What appeals to one may not appeal to the other, comparisons do nothing but cause problems. We have ROM listings, that's all we need.
