Unwanted Network (Moviestar) - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all... In my trying of firmwares, XXLQE, XXLQI, UBLPH, UBLPK, I found on my phone at least, the best battery performance came from the VSLPA firmware. That is branded by Moviestar in Argentina.
My thing is more an irritation than a problem. In my wifi settings when it scans, the Moviestar network is listed and shows out of range. I remove the network manually but it comes back randomly. I want to remove it for ever as I do not think I'll be going to Argentina any time soon (not that don't want to go for sure). I hope someone knows where the network is stored so I can edit it out. Thanks in advance....

Apns are stored in apn.conf file in /system/ etc.
I dont know anything other than that.

Oh i thought you were asking about access point settings of mobile data.
To remove the wifi network you just need to long press the access point and click forget. Doesn't that work??

enable android wifi tethering on rooted at&t Atrix 4G

no need to run any script, or use any 3rd party tethering apps,
juz use Root Explorer, edit
"build.prop" under "system" folder,
find "ro.mot.entitlement_check=true" and change it into
"ro.mot.entitlement_check=false"
restart machine and tht's done, at&t authentication gone, tested and work
if this has been posted before, please remove, thx!
I guess there's really no reason to even add a custom APN with this, right?
Doesn't work for me. Still attempts to check.

if you're using root explorer you need to hit the tab near the top that says "Mount r/w" to edit the file.
It worked very great for me, only put default, tether.
Thanks!!!

turn off wifi..
This works but doesn't show the notification. Could cause people to lose battery life with this...
Bump, works for me on 1.8.3 with Gingerblur
Change the ro.entitlement to false and then add ",tether" next to default on the APN type.
Reboot the phone and enable the hotspot.
You won't get a notification in the taskbar, but just disable it when you're done with it.
hi i have changed. ro.entitlement to flase and reeboted, but it says too much battery and when you press yes it just closes. how is supposed to run when you have it right?

Well, if you changed it to "flase", then I'd imagine it not working.
Anyway, there is no "indication" that the hotspot is working, you need to verify that it is working by trying to connect to it via a computer.

1. I would like to know your process of rooting with gingerblur on 1.83
2. I have added false to that line, what do you mean by add tether to what APN?
3. would you have detailed instructions? like step by step vs. this vague info is just hard to follow.
I have had the best luck by simply changing the apn of att tether to "phone" from "broadband" using a SQL editor.
This allows mms and text messing to dynamically chose the correct apn (no manual downloading mms messages) and they icon works.

Those instructions are completely, patently obviously crystalline. You should go google your google os then reread. Seriously, don't ask to be served on a silver platter. Read, understand and ask for specific clarification on a step that confuses you if google and forum search fail you. Rooting is well documented. Get unlazied for that one. Which apn should you consider adding tether to? Probably the one you are using, common sense would dictate. (Further extension of common sense states that you might need to make a new apn that is a copy of your current one with changes for this.)
Mine worked without adding tether to my apn! I don't know that this particular step is necessary. I've downloaded several hundred MB's through my phone on Steam without adding tether to my apn, but YMMV.

[Q] SMS problem

hi guy's long time lurker first time poster...
i'm having a problem with all sms sending 'failing' when ever i've got packet data turned on. its not something i've ever come across on any of my previous devices... any nudge in the right direction will be very welcomed.
p.s i'm on t-mobile uk if that make any difference.
Thanks in advance
john
check your APN settings and MMS settings.
They are sharing the same apn, but i've been playing with the setting (all know variations) but still every time i use packet data it will always fail to send any sms's.
It's becoming very annoying to have to manually connect every time i want to use some data.

Hey!
Just ask from you mobile provider, what must be your APN settings. In 2.3.4 you must ALWAYS put the APN settings manually. If you added them, save and pick it. ALL DONE!
CHEERS!
thanks i'll give it ago, was just using the setting they sent me over the air and already in sim card, will input manually when i get home, and let you know.
Thanks again for the help.
Edit: no this didn't work either, now im really peeved(lol). can't for the life of me think what else it could be. would flashing the wrong modem file cause this? as its all i can think that is left to try....

Hey!
THX man, but you not need to thank always(thx anyway ). If you dont get you problem fixed, you can try others STOCK firmwares. Sometimes it takes a lot of flashing, but it can help sometimes too.

yeah flashing to 2.2.1 fixed it but i want to use FirstUA-ROM-v1.2 do you think theres a way round it?
p.s i always thank those that try to help me.
Same issue
I have the same problem, bud.
Updated my Ace to Gingerbread and found I couldn't send SMS with Packet Data turned on. Turn it off and SMS sends OK. I'm with Virgin (UK) which I believe is the same network as T-Mobile.
Re-flashed Froyo and all works as it used to. After that, I fired up Kies as I hoped to get an official version that way and sure enough it said there was a firmware update available so I installed that. Turned out to be the official Samsung Gingerbread and yet again i broke SMS when Packet Data was turned on.
I'm back to Froyo once more and have emailed Virgin to ask if they can offer any advice. I notice another report of this issue on another forum where the guy called Virgin and was apparently told the fault seemed to be with VM.
Sorry this doesn't provide an answer but thought it worth corroborating your symptoms.
Cheers!
Use fla.sh rom instead. Its very stable and fast . Multi csc too.

Big thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with the problem(thought i was loosing my mind, lol)
actually the phone was a virgin locked phone but was unlock to all networks by them for me... maybe something i can look into.
p.s flashing fla.sh didn't fix it either..
I am having this same issue using stock 2.3.3.
I bought my ace factory unlocked using it on orange. Sometimes sms will send, but majority of time it will fail until I disable packet data.
I tend to email or use gtalk/kik for messages but the odd time I want sms this gets annoying.
Oddly I never had this problem on the 2.3.4 I tried from samsfirmware.
Got the same problem. Using 3, and they just gave me a new SIM-card. Gotta finde some clever way of disabling data every time I open Messaging
yeah im looking for a way of re enabling the option in the extended power menu but with out much luck, all the modded ones seem to leave it out.

Okay, gonna try to explain it.
1. Go to /system/app and rename Mms.apk to Mms.apk.bak
2. Install the attached Mms.apk (It's from CM6)
3. Download AutomateIt from the Android Market (Just the free one)
4. Open it and add a rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should not be marked.
5. Save it and add a new rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is NOT marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should BE marked. Save this one, and you are done!
This will disable Mobile Data every time you open your Texts, and enable it then you exit your texts. The reason you need the CM6 Messaging-app, is that this tricks doesn't work with the original Samsung-app

Could someone please link me to a mod which allows me to completely remove mobile data services from my phone since switching off data still allows some apps to turn in on. Lost all of my credit (had a lot of it) thanks to this new phone i bought.

May be you can try Hotspot shield or Hola.
I prefer Hola -better internet this gives per app proxy & in yhe list of apps try tethering apps
you may not be able to use wifi tethering if disabled form operators side.
If you use Hola then enable unblocker, enable acceleration, then tap on unblocker see the list of apps select the country you want & Run(play) the app.
but you can try VPNs(Hotspot shield & Hola) for same & report here if it works.
Hit Thanks If i helped.

Please try this
Install the apk
Then go into Settings -> Connections -> More Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Once there, press menu, and choose "Reset to default". (Make sure you have at least one apn checked after resetting defaults)
Then try Tethering. You may or may not need to reboot after resetting APNs.
Let me Know
Get Wifi tether router set interface to wlan0 then create new APN, name whatever you want, apn to fast.t-mobile.com and make sure it's set to ipv4. Set tether provisioning in build prop to false. Reboot. Enable wifi tether and try it out, should be good. I set the build prop tweaks in 3c toolbox so it should stay, tethered around 12 gigs so far with no issue.

Shortcut Master cannot provide access to most of the interesting codes since an Oreo update approximately a year ago...

If what this app does is what you're looking for, then I'm not sure what the problem is, because on my device I have a setting to lock the network to LTE/3G/2G (auto conenct); 3G/2G (auto connect); 3G only; and 2G only. I'm not sure what more you want.

I'm sorry i should've been more clear and precise. I was looking for the hidden activity called Hidden Network Settings that was present in Oreo. By using that i was able to lock my phone to specific Network Bands like B40 or B5 or multiple specific bands.
However in PIE that hidden activity is not present, i did go through all of them one by one.

Hi there , I've been searching for topics like this in the past three hours to share the way I did to make Hidden Network settings work on pie.
Here's what I have done. Well it may not work for you if you're not rooted but I believe that there's another simpler way than mine
First. I have downloaded hidden network settings.apk from apk mirror the last update which is on 31-03-2019
Second I have installed it using Lucky Patcher
Rebuild & Install > Navigate to the path where you downloaded Hidden Network settings > Install it as a system app ( integrate app to system ) > Reboot
Please let me know if it worked out for you

I rooted my phone and installed the Hidden Network Settings app from OREO stock rom in PIE as system app
Just pushed the app in system apps directory with the right permissions
I am now able to lock network bands.
However it only works in rooted cases.
I wasnt able to do anything in stock unrooted rom
Is there a similar hidden menu that I can access to fix my GPS? It only works when I'm stationary, and VERY slow to update when I'm driving. The most annoying issue is that any APP like Google Maps is oriented 90 degrees in a different direction whenever I place it in "compass" mode (even when moving). I've done the figure-8 calibration numerous times whenever prompted, but it doesn't help.
