Hello,
been quite a long time, since my last Android device, but now I´m back again. A few years ago I was really amazed, when it was possible to run Android and iOS simultaneously on a iPhone 2G. This is why I´m asking whether it is possible (or maybe anybody already did) to run iOS on the KFHD. The reason why I have that idea is, because it´d make it much smoother to integrate the KFHD into my existing Apple "eco"-system and just to play around.
And please don´t say "buy an iPad" or whatever... if we´d like to run our devices just as they were assembled and sold, you and I won´t be here on xda ?
Thank you

You do realise that iOS is not open source right? Technically the kernel sources were supposed to be published but apple found a loophole and didn't want to publish them last I heard, but yea the os itself isn't open source.

You wouldn't want it, why ? Because of good ol' linux.
´cause I´m happy with Mac.
And yes...I ran every possible system on my machines...MacBook Pro with Win/OSX and PC with Hackintosh/Win/Linux. Also Windows Mobile, iOS and Android. OSX and iOS is what I´m most productive with.

I don't mind the IOS but only IPod/IPhone 3rd generation or lower, Because they can run Android (not very stable).
One question.
Of all of you who are dissing the OP, his/her idea, and iOS itself, how many of you actually tried it? And by try it, I don't mean glance at your friends iPhone and called it crap. How many of you have used it for at least a week, integrating iOS into your digital life? I've got two Android devices, as well as an iPod touch running iOS 7, and believe it or not, I like it. Sure, I don't like Apple's walled garden ecosystem, but it's no different than Amazon locking down our own Kindles.
I digress, but my point is, don't knock it until you try it. We are a community of developers, and our main goal is to make our devices better in ways the original developers didn't. If one person decides he wants port iOS to our Kindles, who are we to judge him? Even if it isn't possible, what reason it's that to ridicule him/her?
As much as I love it here at XDA,I have to admit that I am a bit ashamed of the single-mindedness that Android is superior to all mobile operating systems (yes we have forums for some others, but still).

My contact at Microsoft has indicated to me that an OEM ARM version of Windows 8 is not in the works. It will be unlikely that you will be able to purchase a copy of Windows 8 at a store and simply install it on any tablet you would like. That will not stop us from attempting to do this from a rip of a device that comes preinstalled with it though.
Also, I was told that the PC manufacturers will be rolling out the first Windows 8 devices in June 2012, and the ARM devices should follow shortly afterwards.
By next summer, with some luck, we may be able to BEGIN working on Windows 8 for the Touchpad.
Thanks for this info, and I believe you are the same one that posts videos on youtube.. they really helped me get my touchpad set up.
I'm guessing we'll have to wait until a "jailbreak" method comes about for these upcoming windows 8 tablets to dump the OS off of them. Second, I'm also guessing drivers will be scarce for the touchpad. Since this clearly falls under piracy (the only solution will involve torrenting a ripped windows 8 arm image since they won't sell it OEM), some developers may hesitate to work on it publicly and share that info, so that will make this process a lot less open than android.
Because of the firesale, though, the touchpad may still be popular enough of a device that it can be done. I hope so, but I'm a little iffy on if its technically piracy.

didnt it say somewhere that ARM beta is supposed to drop around february?
would give the devs something to play meanwhile..
but as we have moboot now, which is constantly developed further too.. I believe we have a real chance to see Win8 on TP one day..
and maybe other companies will start supporting ARM more too? would be nice to see..

There's no guarantee this will happen, and even if it does it probably won't be legal.
If it did it would be great though, this thing is the new HD2
Windows 8 ARM tablets will effectively kill the Android tablet market if OpenMobile's ACL works as-advertised and can be easily acquired and ported to any Windows 8 tablet system, as there would be little point in running native Android anymore.
sacbee.com/2012/01/09/4173389/300000-android-apps-run-on-any.html
On an ARM version of Windows it should be possible to create a program that runs Android apps. It should be pretty fast since the processor wouldn't have to be emulated (ARM on ARM), just like Virtualbox, etc can run sandboxed x86 OSes on x86 systems.
But Windows 8 ARM will not run any old Windows programs and it may not come with Explorer at all only the new tile based menu system. Windows 8 x86/64 will be able to switch between the old Explorer and the new tile based system.
I would love to see Windows 8 ported, but would rather have a stable port of ICS instead.
I've read that MS recently updated their "quasi VM". So they already have the possibility to run Android Apps.. as well as BB on their Playbook.

Here's how I see it.
Jailbreak iPhone to be able to install 3rd party apps.
VS
Toggle a setting on a stock Android phone to install non market apps.
Win Android.
Jailbreak iPhone to add features and themes
VS
Root Android phone and flash a custom ROM to add features, themes, custom Launchers etc.
I still have to give the win to Android.
I really don't see what the point of this thread was if the OP wasn't trying to stir up a ruckus since it's all a matter of opinion anyway. Use whatever works best for you.
OF COURSE the ability to side load apps and change the icons on your "appdrawer" gives you more freedom than:
Custom roms
Custom Kernels
Overclocking/Underclocking your CPU
Ability to edit system files
100% control over your phone, etc etc
Yeah you are....right...

Thinks in Cydia are not really mind blowing. You have a bunch of themes and emulators and stuff. Android still has more customization.
Cydia has a couple of nice apps and tweaks, but it's not close to Android's tweaking capabilities. I used to tweak my iPhone 3GS back in the days and i had a lot of fun, but you'll hit a wall after some time, and there's not that much more to do.
- File Manager - Check
- Themes - Check
- Widgets - Check
- LS replacement - Check
- Notifications tweaks/addons - Check
- Other minor tweaks - Check
But after i was finished installing and tweaking stuff there wasn't that much to do. The thing Android has that iOS doesn't have; is custom ROM's. If i'm sick and tired of TouchWiz, i'll flash CyanogenMod. If i'm bored with CM i'll jump to MIUI etc. There are a lot of options in the Android world, and iOS doesn't offer that kind of options. Still, it's nice that iOS users has Cydia, but i left that ship a "long" time ago - and i really don't miss it. I need mah ROM's damnit!

Yeah, this doesn't make much sense, especially the customization bit. CM and others have theme chooser, MIUI has the Themes App and Toolbox, and even stock Roms have multiple launchers that allow quick changes of icons and other bits. We won't even discuss having amazing widgets for free that cost anywhere from $3-10 on Cydia and don't have the same level of functionality.
Let me know when you're able to toggle any settings you want from your lockscreen and homescreen. Also, hit me up when changing notifications is as simple as long-pressing music and sound files.
Jailbroken devices certainly have more ability than factory counterparts but are still behind even stock Android phones in so many ways, let alone a rooted or Rommed handset.

Some of you have been following this for a very long time, you have seen the changes and many alterations I have gone through. But now, Android on the desktop has reach a very serious status about itself and it is turning into a powerhouse beast of an OS.
Let me start by saying that Android Desktop does have an official name, we just have not released it yet, so for now, we are sticking to Android Desktop OS.
I am going to be short and clean about what is going on. What we are doing with Android is nothing short of damn amazing, we have turned Android into a 64 / 32 bit, Intel and AMD powered, rebuilding from the ground up, new feature rich, all app redesigned, new kernel, synced platformed environment, with a lot of new things which will be added in the future.
Me and the lead developer have been working and mapping every corner of this out for well over a year, every small detail, every brand new thing we must add to Android, adding all new systems and mechanisms to bring out the full power of a desktop.
I must state this as strongly as possible, this is not a patch, not a port or any bad attempt by the likes of which others have done. This is the real deal, real power, real love and thought put into this OS. Totally rebuilt in a way no one has thought of yet. Every default app has been redesigned for the desktop, all UI, all screens, notifications, settings and everything are beautifully redesigned to burn your cornea when you see it.
The kernel is a powerhouse. This will do partitions, read HDDs, SSDs and other drives properly, newly implemented mouse and keyboard systems and just so so so much more that we have planned for this, things I can't even talk about.
I just can't wait to have you see what is coming, this is about to change so much in the tech world. I repeat, this IS the real deal.
I will leave you with some teasers of what is going on, just to pique your interest as well as I can, also keep in mind there are a lot of things not show for particular reasons.
And last but not least, we are always keeping an eye out for serious developers who are interested in building the future.

Yeah thats what I dont understand, android is beaming left and right, has alot of potential and they do a Chrome os
As I said, if I knew how to write code, I would blend a Linux and Android x86 type together, allow some Windows files to be used, well mainly games and what not, but still.
I wish someone here on XDA could pull a group together and start this, I would lead the art idea side.
Am I allowed to bump this?
Willing to start
first off, sorry to bump the thread :/. So as far as i know the apps on a android phone work on a java platform, so technically you could take the android tablet OS and convert it (i know that's not easy) to desktop, and kick win 8 ass. However its java, its process intensive and not the most fun.

Thank you I appreciate it. If we ever get an Android desktop, and I say if because, it seems Acer may be working on it. But I would like to use these ideas as a skin for android.

They are working on that AIO pc thing with the new haswell chips. Which I am hoping isnt the mobile chip, instead the desktop chip. But I think that stands at like 10% and there was a rumor that (not acer) but there would be Android laptops sometime this year, you will just have to google that one, but if so, it could mean that Android will get off of arm chips or whatever it is on.
Edit: Nvm here is the google link for android laptops.

If anyone would like to start up this project email me. [email protected] I would really like to see this beautiful idea come to life. I think if we look at android 86 and fork there os.

Interesting indeed. I think there's a lot of potential for cyanogen. But I don't think they should consider changing their name. Millions of people already know the name, I think it would be less consumer-friendly to change it.
CM
Personally I'll stay away from CM if they restructure their GPL's and don't keep it completely OSS.
If they stay FOSS i'll be very happy with what they are doing. I Just don't beleive that they'll keep it open.
But I would never buy the Oppo hardware that theyre going on.

agreed, oppo has a neat new device but not giving your users expandable memory and a removable battery is like shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to android. with the limitless possibilities of android and the unsecure nature of most cloud storage that was a really bad move on their part. if i wanted a iphone like device then ide just download ios and run it on my s4 lol

What a minute! You can run IOS on the S4? BS!
I've never seen/heard this. And that would be a big deal.
Also they can't do a removable battery because of the back touch panel, which is interesting to say the least, but probably not practical.

no bs my friend a simple google search will give you several options from a mock OS (not really dualbooting but similar) to plain jane launchers
as far as the removable storage/battery....i would rather have a sd card and a removable battery instead of a touch panel that may or may not cause issues with normal everyday use.

BINGO!
the program i was talking about is called iosonandroid and its about the closest thing you can get to actual ios. its a mock version of the os that requires a pc to install and from what i have seen and heard its pretty darn close to the real thing. i dont know why you would want to do it but hey its there for those that like dumb down their phones.

Well I've Googled for it and i can't find anything about it. Only Spam websites that try to get me to complete a survey, and a joke XDA thread about it pointing to the XDA Noob video.

IOSONANDROID is a FAKE SITE.
There is no way to make IOS run on android Hardware.

i did research the site a little further and found its an offer site so you were correct about that but that does not negate the fact that it is possible to run IOS's earlier versions on our devices. do you honestly think that we would let IOS get away with being able to run android and not turn around and do the same? again.....why would you want to though?

I'm not trying to use IOS on android as my DD, but it'd be cool to mess around with and play a couple games with my sister who has an iphone. I love android, but IOS does do something better.

Please show us some concrete evidence of this. In 4 years of rooting/romming Android devices, I've never seen this done. IOS is a closed-source OS and there's no way that I'm aware of to obtain a legal copy of the software for use on a non-iOS device, older version or not.

I'm pretty sure he's thinking of something else (maybe a theme or launcher) that he saw years ago and remembered incorrectly. IOS is not able to adapt to different screen resolutions like Android is, so even if it were somehow possible to get ahold of a copy of the OS (illegally), it wouldn't run on any of our devices because they all have unsupported resolutions for the OS. I call either shenanigans or inaccurate memory.

That's coincidental, not irony.... But if Alanis Morissette got it wrong, you can't blame others for doing same.
Besides use Tapatalk instead. It actually works better on the iPhone 6+ than Note 4 (you see more content/posts on it).
I have both the 6+ & Note 4 (and a moto x 2014) and contrary to popular belief the two can co-exist very happily - both great phones. My app usage is near identical between them too.
Both have great screens and great battery life. And after 5 months use, neither my Note 4 has a gap gate issue or iPhone 6+ bend gate issue....
I don't understand why some in android or apple communities get so insecure about these things. Just enjoy whatever device you are using.
That being said I'm not sure why your post is entirely relevant here and will inevitably stir up a hornets nest.
I must admit I have thought about it while sitting here waiting for lollipop. Considered the Nexus 6 as well, but at the end of the day this Note can do things that none of the competition can. The pen mostly but the removable battery and sd card are also nice. 6+ would be ok if I got the 128gb version but here in New Zealand a 32gb Nexus 6 costs the same as a note 4 so it's a total no brainer, lollipop or not.

why? Just interested...
I actually had the same thought, because I admire the beauty of the iPhone. But after taking a look I realized that they wanted me to pay extra cash for the exchange which is ridiculous since they get a better phone from me then I get from them.. But I might trade phones, just to try out the 6+ someday..
Im waiting for "IPhone 17 plus +" until then I stick with Note series.

I actually think it's not a bad idea at all. I've been with Andorid since the start and never had an Iphone, but there's tons of apps that have better support on iOS/apps that are not on Android at all. anyway..why not change once in awhile and try new things right? maybe i'll do it with my next phone
I made complete research, and just for change of taste, i went to buy an iphone 6+, got it booked here in Pakistan. but ended up buying a Note 4, and my first 2-3 days were of full depression because of battery drains but now its all fine. the only regret i have is the sound quality i was having with htc one m8 before, otherwise note4 is soooo awesome <3
After just one day with it, I quite content with it. Seems to be pretty solid...so far.

The fact that you can't use NFC (no secure token such as yubikey) for anything other than ApplePay, or that you can't use openvpn or PGP on an iPhone makes it an unsuitable/undesirable device for me. I hate how you can only run software endorsed by Apple on a device you paid for.

Agree but that's how they maintain the pubic perception that their platform is stable, secure and reliable. In reality it's no better that a high end Android these days, it's just that it's much easier for Android users to completely bork their phone by installing badly built apps.
Also iOS is easier to develop for, so long as you're compatible with the latest iOS you don't really need to worry about much else. Android is completely different. People could be running your app on anything from gingerbread to lollipop, have from a 1ghz single core cpu to a quad/octa core monster, 512mb to 3gb ram, 600x800 up to 1440x2560 screen res, etc etc.
In other words I couldn't give a **** for iOS, but the app ecosystem is kind of tempting.

So much of this. I have both the devices too, along with a nexus 6 and i really don't understand the hate on both sides. Plus as others have already said the topic is irrelevant on this forum. There is such a thing as discretion of posting.
That said to the OP, iPhone 6 plus is a fine device. Enjoy the great apps, a great consistent camera and great battery life.

Can you elaborate on this? While your statement holds partial truth, it was also ironic that I tried to download a well-known android app on my iPhone. Never, EVER make me feel like I wasted money on an education again!
