[Q] How do i backup current firmware? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I look after the company mobiles and we have around 30 Sony Xperia SP C5303 Mobiles
They are all on EE 4G in the UK
They run 4.1.2 (12.0.A.2.254)
Recently a few users have updated to 4.3 and now emails no longer work and the phones have become sluggish
So id like to revert back to 4.1.2
I want to keep warranty so i would like to restore from a stock rom
Id like to backup the rom from one of the 4.1.2 phones
I have read to use SUS but when i try the repair/reflash same version as suggested its not an option
The only option is to upgrade the firmware which is not what i want
Please how do i backup the firmware of our 4.1.2 phones so i can flash the ones that upgraded to 4.3?
Many thanks

The best option if you don't want to root every phone and install cwm is to use PCC to get the files if you plug one of the 4.1.2 phones into PCC and "repair" it is that an option or will it only allow an upgrade? I can do it for you I'm on EE 4.1.2 and the upgrade is not available for me yet so I can still download the 4.1.2fw if all your phones are due for an upgrade you then flash the file from PCC (there are tutorials on getting the files) with androxide and bin4rys flashtool.

PC Companions "repair" updated the phone from 4.1 to 4.3
rrrr
Could you upload yours and send me the link?

OK I'll do that later tonight or tomorrow

Also to get the 4.1.2.ftf you don't let the repair process complete you interrupt it and pull the files out of PCC

My phone is now due an update so I can't get the 4.1.2 fw if you look for generic global 12.0.A.2.254 firmware then that will work.

I'm not sure: with the latest firmware being available, wouldn't PCC or SUS repair to 201 or 266?
When I recently flashed a 257 source from this forum, the phone notified me that there is an update to 254 (even though 266 was available then)
Maybe you can test one of the phones: flash a FULL 257 firmware (without wiping data) to see if it updates to 254.
Once it is done updating, the 254 firmware should be residing in one of your computer folders.

[Q] 4.2.2 C6603 OTA availability (NL)?

Does anyone know when/if there will be an OTA update for the new 4.2.2 firmware? I have flashed a generic NL .253 .ftf and I also never received
the other updates OTA. I do want to update, but I want to keep root access. I know I can flash a new generic ftf and gain root access with the perf_event exploit, but just updating OTA is easier I guess. Thanks in advance!

Depends what you mean with easier.
If you're willing to wait another month (just an example) for the OTA then yes it would be easy.
You can flash the T-Mobile NL FTF, gain root, remove root within an hour. I'm quite sure that you will have to wait a lot longer then an hour for OTA to even come out.
A month does seem like an awful long time..

I just did the original Japanese xperia z 4.2.2 update and it is fine it didn't change the language or anything I just flashed it over the old one done. Is even rooted. And It has no issues. So there is already ways on getting the official 4.2.2 update.

Did you root using the perf_event exploit? I caved in.. Downloading a generic NL stock rom right now. Installing and rooting asap, couldn't wait any longer

Just download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2339421
Open flashtool
At wipe untick data and cache leave appslog ticked
This way you keep your root and your Phone will have in 5 minutes the latest version!
Done this yesterday myself

Root on .534 then update to .257?

I'm willing to stay on the current (stock) rom for a while - if I have stock 14.1.G.1.534 that I'm about to root - will I mess smth up if I update to 14.1.G.2.257 or any other version that'll be available through Z1 Update Center (assuming there will be one available for download through the handset software)
Regards
You will lose root if you update to .257
But you can root, install recovery on .534 and then flash a pre rooted 257 rom from the dev section
Thanks Greg. Don't know why xda app does that.

Actually I read a report yesterday that root was kept after an OTA update. I suppose it's just a "diff" being pushed out so it's not surprising, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for that guys - well then I'll try kingo root on first and then update to see what happens. Cheers
Rooted with kingo then OTA to 257 - root preserved

Just flash a older ftf using flashtool.

noob
could you please explain this steps (Just download the latest Android 4.1.2 firmware and flash using Flashtool) because it will be my first time to play around with firmwares and i dont want to f*** up my phone I want to downgrade my xperia z because from the time on i upgraded to jelly bean 4.2.2 the Phone and Contacs icons disapeared and i think its because i backed up my phone on Titanium Backup two firmwares below 4.2.2 and then after upgrading two times it restored automaticly the backup from the Phone and Contact Apps and the new update doesent support these old versions...
also the icon disappearing thing happened on my previous firmware ( before i upgraded to 4.2.2, so in my first updrage after the firmware i backed up ) always when i turned my phone off , but then i just restored it each time from Titanium Backup, with restore App+Data, and i justed wonderd why this is happening...now when i try to restore it from Titanium Backup it stucks in the loading process..

Brother you cannot restore system apps from different version of android.
Nd to downgrade first download a ftf of your country and download flashtool and install it
Second- paste the ftf in fimewires folder of flashtool folder(c:\Flashtool\firmwares)
Third-open flashtool
Fourth-click lightning botton on the top left. And select flashmode.
Fifth-click the firmware on the left
Sixth-uncheck appslog, cache nd data on the right if downgrading(to prevent bootloop nd this wipes your internal storage)
Seventh-click flash nd wait for sometime till a box pops up saying connect in flashmode.so to connect in flashnode hold volume down and connect in pc nd then let the process finish.
After 5 min it will flash and you will see flashing finished.now you have successfully downgrades yoir fimeware...enjoy

im pretty much a noob so i have some questions..ftf is a firmware like jely bean 4.1.2? what firmware is 2 times below 4.2.2? where can i find an original sony xperia Z firmware like this (i live in germany if this is importand )? and if i downgrade to the firmware i made the backup what should i then do to proceed with an upgrade whithout having problems again? i mean should i erase first titanium backup and then downlaod it after i updated and then make a new backup or something like this? And was my prediction right of what the reason was that the calling app kept disapearing by rebooting my phone?

First of all bro ftf are firmware packages.and you can get any ftf in general section of xperia z forum but you need to search a bit.
Nd if you are using titanium backup, since 4.3 cannot be rooted for now, you meight need to flash a prerooted rom and then restore your apps/data from.TB..nd for contacts, measage you can use gcloud which can be found in playstore.

Oook..So first i have to install the rom and then flash the ftf? My phone is also rooted now...with changing the rom will it be automaticly unrooted? Also the rom you gave is just for UK i think, or is this irrelevant and just the ftf needs to be from my country? :/ And do i need to create a recovery.img file?
Sorry for these questions..as i said im pretty much a noob on this things
Also gcloud cant find any contact becaus e they are non...they just exist as an titanium backup backupfile which i cant restore because its an system app..:/

Bro it does not matter which country rom you are using,,nd for installation just flash the rom in custom recovery before that wipe everything data, cache nd dalvic cache nd after instillation power off your devuce ns flash the kernel from the ftf but before flashing once read the installation procedure of the rom.

Nd for getting all your contacta you need to flash that firmware. In which you took backup nd root it nd install tb nd restore all contacts nd finally backup in gcloud..

Anyway, one of the two .. Decide for yourself! And the next time, please not open a new thread for this question

I would flash an ftf from the forums or make your own, as the bootloader gets updated. A failure during the OTA or PC companion flash at the moment bootloader is being updated could result in a hardbrick

Or so :good:
I could be wrong but it has mentioned that Flashtool uses the same protocols as PCC and flash tool is a way for those with unlocked bootloaders and modified system to flash stock roms where trying to use PCC would result in failure. The same issues can be experience by both methods and corrected by both (reflash in Flashtool and a replair in PCC). So as far as my understanding goes this statement seems misleading and fear inducing.
Yes, I see your point. And the risk is negligible. I just am not comfortable with bootloader being updated. "OTA".
That's just me though

I was using OTA via home wifi. If you have a stable internet, OTA is more easier.

Can't upgrade to Kit Kat

Hi Guys,
For some reason I cannot upgrade to Kit Kat...
When I plug my phone into PC Companion it says that I already have the latest version.
My problem started with the previous upgrade. All seemed well during the upgrade process but when I looked I had none of the new features and my build number still showed. 290
I tried to run it again but it said that I already has the latest firmware. Now it's refusing to recognise any new firmware telling me that I am updated when I'm not
Any advice anybody?

Hey no my phone is unlocked and simfree. It's just not recognising the firmware on my phone. I have not even been able to update to 136 as my firmware is on 290 still and it's telling me that I have the latest firmware... Which I obviously don't.

Happened to me too. Here's what I did. I flashed this ftf. You can flash any other KitKat ftf that you prefer in the general section. Just make sure that it has this firmware (14.3.A.0.681) and uses the same model number (C6903).
