I'm willing to stay on the current (stock) rom for a while - if I have stock 14.1.G.1.534 that I'm about to root - will I mess smth up if I update to 14.1.G.2.257 or any other version that'll be available through Z1 Update Center (assuming there will be one available for download through the handset software)
Regards
You will lose root if you update to .257
But you can root, install recovery on .534 and then flash a pre rooted 257 rom from the dev section
Thanks Greg. Don't know why xda app does that.

Actually I read a report yesterday that root was kept after an OTA update. I suppose it's just a "diff" being pushed out so it's not surprising, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for that guys - well then I'll try kingo root on first and then update to see what happens. Cheers
Rooted with kingo then OTA to 257 - root preserved

there is already .370 available would also appreciate to see a ftf of .370 because i need to relock my bootloader to install the update with SEUS/PC Companion (SGP311)
Just be informed that ...370 firmware makes tablet reboot when one tries to navigate /system (mounted r/w) in Root Explorer.

nope just need to do this with terminal emulator app:

This doesn't help.
SGP312 keep rebooting.
The terminal or adb output nothing for "stop ric".
Look @ this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42455143
But it won't help... Guess why... Still searching for a solution :-/

I've got Polish 370 and BT works fine.
SGP311 + Tapatalk 4
DJ-Tumor: I have a European version of Tablet Z. Originally, it came with .344 firmware which I rooted using some method floating around this forum. Then the update to .370 came. First, I installed OTA RootKeeper as advised by someone and made a backup of the root. Then I simply updated the tablet using the built-in Sony's Software update app.
After reboot, the system was still rooted. I am not sure if root survived the update or RootKeeper did it (I am not really familiar with the application). Nevertheless, I now have .370 rooted system and can verify that Bluetooth works fine (I just tried it and it discovered two BT device).
I have the 16GB model SGP311.
Good for you guys....but I still can´t update (Update impossible it says even though I ONLY ROOTED IT).
But what I wanted and seemingly no one understood... I NEED EUROPEAN FIRMWARE 344.
I have a feeling that it´s the Japan firmware why my tablet has infunctional Bluetooth.
Does anyone know when/if there will be an OTA update for the new 4.2.2 firmware? I have flashed a generic NL .253 .ftf and I also never received
the other updates OTA. I do want to update, but I want to keep root access. I know I can flash a new generic ftf and gain root access with the perf_event exploit, but just updating OTA is easier I guess. Thanks in advance!

Depends what you mean with easier.
If you're willing to wait another month (just an example) for the OTA then yes it would be easy.
You can flash the T-Mobile NL FTF, gain root, remove root within an hour. I'm quite sure that you will have to wait a lot longer then an hour for OTA to even come out.
A month does seem like an awful long time..

Did you root using the perf_event exploit? I caved in.. Downloading a generic NL stock rom right now. Installing and rooting asap, couldn't wait any longer

I guess we can create flashable zip from ftf only, cause not all system files gets updated through ota.
Sent from my C5502 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
is the flashable zip already pre-rooted? I mean, if I flash it, will I lose root privileges? I am currently on .244 firmware and rooted and I am just worried that if I flash this, I may lose root.
make a nandroid backup before trying it out. it's just what you get from an OTA flash which retains all user data, so I reckon it does nothing to root

So if I flash the 2.67 firmware, I won't lose my root privileges that I acquired on my .244 firmware? Sorry for the stupid question as this is the first time I will try to flash a zip firmware
Just received my repaired phone after an attempt to root 290 left it completely dead and not responsive to anything.
Very scary stuff, and I'm glad I didnt unlock the bootloader and the phone was still on warranty.
I'm interested in getting 257 rooted, so I flashed an unbranded FTF of 534 (excluded baseband) and rooted with kingo root.
I was thinking in doing and OTA to 257 but it only shows 290.
What can I do without unlocking the bootloader that is SAFE?
Same question here...
I don't like 290 and I just want stock rooted 257 without unlocking bootloader
Same here! Bluetooth Audio completely useless with 290 with 257 it was perfect

Odd, my BT Audio works fine in 290 - what's the problem?
I'd really like to stay away from using custom recoveries for the moment.
I've rooted and installed custom roms on multiple phones over the years, and I get the feeling that there are still many unknowns with the xperia Z1.
Users seem to be reporting random bricks on processes that should not produce a brick (I think there's a thread covering that)
Thats the main reason i'd like to get 257 rooted, as it was easy to install with no custom recovery and no unlocking of the bootloader.

Hi
I look after the company mobiles and we have around 30 Sony Xperia SP C5303 Mobiles
They are all on EE 4G in the UK
They run 4.1.2 (12.0.A.2.254)
Recently a few users have updated to 4.3 and now emails no longer work and the phones have become sluggish
So id like to revert back to 4.1.2
I want to keep warranty so i would like to restore from a stock rom
Id like to backup the rom from one of the 4.1.2 phones
I have read to use SUS but when i try the repair/reflash same version as suggested its not an option
The only option is to upgrade the firmware which is not what i want
Please how do i backup the firmware of our 4.1.2 phones so i can flash the ones that upgraded to 4.3?
Many thanks
The best option if you don't want to root every phone and install cwm is to use PCC to get the files if you plug one of the 4.1.2 phones into PCC and "repair" it is that an option or will it only allow an upgrade? I can do it for you I'm on EE 4.1.2 and the upgrade is not available for me yet so I can still download the 4.1.2fw if all your phones are due for an upgrade you then flash the file from PCC (there are tutorials on getting the files) with androxide and bin4rys flashtool.

PC Companions "repair" updated the phone from 4.1 to 4.3

Also to get the 4.1.2.ftf you don't let the repair process complete you interrupt it and pull the files out of PCC

My phone is now due an update so I can't get the 4.1.2 fw if you look for generic global 12.0.A.2.254 firmware then that will work.

I'm not sure: with the latest firmware being available, wouldn't PCC or SUS repair to 201 or 266?
When I recently flashed a 257 source from this forum, the phone notified me that there is an update to 254 (even though 266 was available then)
Maybe you can test one of the phones: flash a FULL 257 firmware (without wiping data) to see if it updates to 254.
Once it is done updating, the 254 firmware should be residing in one of your computer folders.
