Just received my repaired phone after an attempt to root 290 left it completely dead and not responsive to anything.
Very scary stuff, and I'm glad I didnt unlock the bootloader and the phone was still on warranty.
I'm interested in getting 257 rooted, so I flashed an unbranded FTF of 534 (excluded baseband) and rooted with kingo root.
I was thinking in doing and OTA to 257 but it only shows 290.
What can I do without unlocking the bootloader that is SAFE?
Same question here...
I don't like 290 and I just want stock rooted 257 without unlocking bootloader
Same here! Bluetooth Audio completely useless with 290 with 257 it was perfect

I made a guide in the past on how to get root on .257. Here it is:
This guide uses method described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440408

Odd, my BT Audio works fine in 290 - what's the problem?
I'd really like to stay away from using custom recoveries for the moment.
I've rooted and installed custom roms on multiple phones over the years, and I get the feeling that there are still many unknowns with the xperia Z1.
Users seem to be reporting random bricks on processes that should not produce a brick (I think there's a thread covering that)
Thats the main reason i'd like to get 257 rooted, as it was easy to install with no custom recovery and no unlocking of the bootloader.

I use a mw100 Bluetooth headset and with 4.2.2 all was fine nice sound quality with 4.3 it's sound like 64kbits distortion on high frequency and crackles. Yesterday I testet 4.4.2 slimKat Rom and the sound was fine again but there are other problems and the camera iss slow so I switched back to 4.3 : /

Does anyone know when/if there will be an OTA update for the new 4.2.2 firmware? I have flashed a generic NL .253 .ftf and I also never received
the other updates OTA. I do want to update, but I want to keep root access. I know I can flash a new generic ftf and gain root access with the perf_event exploit, but just updating OTA is easier I guess. Thanks in advance!

Depends what you mean with easier.
If you're willing to wait another month (just an example) for the OTA then yes it would be easy.
You can flash the T-Mobile NL FTF, gain root, remove root within an hour. I'm quite sure that you will have to wait a lot longer then an hour for OTA to even come out.
A month does seem like an awful long time..

I just did the original Japanese xperia z 4.2.2 update and it is fine it didn't change the language or anything I just flashed it over the old one done. Is even rooted. And It has no issues. So there is already ways on getting the official 4.2.2 update.

Did you root using the perf_event exploit? I caved in.. Downloading a generic NL stock rom right now. Installing and rooting asap, couldn't wait any longer

Rooted it really easy with doomlords rooting tool. Is basically a on click root.

Just download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2339421
Open flashtool
At wipe untick data and cache leave appslog ticked
This way you keep your root and your Phone will have in 5 minutes the latest version!
Done this yesterday myself
I'm willing to stay on the current (stock) rom for a while - if I have stock 14.1.G.1.534 that I'm about to root - will I mess smth up if I update to 14.1.G.2.257 or any other version that'll be available through Z1 Update Center (assuming there will be one available for download through the handset software)
Regards
You will lose root if you update to .257
But you can root, install recovery on .534 and then flash a pre rooted 257 rom from the dev section
Thanks Greg. Don't know why xda app does that.

Actually I read a report yesterday that root was kept after an OTA update. I suppose it's just a "diff" being pushed out so it's not surprising, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for that guys - well then I'll try kingo root on first and then update to see what happens. Cheers
Rooted with kingo then OTA to 257 - root preserved

I recently got the XPERIA SP(C5303) and I've been wondering whether I should root it or not.
From the information I've gathered currently, I can see a lot of people are having issues.
My main question is..
Is it worth rooting?
What are the pro's and con's of rooting this specific device (Xperia Sp)?
For example, will rooting disable the offline charging features?
What other aspect of the phone will be unavailable if I root..?
I really want to root but these problems are holding me back.
Can anyone reassure me?
Thank you very much.:good:

Despite the issues some uses face I would say rooting has more in favour for than against.
Before rooting you can use flashtools to backup your ROM into a ftf file so you can use of you don't like it.

I didnt know of any offline charging problems but from my experience ROOTed >>unRooted in every aspect.
And its really easy too if you dont undate to .254 version, just connect cable and use doomlords kit.
I have rooted and unlocked bootloader and everything works fine so dont be afraid and ROOT! :good:

repair with SEUS or PC compagnon
I have rooted my SP about 10 times give or take
The last 3 days i kept changing and trying roms and flashing kernels(i relocked and unlocked my bootloader 2 times) (most used program in my PC was flashtool )
But thats just extreme so i slowed down. Overall as zolaisugly said rooting helps you and dont mind about the small bugs that can be repaired easily
Also to make your decision easier you can use these apps : Titanium Backup , Greenify , Light Flow (helped me a lot) , Folder Mount , Link 2 SD !!!!
It just worth it !!!!
so i have a xperia sp with stock rom.id like to know what all problems can be caused by rooting the phone.and after rooting the phone, will the LED light strip stop working?

No ofcourse not (; don't worry. Nothing will be disabled, and for the offline charging bug, just make your own ftf from a repair with SEUS and you'll flash a bug free kernel when done rooting .254

Mere rooting of the phone does NOT give problems.
Unfortunately, with the advent of 4.3, "mere' rooting is not possible unless you install pre-rooted "custom" roms.
A few roms are simply "re-engineered" stock to allow root and recoveries - these give the least problems.
Other roms are modified, and thus have more chances of problems.
I installed this "near stock" rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704312 and had no problem
Because I wanted more than stock, I am now on this (the longest I have been on one rom): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658043
If you have your own stock in hand, try the above roms. If you encounter problems, it is easy to re-flash your stock.
Your greatest challenge would be to downgrade to 4.1.2 to root before you can install these roms.
I'm install Viper4Android FX and Viper4Android xHiFi on my device. It's not working with newest walkman app.
Then i uninstall both applications. After that, sound enhancement is not working at all. I can adjust value in app, but sound does not change.
I flash stock .136 firmware, flash adv stock kernel, monX 's custom ROM, flash PureXAudio v3 and it still not working :crying:. Anyone help me, pls..!!

A factory reset may help, sometime is needed after update to clean up. If stll not working you maybe have some compatibility issues in what you installed.
I has try flash stock 136 firmware via flash tool, it erase everything. But, no luck. I can't understand. Could it be that due to hardware?
Edit: I flash 290 firmware with doomlord v6 and it's working back. Is it because kernel or unlock bootloader?

You mean Sound Enhancement is not compatible with other applications installed in my device?
So I had revert to .136 stock ROM, but nothing change. I try some 136 rom but no luck. Only when i flash .290 firmware, it will run.

Anything can be the reason when you messing aroud with Roms, Kernels and apps, is not that simple. If is working on .290 then something wrong with .136.
Many thanks for your support. I'll stay on 290 and wait new ROM and kernel update.
Whenever I put the phone in vibrate mode or silent mode, it still lets all sound through. Notifications, ringtones, etc. The phone will show the silent or vibrate notification, but it doesn't have that effect.

You could try to update to either 2.254 (4.1.2) or .266 (4.3) because the current build you have running is a bit outdated

I'd love to, and tried both options tonight, but I couldn't get Flash Tool to root any other firmware, would always hang at "waiting for uevent_helper rw". So I just used my cwm backup and now I'm back to my old system with the same problems....
Any way to help either the Flash Tool problem or the volume problem?
