Unlocking bootloader on 4.4 - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
I have just purchased an Xperia Z1 and i'm loving it so far, I have just upgraded the phone to Android 4.4 OTA.
I would like to unlock the bootloader and flash a 4.4 Custom ROM, i got the phone with no warranty, so i will go through sony's official tool to unlock the bootloader.
As i will do that, do i still need to backup my TA partition? also i heard sometime ago that unlocking the bootloader through Sony's Website damages the Camera.
Is this still the case?
Thank you in advance.

Hi, you must downgrade to the 534 Firmware, then rooting and after that backup the TA Partition and after that flash an 4.4 ROM. if You finished you can unlock the Bootloader

Camera will work with unlocked Bootloader

Do i still need to do that even though i'm okay with losing my warranty? (as if i have one anyway)

Yes only when you unlock your bootloader you will lose warranty
Gesendet von meinem C6903 mit Tapatalk

Its your choice
If you are not bothered with the warrenty then there is no need to back up
Personally I notice no difference without the DRM keys

Can't i just unlock the bootloader through sony without backing up the TA and then using a custom rom and recovery?

yes you can
But if you ever want to use a warrenty then you will need to relock and put the TA back
If you are not bothered then there is no need to back it up

Easiest way to Root Xperia Z any firmware

Got my hands over Xperia Z
was going through all the forums to root my device
doomlord 's way failed because the firmware i have is newer than what is been tested by Doomlord.
than i tried what i always do
ok I'm repeating myself this time on Xperia forum.
1) unlock bootloaders from sony's own site
2) flash Doomlords kernel for stock firmware which is with recovery
3) get into recovery and flash the zip attached
now you have super user and can install all that stuff needs root.
have a nice day!
And now you also have
1.Invalidate warranty
2.Bravia Engine 2 will not work anymore
3.Download music info, trackid... may also not work..
Doomlords way is fully working on locked bootloader you just need to downgeade kernel. If you have newer fw

1. Music Info works
2.And yes you're right dooms method works like a charm , no need to unlock bl just for rooting
@general: well it's obviously that you can root you device this way, because your bl unlocked. If you don't plan to use a custom kernel /rom you better root using doom's method.

in germany it's like that: if you buy a new product, the law enforces the manufacturer/dealer to give a 2-year-warranty on the product. this 2-year-warranty can't be reduced or limited (normally).
the manufacturer/dealer might give an optional warranty for another X years, but that's up to him.
so sony might say that their additional, optional, voluntary warranty might get lost when unlocking the bootloader, but they cannot reject the warranty enforced by law. to do so, they will have to prove that unlocking the bootloader is definitely the cause for the devices' fault.
let's say the power button isn't working anymore, and the device is 1 year old, then sony can't reject only because of an unlocked bootloader. it will be very hard for them to plausible prove that unlocking the bootloader damaged the power button. if the device is, let's say, 3 years old, then they can reject.
at least in germany this is the case, and i guess in many other countries as well. in germany they distinguish between "gewährleistung" (warranty by law) and "garantie" (optional, voluntary warranty given by manuf./dealer).
(unfortunately, i don't know the proper english translation for the german words, and my translation app shows "warranty" in both cases.)
I read on these forums that even requesting B/L unlock code from Sony is sufficient grounds to deny warranty - whether you unlock or not

Easiest root ever is with program called KINGO ANDROID ROOT its only one click root. No need for kernel downgrada, i use it on official .67 firmware and it works like charm. I saw it somewhere on xda and download it its imba.

Kernel

Hi there, just want to know
What is a kernel
Why do I need it
Which is the best for xperia z
How do I install it?
Short explanation: a kernel is the communication interface between software and hardware. If you haven't one, you can't use your phone.
There are custom kernels and stock kernels. Stock kernels are by SONY and they are not "something special". Custom Kernels are by devs(example from the xda forum).
With custom kernels you can for example overclock your cpu. Also you can save a bit of your battery life with some settings.
But for flash a custom kernel, you need to make a TA backup(to keep warranty), then unlock your bootloader.

Yes. After unlocking bootloader we loose the drm keys, which are unique. So normally we have to save them with a TA backup.
SONY can check if they are available. But if you once have to send it to SONY, relock the bootloader and try it. "SONY is sometimes a bit lazy" and doesn't check if they are available. Some users also forgot to relock the bootlader and they repaired it.

You need to backup it before unlocking operation.

[Q] What is the difference ?? Help !

So .. I've the latest firmware for my region which is (14.2.A.1.136) .. And I want to Root my Phone .. but I found nothing on rooting that specific firmware
All I found was rooting the (14.2.A.0.290) Firmware.. and the only thread I found about rooting my own Firmware it needed to "downgrade" to the (14.2.A.0.290) firmware and nothing about upgrading again after rooting .. and I don't want to downgrade my phone
So my question is.. Is it possible to root my firmware(14.2.A.1.136) the same method used in rooting the (14.2.A.0.290) "and I feel the answer to this question is no"
And if I have to downgrade .. is there a difference between the two firmwares ? or is it the same .. and if it's not the same may you please post the change log between them ??:fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance
You must downgrade to the 290 Firmware, then rooting and install the recovery. Then you can update via Custom Rom back to .136 Firmware

He's right, you need to downgrade to 534, root, then use the thread he linked to update to 136 rooted using [Nut]'s modified ROM. Just a note to add is that in the thread it says you need to be on 290 rooted to upgrade to his 136. However, you can go straight from 534 (rooted) to 136 using the same method. (You get to 290 the same way you get to 136, by downgrading then flashing. You don't have to do it twice, it's fine to skip 290 and go 534 right to 136).

xperia z1 waranty after BL unlock and relock

simple question: did someone send his/her xperia z1 to sony to repair something after he unlocked (and relocked, ta backup etc) this bootloader? can sony notice if the bootloader was unlocked?
If you unlocked the bootloader and didn't relock it, Sony can see the bootloader is open.
If you did TA backup and restore it for close the bootloader, Sony won't see it.
