I have an issue with Netflix playing 5.1 sound. It doesn't show me the option in the device when I want to cast, I tried my Galaxy SIII, my Acer A500 tablet and the chrome google cast extension.
Works everything but only show me the options English (Stereo) Spanish (Stereo) or Portugues (Stereo) in the audio icon
If I use the same account in a PS3 of a friend with the same shows, works fine, but in my devices not work. Any ideas?

My Netflix has not given me anything beyond Stereo so far, but most of the content I've been casting probably doesn't have surround anyway.

I tried content like Star Trek (The New Movie) or Dr. Who (New Seasons), everything new stuff with the 5.1 legend and tested in the PS3 with real 5.1 capabilities, so it's anoying.

Well we know surround is possible on the CCast so I would guess that the CCast Player App Netflix is using doesn't support surround yet.
Not sure if they have a support forum but complaining loudly there might get them off their butt on implementing it.
It is possible to do 5.1 but your device must let chromecast know that it could.
Examples my chromecast connect to Vizio TV then TV output to a Yamaha 4300 7.1 soundbar = stereo
But chromecast to the yamaha 4300 soundbar then soundbar using HDMI ARC to TV = glorious 5.1

OK. I doomed, because my Phillips Blue Ray it's my 5.1 amp too, and doesn't have HDMI In, just HDMI-ARC or optical/coaxial in... If I try with an optical cable I have the same Issues?

Not doomed yet...Just need to find a workaround....
Is the TV surround capable? (Maybe not but if it has HDMI-ARC I have to assume it is)
Check the audio settings on your TV. They maybe spread all over the place unfortunately.
There will be one MAIN audio section for general TV settings. But each Input on the TV may have it's own separate Audio settings and they will show up on the menu that controls inputs.
It is possible that it isn't the TV not communicating with the CCast but the fact the Input or TV is not set to use Surround and therefore is not passing it to your Amp.
If you can tell me what Brand and Model TV you have I might be able to help you more on where to look for the settings that are tripping you up.
If your TV supports ARC I can't imagine it would not support Surround so it must be a setting that is wrong that is causing this issue.
I am having a similar issue, my LG connects to my Yamaha Receiver (which is older and does not have HDMI inputs.) via the optical input and passes through 5.1 from my Roku and even it's own Netflix app, but nada from my CC.

The CC will only output DD+ 5.1 audio from Netflix and won't (possibly can't) downgrade this to DD 5.1 as other devices can. Not sure about the Roku but PS3 definitely can downgrade to DD5.1
If your audio receiving device doesn't support DD+ (only newer devices do) then you won't get 5.1 from Netflix CC.

Yes. I have the cable receiver conected to the HDMI 1 of my Philips 32PFL4017G TV, the HDMI 2 to the CC and the HDMI 3 to my Philips HTS3541 Blu-ray via HDMI-ARC. If I use the cable tv receiver I have 5.1, the same if I broadcast some video via DLNA from my CPU, so something it's wrong but I don't know what.
I also own a Phiilips TV and my Chromecast doesn't send 5.1 audio to my Logitech z-5550. Some may argue that my Z-5550, doesnt support, but HGO GO doesn't work either.
Just for information, I also do own a Roku 3 (which doesn't have a spdif output) and I have to rely on the spdif out of my Philips TV to send 5.1 to my Z-5550 and it works flawlessly, even using Netflix that supports only Dolby Digital Plus.
Apparently there is something odd going on with Chromecast and Philips TVs.
I am going to test this using the same setup and a Sony TV.

Same situation in my bedroom except for my TV being an LG and my sound bar being a Yamaha.
Roku3 outputs 5.1 as does the native LG Netflix app.

DD+ requires HDMI, it won't go over spdif (requires too much bandwidth) so either something is converting it to DD, or youre not getting true 5.1
I too have a Samsung TV that I will be connecting my Chromecast to, and then SPDIF from the TV to my Logitech Z-5500 receiver.
Has anyone managed to pull such a setup off and get surround sound? I am debating wether or not to buy a chromecast when I go to the states in two weeks
the main problem is, the HDMI arc (or optical) wont support DD+, only DD.. but Netflix (Chromecast) only supports DD+, so its a no go..
i use chromecast to most of my netflix use, but if i realy want to use 5.1 i use the netflix client on my bluray player ( as it is my receiver too )
the only way to get 5.1 sound from chromecast on netflix is to use a receiver with hdmi input!
I have already got MK808 android stick, which is 1.2 GHz dual core with Mali 400 GPU.
After using it long as general purpose device, decided to convert it as media centric device, with 2.1 speaker setup
I am facing following limitations,
1. Not able to play HD/1080 videos smoothly
2. Tried USB sound card to connect it to 2.1 speaker, but quality is not good
So I started to look for alternate devices. I liked RPI 2 especially due to it's support, but before buy, I have some questions unanswered
1. Since I have 1.2 GHz device, I am just wondering with RPI 2 being 900 MHz, is it powerful enough device as media PC. Especially can we consider it for future proof (may be 3 years)? I am thinking because, I don't want to fall in situation to buy another device only after next 1 year due to RPI2 limitation.
2. When I add case, WiFi dongle, power cable, HDMI cable etc, it's going to about 75 USD. At this price, there are many choices like,
# Android stick MXIII, which seems more powerful with android support
# Dedicated media player like,
http://www.amazon.in/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=media+player
But I don't know, how to compare those with RPI 2 and conclude which one will be more powerful and future proof
Any suggestion?

I have been using Raspberry Pi 2 B+ for a month as media center with the Rasplex OS. I have tried 1080p, 720p and a few different formats like mp4 mkv, avi etc and they all work fine, even while seeking. The main reason for this could be that the processing/trans-coding of the video is done on the server(the files are not stored on Pi, and no HDD is connected to it.) This all works on a WiFi adapter.
If You can use Plex app on Your Android Stick and use a plex server somewhere, You won't need to buy a Pi. Although You would need to buy Plex pass to come over restriction in Android app I think.
Rpi 1 can run almost limitless video bitrate via smb share. But it has issues with very heavy audio since 1 pi's processing power is not great basically. But mines 1 still run movies with 10mbps video and 5mbps audio well. Above that it starts to buffer maybe its network bottlenecking. Audio quality via hdmi is great. I got a pi 2 just a while ago looking forward to test it with openelec. I have chromecast stick too i think that i wouldn't need rpi if i didn't had media at local share. Chromecast is far more better if u use only netflix, viaplay, youtube, popcorn, etc and can use it with android device phone/tablet.
Thanks for replies.
Has anyone connected it to 2.1 speaker system?
Because, that is my one of the aim.
Can anyone tell quality if connected to AV cable/stereo jack?
And, is it possible to get video through HDMI cable and audio through AV cable to 2.1 speaker?
Can someone, who already have similar configuration, help me out to build similar one.

How do you rate quality through AV cable out?
I believe, AV out doesn't give good quality as HDMI.
Through USB sound card on my MK808, I am loosing bass. Woofer doesn't give any sound.
I am worried, same should not be with RPI as I'll loose all fun of watching movies.

Unfortunately, my LED TC has onlu audio jack. So, if I connect 2.1 system with it, I get very low volume.
So, only option to get sound from RPI AV jack.
Can you check in your system with AV jack and report the difference in output?
Any though on

Composite video out quality is pretty good. On OpenELEC, playing 720p live stream Russia Today. Output is classic PAL resolution. Image quality is better than 576p SD DVB-S thru SCART with good quality sat reciever. I have big old widescreen CRT Panasonic Quintrix TV.
If you play any 720p movie, quality will be comparable to DVD player with SCART.
I dont know how is your audio input for these 2.1 speakers. Just single 3 pole 3.5mm or also separate one for subwoofer? If it need 2 connectors then you need 5.1 sound card with (usually orange) center/subwoofer connector.
I think you should turn up your headphone volume on your tv

Ideal for local media or media on a NAS but not being able to access Netflix, Hulu etc (like you can on Android) might be a bit of a put off. Shame really coz the Pi2 is more than powerful enough to support these streaming services
Hi All,
I have lately ventured into th Androi dheadunits world and have been really happy the functionality they bring with them.
I am using a USB dac hifimediy to get audio out from the HU. The HU is a HA version and is on 5.1.1
I dont get the generic Android sounds via the DAC. When the DAC is connected i don't get any sounds from HU. I only get any sound play from UAPP. Rest all the apps which play music doesnt output to USB dac even if i am playing low bitrate MP3
Is this behavior expected or there is something that can be done? Thanks in advance
P.S: i have the "Prevent audio rout to USB" disabled in Developer options

I cannot recall the exact reason, but I recall reading something in this thread about how they are separated. Perhaps @7floor may be able to answer.
Got the same problem.. Connected Asus Xonar U7 and no main sounds from android, only via usb player apps. Android 5.0 supposed to support native usb audio? :/ Also RK3188 & Android 5.1.1.
It may take you some time searching, but at least one person deffo got a USB DAC working on these units, your ll have to search the original thread which is here :

I have noticed this is a widespread issue and I've decided to raise it. This needs to be fixed and Huawei should stop ignoring this problem. The Bluetooth is basically crippled and locked to SBC. I've tested multiple devices and all exhibited this behaviour. Why is it ignored? Are all the reviews fake?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-sifkojUqw
i read that Bluetooth options in pixel dont stick too. so it must be some wierd oreo crap. you cant even change gpu renderer. it always defaults back. best way to handle that is to chat with huawei support and check it out.
I don't use Bluetooth very much but it appears to be the same for the regular Mate 10 as well. I'm currently using my virtual desktop so I could not test if after changing the setting in developer mode does it stick after a reboot?
this confusion is due to a lack of follow-through. all oreo devices have this "issue". it's not an issue at all. if a connected bluetooth device supports these codecs, the best one will automatically be selected. it is not limited to huawei devices. this is normal and does not affect functionality. you should take down this thread so no one throws any fits for no reason.
Well mine switches to aptX automatically when I connect to aptX-compatible devices. However you are correct that I cannot manually change it in developer settings.
Further testing has shown this issue not to be an issue, I've managed to successfully connect to an APTX device and the codec was selected. Video removed. Apologies for this confusion.

It's not crippled, it's buggy.
SBC and aptX have high noise floor and specially on SBC, it causes some deformations to the Audio.
AAC is totally broken.

It's the best Bluetooth can do in the Audio section.

I don't have a clue what you guys talking about with all those 3 and 4 letter/digit combinations of names but i feel I've gotta share i use Bluetooth all day long for different kinds of profiles and i mean all day long, and to say this doesn't fail nearly as much as nougat did would mean i imply it does fail to a certain, however small, degree, which isn't even close to being the case, so... But i do notice the in band ringing settings don't stick just like they don't stick in my Oreo S5...
I've had Android phones since 2012 and the Huawei mate 10 pro is the only one with Bluetooth issues. Constantly dropping parts of songs when connected to my mazda 6. Infuriating to say the least. The most expensive phone I've ever had....

Does the option only change when connected to a compatible Bluetooth receiver? I thought my car receiver was compatible but if that's the case then I guess not.
I had the same issue with regards to Bluetooth defaulting to SBC, after some reading I discovered that it was possible to change the Bluetooth mode on my headphones by holding a button combination, it went from prefer connection to prefer sound quality and unlocked aptx and LDAC on my Sony MDR-1000X. So the P20 Pro is definitely capable of it without any additional codecs.
Maybe read the manual for your device and see if it also has something like this.

On my OnePlus One i can change the audio codec, it should not depend on the bluetooth headphones connected. My Mpow Wolverine sounds way better with the One Plus One, on the P20 pro it sounds like sh*** ;any suggestion?
I have headphones that are both SBC and AAC compatible.
Paired to my pixel, aac works great.
Paired to p20, it sutters, skips and is stuck on SBC
I noticed when there is an actual icon just after the Bluetooth device name of my headphones that says 'APT-X', in the phones Bluetooth settings.... My previous Huawei P9 didn't have it or support it so did surprise me a little as I didn't look into it when switching.

Contentear Huawei Team, I have purchased my P20 Pro during a first sales week at your store in Singapore. In general, I am happy with it, but, I have COMPLETELY confused with your audio experience. PROBLEM: I own two pairs of headphones: Bose QuietComfort 30 and PowerBeats 3. I don't understand why I am not able to tweak EQ over the bluetooth! S7 was able to do it, old Sony Z2 was able to do it too, but 1000$ phone by Huawei with triple camera and AI can't provide damn equalizer! I don't need any processing by Dolby, I just want to add some bass, because I am lisening to EDM, not a classical music, I don't need a analytical audio presentation. Then, codec selection is broken! PowerBeats are not able to get their native AAC, and Bose are working in SBC mode. What a shame! I can't tweak audio, and I have to listen compressed nonsense. I didn't expect that I will have to deal with such problem in the 1000$ phone. Please, release the software update, I would like to have at least eq.

My Sony MDR100's use LDAC and sound great. They have a built in EQ profile that kicks in once they are powered on according to reviews. I could of sworn it was using APTX HD at first but I was mistaken.

Ah, I didn't know the P20 Pro supported LDAC.
Just got to wait for my Bose to sell on eBay now
Tried on a few different headphones here. Seems apt-X is working, AAC is not.
110 firmware.
My p20 pro is on order and not arrived yet, but what you should try is:
1. Clear bluetooth connection of remembered device
2. Enable Developer settings, go to settings->about phone->click on 'buid number' a bunch of times (8?? from memory)
3. Go to: Settings->developer settings->the bluetooth sections and select whatever you want to be the normal
4. Re-connect your bluetooth device. If its compatible then it will default to your previous selection.
At least, this is how it works on my S8, Zenphone 3 deluxe and Oneplus 3T, with my Sony WH-1000XM2 and audiotechnica headsetsand WI-1000X.
But they all have custom roms and i have never had a Huawei so im not 100% sure.
In theory the Bose QC 35 ii headphones support both SDC and AAC but I can't select AAC in the developer settings. Are others having the same experience?

Yeah I get the same issue with the bose headphones but ldac works when I connected to a sony speaker
Im in the process of buying some earphones that supportthe newer aptx low latency codec as I will be using them for gaming aswell. We know p20 pro supports aptx and aptx HD but does it support aptX LL

Yeah just received my Anker SoundBuds Curve headphones and it shows aptX next to the connection in the bluetooth settings. I guess AAC isn't supported as it's not listed on Huawei's tech specs page- https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/phones/m/p20-pro/tech-specs/ I also don't see aptX LL on there so I supposed that's also not supported
I've changed nothing. Only installed .128 Firmware with funky Huawei. When I connect my Ultrasone Sirius Bluetooth Headset there is automatically a aptx-Icon near the name. Nothing to change in developer-settings. See my picture on instagram:
