Flash Bleed on normal Z1 ! - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just used my Xperia Z1 for taking photos and i realised it has flash bleed!
Im not using any case or bumper.
Is this normal?! Can anyone take a picture at night with flash light on and post it here so we can have a reference ?
I thought this was only a Z1C issue !?
Sony... ffs.
Image attached, shot at night with Manual Mode.

Do you have a back protective film on your Z1?
I've heard that sticking a protective film on the back of the Z1 causes this issue
Sent from my C6906 using Tapatalk

Wow i really forgot that.
Yes i do, It doesnt cover the LED or the camera though. - i will peel it off and report again soon.
Is there any Protective Film that doesnt cause this issue ? Some Sort of Tempered Glass?

This is my flash bleed.
I do have a case.
Only happens at a certain scene or angle
Never had that on 4.3 with the case
but maybe i just didn't notice it before.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk

Happened to me before, sine I have a back protective film.
Check the gap between your camera and flash, if the protective film is there then just cut it out (what I did with mine), then your bleed should go away.
Everytime that you put something in between the camera and the flas whether its film or case, then you'll get the bleed.I think the light crawls underneath it causing it.
Try it then let us know!
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app

had on my Z1 before, it is either the problem of case or back screen protector(mine didn't cover the camera or flash too), after i removed the back screen protector, i never got the flash bleed problem anymore, i used the baseus flip case before, and it caused me flash bleed, now i am using normal case and camera work perfectly , it is certainly not hardware problem like Z1s.

I've noticed this with white xperia z1.
It doesn't happen on the black ones.
Ok the whites, the light reflects over the white glass at the back to expose the bottom of the camera lens.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk

Did you saw the flash of Z2? It's more distanced from the lens. Weird, right? Why correct the phone structure when it supposed to make amazing pictures. Maybe I know why! The flash is too close to the lens on Z1. Now we have to pay attention an every detail or settings to make the pictures right.

Bro, It happened to me too on my Z1 & (FIXED)
what caused the flash bleed?... well, It's definitely the back screen protector that i applied because It doesn't have a camera and flash cut out, so they are covered.
The pics below shows the flash bleeding in some shots and the others after I peeled off the back screen protector. All the pics were taken in a dark places.
All were taken using manual mode @ 20mp with two Flash types: Auto Flash & Flash fill
1- Flash Auto (with back screen protector on)
2- Flash Auto (back screen protector peeled off)
3- Flash Auto (with back screen protector on)
4- Flash Auto (back screen protector peeled off)
5- Flash Auto (with back screen protector on)
6- Flash Auto (back screen protector peeled off)
7- Flash fill (with back screen protector on)
8- Flash fill (back screen protector peeled off)
9- Flash fill (with back screen protector on)
10- Flash fill (back screen protector peeled off)

This is my flash bleed. Even outside at night is worse.

All Sony phones have this... At least the ones I know of. I don't trust Sony when it comes to camera in phones anymore

Lol.
I just find out that mine is having the same problem but i don't think warranty will cover this. My phone is 1month old.
Great...back to my shortlist of upgrade options.

Same peeling here too.
I suffer the same. Although less prominent and less exposed.
I noticed it after about 1 week at the headphones plug. Front side, above the camera hole, right above the clock display. Which I find odd, as this is at a spot where nothing touches the device. I will observe the issue and possibly go for an exchange if it worsens.

Why not import an unlocked one from overseas? Better than having to pay for an over-expensive data plan and being struck on contract.
Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I've only had my Xperia T for a few days and already noticed some blank spots, just around the headphone jack and also a little scratch on the back. It actually doesn't bother me that much, since I had an iPhone 5 before and that looked MUCH worse after the first week... but if my XT is going to look the same in a few weeks, I'll definitely think about contacting Sony.

This was my initial plan. I since decided to rather not commit to the stress of the import process...not to mention if the device needs to be returned? I have really bad luck with phones, hence my concern over this thread.

Unfortunately same problem here, after one week of usage already have 3 blank spots.
I have T in use for a 4 weeks, no such a problem.
Does this only apply to Xperia t? Or the Xperia tl too? From the information I got, the Xperia tl has a different t back. Plastic top and bottom with metal in the middle I'm just not so sure whether the top and bottom is the same material as the Xperia t
Same here, a little nick in each corner of the device. Not impressed, have just received back my Xperia Tablet after they announced the waterproofing issue.
No point in exchanging, will just happen again the the back of the T,
Same problem here, I got some ugly silicone cover to stop any further peeling.
Hope replacement back covers for XT will show up in future.

I'm not to happy to hear this at all I've had mine for little over a week now and have not noticed this yet but will probably break down and cry when I do,this just ruined my night :-#
But actually I've just come to notice that the phone in these pictures isn't made of the same material as mine, mine has this soft rubbery plastic at both ends that feels quite nice and should help protect it from dings and scratches I don't see this in these pics it looks to be all one material straight through on the back of the phone am I right ?

You do realize that most people with this issue is with the Xperia T (LT30p) not the Xperia TL (LT30a) which is the north american version you have right?
LT30p - full plastic with coating
LT30a - Top and bottom plastic with coating, and Anodized Aluminum cover (mid section)
I've addressed this at Sony Mobile forum, and apparently some guy said the LT30a's back has the same plastic coating material as the LT30p;s back. Which I am still unsure of.
I've nearly checked all sites with videos/pictures and I do see some differences between the plastic part of the two version. I haven't gotten my LT30a yet, which will arrive next week. I do hope it doesn't have this issue, as i usually dont use cases.
Since you mentioned the difference of the two plastic coating, I would assume it is two different plastic with different coating?
No problem with my Xperia T, but i have a very nice silicom cover around it
got my phone 6 weeks now and it still looks brand new

Here in Canada it's still called the Xperia T but is still the same (Lt30a) model Xperia TL after reading I was looking at the model number of the people's phones who had replied to this forum but not all had used there phones to do so
the phone doesn't feel so plasticy or coated it's a solid device though it is actually plastic that they use on the back two different types .

Dust in screen?!?!

I seem to have a spec of something in the screen, I just noticed it yesterday. I'm 100% sure it was not there before as its on the white part of the gmail icon on my homescreen, so if it was there before I would have noticed it.
I'm also pretty certain it's not a dead pixel as it appears above the text on my screen. Also if I position some text so the corner or edge of a letter just touches it, it seems to shift if I look at it in different angles which would indicate its not a pixel but something above the actual LCD panel.
Not sure how to explain this better, but I have seen LCDs with dead pixels, something behind the LCD panel, and something between the LCD and glass, and this definitely looks like it something above the lcd.
The thing is, the Xperia Z LCD panel is meant to be bonded directly to the LCD, so there is no air gap, so theoretically nothing can get between the LCD and the glass.
Anyway, I just ordered a usb microscope (always wanted one anyway) which should arrive tomorrow so I can get a better look at this and figure out what is going on.
Just really bugging me at the moment, also heard that sony has been refusing repairs on Xperia Z with less than 3 faulty pixels, so also worried if it is indeed a pixel.
OK, it is definitely dust or something in my screen, I have tried shining a bright LED into the screen and I can see a speck with the screen off, exactly where the the black spec shows up on my screen is on.
I thought the whole lcd was meant to be bonded to the screen removing the whole of the air layer. as shown on sony's website.
Anyone have similar issue? or know about if there is indeed a gap between the lcd and the glass?
Well, no one seems interested in this thread, but here goes anyway. Just in case someone does have same issue later on:
usb microscope arrived today and here are the pictures:

Under 500X
It clearly shows that its not a dead or stuck pixel. there is definitely something between the LCD and the glass. Which would mean that there is a gap between the LCD and the front glass. I thought that there isn't a gap as the LCD is bonded to the glass.
Have to find time to take it to sony and see what they say I guess.

Thankfully there are people who share their problems even when no one was intetested like in this thread I am curious how this issue end up for the dust owner Well, I have bought Z1 Compact and it seems I'm facing the same problem. Firstly, I thought that maybe dead pixel appeared after few days but can't be - that black spot is seen even when the screen is turned off. It's very small but for me makes huge difference.
Hello everyone!!
I need help quickly! I have the same problem with my XZ, i have dust under the digitizer (only visible on white and green light), if I send it on RMA, will they change the screen and digitizer (I heard somewhere that they need to do that because it's sticked together), or just clean the dust?
Thanks in advance

well, three months ago I used sony stock based rom(semc camera) and now I use CM11(but has some sony technology - check FXP225 athttps://sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia/download/progress), furthermore I'm getting result like this with sony stock rom camera app these days anyway.
another comparison, this time with HD2.
and again, same conditions.

HD2
and finally a shot of lens of my xperia v (shot with HD2)
I really need to fix it before 12/27(UTC+9).. because I have a flight to japan that day and purpose of going is to travel.. and I really want to take pictures with my xperia v.. due to the fact that I don't have a better camera than it..
I ordered my one from HK, because sony is not selling xperia devices in my country.. so I can't get sony c/s and have to fix it my self and I don't think FedEx economy will deliver the ordered part by than.. and UPS Express(?) costs almost 99euros..
well I read what I wrote and it's just like a long line of complaining
but any way I wanna ask you guys if there are some one else is having similar lens damage like me or is it just happening me?
and it would be grateful if some one tells me a solution of this situation

have you tried glasses/lens cleaning solution? Spray a little bit and wipe the lens with a cloth. I'm not sure if it'll do much though.
The close up is not good enough to see damage details.
used glass towel with glass cleaner(blue liquid) and blur disappeared!
until now I only used glass towel.. but I can't fiqure out why the lens got stained..;
but..
but of course scratches and some sort of exfoliation of coating(?) is still there..
it's not affecting the image quality(at least for now, I think..) but it's a proof of the fact that xperia V's lens is easy to get scratched ;(
any way ordered middle housing, which contains rear camera lens, apparently lens is not sold stand alone.
ordered black one to make mixture of white model and black model, white back cover with black middle hoop and shiny chrome(?) port covers!
and thanks for advise!

Good to hear!
Consider not using a regular glass / window cleaner on coated glass. It may contain tensides / ammoniac which some coating don't like. What you need is a liquid designed for optical glass, or methyl alcohol, and a microfibre. Remove dust and other particles with a brush or by blowing before cleaning. Don't dry-clean optical glass. At least breath on it first and then use the microfibre. If there are still smudges use a drop of the methyl alcohol on the microfibre.
until now i used typical ones to clean lenses.. thanks for useful information!
taking care of lenses is harder than I thought..
hope new lens I ordered keep good condition.

people tend to underestimate the cheap Chinese protectors..they don't cause any drop in touch sensitivity, and still provide enough protection from these little scratches.

I put a screen protector on it since I got mine. After one week I took that of because I just hate the feel of those things.
Been pampering it since day one, and hey presto, after just a few days I find myself a very superficial scratch at the bottem. No idea how that got there since me and sexy Nexy where still in the honeymoon period and I kept it away from anything that looked at it wrong so I quess it's the infamous dust particle in pocket story. It's so superficial I really have to look for it under bright light and can't feel it either. Oleophobic coating perhaps.
After this first encounter I gave up the pampering, It's a phone and it's bound to get some more scratches
mines had a protector and case since day 1 also.
I'm really temped to go naked on the device like my Nexus and Nexus 4...
Everytime I take my N5 out of the case.. its so nice, feels like a waste to have in a case all the time... that's just me though lol
Mine still has the original plastic on the front. Still haven't found a real screen protector that didn't look like a scam.

Sony Xperia Z1 is using Dragontrail on the front and Gorilla glass on the back, that impact was just a bad luck

WTH? Our phone is that unprotected? I wasn't expecting that :/
Man, I wish your phone (and you) get better.
Z1 isn't hard to replace the screen. Did for mine with no issues. Check witrigs.com for instructions and all the needed parts.

i'm shocking because of that! i dont know. maybe there are some weak points or that was quite a bad bad bad luck
but i think a screen guard ( which i removed 3days ago) could protect it a little bit better.maybe It wouldn't break if the screen guard was installed.by the way , I was expecting the touch to stand working but now my z1 is useless totally! keeps yours safe and try using a front covered case.

man the problem is money ! in Iran these parts are totally expensive (about 250 US$) just for screen!which 1$ is 3000Tomans and i just earn 600,000Tomans each month
but thanks for noticing. I may one day try to replace it by my own!
It's just bad luck m8, I feel for you but the fact of the matter is the devices now cracked and it'd be impossible to convince Sony or your provider of how it happened and to get a sympathetic ear, looks to me like you'll have to either fix it yourself or claim on insurance.
Did you insure it? How old is it if not? You may be able to add insurance on from your provider, I know EE in the UK offer this service at any time.
It's actually Dragontrail glass. But both Gorilla and Dragontrail are NOT unbreakable: they are harder, so they are less likely to scratch, but that makes them more prone to break. Diamonds, for example, are the hardest material known; but they break/chip very easily. Our phones are like that, if there's a light impact on the wrong angle the screen will shatter easily.

The Z1 scratches quite easily. My S4 remained pristine after over a year of use, so did my Galaxy Note. This scratched within a month and continues to get minor scratches over time.
I hear you with the scratches, i've had cases on my phone since day one and there are scratches on the back of the phone, it's never been without a case and i take very good care of my devices, the front and back now have Zagg shields on them so they're ok now but yea it does scratch very easily, especially the back.
Its breakable anyhow.
It's quite breakable as far as i noticed, and also scratcahble All tested and failed..

By the way, the touch screen is too expensive like 200 euros..
It's realy looks like i gonna sell it out soon..
I was walking to my car today and dropped my phone...It landed flat on the screen. Picked it up and it had about 5 pretty bad scratches on it, but when I got home I took the stock screen protector off and it looks brand new now.

That can be only coincidence. Have you ever noticed or heard that it's getting scracthed while all protecters on ?
Wonder why they produce so expensive mobiles that breaks so easly... I think we are the lazy consumers who don't search enough
It's all about luck chaps, i've dropped a phone from the top of a cupboard which is around 9 feet up onto slate, one single dent nothing else and yet i've seen someone drop the same phone from less than 2 feet and the whole screen has smashed ? Not worth trying to figure out, once that phones in free fall it's simply a case of luck.
Oh i forgot, we also threw a 9320 blackberry down some stairs, concrete covered with lino, around 50 steps. Some bumps and bruises but no cracks
In my phone too
by the way since i dont have enough money to buy a new phone ( z1 or z2 or any other new phones) I decided to repair it  and planning for the z3 . beacuase in Iran there is no insurance for phones ( just for HTC ) and no warranty and even if I had the bootloader is unlocked so its voided . the only concern here is for replacement cares. most of repairers dont care enough so you will see the repair marks on body.
one question , the new lcd even the original one (which i want to use) has the same quality ? does it fit on body completely? the colors? every thing is the same?
I think so
