[Q] S-off but bootloader locked stock recovery and no root - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I have been trying to restore my device to stock and I think I misread something or made a mistake. Anyhow here is where I am..
Hboot 1.55
Phone is S-off
Bootloader is Relocked
I do not have root and I am at stock recovery.
I do not seem to be able to unlock my bootloader using fastboot oem unlock. When I try to push SU or a Custom recovery I get Failed Remote not allowed.
Can anyone point me to how I should go about getting root or the boot loader unlocked?
Thanks so much!

I was worried about doing this because in another thread somewhere someone suggested this and then someone else jumped all over them saying that this was causing all kinds of issues. While waiting for a reply it dawned on me that I still had my original unlock bin so I unlocked it using the original command. And then was able to complete the steps to un-tamper my device.
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to me this community has been an excellent resource.

[Q] S-OFF problem for Nexus One

I used a XTC CLIP to unlock my Nexus One. It was done and the HBOOT showed S-OFF, but I cannot excute fastboot command to flash recovery. It showed FAILED not allowed. That seemed the phone wasn't really S-OFF. Is there anyone could help please?
HBOOT 0.35.0017
I was just upgrade to 2.3.6
Did you do "fastboot oem unlock"? You have S-OFF but does not mean your bootloader is unlocked. If you don't like the lock on your bootscreen, you can do "fastboot oem lock" to lock up the bootloader after you have flashed your recovery. This is possible when you have S-OFF.

I don't want to excute "fastboot oem unlock" because I don't want to lose my data. Is there any way to unlock my Nexus One by using XTC Clip? What should I do?
No, there is none. But there's another way.
You can use BLACKROSE hack in the Development section to use engineering commands and fastboot flash without having to execute fastboot oem unlock, if you're worried about losing data.

Thank you very much. I want to backup my /data folder so I need root my phone. That's why I wanted my phone to be S-OFF. Is there a way to root my phone without unlock the bootloader? The BLACKROSE hack needs S-OFF or Root first and I cannot do that.

Sorry, but you are out of luck. There is no way to back up your data if you are on 2.3.6 with a locked bootloader and without root.
can anyone tell me whether the below process will make the bootloader locked again.
i have backed up the stock rom version 2.2 using CM Recovery
if i restore to 2.2 and update the same to 2.3.6 will i have my locked bootloader again.
please revert.

I'll say it again: there is a thread in the N1 development forum with Blackrose in the title. You can download what you need in the first post. If you can't find it, I suggest you spend some time searching instead of trying to flash custom bootloaders.

I tried fastboot flash hboot #### method also, but it failed "signature verify" . My aim is to partition system memory to 220. so that i can install full ICS on nexus one.
I see still S-off in my bootloader. Pls help.

[Q] Need help with bootloader/rooting. Tried searching and found no answeres.

I guess I should start by telling you my progress and why I can't just go through the guide on this site.
Before I discovered this site, successfully unlocked my bootloader using the official site. Then I googled around and found a guide to root the phone. I'll try to post the link later, I'm in a hurry and on my phone. The root failed, saying it couldn't copy files or something like that. I tried again with superoneclick, but it always freezes at step five and I have to exit.
Then I found this site. The guide said I have to re-lock my bootloader before continuing, so I follow the directions and do that, only to find out It wants me to unlock it again using the method I did before. Now this is where I need help, and why I need my own thread. When I tried to lock my loader again, there was a line that said FAILED in the cmd. because of this I am unsure if I really am locked or not, and I'm afraid of doing anything else until I know for sure.
How can I find out whether I'm locked or not? I'm sure I can figure out the rest once I know for sure.

Turn your phone off. Pull your battery. Turn on your phone by holding volume down + the power button. You will be booted to the bootloader screen. It will say at the top whether you are "unlocked" or "re-locked". Re-locked = locked.
The reason you need to re-lock your bootloader is because the RUU (stock ROM flash) requires it. The you have to once again unlock the bootloader and then you can root. The RUU also updates the HBOOT for you if you want some custom ICS ROMs.
I am trying to relock my bootloader to flash RUU. When I relock, it gives the security warning, and won't go past bootloader. You have to have the phone on to update the RUU.

Thanks a lot, jerrycoffman45.
Is anyone familiar with this error? I searched but didn't find.
:~/android$ sudo ./fastboot oem lock
... INFOLock successfully...
FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
It appears to do it anyway, as it says relocked on the bootloader screen.

Trying to unlock bootloader-Unknown error

Hi all, a little info first. I have a One bootloader unlocked, rooted, twrp installed and S-OFF. My wife just received a One from an insurance claim on an older phone. I am trying to unlock the bootloader and install twrp and all of that good stuff, but I keep getting unknown error when trying to execute the command. I have tried several times but keep getting the same error. Did AT&T block the unlock process at some point? Here is the basic info on the phone: hboot is 1.44 and the software number is 1.26.502.12. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which command?
Is the bootloader from May or later? If it's May, use revone to S-Off. If later, I'm pretty sure there are already many discussions about it, but you might be able to run an older RUU to downgrade and then revone.
It's highly likely you're not the first person to want to unlock your AT&T phone, the answer is gonna be here somewhere.
Thanks for the reply, the date in the bootloader is May, same as mine. I followed the youtube video from qbking, as I did to my phone. About S-OFF, won't the bootloader still be locked?
Revone includes an unlocking tool, read the OP of the revone thread.
-u is the unlock command I believe

How to gain root with S-Off but bootloader locked

Hi,
My device is currently S-Off. I don't have root anymore and I relocked my bootloader. I'd like to be able to remove the test device message but all the links I found requires to have root or to go back to S-On. I tried using HTC DEV to unlock my bootloader again to flash custom recovery and then to flash supersu.zip but it didn't unlock my bootloader. I also tried to just do a fastboot boot customrecovery.img and also didn't work. Any idea if with S-Off, bootloacker relocked, no root access, I can removed the HTC test device message?
thanks

Check out this thread on unlocking your bootloader without HTCDev. If you are able to do that, then you should be able to flash a custom recovery. You can use the Guru Bootloader Reset tool to remove the tampered sign and I think the test device will go away.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was referring to but I can't run that since I don't have root access. If there could be a temporary way of getting root access with a locked bootloader and s-off, that could probably work to use what's being said in your link
1) Which is the best recovery? C-Mod or TWRP or any other, i mean i want that to support maximum number of stable roms and that is widely used by developers. Can you suggest me a link?
AND
2) For any rooting procedure you first have to S-Off, then unlock the bootloader, root, then install a recovery and flash a ROM..........right?
AND
3) How to be S-Off and rooted and have Locked as a message on the bootloader?

Have you tried Weak Sauce to get root? I thought about it after reading about firewater s-off. This is a temp-root.

if you're still looking for this, root access is available in custom recovery (so no need to mess with the ROM), and with s-off you can flashed a masked firmware using ruu mode:

[Q] Nexus 6 LOCKED - TWRP installed, and running??

I attempted to flash and unroot my Nexus 6 via Wugfresh's tool, and thought it was a success. I hit 'relock' and now the device is bootloader locked with no OS installed.
However, I can connect via fastboot so far, but I am not very good with it. I think I may also be able to push files, but when I attempted to flash SlimLP the device just reset.
TWRP is still present on the device, but I cannot unlock my bootloader without getting a ROM on there... So I am stuck...
I need to mail this phone back in tomorrow for cracked screen, so I am hoping someone can help me. Thank you.

First check here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/how-to-nexus-6-one-beginners-guide-t2948481
Get the sdk tools and once set up, see if you can do adb devices and have the phone show up on the PC, if so, do adb push (name of rom file) then boot to twrp and install. If that doesn't work, check the same page above (since you don't have an OS not sure what would happen) try the unlock instructions for fastboot ( I would wait for someone else to comment before trying this). You might want to message this user http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2872010 rootSU and see if he can give guidance, he has lots of experience.

Try this: Reboot to bootloader, select recovery mode, enter TWRP, mount MTP and push/sideload and flash a flashable image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...tboot-t3066052.

Hey, thanks for the tip.

Sorry my bad, here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/fxz-nexus-6-recovery-flashable-fastboot-t3066052.
Follow the instructions as i posted, place the download rom in the /android-sdk/platform-tools/ folder and boot in bootloader and select recovery, select adb sideload there and type in cmd: adb sideload name.zip.
Unlocked Bootloader
The thread says they are for unlocked bootloader only.
I have TWRP installed, but for some reason at one point my bootloader was relocked.
So now I have No OS to 'enable oem unlock' to unlock my bootloader.
This is my issue.

It worked for other users, but hey if you have a better option try that.
I don't understand, what do you mean it worked for other users? The thread specifically states the bootloader has to be unlocked, and unfortunately I do not have an unlocked bootloader.
So I cannot fix this issue unless I either get a rom to flash with a locked bootloader, or somehow force unlock the bootloader
