Hi all, a little info first. I have a One bootloader unlocked, rooted, twrp installed and S-OFF. My wife just received a One from an insurance claim on an older phone. I am trying to unlock the bootloader and install twrp and all of that good stuff, but I keep getting unknown error when trying to execute the command. I have tried several times but keep getting the same error. Did AT&T block the unlock process at some point? Here is the basic info on the phone: hboot is 1.44 and the software number is 1.26.502.12. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which command?
Is the bootloader from May or later? If it's May, use revone to S-Off. If later, I'm pretty sure there are already many discussions about it, but you might be able to run an older RUU to downgrade and then revone.
It's highly likely you're not the first person to want to unlock your AT&T phone, the answer is gonna be here somewhere.
Thanks for the reply, the date in the bootloader is May, same as mine. I followed the youtube video from qbking, as I did to my phone. About S-OFF, won't the bootloader still be locked?
Revone includes an unlocking tool, read the OP of the revone thread.
-u is the unlock command I believe

I guess I should start by telling you my progress and why I can't just go through the guide on this site.
Before I discovered this site, successfully unlocked my bootloader using the official site. Then I googled around and found a guide to root the phone. I'll try to post the link later, I'm in a hurry and on my phone. The root failed, saying it couldn't copy files or something like that. I tried again with superoneclick, but it always freezes at step five and I have to exit.
Then I found this site. The guide said I have to re-lock my bootloader before continuing, so I follow the directions and do that, only to find out It wants me to unlock it again using the method I did before. Now this is where I need help, and why I need my own thread. When I tried to lock my loader again, there was a line that said FAILED in the cmd. because of this I am unsure if I really am locked or not, and I'm afraid of doing anything else until I know for sure.
How can I find out whether I'm locked or not? I'm sure I can figure out the rest once I know for sure.

Turn your phone off. Pull your battery. Turn on your phone by holding volume down + the power button. You will be booted to the bootloader screen. It will say at the top whether you are "unlocked" or "re-locked". Re-locked = locked.
The reason you need to re-lock your bootloader is because the RUU (stock ROM flash) requires it. The you have to once again unlock the bootloader and then you can root. The RUU also updates the HBOOT for you if you want some custom ICS ROMs.
I am trying to relock my bootloader to flash RUU. When I relock, it gives the security warning, and won't go past bootloader. You have to have the phone on to update the RUU.

Thanks a lot, jerrycoffman45.
Is anyone familiar with this error? I searched but didn't find.
:~/android$ sudo ./fastboot oem lock
... INFOLock successfully...
FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
It appears to do it anyway, as it says relocked on the bootloader screen.

Hi,
Yesterday I went from S-OFF to S-ON, re-locked the bootloader and went back to Stock via RUU to check if we have official 4.2.2 in Thailand yet. Was very happy and excited to see that we have it - downloaded, upgraded.
After that I had my first "You stupid idiot!!" moment when I discovered that I could not use 'revone" anymore - yep, should have read the forum first.
So to root my device, I generated the unlock token at HTCDev, followed the unlock process over and over again, however the device still stays in "relocked" state. The only thing it does is wiping the whole device. Anybody facing similar problems with a possible solution?
I did change CID to 11111111
Thanks in advance for any help.
For some reason - after repeating the unlock procedure another time it suddenly worked.
Now it's finally unlocked..

The OTA updated HBOOT to 1.5something and revone works only with the older version.
Hi guys, I have been trying to restore my device to stock and I think I misread something or made a mistake. Anyhow here is where I am..
Hboot 1.55
Phone is S-off
Bootloader is Relocked
I do not have root and I am at stock recovery.
I do not seem to be able to unlock my bootloader using fastboot oem unlock. When I try to push SU or a Custom recovery I get Failed Remote not allowed.
Can anyone point me to how I should go about getting root or the boot loader unlocked?
Thanks so much!

I was worried about doing this because in another thread somewhere someone suggested this and then someone else jumped all over them saying that this was causing all kinds of issues. While waiting for a reply it dawned on me that I still had my original unlock bin so I unlocked it using the original command. And then was able to complete the steps to un-tamper my device.
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to me this community has been an excellent resource.
Hello
Just purchased an M7 and looking to unlock, root the phone etc. I always used the Hasoon toolkit on my old One X+ but I see the thread here has been locked and downloads are not available.
Is there a toolkit that is similar for ease of use that is currently in use for the M7?
I will start to research as I see things have moved on with HTC since the One X days when getting the bootloader unlocked, htcdev codes and such.
Is it pretty much the same routine as the One X where I need to email HTCdev for a code, then get the bootloader unlocked?
Thank you kindy,

unlock bootloader from htcdev.com
flash twrp recovery 2.6.3.3
boot in recovery mode and exit, you'll be prompted to root the phone, select yes.
complete root with supersu installer now on your phone.
Thanks for that.
I remember it took days or even weeks to get the code from htcdev, is it still the same?

No, it is returned rather quickly.
Going to have a dumb moment, does unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone also unlock the sim?

No, they are separate procedures and to my knowledge unlocking the sim has no effect on the bootloader and vice versa.

Thanks everyone, I'll get a sim unlock code from ebay then go ahead and unlock/root the phone over the weekend. Looking forward to coming back to htc!!
I'm not really clever enough using fastboot commands, are the one click toolkits pretty reliable for unlocking and flashing recovery/root?

I don't use the tool kits using adb and fastboot is pretty easy and you will have more control on what you are trying to accomplish. I would suggest the Minimal ADB & Fastboot Tool for installing the programs. There is a link to guides in the OP and most OPs for custom rom/recovery and root will explain which commands to use.

Unlock the bootloader through HTC's website: http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Flash TWRP and flash SuperSU through that.
S-off I barely remember how to do. All I remember was flashing a 4.4.2 build of CyanogenMod and running Moonshine on it.

What error exactly? You don't need to flash anything to get your token simply do "fastboot oem get_identifier_token". You can find all the instructions at htcdev.com/bootloader.
What is your "fastboot getvar all" ? (Don't share your imei/sn)

you'll need sunshine (which cost you 25$) to root + s-off + unlock bootloader. I consider it worth every penny
I also believe that Kingroot will provide you temp root (will lost root upon rebooting). I havent use it for quite sometime, dont know if they improved it yet but i doubt it

You can't unlock a Verizon phone using htcdev.com. Verizon asked HTC to block bootloader unlock because they don't want their customer to flash stuff on their phones. So like said above you'll need to temp root your phone so you can use sunshine to unlock your bootloader and s-off
I think I have to sell this one and buy something newer so I can play with it... Thanks!
I lost my HTC One M7 (ATT) variant late last year due to a charger issue frying the mainboard. I finally picked up a replacement last night which is the Verizon Model at a good price and it is in brand new condition.
The previous owner updated to the Lollipop 5.02 version which lives on it now. I have tried every method including the latest Sunshine to get it to root or even temp unroot.
SupeSu
Kingroot
Sunshine
HTCDev (before I knew Verizon locked it down so much)
It is the HTC6500LVW.
Is there any method that works at this point?

You need to use kingoroot to get temp root and then use sunshine to unlock and s-off. There is a thread in the verizon general section explaining in details.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Labs
I tried Kingoroot all weekend long and it did not work no matter what I tried.
I was at work today, tried again and it finally did it's thing. I then used Sunshine and got the rest of the job done, and then removed Kingo and put the SuperSu on there and am now happy to report all is good with it.
As for why it did not work in the first several attempts, it is beyond me.
