Just got my Active back from Samsung Warranty Repair for a non working back button. I was AWS and SIM unlocked so I could work on T-Mobile. They removed my AWS unlock and flashed it to 4.3.
I am unable to downgrade it to MF1 to AWS unlock it I get Secure Check Fail in ODIN (Never did before, same computer, same files). All known other methods to AWS unlock end up in error in QPST.
What do I do?? The only firmware that now flashes to the phone is 4.3 ML2, nothing else will flash to it without secure fail. Without AWS unlock the phone is a paperweight.
I just use the unlock code. No need to enable any aws bands. It works out of the box for me on ML2. Using tmobile. 4g lte

Nope, it's not AWS unlocked. TMobile works on some bands that ATT uses depending on your area. Unless you hack the modem, it's not AWS unlocked and you won't get LTE in all areas.

Is anyone on the OTA 4.4.2 and still can use AWS on Tmo? I'm still on MF3 and hesitant on changing because I did the AWS Modem Unlock in order to get LTE to work on Tmo and don't want to lose that. Insight would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't know if it works on 4.4.2, but there is a version that works on 4.3 so try asking in that thread.

I am running on stock firmware on the i537 and I have aws bands, I'm not really sure how but after I requested an unlock code from at&t I popped in my tmobile sim card and got lte...I never did the AWS unlock...
I've researched a ton of threads and I think I have facts straight but would like confirmation from the community. Republic Wireless KitKat 4.4.2
I can:
1. Unlock bootloader with Sunshine.
2. Flash TWRP using mfastboot.
3. Root using TWRP
Continue using RW service
OR I can:
Perform steps 1&2 then
3. Flash the GE Rom
4. Edit to select and enable GSM
5. Install a T-Mo sim
Use T-Mo service (no LTE)
I'm a bit fuzzy still if I would need to carrier unlock somehow in the second scenario.
Has anyone successfully converted an RW phone to GSM? Am I on the right track? What have I over-simplified or overlooked?
It looks right.
Take a look at the first two posts in -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-success-sim-unlock-sprint-xt1056-t2825155 for SIM/Carrier unlocking.

Yes.
I've been SIM unlocked for several months, courtesy of @samwathegreat as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-success-sim-unlock-sprint-xt1056-t2825155
I started with RW Moto X XT1049. Bootloader unlocked via "China Middleman", since Sunshine was not yet available. Flashed TWRP, rooted, installed Carbon ROM. Did SIM unlock as per above. At some point I flashed the full T-Mobile 4.4.4 stock ROM, including baseband., although this was not necessary. Was successfully using T-Mobile for 2-3 months, but I found coverage to be spotty, and in particular many areas where I got only EDGE (since no band IV), so I switched to Cricket, with much better results.
Thanks KidJoe and ejlmd for your responses. Good to know this phone is not forever tied to RW and Sprint, as some on their forums insist. I was especially glad for confirmation the GSM capability is present and useable. That does not seem to be widely known outside this forum.
I face the same issues with T-Mo coverage. I actually just used them as an example. If (or when) I switch it will probably be to an AT&T MVNO.
@ejlmd on what Android version you unlock the bootloader, 4.4.2?

Yes. Now I am on 4.4.4, but bootloader unlocked via China middleman when I was on 4.4.2.
thanks @ejlmd for the information
Just found out that I got accepted to study abroad and want to take my RW Moto X with me rather than buying a new phone. Does Sunshine work with 4.4.4? Would 3G/LTE Data work? (The LTE is 800/1800/2600 Mhz and bands 20/3/7 while 3G is 900/2100 MHz bands 8/1)
Jherbold, did you ever get your plan to work?
Sunshine does NOT work on 4.4.4.
I believe the RW XT1049 is sim LOCKED also. If so, you can't use the SIM from another carrier in the phone.

Yes, it is SIM locked. Some have successfully unlocked it and installed ROMs from other carriers that worked with non-RW SIMs. But not with 4.4.4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54338871&postcount=2
Additionally, per a post I saw from someone @ RW, if you are using the RW ROM and app it is unlikely that the foreign SIM will be able to work even if you were SIM unlocked due to the way the SIP/VOIP implementation works; the SIM is only used to access the LTE data network.

Yes, but if you read that thread, RW users must first flash the Sprint SBF, and that requires the phone to be bootloader unlocked.
Republic Wireless phones are bootloader LOCKED, Moto doesn't give out the unlock code for RW, the China Middleman has been gone for sometime, and Sunshine doesn't work on 4.4.4, so the bootloader can't be unlocked, hence I didn't suggest following that thread to SIM unlock when khabibul35 asked, (but I did in Post #2 of this thread when replying to the OP because there were options to unlock the bootloader back then).

Well, "someone @ RW" might be telling you how it works on THEIR network... They usually wont help you getting THEIR PHONES working on SOMEONE ELSE's service.
Example: Verizon, primarily uses CDMA/EVDO for Voice, SMS/MMS and 3G data, and SIM for LTE. Verizon's Support will admit that their phone is SIM unlocked, and can be used for Global GSM roaming, yet they will tell you it wont work on domestic (USA) carriers. But it does. Many users, including myself, have put non-Verizon GSM SIM in our XT1060, and they work just fine. (in my case I've put T-Mobile and ATT sims in).
Until you SIM unlock the Sprint XT1056, it wont work on non-Sprint GSM providers, hence the excitement in that thread. Many Non-Sprint customers are using XT1056's that have been SIM unlocked now, that Sprint says can't be used on another carriers SIM. If you read that thread, there are those with RW doing the same thing (if they were able to unlock their bootloader, and follow that process)
Alright well I flashed the new COF6 modem on 5.0.2 AOCG and when I make calls it takes a good 30 seconds or more for the call to go through, sometimes it won't even go through. Incoming calls are hit or miss, sometimes it just says the wireless caller you are trying to contact is unavailable.
So I tried to odin back to the AOCG 5.0.2 modem and is passes in Odin but then when the phone boots up it says baseband unknown with a X through the signal bars. Tried to odin the full 5.0.2 firmware and same thing, unknown baseband. I did a full wipe before I tried the full 5.0.2 firmware. Not sure what's going on. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are you shutting the phone down manually and booting into download mode?
Yes, tried both ways, manually and booting DL from TWRP. I Just odined the full 5.1.1 and now I lost domestic sim unlock, what a PITA.

Just remember to never flash a T-Mobile radio, or it will re-lock the sim!
The Metro radios work fine with T-Mobile and AT&T networks.

Yep read that a while ago. Seems like to be about the same if not better signal than the T-Mobile radio. :good:
I have a telus galaxy s4 that is running 4.2.2. I unlocked it using "Regionlock Away". I know it worked because I tried using my brothers Rogers sim and it worked. I follwed the guide to unlock AWS bands, but it did not work. When I flash the AWS file with QPST, it all went well. No error messages. It rebooted my phone but I still can't pick up a Wind Mobile signal. Does anyone know where I went wrong? Would leaving the Wind sim card in while flashing caused this?
I have a fully unlocked Samsung Note 9 (N960U model) that I was using with Ultramobile which uses T-Mobile. I popped in my Simcard and phone rebranded it's self as a T-Mobile phone which is typical. I switched carriers and now with Straight Talk and using a Verizon simcard. Phone is still showing up as T-Mobile when it reboots and even has the T-Mobile bloatware.
I went on Sammobile and flashed the Verizon firmware using Odin and that did nothing as the phone still is showing as T-Mobile. I tried flashing the Unlocked firmware (XAA) and same story, once phone reboots, still shows as being T-Mobile. I even brought it to BestBuy and had them flash the Verizon firmware to no avail....
Is it permanently locked to T-Mobile even though the phone it's self is unlocked? HELP!
When you had the T-Mobile SIM installed, did you check to see if the T-Mobile Device Unlock app was installed & if so, did you run it to check the unlock status?
I know phones don't re-lock themselves, just considering the possibilities.....
One other thing:
When using ODIN to change firmware/etc..... if you didn't before, try changing the firmware w/o the SIM Card installed.
Outside of the above, I'm out of suggestions.
I have a T-Mobile Note 9 & used to test unlocked betas of Android 9 w/o any issues.

Funny you say that, the T mobile Device unlock app did install it's self. It tells me the device is network locked (Obviously isn't since it was originally an AT&T phone) and when I click continue, the server is not responding and that would be expected since this isn't even a Tmobile branded phone! My issue is Some of the APN settings on Verizon are different than TMobile and I can't get VolLTE. Any ideas...?
Interesting, never tried Odin without Sim card...When I did flash the unlocked and Verizon firmware and phone rebooted, the phone recognized there was a different carrier sim and rebooted (It did this when I first unlocked it from AT&T and went to Tmobile) but instead of re-branding or switching to a Verizon phone, it just reboots and still stuck with T-Mobile firmware. I want to be clear also, phone works fine with the exception of MMS and VolLTE which I believe I would get back once I switch to a Verizon firmware
I know this doesn't solve the SIM Unlock issue, but, have you manually changed the APN for the SIM Card you're using?

I did, I changed it to Straight Talk Verizon APNs settings. I just don't know how T-Mobile can lock my phone....
Some of the MNVO's Sim cards don't have all the data as the man brand in my experience I would get a Verizon Sim I've had the same problem use it to do the carrier change then install your regular Sim
[/COLOR]I have a T-mobile sim card in my Unlocked Verizon note 9 and it says its locked as well but it isn't. Just change the sim card and it will work just fine. If there is tmobile software left on it you will may have to flash your firmware to get rid of it. If there is T mobile software left you will have to flash your firmware to get rid of it.
My Verizon branded Note 9 is SM N960U. How is yours unlocked?
