accidentally installed a jellybean copy of dynamic instead of the kit kat version.Safe strap is the kit kat version. Now my stock slot is showing 0 space for system and I cant seem to straighten this mess out. Anyone have any help they can give?
no one has any ideas how to fix this?
Did you install the JB version in a slot? Or is it in the stock slot? Does the rom boot? What happens if you try to install something to the stock slot?

I was still able to boot the rom, so I rebooted to stock recovery from there. There's usually a combination (holding home/power/volume) while booting but I haven't done it yet on this phone. Lemme look around/test on my phone.

Has anyone else experienced this? All I did was wipe like the rim thread told me to do. Don't understand how and why this happened.

If you want to go back to stock ROM then you will need to download the stock firmware from sammobile and flash with odin.
If you want it completely wiped then it's a good idea to format internal SD card aswell

Hi...noob question...wouldn't formatting internal SD card remove CWM and everything else (JB) as well?
If you want to be 100% sure do the restore in odin first and when running stock rom just go to settings and wipe sd card.. no worrys.

Thanks for your reply...I don't know very much about these android devices so can I ask some more noob questions?
1. Does JB exists on a separate partition so when you do a format, even from your pc, the formatting doesn't affect JB?
2. Would wiping / formatting the sd card get rid of every single file / directory not required by JB (including games directories n files etc)? Because this is what I want...brand spanking clean.

using mobile odin by chain fire more safety for flashing
use cwm same safety way too
use odin in pc more dangerous IF you dont have many good usb connections or samsung driver inside your pc
dont forget backup your efs ,this very important from begining you have s3
There is a function called "Firmware Upgrade And Initialization" in your Samsung KIES if you are using the newest version. It will help you to download the newest firmware from the KIES server. You don't have to boot your device until you are told to start the download mode by the Samsung KIES.
This has the potential to become a major issue.
I figured instead of two separate threads, the discussion can be consolidated here.
Existing threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069823
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071206
This has happened to 3 people so far. I know there are many users who have successfully updated to ICS via Odin, but if more and more people have touchscreen issues I am going to take the thread down.
Some information to provide:
Was KIES used?
Version of Odin used?
What ROM was it being flashed from
What ICS ROM was loaded (course from sammobile or hotfile, etc.)
What Recovery was used?
Also please run a logcat through ADB to see if any errors occur during boot when the touchscreen does not work.
Hopefully someone like dan-htc or nrvate has some knowledge to share as well.
Thanks Orlando for putting this all in one place.
I'm one of the affected users.
Was KIES used? Yes. I used Kies for the initial update which completed successfully. TS worked before, not after.
Version of Odin used? I have tried at least 10 times after the initial Kies update with Odin 1.85. Each time completeing without error but TS still does not work
What ROM was it being flashed from? All I know is that I was on the stock ROM from when I bought the device Dec12 from AT&T. 3.2?
What ICS ROM was loaded (course from sammobile or hotfile, etc.) Sammobile downloads which link to hotfile. I have tried each (there are only 2) at least 5 times
What Recovery was used? I use the stock recovery, nothing non-stock has been done to my device.
Also please run a logcat through ADB to see if any errors occur during boot when the touchscreen does not work. I am not familiar with how to do this but if you post some steps I will do it tonight and post results, no problem.
Ill also add that after it boots up I am able to plug it into my laptop and see it in both Kies and my computer. I can drop files onto the sdcard.
I don't understand how a new Rom can break the touchscreen and reverting back doesn't fix it.

it just doesn't make sense to me. it has to be a software issue and not a hardware issue
I'm one of the affected users.
Was KIES used? No. Kies didn't detect my tab initially, Then used Odin; TS worked before, not after.
Version of Odin used? Version 1.85
What ROM was it being flashed from? AT&T Stock 3.2
What ICS ROM was loaded (course from sammobile or hotfile, etc.) Sammobile downloads which link to hotfile. I have tried each (there are only 2) as well as the "Default (XXX)" Carrier. Tried afterwards CM10 and AOKP unofficial but both showed the samsung boot, then a blank black screen with backlight on
What Recovery was used? None for the intial load, then Flash CWM 5.5, TWRP also had no Touch working, then back to stock
Also please run a logcat through ADB to see if any errors occur during boot when the touchscreen does not work. Will do and post back in here later tonight hopefully
My device is still not detcted Via Kies but i can read and write now normally to the SDCard via cable from Windows and Ubuntu

yes, all was green for flashing Stock. flashed CWM 5.5 using ODIN, then moved files for CM10, AOKP and GAPPS to sdcard, and flashed them using CWM
Even tried a custom kernel from the forums here using CWM.
Finally went back to stock HC Rom, but no updates so far.
And both ROMs didn't really complete a boot !

it may be worth a try to format the entire tablet, and then flashing a rom. that means formatting everything in CWM.

Maybe try flashing with a newer version of odin. I have been using odin 3.07 successfully without issue since I got this tab. May want to see if flashing with a more recent version actually successfully flashes correctly. If kernel doesnt flash correctly with odin then it could affect the way drivers are handled in all roms following.
Yesterday, Verizon approved Jelly Bean for the DROID 4 as build 98.72.18, but as is typical, Motorola sent the first wave of updates out to members of their feedback network (soak testers) this morning. And since that happened, the file has been pulled and made available to everyone with the device.
We have instructions for you below, so if you do not feel like waiting for the update to be pushed to your device, feel free to jump below.
The official changelog can be found here. here
Instructions:
*These are the instructions from the RAZR HD update, but they should work for the DROID 4 as well.
*You have to be running the official Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.4) update of build 6.16.217. You also have to be completely stock.
1. Download the update file here: here
2. Drop that file on your SD card, not internal storage.
3. Turn phone off, and reboot into recovery.
*Hold both Volume Up and Down along with Power until you see the boot menu. Use Volume Down to hover over “Recovery.” Press Volume Up to select it.
*Once you see the Android and Exclamation point, press both Volume Up and Down at the same time.
4. Select “apply update from external storage.”
*Use Volume keys to highlight, Power button to select.
5. Then select the file you downloaded from above. It should already be on your SD card.
6. Watch as the update applies.
7. Once finished, choose the “reboot” option and enjoy!
DON'T FORGET TO SAY THANKS!

EDIT: OK I have to flash it completely stock with RSDlite and clean package, just downloading it..

Like rruleford said the only way to totally wipe/flash the entire phone would be to wait for the xml fastboot files. What you COULD try is placing the JB OTA update on your external sd card, then booting into stock recovery, wiping data and cache, and then re-flashing the update manually. It should be able to flash over top of itself just fine. Not sure if it would fix anything but might be worth a shot.

Without y'all, I would of sold this phone.
KNOWN ISSUES:
No Aroma installer support. This is due to the stock Note 3 kernel framebuffer. To build a recovery which worked, it needed QCOM patches. So will Aroma.
If you try a .zip file with an Aroma installer, it will most likely just hang.
If you're stock ROM is modified then the "Reboot Recovery" function from inside Safestrap APK may / may not work.
Right now flashing / booting ROMs on rom-slots is broken. I'm debugging best I can.
EXFAT support seems broken right now (64gb SD cards)
Here is how we are using it now, but please read and follow instructions.

I installed the theme and went to select the slot again but its already selected so I just wiped cache and dalvik cache.

Still no luck for me tried a few times. Not that it matters but I've tried starting SS from both touch wiz and nova launcher. SS says failed both times.

So I have never posted here I just lurk. But I wanted to post this info up and as I get more info and testing done I'll update. Going to try and flash a couple roms this evening but here is where I am so far. If someone could post this in the dev thread that would be awesome. Post 1 for me.

You have to turn the phone off or just regular reboot and then the option will pop up to boot in recovery. This will happen if you clicked "install recovery" inside the SS apk.

Once installed, open up the Safestrap application as you would any other app.
Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
I installed SS as soon as it went up and everything has gone smoothly. It's worth mentioning that I used the original De La Vega root and never updated because I had zero problems afterwards. I never tried any of the dirty workarounds to flashing roms. I rebooted into recovery from the app (flawlessly) and made a backup. Then decided to g3t ballsy and install galaxyman's theme while wiping caches. It only appeared to partially work. Then I remembered that I had partially themed my phone using Wanam/X-Blast. I turned those off and viola! My phone looks ultraslick.

My only question now is:
Can we flash T-Mobile roms and swap modems or are there other important differences? I'd really like to just hijack their dev section.

Also SS is meant to be a failsafe recovery, meaning your active slot should be your current setup. You should not flash anything to your stock rom slot unless your comfortable. If you want to flash a rom like Encore that's in the development section , create a new rom slot and flash to it; Then if **** hits the fan you always have your stock rom to switch back to.

I started with Mj5....Did the install ROM without recovery a couple of times.
Did the restore Mj5 Thread a bunch.
Before I installed Safestrap, I restored back to stock rooted and installed SS.
Can't flash themes yet.
Maybe I should start all over again but this time restore twice and go to system settings/back up factory reset.
The last time i did the factory reset option after a restore, the phone was perfect.
Maybe I will just do that and start over...Will report back.
Hey guys, I've held off from any exploits thus far including root. However, I am now interested in using safestrap. I am on MJ5, is my only option for root kingo?

I wonder if you can try this. It worked for me but only after I got into a bootloop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
At the end of all steps, the last step is an easy "put files here" and it rooted. (after a reboot twice)
Just follow instructions
When I reboot and the safestrap screen comes up where I can choose to enter recovery or enter regular system. In red it says safestrap disabled. Is this typical?
I know safestrap is installed and running as I created a backup did a factory reset then then did a back up from the recovery I created.

How do I uninstall safestrap and go back to stock if I did not backup?
Sent from my SM-N900A using Tapatalk
To uninstall Safestrap, go into the Safestrap app, click uninstall recovery, then you can uninstall the Safestrap app.

Right...removing SS with not remove root from your rom. .SS is the recovery. Are you trying to unroot your phone?
No I would like to back to stock rom altogether I don't like how I lost 30gb of space buy using safestrap
Sent from my SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Safestrap does not do that... The only way to do that is to create all the ROM slots.
If you are flashing ROMs the right way, (in the stock slot) you are taking up less space than the stock ROM.
Go the the general section if you want to return to stock. Find the NC2 restore thread.
I used stock rom slot and it is showing 32 total space when I have 64gb
Sent from my SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Because most people have the 32gb model. It is what the ROMs are built from. It will say you lost 30, but I promise you didn't.
Oh so it's a false positive then

Did you open the safe strap app and click remove recovery? If not reinstall the app, click remove recovery, then uninstall the app.
i thought i did that when i re flashed the stock Rom.... would i need to re-root?
