close all apps - Moto X Q&A

how to install framework for close all apps like cyanogen??
edit: i have root on oficial rom 4.4.2 moto x

Android is meant to run with most the ram used up by apps. Closing apps you use a lot, or the system uses will hurt your battery, not help it. This also is what makes opening apps smooth and quick.
That said....if you're rooted, just use Greenify. It can hibernate any user apps you wish. So after use them, they will automatically be hibernated shortly after. I use it on every app I don't use often, especially games. I don't hibernate apps I use a lot throughout the day.

Gemini App Manager

I just downloaded this app today and while I normally dislike task killers this one is differant. While you can kill apps it has another more valueable feature.
If you find apps always running in the background sucking you battery , Gemini makes it easy to figure out why. You can choose a running app or any app/service on your phone, and configure autorun.
When you choose configure autorun on an app or service, Gemini will tell you all of the things that will start the app to autorun. Then it allows you to disable any or all the autorun features for that app. this is cool because you can now choose when a said app or service autoruns.

Just wanted to also add that there are obviously some services you don't want to **** with. As stopping them from auto running could effect the stability of your phone but really most installed apps should be safe to stop auto run. You will still be able to run the apps, but they won't be starting themselves.

wow, that's better than freezing them nice find!!!
A great find but when I went to download it it was marked as incompatible. I am running Slim so would dpi be the issue? I do have the modded market.

I had the same issue with slim. While I kind of liked the resolution many of the apps I use daily didn't. So I just went back to cm9. So while I'm not sure, it may very well be the resolution...

Disabling Apps in ICS

I found this in the "ICS: What's Different and New" PDF file on the HTC web site:
"You can now disable an app if you no longer want it (but are unable to uninstall it). Disabling an app removes it from All Apps and prevents it from launching. To disable an app, go to Settings > Apps > All and scroll down to the app. You will see the Disable option. Note: If you do not see a Disable option, it means that the app can either be uninstalled or is core functionality and cannot be disabled."
I have a bunch of apps that I don't use still starting up (and re-starting after I use Advanced Task Killer to stop them), and taking a lot of memory. I'm going to see if this helps.
If anything this was a very big plus to me. I don't intend on installing any 3rd party ROMs until after the warranty period and this was a huge issue for me. Seems to work very well.

Well there's your problem. You're still using a non-root task killer. That's gonna hurt you more than help. Get rid of it. If you're rooted, use Autokiller Memory Optimizer if you truly run that tight on RAM. Otherwise, let the OS's improved handling of apps and services take care of it.

Thanks for the feedback. Your last comment may be the best for now. As it turned out, I couldn't find many apps I wanted to stop that had the feature to disable. Most only allowed a force close or uninstall. I don't want to uninstall them. I just don't want them running unless I start them. Actually, I think this is partly a developer issue. Everyone thinks that their software always needs to be running in the background and polling. Not if I use it once a week -- or less.
One very nice feature of the new update is that the Carrier iQ app has been removed.

Now, let's see if we can get them to listen to us again and return the voice dialer.

[Q] High RAM usage

I wiped my Note the other day and installed the XXLSA Jellybean leak on it, and noticed even before installing any apps, my RAM usage hovers at
around 600MB. After installing my apps and using the task killer to kill background processes, I'm still at around 650MB. Is this normal?
Is there a list or something floating around of apps and services safe to freeze using Titanium? I know the saying around here is free RAM is wasted RAM, but I'd actually like to assign more RAM to Limbo PC Emulator.
Somewhere in the forum is exactly such a list. I just almost have any clue where.
Maybe you can find it in Dr.Ketans Toolbox Thread or a Sticky or a Search with "safe to remove" as term.

Uninstall the bloatware (list of apps that can be removed), then use Autorun Manager (or similar app) to stop the processes starting during boot.

That's the list I was after! Thanks!

How does multitasking really work in Lollipop?

Previously until 4.4 kitkat we had a list of "opened apps" / multitasking list, but now in Lollipop we have a recent apps list , and even if you reboot the device the apps are kept on that list, also there's no clear all button, so it kinda feels like google wants us to let apps be in that in list all the time, they're not really running all the time and are not draining the battery?
So how does multitasking works now? Is it like IOS 8 that the apps are "frozen" until you reopen them? I read that it's better if you keep the apps in there and don't close them because then android is able to open them faster when you want to use them again, but too me it feels kinda cluttered if I have so many "cards" in that list and kinda defeats the purpose of having a dedicated multitasking button if I have to keep looking for the tab of the app I want to use , what I'm doing right now is closing the tabs/cards of the apps I don't use that much but I still have a LOT of cards on that list
What's your take on this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966571 Good explanation of how RAM in Android works in the OP of this thread.
If you don't like the clutter of how recents are handled by stock, I would suggest checking out Recently by Chainfire, he just released it on the Play Store. If you want more explanation on that I believe @Andromjb posted a video to his YouTube channel to show how it works.

But that post is from 2012 and the last reply was from 2014 , does it still apply for lollipop?

Yes that post explains how Android was designed to work at its core and how that compares to a traditional operating system like Windows. So that is still the principle but now we have a better way to execute our runtime, which is ART. Here's a good explanation of how ART compiles https://source.android.com/devices/tech/dalvik/index.html

Greenify, App Manager Disable, Titanium Backup Freeze

Hi All,
Being on Note 4 and Note Edge had made me forgot things I can do being rooted. To my understanding, the default application manager can disable apps, and titanium backup can go beyond that list from the default application manager. I have also got Greenify. Would anyone care to share what they have disabled/froze in TB and also what they have added on the Greenify list? Thanks in advance!
I basically greenify everything except apps that I want running in the background (desired notifications, watch apps etc). If something doesn't work right, just ungreenify it. The more the better I always say.
I don't have a list for freezing apps, but right off the bat you want to freeze sdm.apk so you don't get updates. I freeze knox and ITIgnite as well. Then of course i remove any games/verizon/Amazon/google play software i dont want.
