I'm thinking of picking up a Moto X from Fido to use on my existing Bell account. I have an inkling of what's involved:
1) unlock Moto X from 3rd party service (but does the phone need to have a Fido SIM or my Bell SIM installed first)?
2) use phone as normal (or are there any special settings I need to do first)?
Any other issues?
I got the phone. Bought a nano sim from telus. Went home, bought a sim unlock code. Got the code in a few hours, put in the telus sim....entered the code when prompted.....then went to telus site and activated the sim. Done.
Its on bell now too, since I gave it to my wife.
Sent from my N5, N7, Moto X, G Tab 3 or S2.....
That's great, does it work on LTE as well?
Yup...on telus and bell.

Picked one up from Fido with their recent price reduction... bought it outright without having to sign up for anything.
Works great on Bell!

cellunlocker [.net] costs $8 usd and it's what we're all using. I personally unlocked two Rogers Moto X using it, and others on this forum said the same thing. There's already a thread for unlocking, read that one instead.

My curiosity is, if you unlock the AT&T version, will it work on T-Mobile's LTE network as well?
It should. I've used Xperia with no issues on TMo. Does cellunlocker work realiably for AT&T version?
I have heard about Roger's X being unlocked. But so far it seems nobody can confirm that AT&T moto maker ones can be unlocked. Or am I totally out off the loop?
Finally! With Motomaker's AT&T off-contract device available for purchase now, I understand that the SIM can be unlocked for use on non-AT&T networks. Does that mean it can even be used internationally? European and Asian networks?

I used cellunlocker to unlock my AT&T Moto X. Worked without any problems. Had unlock code in about an hour after placing order. Once unlocked, the Moto X works perfectly on TMO LTE network.

I haven't done it myself, but pudgewack was pretty explicit as to cellunlocker's speed:

Keep in mind that the AT&T version lacks the 1700 UMTS band, which means that if you're in an area where TMobile hasn't reframed (to use the 1900 band) you won't have 3G coverage. Basically you'll be switching between LTE and 2G in those areas, and considering TMo's LTE coverage that could be a problem. Get the TMo version unless you plan to travel to/live in Puerto Rico or Chile (according to Wikipedia...).

Cellunlocker.net wants $24 for Tmobile Moto X. Unlockunit.com just unlocked mine for $14 in under an hour.

What are you talking about? T-Mobile doesn't offer ANY Motorola phones, let alone Moto X.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Check their stores or the website. You can get a non-carrier branded unlocked phone directly from Google for $400-450 depending on the config.
Anybody knows if there is a way to unlock Moto X for free?http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Thanks.
Please help me,i bought this sprint motorola moto x at ebay, but when i put a sim in it it says sim invalid,i'm outside of us,called sprint but they say device need to have and account active,it came with a sim card, but apparently it's suspended, don't know what to do,please please help me.
Return the phone, it is worthless.
How was the eBay sellers feedback? Kinda sounds like you got scammed. Unless they stated all that in the item description?

If he didn't say anything upfront....you can contact eBay if he won't refund you. They may force him to refund you. Also...negative feedback left on eBay can definitely tarnish his reputation there. But I wouldn't do that until you try to work it out with him.
Again tho...if he stated it had a bad imei ...then you're plain out of luck.

We need a sticky that says not to buy a Sprint Moto X for anything other then using it with Sprint. They are different then pretty much all other Moto X's, there are no unlock codes for them.
Yeah...that's ridiculous. LOL
So....for xda people for sure....don't buy sprint, at&t or Verizon. (Regular model)

Sprint use CDMA technology. Send it back and get a refund. You need to use a GSM phone, buy the T-Mobile / unlocked model of the Moto X.
Had you contact ebay yet? My case is same with you. Now i use it as a pad... just waiting one day someone unlock it successfully...

For at&t I was referring to not being able to unlock the bootloader. Verizon too. And if sprint can't be sim unlocked, or work on gsm carriers .....I'd stay away from those 3.

Hello
I want to buy verizon moto x 2014 in usa and use it in europe. Does it sim locked? Is there needed any manipulation to switch career from Verizon to another?
Thanks
I'm pretty sure the Verizon one is SIM locked. They might sell you an unlocked one, or let you unlock early. You are better off getting a European model motomaker phone.

Actually the Verizon Moto X is unlocked out of the box, as are all Verizon 4G LTE phones. I have bought at least 4 or 5 and used them on T-Mobile just to test. Even the iPhones are. One slight perk in the tyranny of Verizon

Currently have an unlocked MotoG, have MotoX coming soon. On the TMobile $30 prepaid plan if it matters.
Is it simply a matter of moving the sim to the X and it will work automatically or do I have to call and go through some shenanigans with TMobile?
Curious, may want to use the G for work then the X for home life.

If by any chance you forget, the G uses Micro-SIM while the X requires Nano-SIM.

Well it will work if you cut it down. But I'd advise against it, cause I did that and now the sim is stuck since the tray won't eject.
I got mine out via two safety pins, one to put in the hole and one to pry it open.
