I often work in a building where my phone ends up roaming, which is fine with me, except that I keep getting the stupid data roaming warning. I can't seem to disable it, because the options are check and greyed out in the data roaming guard menu.

Change the Network type back to "LTE/CDMA" from "Automatic".
EDIT: After checking, I can't find any combination of options that disables these options.
That's strange that those are grayed out like that. Even with them unchecked I still get the pop-up on my phone though.

Has anyone found a way to disable the guard options?
Roaming guard fix
Hello.
I am not a developer but I have a solution to roaming guards if you have root. I am a very tech savvy person and usually modify all my phone's on my on.
Here we go and I am not responsible for anything that could go wrong. Don't worry this is fairly simple computer programming.
1. Make sure you have root.
2. Download SQLite editor from the play store.
3. Open SQLite editor and go to the root of your phone.
4. Open data/data/com.android.providers.settings
5. Open Setting.db and select secure.
6. Scroll down to line 117 and highlight data_roaming_guards_blocked and hit the pencil to edit.
7. Change wording to data_roaming_guards_allowed and save.
8. Scroll to line 122 and highlight voice_roaming_guard_blocked and hit pencil to edit.
9. Change wording to voice_roaming_guard_allowed and save.
10. There is no need to reboot just go directly to settings, mobile data and roaming guards. You should be able to select and deselect.
I hope this works for you and if it does let's put it out there. Lots of people have this problem and it took me several days to figure this out

I am rooted, so I paid for the SQLite application and tried your suggestion. My lines numbers were slightly different, but I found the entries and made the modifications. It allowed me to disable the options! I am not currently in a roaming area, as I was over the weekend, so I cannot currently ensure it disables the prompts. However, the options are now clickable...and now unchecked for me! Thank you!
Thanks
Thanks for the reply. Let me know if you have any problems.

I also found out you can leave the name the same "_blocked", and then you only have to delete the value "domestic,international" from both entries. You have to restart the phone, but then that tells the system there is nothing to block. I have since went back and left the name entries as they were at default, but removed the values so they are blank.
Again, I appreciate your post as it was extremely helpful!

Thanks
Roaming guard fix
See Roaming guard fix at the bottom of page 1.
I have the same issue as above, the options are greyed out. I have pulled the settings.db file, but the lines mentioned above are not present. This is Lollipop 5.1.1 on Boost Mobile. I'm attaching the settings.db file which has been exported to csv then converted to xls for attachment purposes (csv attachments aren't allowed?). I would be grateful for any help deciphering this to determine which lines to edit or possibly just flipping the 1/0 switch to enable the options to turn roaming guard on/off. Thanks.
Anyone with experience with these databases? Thanks.
Ok, I can't recommend trying to edit the database on Boost Mobile's LG G Stylo Lollipop 5.1.1. At least not with asqlite manager. I did earlier today, I edited line 124 rguard_domestic_data which was set to 1 or on. I changed it to 0 or off, the phone immediately rebooted and went into a boot loop. I'm not sure if the app changed the permissions of the database or if that particular option just shouldn't be changed, but I had to factory reset and set everything back up from scratch. I was able to get to recovery where I cleared cache, then wiped data and reset. The phone is operational now and I did not have to root it again, but it was quite a pain setting everything back up again as I had quite a few customizations. Perhaps there's a better app for the job or a way to edit and restore the original permissions?

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to make a quick guide on how to change the UAString.
This of course will enable you to default to the desktop view over the mobile view like i know you all want to.
Step 1.
Open up the browser, type into the URL bar "about:debug" and press enter.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note:
After entering about:debug the URL will default back to the URL of the page you are on but there are now extra options available to use in the menu.
Step 2.
Now open up the menu in the top right and click on settings.
Step 3.
Now you are in the settings menu head on down to debug and then click on UAString.
Step 4.
Here is the list of available UAStrings I personally use desktop(it will make all websites think you are on a desktop computer so no more mobile website by defualt)
Step 5.
Now to get out of debug mode, back out of the settings menu and enter "about:debug" in the URL bar and press enter.
Step 6.
Now to quickly check to make sure you have correctly exited debug just click on the menu icon and make sure you have the normal control set again.
Now head out into the interwebz and enjoy not defaulting to mobile sites
Nicely done with the Screens! +1
This post should be added to the a complete guide when its made
Thank You!!! This was driving me NUTS!!
You Da Man!!
Thanks mate. Does this setting stick across sessions or does it reset back to normal when you exit? Will try it when I get home.
I read somewhere that the Xoom needed a hacked framework to make the change permanent.

Seems to stick. I closed the browser in the settings==>applications menu and it was still in desktop mode. Ill try and find the details about the Xoom issue and see ifit is reproducable on the tab.
works for me also thanks alot
thanks for the instructions
but unfortunately this doesn't work reliable. some websites still detect the device as a non-desktop device, e.g. www.bild.de, and forward to their respective mobile-sites. don't know why.
but for the most of the sites, it works perfectly.
How did you get the "Labs" options in your browser settings? I can't seem to have it on mine.
For me the debug mode doesn't persist between sessions. The UA change is saved, but I have to go into debug mode every time the browser is started. So I set my homepage to about:debug and have to press enter on the address bar each session.
Tried this on Engadget and Facebook.
"interesting" thing: with about:debug i set my uastring to froyo-n1 (or whatever the last entry is called), then the browser crashed. now everytime i enter about:debug, the browser crashes immedialtely. cannot revert this setting anymore. already did a reboot - no success. don't wanna do a factory reset.
do you have any hints on this?
Try clearing data and cache from settings==>applications==>MANAGE APPLICATIONS menu.

I honestly feel we should start email campaigns to the bigger websites to get them to identify this Android version as desktop to save us from this constant issue.
Ever since android was flash enabled , and many sites went over to HTML for the douchepad I see no reason to continue to I.D Android for teeny mobile versions.
It SHOULD always be an option in reverse. As in you can opt in to mobile browsing.
Oh and USatring never seems to stick for too long.
Yer try ipad uastring it seems to override a lot of issues, also dolphin and opera do uastring a lot better
Also because of RIM there is still a huge requirement for mobile sites to be defaulted as it's a b*tch to opt into mobile view on such tiny screens.
And with ice cream sandwich we will loss out again on the same privileges the ipad is getting
But the real simple fix would for web devs to make m.domain.region to be mobile and domain.region to be full content
Anyway we don't live in a perfect world, and if we did XDA would be a little pointless. But I love finding fixs more then i hate finding problems

Labs should be there regardless of whether debug is on or off.
Sorry i cannot be more help would test to see what environments it does not appear in but sending my 10.1v back today, got sick of the sluggish performance and screen bleeding.

I just realized that I was on the wrong section. I have the newer 10.1 which doesn't seem to have Labs
I recently picked up Tasker, and so am trying to figure my way around how to use it for my in-car install. However, I can't seem to figure out, what is probably the most important piece, getting the screen to switch off / airplane mode to switch on when I remove power. I have installed Secure Settings plug in, but everything I have tried so far to get the screen to switch off has failed. I am sure I am missing something simple here.
Also, is there a way to have Tasker kill all open apps, instead of having to individually list apps?
Thanks.
Edit: Should have put this in the apps section.
Edit Again: Figured out the screen switching off, System Lock did the trick. For some reason it is not killing open apps though when the power is removed.
New profile>name it whatever>State Context>Hardware>Usb Plugged>Invert
New task>name it whatever>hit the "+" button>app>kill app>specifiy app (you'll have to do this for every single app).
alternatively, you could do:
new task>name it whatever>hit the "+" button>script>run shell> type a command that kills all apps, and check "use root". i dont know what command can be used to kill all apps though, lol, so...

Exit task. And what you want is Display->Lock to switch off the screen. As for Airplane mode, I believe that does require Secure Settings to toggle, but that should be pretty easy. Assuming you're rooted and the Secure Settings Helper is installed (see its app) directly.

This is dumb. That's all I'm going to say about this subject.
Thanks for the replies, I am rooted and do have Secure Settings installed, I will have to look into Airplane mode some more as I don't see it listed under the Secure Settings addon.
Is there a good guide anywhere for Tasker? I tried via their site, but most of the links were dead. When I connect power to the Nexus, Bluetooth comes on, but I also want it to use my phone for internet access (Settings -> Bluetooth - Paired Devices - Use for internet access). It seems like everytime Bluetooth goes off, that box becomes unchecked, and currently I hvae to manually go in and check it again. I am guessing I need a script to do that, but I have no clue how to write a script to do so, and can't find much by the way of help / tutorials (I admit though, I am at work, and have not spent a huge amount of time searching).

Tasker google groups is the place to go.
Make 2 profiles, 1 for power on 1 for power off. Open secure setting,the option is there to install helper.Then when you set new task select plugins,then secure setting that will appear now that helper is installed.Airplane mode is there.As for screen on and off, set screen off 23 hours 59 mins under power on profile , set screen off 7secs(minimum) under power off.
The other 2 profiles are timed according to daylight so the brightness decreases at night increases in the day.I wouldnt use the kill app function it doesnt play nicely and causes some crashing issues at shutdown thats why mine are disabled.

Yeah, that's what I figured after about an hour of searching around for a solution. Thanks for the confirmation though. I'd rather keep Samsung Pay if it comes down to it, but it's not like I even have a choice at this point with no root in sight at the moment...

No need to install an app to do this unless you just like tapping. Once you're rooted, you can edit your /system/csc/feature.xml file. (I use ES File Explorer -- you have to enable its root functionality after installing. Copied the file out to PC to do the edit using a good editor -- especially NOT Windows Notepad because it will mangle the CR/LF stuff -- then push the file back across. Make a backup of the original .xml file first!!!
Find this line and set the value in between the XML tags to be EMPTY (nothing there), like this:
Code:
<CscFeature_Wifi_ConfigWifiNotificationStyle></CscFeature_Wifi_ConfigWifiNotificationStyle>
Confirmed with my new AT&T S6 a few minutes ago -- "Wi-Fi Connected" banner is history.

You can do this by modifying the build.prop, need root, if you use vzw you will only get the att on the lock screen, but your lock screen audible notifications no longer work and the auto lock screen is disabled, if you use tmobile you will get sfinder and quick connect. ATT is not different than euc, both behave the same. your best bet is using vzw but keep in mind what I listed above. Also you can use LTE icons if you want by changing a line in feature.xml

That hides it on the home screen and apps but not on the lock screen. Can I leave it blank to do that?
Without xposed there is no way to fully customize it the way you want the currently there is only a beta version for arm64 which is boot looping and not ready for prime time. I don't think it will matter if you leave it blank unfortunately, I have not tried that but you are welcome to give it a shot and report back.

the reviews on that app aren't very good, I've watched a couple of Note 5 tips and tricks youtube videos and it seems to be baked in on some devices. I think both videos used AT&T phones, so maybe that's it?
I think it's pretty good and easyu to use. Just install the app and login into Google account. If you lose your phone, login to your Google account and type find my phone. That's all. Simple.

Find my Mobile's pretty cool and I used it on my international devices for years when there was no ADM. Surprisingly, AT&T didn't maim it. It's easy to use and manage across multiple devices and is both fast and accurate even on "GPS only." Here's what it can do.

It very well might be. A few years ago Rogers had their own location system just like findmymobile, they did take out the native location system on their phone until they decided to discontinue their service and put the option back in.

tried cerberus? pretty good stuff there also
I've had Cerberus for years. But its very easy to get around if you know what it is and what it does. I always used it in tandem with Samsung's security. Samsung has the option to render the power button useless...you cannot turn off the phone unless you remove battery or let the phone drain. Battery removal wise, can't do it with my last 2 phones (s6 and note 5), so if somebody stole my phone I could have easily locked it and used Cerberus to spy on the thief and had a few hours to find him. Now, if anybody steals my phone all he has to do is vol down + home + power until phone turns off and flash with odin, then wipe in recovery. At least with reactivation lock my phone would have been a paper weight

I have the SM-N9600 model on TMO, running 8.1, and not rooted.
I tapped the Build Number repeatedly to turn on Developer Mode, and I accessed it the first time, but now it's not showing up anyplace. Also, when I try to redo it again, a little pop up says it's already been enabled.
Anyone have any ideas about this?

On the US Carrier version (SM-N960U), it's the very last settings section.
Guessing you've already scrolled down/looked around/etc...... just giving you where it's at on another model variant for reference.
Can you get to Developer Options by using the search function within the settings section?

Nope, it doesn't show up using search either.
And I looked around there at the bottom. Even did a reboot. Nothing shows up.

i was having the same issue, you tap the build number 7 times it says developer mode enabled. But when you scroll down, it's not there! What you need to do once developer mode enabled, you need to hit home button, close all tabs! Then go back into settings it will be the very last tab at the bottom!! I think it’s a bug!

Do you know of a way to pull it up? I mean, is there a way to get it to show up after you've enabled it, but didn't follow the steps you said? Like I said, mine says it's already enabled. I just tried to redo do it using your example, but with no success.

Have you tried cleaning you cache ? Try that enable dev mode, close all tabs, then clear memory. Then launch settings to see if you can see dev mode!

Just tried it, but still no luck. Thing is, it still says developer mode is already enabled when I tap the Build Number. I still tapped it 7 times just to make sure. I rebooted again too.

Perhaps use a shortcut maker or, use the one built-in to Nova Launcher.

Boot into recovery and wipe the cache partition then try! i can’t think of anything else or use other launchers as @KOLIOSIS has suggested!

I use Nova Prime already. How would I use it to make a shortcut?

Place a Nova Activities widget on your desktop, then, take a look around in the Settings section of the widget, see if there's something for Developer Options.

I forgot all about that each section is broken down into subsections. Gonna give it a shot.

Glad you were able to access it.
Sux that you had to use a work-around,but,it beats doing a factory reset to see if you could get it back in the typical fashion.
I've ran into some weirdness w/Dev Options on other mfgs,ranging from the placement to some really weird WTH's fromOppo/Vivo that are worthy of another discussion.
If you happen to find Dev Options located somewhere else in the settings (about phone/etc...) or,it pops-up out-of-the-blue,please keep us posted. :good:

Using Nova Prime long press on screen to add widget, and use/hold/drag the Nova widget called "activities"
Next scroll down until you see section called settings, it's blue/white. Open that up then tap developer menu. Voila you will have a shortcut to what your having trouble reaching the usual way.
