You just need to reboot into recovery and side load a rom via usb.

No. I have a lot of trouble using Sideload in TWRP anyway. It may be my computer, but I've not been successful so far. If fastboot works, I would recommend doing an RUU. Here is a link to a thread here that I've used in similar circumstances: [Bad Boyz RUU. Should get you going. You will need to redo everything, but your phone will work again.

I would suggest getting S-OFF is you plan on messing with your phone at all. It's not too difficult or time consuming and takes some fear of bricking your phone away.
beautiful, worked like a charm, will keep that handy from now on, much thanks for the help

Hello Everyone,
I flashed my HTC One with the new Cyanogen Mod 4.4 Kitkat. I decided to to revert back to the stock rom, unfortunately I never backed up the rom and now I am stuck on the boot loader screen. Before anyone starts to lecture me on meddling with things I have no knowledge of, I am aware of that, so I would appreciate constructive comments
I have tried ADB sideload, which didnt work. (the zip file was sent to my phone but when I install it flashes some text and reports as finished).
I havent a bulls notion on what to do next. I am a total Noob and looking for a solution in the forums is like looking for a needle in a haystack lol.
I have attached a photo of the bootloader screen and the rest of the data below.

Thank you very much for your help !!! all sorted :good:
Hi.
I rooted my HTC One M7 with CWM as my custom recovery. It all worked fine.
Now, I bought a Chromecast and needed Android 4.4.2+ for screen mirroring, so I decided I wanted to update it.
I couldn't do it, I guess I had to unroot first. So I did a lot of crazy ****, nothing worked.
Now, I followed this, but I'm stuck on the HTC boot logo (white screen). I have TWRP v2.7.1.0a
Even after installing the ROM from sdcard after using adb push rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip , it says that the installation failed.
Here's my getvar all, notice main version is empty, and I can't find an RRU for my radio / cmid anywhere!!!

just flash this RUU: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B17smFr95pleSFhvZHd2a0RkTFE/view?pli=1 using HTC_fastboot.exe from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722646249 you will need to relock the bootloader before flashing as you are s-on.
1. Rename file to RUU.zip
2. Place it in adb folder
3. Reboot phone to fastboot mode
4. S On need to relock bootloader S Off lock not needed
5. Also use the htc_fastboot.exe not the normal fastboot.exe
6. htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
7.htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
8.fastboot reboot-bootloader
So first i lock bootloader "fastboot oem lock" then i install RUU?
If so, then thank YOU
But what about unroot and stock recovery?

don't open adb, hold your left "shift" key and right click a blank space in the same folder where adb and fastboot are installed on your computer. Select "open a command window here" then you can type "fastboot getvar all". Make sure your phone is in bootloader mode when using fastboot commands.

Hi! Not the OP here!
I have a tricky situation (in my understanding) a friend brought me Sprint HTC One m7. It has S-on, hboot 1.55. How can I get it back to stock with RUU? I was trying the latest one RUU_M7_WL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_6.23.651.10 but it gets an error on Verifying Signature (not exactly sure about the stage, it pops for a millisecond!) here's the output of getvar:

Use the 7.18.206.21 RUU
You can find the RUU at post #2 of this thread and instructions how to flash it at post #1
But before doing this, you must follow what said at the end of post #2 to change your version-main number so you can flash this ruu.
It worked!
Thanks a lot! It worked like a charm. So basically what I need to do was flash an old version (3.04.651.2) of stock ROM and OTA to new versions.

A friend gave me his HTC ONE M7 to fix, he had a bootloop problem.
I tried unlocking bootloader, getting a custom recovery and installing a rom (with flashing boot.img in fastboot), but they all bootloop.
I tried to install RUUs, exe's give me error 170/171/155 or crash and zip files give me "FAILED (remote: 02 data length is too large)" or they just freeze Command Prompt and close.
Phone is now relocked and S-ON, on Windows 7 (cause fastboot didnt find device on win10 for some reason) and I use a USB Port 2.0 just in case.
I have to mention that its my first time working on a HTC device, and I might not know what RUU to take or I miss something, the last one I tried was:
