Those who have updated to zv8, what are the pros/cons of the actual update? Outside of losing GV goodness, what has your experience been?
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
Cons none.
The only reason for GV for me was battery life and debinged. Battery life has just about doubled with this update. So I can give a **** about going without bing. I'm not even rooted and don't miss the over clock or anything, the phone has been rock solid. I will check out the latest from MT and I appreciate his work, so I know the next release from him based off this update with be the ****. The root method for now is just ....ok I'm that lazy, there I said it

We're you using standard or extended battery?
I have not had any rebooting issues but I have only had vz8 on for a day. I don't know about battery life but I will keep monitoring it. I hope that it is better as I would only have 2 hours of actual usage but it I did not use my phone, the battery would be 70% after about 10 hours. I hope this update improves battery life during usage. This was on stock battery.
I was using GV1.3 as GV2.0 would drain my battery very fast. If I was not using my phone, GV2.0 would drain it to almost nothing is a few hours. It was horrible. This was because of the over clocking of the CPU and even if I dialed it down to close to stock, I still had battery issues.
I haven't had battery, reboot or screen issues with mine. I use the extended battery and even with moderate to heavy use, I can make it all day with no charger and if I have light use, I could probably go closer to 2 days. I do like the feel of the stock case as opposed to the extended, so if battery life is much better, it could be worth the update. I am still on GV2.0 and my phone is very smooth. Also wondering if anyone noticed better signal strength on the network or with their wifi.
I haven't had any issues yet with ZV8... I updated, rooted, deodexed, removed bing and all the bloatware. My stock battery is at nearly 17 hours with heavy use and im at 15%

My signal has been amazing, previous versions I would have a hard time staying connected to 3g/4g at my home (I live between 2 mountains). Now I switch occasionally between 3 and 4g but never cannot connect to a network. Wifi doesn't seen to have changed much for me, at least as far as range is concerned.

Talk to me goose...
I'm hearing a lot of praise in losing GV to zv8, but do you lose your Google Navigation? Long Press Search? Google Voice Commands?
Those things make any sort of an update a no-go if that's the case.

For me also the amount of battery life has been almost double what it was previously. The signal strength seems better also(I used to get disconnected when in certain areas of my house).
As reported by others, a pro is the stock browser doesn't seem to return you to the home screen anymore when you hit the back button. That was an annoying occurrence that I'm glad has gone away

Ahhh... The ADW.Ex is the answer. I'm on the stock launcher. I'll attempt loading ADW.Ex sometime this weekend.
Much better battery life as well as lte coverage. 2 months prior to the update I could not get lte. Had to run cdma mode only. Since the update I rarely even dip into 3g.

Ok... I installed ADW Launcher and it uses Google Search, but long press on search does nothing. I've searched a little and found nothing... Any tips?
So when updating to ZV8, we can keep root but not have CWM correct? Can someone please clarify this for me. I know there are instructions on how to save root from V7 to V8, but is there a way to flash CWM either manually through adb or another method? Do we lose GV due to CWM not being available, or it is mainly because the new updates don't exist in GV at the moment. I'm sorry if I seem confusing in any way. I just got my Revolution yesterday and have been used to working with the development of an HTC Droid Incredible 2. Thanks in advance!
mtmichaelson made an All In One to retain root and CWM. I haven't tried it myself but here's the thread in the Dev section.

Amidst all the threads with 4.2 bashing and complaining and websites calling 4.2 the worst since Honeycomb, I wanted to just say that 4.2 is the best version of the OS to date. I've been sole on Android since 2009 with the Droid release and had experience since eclair. A major gripe I've always had with Android is that regular reboots were required to keep the system running efficiently. Custom Roms were required to have good features. But Android has matured to the point of greatness.
I have a De-Odexed version of 4.2 with not one reboot in over 100 hours on my Nexus 7 and Ive been draining the battery to at least 10% each day. (I use it a lot Lol). This is something I would never have been able to do on any other version of the OS. It is fast, stable and very efficient.
Way to go Google... Can't wait for the next one
Don't worry, it's always the same handful of whingers. Besides them, there are millions of satisfied owners...
If there were a company in the market who had changed their business model from innovation to litigation,
and they had more cash than any other company on earth,
you would think they might be spending some of that cash throwing up FUD for their competitors.
No one says they have to play fair.
Same here, really like and enjoy 4.2.
Of course there's a couple of bugs, esp. with new features, but that's nothing unusual and they will be fixed.
On another note: would you mind telling me how and what you used to deodex 4.2?
Wanna mess around again the ROM but the tools I got barely worked on 4.0 so can't even think of using them on 4.1 or even 4.2.... :-/
Appreciated

I just prefer 4.1.2. I just haven't been whining about it all over the forum.
The only feature that I actually used on 4.2 was the keyboard. So I downgraded back to 4.1.2 and just flashed the keyboard. And 4.1.2 performs better on my device.

I love it. Chrome seems light years faster.
As much as I would love to give my thanks to google for this update I can not. I've been using android since cupcake and one of the biggest fans. Eleven different devices running android over the years. I am always one of the lucky ones and don't have the issues others complain about, untill now.
I've had my n7 since launch and it is the only android I never bothered to root as it was perfect from the start and I had little use for my rooted apps. After the ota I had constant hot reboots and a somewhat flawed ui (not that's a real complaint as much of that was supposed to happen) not to mention worse battery life and slower charges.
I was forced to root, and am happy I did, alrdeay running three different custom roms and pretty impresses, much more so than googles official 4.2 update
This is the first time that in my opinon the update was worse than the previous.
So I guess I like it as it finally made me root my n7!

I quite like 4.2 the only thing I would like added is a restart option on the power button. Have had some random reboots but its nothing major for me and as apps get updated they are getting less frequent.
I don't think I have ever bashed a release version in over 3 years of solely using droid os.
Cursed a few custom ROMs tho

Did you perform a full wipe after updating to 4.2. If not it might have been some incompatible apps making your n7 do the reboots and other things. By the way do you have an 8 or 16 GB n7? I have 16, and haven't had a single problem after updating.

A full wipe doesn't help. I did one before installing 4.2. I haven't had a reboot since I uninstalled HD Widgets, but it hasn't been that long. It may not be causing the problem, but it certainly does seem to make the problem come to the forefront.
Well I have noticed that HD widgets are fine until you use a lock screen widget then all hell breaks loose.

Now that I can finally talk about it (lol), the main thing I have found to be different in 4.2.2, is the battery life. I can EASILY make it through a day and have plenty battery remaining. I have had days where my talk time was around 2.5 hours, and my screen time was 2 hrs, and the battery lasted 17 hours. With medium to heavy use, my battery still easily makes it to 15 - 17 hours. A light use day now can easily have the battery last 24 hours. All in all, the update isn't a major change. There are a few things like the battery charging sound and the quick toggles (long press to do it), but overall the most significant thing the update brings is acceptable battery life. Whereas before, battery life was the Nexus 4's weakness, it is now something of a strength. It's also worth noting that the screen sensitivity issue has been addressed too.

Any news about the data not working when the device is idle for a long time? Or is it me the only one who has it??
Edited for what I assume may be better clarity:
Anyone else experiencing the notification dropdown being... slower? Like they smoothed out the animation of it opening, but now it feels like it takes too long. I liked it being quick before. It seems to be fine if you flick further (than usual for me), but if you do just a really quick flick, it's slower. I don't know how to explain it. I mean it acts like "normal" if you pull it down about half way with your thumb as fast as you want before releasing, but.. that flick man!
I LIKE TO FLICK! =[
Edit #2: Now that I think about it, the notifications feel like they open the way they did when 4.1 first launched, because I remembered them being slower then, too. I got used to it then, but having it the way its been for so long, its annoying to go back.
Also, maybe I'm just crazy.

Now it looks laggy in a way. I doubt it's because I have a lot of notifications loaded up because they were there before the update, too, and I had no problems.
Edit: It will now pull down as fast as you pull it down if you manually drag from the top to the bottom of the screen (i.e. using your finger about half of the way instead of just a quick flick). However, the act of flicking the notification tray down to open it, is slower.

Used to happen to me on the GNEX ALL THE TIME. On the Nexus 4 it only happened to me a few times, however, and that was near when I got it. I don't think I had the problem at all for the duration of 4.1.2. Strange...
I just got the new update an hour ago and wanted to share my thoughts because I know there's still a lot of people wondering what it fixes. So far I've noticed:
- Phone in general feels much much quicker.
- gallery no longer lags.
- switching from wifi to 4g o longer lags the phone
- camera is improved. Still slight shutter delay but I'm thinking it must jus be how it works since it's taking such high quality pics.
-updating apps in the play store no longer makes the phone lag.
-one of my favorite things is the home button response speed is really fast now(yes svoice home button is disabled) I noticed the home button used to lag sometimes. Much faster now.
- I noticed some buttons in the camera and gallery are different and have some extras. Haven't had much of a look yet.
-it appears all my apps are on the SD card now.
I can't comment on battery life or anything else yet but I'll keep an eye on it tonight.

For me, I still see and feel the occasional lag. But then, my reference point was the rooted MDL with the ktoonsez kernel and the Crossbreeder mod. . I dont even remember what the stock MDC & MDL setups felt like.
I don't like that it locked up something so that triangle away doesn't work anymore and flashing chainfire's root through PC Odin causes the system counter to read custom. Hopefully those issues will get fixed. I want to say battery life is better but I haven't had enough time with it to get a definitive answer. Then again, after rooting, I froze a $hit ton of bloat with titanium backup as usual.

Warmth is normal during charging, but if it is almost too hot to hold there is a problem. I'm on MDL and other than slight warmth during charging my phone NEVER heats up. My S3 would get hot/warm even with light usage but my S4 never does.

What improvements got 761 compared to 757?
What improvement you get from a 1.81mb of difference. What 1.81MB of upgrade can do? Nothing, maybe just a speaker bug fix.

I updated OTA to 761, but I couldn't say exactly what it really does, compared to 757.
Vodafone Italy here.

Well it did something anyway.
I had problems with lots of random reboots on .757 but .761 only suffered from one reboot while using mxplayer this morning.
So only one reboot on 14 days instead of one or two every day. So something has surley changed for the better.
Still touchscreen issues sometimes, just turn screen off and on and it works again.

Is there any battery improvements? This is the most important part y'know.
No battery improvements for me. I have an option to upgrade to .761 by PCC (LB, Orange Poland) but I still prefer to use Custom Roms like Evo ora Aur

You know what, I got another reboot tonight when browsing my movies!!!
It worked perfectly for two weeks and then it started with the silly reboots again.
I did not have that on 4.3 though. Must be a rogue app now that is ****ing up everything. I uninstalled all I could think if before this reboot though Surley kit kat issues since jelly bean did not give me these problems.

Same here for me, I flashed my phone like crazy with several different custom ROMs and stock. But I get random reboots each day no matter what App I am using and what ROM I am on. Sometime if I have to capture important moment of life in picture, but this phone ends up embarrassing me and Sony. Seriously disappointed with this phone.

Ye, I'm not impressed with the phone. But I got my money back actually and got to keep the phone. So atm I don't really care. I'll buy the oneplus one when I get the invite.
But did you try 136 4.3? That one worked with no reboot's for me.
I actually think it is the "movie" app that might cause my reboots now since that recently got updated. And I didn't have a single reboot for two weeks before that.
We must have something in our hardware that fails abit with kk or something.
