Hello everyone. Week ago I've became a happy user of Xperia Z1, and one of first things, that I've tested is a screen mirroring, as i have a TV which supports miracast and has an option to Enable\Disable DRM support. It worked flawlessly. Yes, there was a lag up to 500ms, but for me that's OK. Then i've updated firmware to 4.4.2 and lost ability to stream phone's screen on TV. Changed many firmwares, including customs, but no luck. Connection dialog opens both on TV and Z1, but terminates automatically with message, that TV does not support HDCP. I can stream audio\video\photo via WiFi, but not phone's screen. As i understand, HDCP is a protection, wich allows to run DRM-encrypted media. And my TV should be able (and surely was able) to stream it. Just tested same feature on Xperia C with my TV, it works. Have anyone seen such problem, or knows a way to disable HDCP on Z1?
I imagine you have unlocked your bootloader?
I am not 100% sure but you said the connection depends on DRM keys; you lose these when you unlock the bootloader.

Nice one, but miss. My bootloader never changed, as i used only firmwares, not kernels. And first mirroring didn't asked for keys or something, only permitting dialog on TV screen.

Your are not sure about that but this make me think, are we able to connect with UB anyway?
Well I am at a loss.
I just a MHL to HDMI cable to mirror the screen on the TV and it works fine.
Sorry I cant help more

MHL fork for me too, but it's really more comfortable when there's only phone in your hands and picture is on big screen.

True. I will be glad if someone know how to fix it so I will know more about it and maybe I will test ti too to understand if that working on UB.

Prefer the DLNA and the Throw system or use a MHL to HDMI cable
The HDCP is just painfull and broken.

Yes, tried that too. My Phillips TV found and installed update, Samsung TV found nothing. But nothing changed, Phillips shows in connections menu, Samsung not (i think Samsung TV simply does not supports miracast)
Just found pack of patches for other android phones, which fixes screen mirroring. It's said, that screen mirroring stops working after rooting, and patch disables HDCP completely. There's a patch for Snapdragon 800, which i just applied, and got a confirmation, that it's working, but with opposite effect- screen mirroring service stops with error. So all we need now is to change patch (file /system/vendor/lib/libwfdsm.so) for xperia (and maybe some others) devices. Or it's pretty possible that screen mirroring will work if we just replace current libwfdsm.so with an older version, which surely works. I'm ready to run experiments on my Z1, just need that file from older firmware.
any update from this issue? I got the same probably after 4.4.4 update.
I have a Z1 and am having the same HDCP issue with a brand new Microsoft Miracast dongle.
According to the Sony support forum, Sony has updated to the "Latest" version of the HDCP standard and all these other devices are on an old version.
Sony is paranoid that we are all going to steel their content. Apparently they don't realize that this lack of compatibility only hurts hones customers,
the thieves already know how to get around these systems.
If anyone has older software I would love to try the option above.
I hate having to open the USB port every time I get into my car, I just want to cast the screen to my AppRadio. Sony should have made the magnetic charge port also support magnetic MHL out.
Apparently 5.0 will solve this but for now we are all stuck on 4.4.4 or older.

I have a D-Link DHD-131 Mainstage WiDi adapter, supporting Miracast because it runs WiDi 3.5 firmware (correct me if this is not correct). I can find the device, but when I try to connect the D-Link says that it has found a device that wants to connect and after a few seconds the message disappears. The Xperia on the other hand is just patiently counting down from 120 seconds to 0 and except that does nothing.
Are there any people that use Screen Mirroring? If so: did it work with your adapter? What brand adapter are you using?

I have tried connecting to a Samsung AllShare Cast Hub, which may not be 100% MiraCast compatible, but according to some video on YouTube it also works with the LG Optimus G Dual (also a 1080p phone)
I found the following issues:
Connection is 'successful' but screen remains black and no sound is transmitted
On one occasions I somehow managed to hear my phone's sound through my TV - haven't managed to do so since
WiFi is disabled (indicated by a pop-up message) as soon as screen mirroring is activated, and re-enabled after the screen mirroring connection is closed!!!
The first 2 items may be compatibility issues, but the third one surprised me and is probably a limitation in the Xperia Z. While the Galaxy S3 can have WiDi and WiFi active at the same time, the Xperia Z apparently cannot
Edit: note that in order to connect to the dongle, I had to press a button on it first. Before pressing the button, I would just keep seeing the same countdown timer you describe here. Maybe that helps somehow?

Hmm... My WiDi adapter had no buttons at all, only a reset-button. I tried resetting and pairing, but that didn't help. Thanks anyway for your reply, at least I'm not the only one having problems using the Xperia Z's Screen Mirroring function with 3rd party adapters... I wonder if there are any combinations of adapter/XZ that do work...
I've just bought a Chromecast device and I'm trying to
setup it. The problem is that when I plug it to the tv, a message appears
saying "Starting chromecast" and then the Chrome logo. After that, black
screen. Nothing appears. The setup program in my pc can find the device but
I can't see anything on the TV.
My TV model is LG 32LE5500
I tried rebooting the TV by unplugging everything and nothing changed.
Also I tried the Chromecast devide in another TV and it worked there, but it's not my TV and I need it to work in the LG one.
I've tried all hdmi ports and it's the same in all of them. The chrome logo and then black.
The last thing I did is to configure the device from the other TV and then plug it on the TV that doesn't work. I realized that the audio does work, I launched the YouTube app from my cellphone and I could hear the video, but again, black screen.
Could it be that my TV has a resolution of 1900x1080 and not 1920x1080?
Please I will appreaciate any kind of help, I really wanted to use the device and it's useless for me right now
According to LG, that's a normal 1080p screen.

More likely there's a router setup issue. This may help as a starting point -

Your TV is 1080p, so it's 1920 horizontal.
IIRC the boot logo sends 480p, then Chromecast negotiates with the TV as to what resolutions are supported.
Your TV might not be playing nice in the negotiation process.
So, try booting Chromecast without it connected to the TV.
Disconnect power from Chromecast
Disconnect Chromecast from TV
Reapply power to Chromecast
Wait for it to boot (wait until LED goes solid steady white)
Turn on TV if it is not already on
Set TV to Chromecast input
Plug Chromecast into TV input

Very strange. Almost sounds like an HDCP handshake problem.
Try the HDMI extender in case it's just not plugging in quite right.
Other than that, you can try disabling HDMI CEC (LG calls it SimpLink) and see if that makes a difference.
Do you know what firmware build it has? (Chromecast app will tell you)

Nice names.
Well, you're on the latest firmware build (15250) so either Google broke something in the newest update, or your TV is finicky.
Since your TV is Smart, it might have a firmware update available.
Wait... The specs say "TruMotion 100Hz" - is your TV PAL? It might not support NTSC input...

HDMI doesn't care about PAL vs NTSC frequencies by design, exactly why so many in the UK were able to adopt early last year.

While I agree that it shouldn't matter in this day and age, they still exist separately in the EDID data because of the differing pixel clocks.
It's possible (though ill-advised) for a modern display to reject an input signal based on it being 50/100 Hz or 60/120 Hz.
I deal with a lot of AV stuff and have run into this issue from time to time.
Well, TIL then.

I'm learning every day... sometimes the hard way.
Traditionally European TV sets have been more forgiving than their US counterparts, accepting NTSC "nudged" into PAL-60 or NTSC 4.43 in the analog realm.
While the transition to HD did unify the display resolutions and pixel aspect ratios (everything's square, yay!), the differences in refresh/sampling rates remained.
One day my friend, one day... everything will be 600 Hz or better so 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps content will all be supported and play without judder or needing interpolation. :cyclops:
So back to the topic at hand, it's possible the OP's TV doesn't know what to do with a 30/60 Hz input from Chromecast, though that would be quite silly of LG to impose such a restriction. Still, silly happens more often than you think for all kinds of reasons (gray market sales due to varying exchange rates and import/export laws often is a concern, as we burden on regional support that got no revenue from the foreign sale).
TBH, I don't know for certain whether Chromecast is capable of 25/50 Hz output, it might be. But being that Google isn't selling it outside of US/Canada yet, I doubt they've tested it.
>> Anybody in Europe, can you confirm me whether Chromecast outputs 720/50p, 1080/50i or 1080/50p to your TV? <<

That TV in the picture you posted is very similar to the one I have. Did you have any problem using the chromecast device?
The link I gave was from the Eastern Mediterranean, I was more curious about verifying your resolution at the time. There's a 60/120 Hz (NTSC) version of your set, same model number, popular in several South American countries.
I apologize for adding the confusion.

Hmm, should work.
Worst-case, since you have other displays that Chromecast does display properly on, you could try this: (it worked on 13300, haven't had need or opportunity to try it on 14975 or 15250)
Locate working monitor and LG TV in close proximity
Connect Chromecast to working monitor and wall power
Once Chromecast is booted, unplug Chromecast from monitor only
Plug Chromecast into LG TV
Likely this will not survive a Chromecast reboot though...
I've got a Sanyo DP50740, and my Chromecast is now showing this same behavior. It used to work fine, but I think that the update to firmware 15250 broke something with hdcp in some TV's.
I filed a bug with Google, but the end result was that the google helpdesk can't tell what was updated in the latest build.
I suggest you file a similar bug with Google, so that they see that this is happening with multple TV models.
Until they fix this I'm stuck with a paperweight.

Nope, tried that. The only thing I haven't tried is to boot up plugged into another device then plug in. Don't have any portable monitors with hdmi input. It might be that they fixed this glitch in the latest firmware.
This is the annoyance of allowing google to update firmware at will. They can break your device, and there's then nothing you can do except wait for the next release. That's why I encourage the original poster to file a bug with them. That's their only window into what's happening.

I tried to "throw" somthing at a Samsung SmartTV yesterday. Video doesn't work, pictures and music do work most of the time. Still not very reliable the whole thing.
Miracast is great in theory but sadly still a bit unreliable, getting it to work between two devices is kind of like gambling. The fact that there are tons of different names for it also doesn't really help. And it stops working if the bootloader is unlocked.
The OP really needs to explain properly what they mean by "is bad" and "wont work": what sources, what are they expecting to see, and what happens instead.
The problem here is that "Throw" in this context could mean a number of different things if the Auto-select option (Settings > Xperia Connectivity > Throw settings) is set: DLNA, Miracast or Chromecast. The OP should disable the automatic option and try manually.
DLNA is obviously dependent on the destination device supporting the codecs of the source. Sony TVs can be quite weak with these, and depending on your model they may only support the most basic video codecs for DLNA compliance - check your TV manual.
Some source devices & apps can transcode to the best supported destination codec, or use a server app on a PC to do this in the background or on the fly. Try apps like BubbleUPnP to test this.
On the other hand, Chromecast (& Cast screen) works very well with the Z3C if DLNA is flakey ...
I got it to work I just had to keep on disconnect and reconnect wifi on the phone. also I meant not working as it won't connect to the TV as dlna and the tv is a Sony is w850 so that's not the problem as my previous Samsung and LG phone worked instantly the Sony seem to take longer.

I have recently bought a chromecast for my old old samsung le32r51b. it does have a HDMI input, so i figured it should work. But no matter what i do, i cannot get the chromecast to display anything. All it shows on my tv is "No Signal", which is exactly the same wether the Chromecast is in the HDMI input or not.
This is despite the TV detecting something is set in the HDMI input (i can choose it under sources of input), so it knows it is there, but doesnt show anything, at all.
I have tried to reset the chromecast.
I have made sure it gets power and blinks white as it should.
I have tried to power it with USB and regular power supply.
I have tried to use the HDMI extender cable.
I have tried to first set up the chromecast (powering it) and then setting it into my TV.
Nothing worked.
AFAIK it is sending and working properly with my smartphone, so i think my TV isnt showing what it is recieving?
I dont know if i can test this on my PC or stationary PC? i have tried connecting my chromecast to both, to make sure it was working properly, but they dont recieve any signal.
i have a Netgear Trek PR2000 for router. i cast from my iPhone 5 iOS 8.0.2
PC and laptops don't have HDMI IN but only OUT...probably a defective chromecast...does ur tv display HDMI from other inputs ??
Have you tried a different HDMI port?
"r" is the model year code, in alphabetical order. Mine, from 2010, is Le32c650. When did you buy yours? In the nineties, or in the future?
In the first case i can't believe that there was hdmi, and if, these issues are age related. Probably only Displays with Hdmi 1.4 up supported. That was the standard, when Hdmi, BluRay and FullHd really went off.

I ve got the same problem my samsung LE32R51B(Old one ~2003), can t cast from chromecast gen1 and gen2, i can ear sound but no image.... The problem maybe on the hdmi version early 1.3.
I am looking about answer from the forum https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromecast/9QPojuA3lSU;context-place=forum/chromecast. But until now without solution.
Maybe if i can update my samsung LE32R51B. but i think it will be dificult to do that. try to the web support from samsung but there is no firmware availabe or way to do it
Solution from google item 6:
"If you saw your Chromecast's loading screen ("Chromecast" with a spinning Chrome logo) but the home screen is black, you could be experiencing an HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) with your TV. This issue is easily fixed by rebooting your TV. Turn your TV off, unplug it, turn everything back on and try again."
https://support.google.com/chromeca...36?hl=en&ref_topic=3447927#ts=3090411,3222434
I dont know how to reboot, but i ve turn the tv Off and unplug from the wall. and still not working.
With my newer tv, also from Samsung, it work perfectly.

Hello,
I am asking if someone have some experience with AA Mirror (MirrorLink for not officially supported phones) on XZ1 Compact.
I am basically asking if someone have tried it, if it works or works reliable or not. Usage will be simple only for GPS navigation - Sygic. Nothing more.
Reason is that to get AA Mirror on XZ1 Compact i need to root and unlock bootloader on quite a new phone, that still have about 14 months of remaining warranty period. So I would like to know if its worth of it.
Any info will be appreciated!
I'd like to know this, too. I was going to get a MirrorLink screen this week until I realized this phone probably doesn't support it natively...anyway, does AA Mirror do anything non-rooted?

I havent tried it, but since it needs low level USB access, I am sure it wont do anything, maybe not even install.
Problem is that MirrorLink support is really weak. Sony does not support it at all, and e. g. Samsung only on flagship models.
I still guess that I have to try it, not really appreciate it. I hoped that this forum section is more alive.
I have been using AA Mirror daily for the past 3 months. About one or two times a week the connection to Android auto is lost and I have to replug the phone in, or my car stops responding to touch response. This usually doesn't happen when I use regular AA apps. That's about the only issue I have and I haven't tried changing settings to fix it because it doesn't happen too often, everything works well enough for me to keep using it.
Edit: I'm actually using AAStream, a version that should fix some bugs

All on XZ1 Compact? That s really cool to hear!
Were there any special steps for getting it work ? Except of root of course.
Ok, I just realized that this isn't actually MirrorLink. It's just outputs Android Auto, not MirrorLink. OP, you got my hopes up for nothing...
Anyway, my searching indicates that non-rooted AA Mirror kind of works for mirroring only. The touch input doesn't, so you have to do it via the phone screen.

I know that. As far as I searched, for full and true MirrorLink you need to have manufacturer support out of the box. No one actually figured how to implement this on other phones. I guess that it requires custom kernel module or something closed source.
AA Mirror or AA Stream is sort of solution for other phones, but it works as screen mirroring utility only (you have to control everything from phone, not from car). I really dont mind, especially for GPS I always set up destination or changing it while not driving. So basic screen mirror is enough.
I already installed AA Stream / AA mirror and it really requires root. Without it doesnt work, which I have expected.

Yes all on XZ1 compact. And no special steps, but have to add I'm on the LineageOS rom. Just never have been able to get Netflix working as they block screen output to another screen, but that's a different issue. It's not perfect, but it's the easiest thing I have been able to do after rooting my phone. I have way more issues with banking or McDonald's apps than with AA Stream Still worth it though. In fact so worth it I refused a free iPhone from work as I rather keep my compact for these 'features'
So I just got a car radio that supports mirroring over both USB debugging and MirrorLink and it works perfectly without root! Including touch input via the car's screen. The radio says MirrorLink ("P-Link"), but I assume it's doing it through USB debugging. Which makes sense, since that's the same way most Android remoting programs work on PC. I haven't tested the audio but I assume that works, too. It has a huge 7 inch screen and was pretty cheap, so it'll be perfect for navigation.

Thank you very much. this is really helpfull !!
I am also considering LineageOS 16.0 RC6, because if I understand properly, that if you dont backup DRM keys you will loose official Camera and other functionalities after root.

Lucky you!
But this will probably not work on stock car display unit (like original 7" Toyota system) which almost all supports MirrorLink only. I will try it You have some additional app for that? Or just checked Dev. options on and all OK?
No additional app. Just USB debugging enabled.
