Ok yes, I know that people can use the Sprint Music + app to subscribe to and set ringback tones to calls/contacts but I am wondering if there's already an existing app that will allow people to use music they already own to create their own ringback tones and set them for calls/contacts so we won't have to pay fees to do this? If there is not already an app capable of doing this, is it possible to create an app that could do this?
Considering that the ringing they hear is generated by the service provider, before it fully connects to your phone, I don't believe an app could possibly accomplish this from the phone side.

There is even better solution!
We've created an app to do it the right way. How it supposed to be!
Now, you can hear your favorite music or ringtone, while you waiting until call is answered.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading from a Tmobile Dash to a G1 but need to know if there is a program on the Android platform similar to the CallFirewall program on Windows where it will take an incoming call and sends it directly to voicemail if on the blacklist. It's actually a deal breaker for me as I love the flexible whitelist / blacklist options on CallFirewall.
Thanks!
How does that functionality built into the os tickle your fancy?
In every contact entry there's a checkbox that says "send calls to voicemail" it makes it so your phone doesn't ring or show the call, the missed call is in the log but no notification... and best yet to the person on the phone its as if you haven't done a thing... rings all the way to VM

Yes, its by bratag =] requires root access, so root your phone before downloading.
What does that mean? Root your phone?
Also, could someone tell me how many contacts the phone will hold?
I'm leaning toward getting one.

Android is linux based and the super user account is called 'root', there is various ways to root android phones and you can even buy an ADP (Android Developer Phone) which comes by default with super user access enabled.

Android (not just G1) uses SQLite to store information and depending on ram etc it's for all intents and purpose limitless.
Cool, thanks about the contacts.
Still not sure what the root thing means, but with a built in call blocker I guess it doesn't really matter

i cant seem to find the bratag app... anyone has a clue??

Check this out

Works amazingly.
I also can't find bratag's call blocker on the market anymore. Does anyone still have a copy of the app?

Hey,
Anyone currently use a Blacklisting app that blocks incoming numbers that you can program in there that has had success? I see a few of them out there on the market but I am not sure which one is the best. Anyone have experience with these sorts of apps that could suggest one? (T-mobile n1 on 2.2)
I've seen that cyanogenmod includes one if you look under call settings.
Haven't gotten the chance to try it, as I don't get many calls these days.
iPhone had the iBlacklist that was real nice.
Wish there was something cheap/free similar to that.
Of course you can already do that to contacts you have in the stock ROM, I suppose you want to do it to non-contacts..
I've blocked my dumbass car loan folks, as they call to remind me a payment is due starting 5 days before and then call 2-3 times a day if I'm late. Unfortunately I still get voicemails.

I use extreme call blocker for that purpose. It has a lot of other features, but I don't use them, so I can't say how well they work. but they are only useful if you are trying to hide calls and texts

Again, the build-in functionality to block calls is built-in and "just works", never even know the call was placed.. Unless a voicemail is left, of course.
I use CallFilter from the market. It's free and will also block unknown/private numbers as well as those not in your contacts. I've been using it for months and love it.

Sometimes I get a fraction of a ring, and the screen usually pops up, but I like that it end the call with out sending them to voice mail
The numbers that I added to my blacklist prevent my phone from ringing. They go straight to voicemail. I don't even know I have a missed call until I look at my call log or they leave me a message. I love this app for the simple fact that I can block people who I hate and stupid people who like to play on my phone. There is also a pro version in the market as well.

I use android firewall by lucky-dog xing...works perfectly. I'd never know they called if I didn't check the log, and it hangs up on then so you don't get voice mails.

Is there a way anyone has figured out how to fix the FC'ing issues other than deleting it? I really like this feature, and it's already come in handy with my job and referencing previous conversations. I've tried to fix permissions and what not but still I get a FC warning when a call comes in but it stills records?!!? Any help would be great! Thanks

It has been mentioned a couple of times in each of the BAMF threads. the call recording app requires additions to the kernel. if you do not leave the rom on the default (or another BAMF) kernel, call recording will not work.
I have the same fc. I'm using kernel shipped with rom. When receiving incoming calls I get a fc but it still records. Makes it hard to answer as well, but the conversation ends up in the app with null instead of a number.

I'm using the kernel that shipped with the ROM as well...I was reading up on that in the other Bamf threads but I'm stumped.
ditto on wanting the call recorder nice feature
-bump-
Are any of the people having issues with CallRecorder using any 3rd party apps during the call?
Apps such as Mr. Number (blocking phone calls, or any similar app), etc, seem to interfere with callrecorder.

Exactly same story for me. Has anyone heard or seen any more info regarding this? I really want call recording but the FC is annoying.
Thanks!
Mines working I've been doing full wipe of cache, data, and davlik or w/e its called x 2 each time I install. Maybe try that?

Kernel issues ?
Just delete it and re-install it.
Use astro to install the app

I've been using RocketDial and Call Recorder has been working flawlessly and un-noticeably. Case in point, I forgot about that feature/app, and when I happened to open up the Call Recorder, I notices all my phone calls were there, two days worth.
What a cool and handy app. Hopefully I will never need it, but as the saying goes, better to have and not need than need and not have.
Have great Mother's Day all!!!

Try downloading the latest Adrynalyne kernel. I believe it was released today. That could fix the fc problem you're having.
Anyone know how to have the music player not look in the recorded calls folder when adding to playlist. Really nice app but annoying when I have shuffle all on and I start hearing my recorded calls instead of slipknot...lol. I use subsonic and there is a option to have the built in music app to not scan that folder.....

Try adding an empty file named ".nomedia" to the folder.
I use an app called "Backup to Gmail" which backs up (and can also restore to my phone) all my SMS, MMS and call logs to my gmail account. It would be awesome if there was a way to backup each recorded call from the Call Recorder app to my Gmail account in the same email as the call log backup so the recorded call is an attachment to the email.
I know that would use up a ton of data, but maybe there could be an option to only backup the calls when connected to WiFi if people need that.
Is building a backup to gmail feature something that is possible to do with the call recording app?

Kernel Changes
Can anyone let me know what Kernel changes are neccesary for this app so I can put them in a kernel i'm trying to compile
Apparently, unless I am missing something, I can't put in alternate ringtones unless I root. It seems you can for individuals under "contacts" but under main ringtones, unless I am missing something, you can't. This is SO FREAKIN BACKWARDS; I could on symbian 4 years ago! Am I missing something?
OR you can open up the music app, find a song you want to use as a ringtone, press "menu" and choose "use as ringtone".
You can also install MP3 Ringtone Maker or something from the market and shorten the song(s) that you have on your phone, so it starts playing where you want it to play.

Ok, thanks! I was trying to set it from the "ringtones" menu. Just couldn't believe that this couldn't be done; don't know why you can't choose from the ringtone menu, though. Would seem logical. I can make ringtones through reaper DAW.
Yeah i don' know. I think it's possible to do it on my Desire HD with Sense, so it might be a TouchWiz thing.

Just download Zedge in the market. If they don't have the tones you want, you can upload one yourself and then set it as one in your phone.
I'm asking on behalf of a friend, and don't have direct access to the phone to diagnose the problem, so I thought maybe asking here would help. My only information was that their friend was trying to set a custom ringtone (downloaded via Zedge) on their Motorola Atrix (didn't specify whether 4G or HD, I'm only presuming it's a newer phone). However, rather than the ringtone actually playing when someone calls, it just announces the name of the caller instead, with no ringtone otherwise.
Any ideas?
Must have voice read out active or something. My ring tones work fine.

Is there any way you can walk me through how to disable that? I'm sort of doing this long-distance, the person I'm helping is in Texas while I'm in Georgia currently. They're either new to their phone or just new to smartphones in general. Since my only phone is an iPhone currently (and my prior Android was a Captivate), I don't know the ins-and-outs of Motorola's phones. I assumed maybe it was a "drive mode" or something like some of the older phones had.
Aha, I think I found it: "Menu > Call Settings > Caller ID Readout > Ring Only," if I've done my research right. Thanks, though.
