HTC One almost caught fire - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so im using the latest Viper rom Viper 6.1.0
Plugged my charger in sunday night, and the Usb connection started to smoke all in about 10 seconds of being plugged in.
Now my problem is, my phone still works, and charges if its turned off, but not when its on. I cant connect the phone to the computer via usb as its not reconignse the phone.
I want to send it off for repair, but know my warranty is void, as im running custom rom. I cant drag my photos and other info music etc off the phone, as I cant connect to the computer.
I was wondering about bricking my phone, so that the repairs cant turn it on, but I cant get anything on the phone because of the computer connection problem.
Anyone suggest anything I could try
Thanks Steve

Im debating what to do know. As the phone appears to be charging and connecting to the computer using a different lead. So I wonder if it was the lead damaged that's causing a problem. Although it was the end of the charger more than the phone that got hot.
Think I may have to run with it a day or so, see if things carry on working.
Thanks for the help.
Steve

You had better luck than me. I had something similar and it completely cooked the port. I couldn't charge it at all or connect to pc. So warranty was denied due to all the mods and I have to pay

Normally yes. But this time I used my wife's HTC One M8 charger. It has a slightly higher output. So I am wondering if this was the problem. Think ive been lucky, the phone seems to be working fine now.
God knows what would of happened if I had plugged it in, and left it.

Ah, I always use my tablet tf300t charger and it goes alright

try another adapter if u charge through it

Ok you tried another usb cord and have you tried what I mentioned, not saying that will work but worth a shot yes?
can you still USB mount? Have you tried another power source? try use a wall socket?
Are you Rooted/S-Off?
If yes, try another rom.
If not, try other charger, cable.
Pull out and in Battery.
Try load while device is off.
Try another battery.
If nothing works is the USB Port broken or device.

Rooted Warranty

Hey guys,
So the battery went bad on my D4 last week. My phone is rooted, and it will not boot past the DualCore screen. Because it won't boot, there is no way for me to unroot it. Is it safe to send in for a warranty claim since it doesn't boot, or will they try to fix it and then see if it is rooted?
They might not. I busted my usb port once... phone was still rooted and I crazy glued the port closed so the people who reciecve it wouldn't know. Give it a shot it, because if they do find out you would have to pay for another phone anyway.

Have you tried connecting to a pc using a official Motorola usb cable? Sometimes that works even if the battery won't charge or at least i think i read that somewhere.

Its not an official motorola cable, its a motorola factory cable, it bypasses battery and directly powers the device, and you can use it to charge and flash in a low battery situation.
I think you would be okay, because the first thing they usually do is flash it back to stock before checking the hardware. I sent in a phone that was safestrapped/rooted, because it died after overheating, and everything checked out okay.

Yep it must be the usb, sometime I had a message that said my phone was using more power than what the charger provided and that I needed to turn off the phone or stop the running applications.........and wasn't using it at all lol
I went and get one from eBay in less than $7

Help! My phone isn't charging.

One day I was away from home and my battery was low. So I had to use a Sony Xperia charger. But now my phone has problems charge.
problems such as:
-it won't charge
-it only charges to 50%
-the charge cuts in and out
-I have to leave it still or it won't charge.
Has anyone had these problems occur. This is really annoying and I would like to find a solution ASAP
*and the only charger that doesn't cause this problem is ny nexus 7 charger. But I don't want to use it. Because when I tried it, it said it's not compatible and will damage my device.

Unfortunately it sounds like the micro USB connector port may be partially broken. Did you try a different USB cable with the stock charger?

If your phone is charging half way through then It should not be the connector. Try charging through the use if laptop. Try clearing the battery stats if rooted else back up your phone and try restoring it to factory settings.

[Q] Phone does not turn on

Hey everyone, let's see if you can help because I'm out of ideas.
My HTC Desire C was working fine but I wanted to change the SD card, so I turned off the device and switched the cards... but when I tried turn it back on the device does not respond - no htc splash, no bootloop, no noise or vibrations. I thought it could be the battery so I left it during the night charging. No response in the morning either.
So left the battery out, and took the sim and sd card out for a few hours to try again later. No luck then either. Then tried connecting it to the PC but it has no effect. Took the battery out again and left the cable charging, no go.
Tried a few more combinations but still cant get it to turn on. Does anyone else have any another idea?
Guess I'll have to take it to customer service when I return from my vacations.
u saying took out battery and let it to charge..Lol the phone won't charge.
If u connected it properly get ur usb cod or adapter checked....
which rom were uusing???
kernel???
Lapsus linguae. I tried booting the phone without battery and just the cable... obviously wasn't charging.
Plus the charger and cables work fine on other phones, so that isn't the problem. It's the phone...
I was using the sense v3.1 rom from russell and the lowest kernel in that package from nikhil.
Any tips anyone?
Sounds like a faulty sdcard to me. My brother was in the same situation and it turned out the card was faulty and fryed the phone.

Could be!
I've returned from my vacations and just left the phone today at the service centre. I'll re-post in a few weeks time with the outcome :good:
I wonder if they'll notice that I've flashed the phone and what they will say
Got the phone today. They didn't tell me what was wrong, but it does turn on and didn't have to pay a thing.
They re-flashed the stock rom... first thing to do is change the rom!

Just noticed yesterday while unlocking the bootloader that the phone is a different one, it has a different IMEI number and all.
So to solve this solution they gave me a refurbished phone...
