[INDEX][REPO] F2FS Roms and Kernels 14/6/2014 - Nexus 4 General

What is F2FS?
F2FS (Flash-Friendly File System) is a flash file system created by Kim Jaegeuk at Samsung for the Linux operating system kernel. The motive for F2FS was to build a file system that from the start takes into account the characteristics of NAND flash memory-based storage devices (such as solid-state disks, eMMC, and SD cards), which are widely used in computer systems ranging from mobile devices to servers.
What is All-F2FS?
We used F2FS only for /data. It was simply because we have only to flash a compatible Kernel and Format /data partition. With All-F2FS we use F2FS for all partitions and we need a compatible ROM
Instructions:
(All credits to authors. legolas93 only made them compatible with F2FS)
Download compatible ROM
Download FormatPartitions.zip
Download "special" TWRP for All-F2FS: openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-mako-All-F2FS.img
(This is different for that of simply F2FS)
Copy FormatPartitions.zip and ROM on Phone
Flash "special" TWRP with Fastboot
Flash FormatPartitions.zip with new Recovery
Reboot Recovery
Flash ROM with new Recovery
(Flash GApps with new Recovery)
Go to Wipe Menu and press Format Data (The Big BUTTON!) (You will LOSE all your Data! Music, Movies etc!!)
Reboot
(Recovery has a RED back button to remember you that you are using the F2FS recovery!)
Phone is snappy and smooth with All-F2FS.

Thanks for this detailed thread. It will help lot of the users to actually know which ROM,Kernels are F2FS compatible.

Thanks for this thread a lot more of compatible F2FS ROMs to come in the coming days !! Also can you link some compatible boot.imgs to this list
I know 2 compatible boot.imgs atm
1) SlimF2FS boot.img
2) Firebird F2FS boot.img

If anyone wants to make an F2FS ROM, here's a HOW-TO
Also upload it somewhere, so the OP will update the first post.
@OP, ak xGenesis works on F2FS. It should be in OP.

It's just easy as cake to make every rom out there f2fs compatible. I just make the roms from the psx dev, because in my opinion these are the absolute fastest roms out there. I can just recommend to all to just try psx402 with ak kernel on art. Unbelievable

What's the actual advantage of F2FS, compared to EXT4 for example?

Maybe you can add credits to devs too. And my kernel work very well on F2FS without jolinnard modifications.

you should just link my folder and not the roms itself, cause I always update the daily builds for the roms. Noone will find the roms you linked, cause they are not there anymore.
And I deletet plsx, cause there is no use for it since psx is out. Same rom, same speed, just more features in PSX.

I see psx 4.0.3on your Google drive, but on the psx forums I can only download 4.0.2. What sorcery is this? Can we get changelog? Thanks
Edit: I spotted OmniSwitch in 4.0.3 version.

i just spent the last hour mocking around on the phone
these are my findings:
from mikaole's drive, i managed to get rusty's build working after i manually formatted the cache directory
i didn't follow the instructions from OP since i'm on f2fs for data already
anyway after i got it working with slim's kernel, i found that it is not possible for me to use jolinard's selectetable kernel....
i'm back on purity now with only data as f2fs
thanks for everyone's good work in putting this together, i'm not critising, just reporting back what happened
hopefully the kinks in the system will be ironed out next time i try going all f2fs

Hi, which kernel work better with omni ART+F2FS
Thanks

I did use rusty's build on full f2fs with jolinard's hellsdoctor selectable kernel.
I hope you renamed the kernel before flashing it

I just can not believe how fast PSLX + Matrix + F2FS is!
It totally worth migrate from EXT4, i think i've never felt a so smooth, fast and stable experience!
Thanks!

Always create a backup before flashing, to have a rescue option when something bad happen.
IMPORTANT NOTE before installing
Create a backup of your existing rom.
You can't go back by just flashing over an older android version.

OTA can be found here: Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates
If you are using "SlimKat 4.4.4 (build 6.9 - 20140729-2210)" and you like to use OpenDelta OTA, you have to replace the apk.
I had an error inside the OpenDelta config, so the included app wont finde any updates (This is fixed in later releases).
To replace you will need to use adb and replace the apk (apk can be found at the end of the thread). Therefore open comand window and type:
- adb root
- adb remount
- adb push OpenDelta.apk system/priv-app/
How to change filesystem to f2fs?

- Boot into Recovery
- Select Wipe (1)
- Choose Advanced Wipe (2)
- Choose system and data (only one at a time) and than select Repait or Change File System (3)

Well at least it boots for now there is hope after all. Now if pengus77 could shed some light on how the 3.x kernel is going along, that would be awesome
Test to install with full wipe and with none-neon gapps and found first boot take a little bit longer time and got many error about setting can't do any thing so decide to make new install with slim gapps YES i can pass to use the phone like normal rom :good: BUT now switch back to JB because
-WIFI not work as said at OP but I need wifi.
-InternalSD not mount and error notification said blank sdcard or unsupport BUT external sdcard can use via /storage/sdacrd1 so /dtorage/sdcard0 unuseable.
-Camera and gallery force close I think because of not detect internalSD.
-random reboot BUT it very fast to back to lockscreen.
hope WIFI work next version and will test again.

I am trying to fix wifi next.
Than internal sd-card will follow. I think I know what needs to be changed. Now that the phone boots again, I can do something.
On LG E610 L5 there have also been reported some issues regarding wifi, not sure if the same as here, but on L5 the issue are related to wifi cryptation where wep and wpa2 works, but not uncrypted......just wanted to mention just in case. @PecanCM works on it.

wow respect @DJNoXD i tested it and it's very smooth and i've ca. 230MB of RAM free to use (after clean install)
hope it will be stable soon
Just a wifi question, are the issue related to wpa? By that I don't mean wpa2. Just wanna know because on LG-E610(L5) there is no problem with wpa2 and wep.

[Kernel][CM11]Vatsal's Kernel v3

Hello guys,
After roaming around almost a year and half around xda, doing something fruitful
Here i present my first CM11 based kernel,
Disclaimer : You installed Kernel ,on your device ,I am not responsible .
If you installed kernel ,on a device ,without reading instructions ,I don't give a Damn !
Warning : I don't support Nandroid Restore
Attempting to use Nandroid Restore can lead to a perma brick .
Consider Nandroid to be permanently broken on this kernel.
Features :
100 mb shrinked from system to /data (For more internal memory ofcourse )
cache reduced to 8mb
Some touch tweaking (11 mb more ram Thanks @Dark Raven )
Toolchain used:
Linaro 4.7 by @Wedgess
Unique Feature
Modified partition layout which works flawless as far as my knowledge .
One Layout is maintains original system Layout ,The rest of 5 layouts come with Modified System Layout .
All Kernels have 8 MB cache partition so by default roughly 90MB bump in /Data is seen .
The best results with latest LX builds
-CM11.0-
Changelog:
Code:
V3
-- 201401227--
Reclaimed 66 mb more space
Same as LX 20140122 LX CM11 build
V2
-- 201401227--
Reclaimed 6 mb more space
Same as LX 20140122 LX CM11 build
V1
-- 20140122 --
Like in 20140122 LX CM11.0 build.
Steps to be followed:
Flash kernel (boot.img)
Boot to recovery, do all the wipes (data, cache, system, dalvik)
flash the rom zip
flash the minimal gapps if u want (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48535200&postcount=4)
boot
Note:
1) If you donot format system the rom wont boot even if your on same rom with different kernel. SO its mandatory
2) Flashing the whole gapps will result in a bootloop as i have shrinked a good amount of system size (~100mb)
3) You can run ART well but please donot report issues if your running ART as it is experimental (mike already said that)

but without the capability to use restore we are stucked to the rom we are using..cant flash any addons or backup your rom to restore if anything goes wrong..that features must be available if you can.
backup and restore are essential on any kernel, hope you guys can fix it.

[script][tool][windows][4.4]convert any rom to full f2fs

This is a Windows Batch Script/Tool to make any 4.4 based ROM to full F2FS compatibility !! This tool can convert any existing ROM from ext4 to Full F2FS Compatibility in a few clicks !! All tools necessary for conversion included in the batch file itself !!
Basic Info
DISCLAIMER
Code:
*I am Not responsible for any bricked devices,SD cards or thermonuclear attacks.
*Please do some research about what you are doing before you use the tool.
*YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if

***FAQ's***
Q. I get errors compiling the ROM on my XYZ Windows Version?
A. Read through my steps once again especially point 1 & 2. Hopefully u can get it to work.
If you think you are doing everything correctly post it on the thread and Ill try to reply within 24Hrs.
Q. I want to do it on Linux !! Why you no create bash scripts ?
A. Im not good at bash scripting !! Also dont own a Linux Distro so cant help you guys !! But look here @jolinnard has a script for Linux users
https://github.com/figue/f2fs-scripts/blob/master/convert_ROM_to_f2fs.sh and make necessary changes for Hammerhead updater script if any
Q. I can do the same with the Convert to F2FS apk on the Playstore ?
A. Sure you can. Converting on mobile is easier also. But only reservation is that it is paid. Not everyone can afford it.
Also time permitting Ill create a Android Terminal Script based on jolinnards script for Linux.
Q. Do you think I can convert it myself ?
A. Yes its just clicks . Read my steps and do it you wont go wrong.

Thank you for this. I just went to f2fs 2 days ago and was thinking of how to include one of my favorites kalo now and once 4.4.3 comes out. Knowing enough to wait for compatibility once 4.4.3 drops . Really thanks again.

Thx a lot I'm not good at Linux so dint try bash scripting !! Anyways if we can get this it will be smooth to develop a mobile version of the script too !!
Bdw @fishears also wanted to port this to Linux !! Might be you could get in touch with him to know the progress made by him
Can someone point out the differences and advantages of all-f2fs ?
Are we currently using f2fs or ext4?
I know, noob question.
Normally every one is using ext4 for all partitions.
That's why you have to format all partitions before you can start with f2fs.
F2fs is faster than ext4. Apps are opening quocker. Reboot is a bit faster. Everything feels smoother than on ext4.

Ql, but do I need to make a backup of /data partirion before flash? I mean backup of all user data. I assume that format to f2fs will erase all user data.

Take note.
Restoring a ext4 nandroid backup onto a F2FS partition is impossible (except when using something like Titanium Backup to restore apps from from data nandroid).
So I'd suggest you to backup your apps with Titanium Backup or Carbon/Helium. Send all your "SDCard" content to a PC, format and flash ROM send stuff back and restore using the backup app.

AICP
Android Ice Cold Project
AICP is known by everyone as Ice Cold Project that started on Desire HD and since then evolved into a mature ROM with the BEST community you can find!!!
Until Lollipop, Rom has always been AOKP based. Unfortunately, since AOKP either stopped development or will make a comeback later this year, we changed our base to CM when it comes to hardware, drivers and some features.
If there are any bugs, either AICP will sort them or CM team if it concerns their modifications. This rom isn't CM supported so no need to report errors or bugs to them!!

i have solution to the sensor bug. (github)
why u didn't include the build.prop in the rom ?
EDIT: for the sound: u need to use stock or cm11 snd_soc_msm_2x file.
in the newKernel.zip file /system/ folder is useless, i added that folder for because i have used cm11 etc and hw folder in cm12.1 thats y to overwrite them... as i built cm12.1 kernel so no need of cm11 files.

@DarkFrenzy thanks for the edit feedback. I will add that soon...... For some reason I when I tried to add the build.prop to the ROM, the rotation was off. Even after setting the right permissions and setting "ro.sf.hwrotation=270". The changes wouldnt stick so I came up with flashable zip. As far as the newKernel.zip /system folder, I was wondering about that, thx for clearing that up. Will remove those folders and update to the new sensor config.

system folder inside the rom zip file is not commaned to extract. you do that by adding " package_extract_dir("system", "/system"); " before the last unmount of system.
ex:
Code:
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system", "/system", "");
package_extract_dir("supersu", "/tmp/install/bin/supersu");
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "unzip", "/tmp/install/bin/supersu/supersu.zip", "META-INF/com/google/android/*", "-d", "/tmp/install/bin/supersu");
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "sh", "/tmp/install/bin/supersu/META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary", "dummy", "1", "/tmp/install/bin/supersu/supersu.zip");
[COLOR="Red"][B](ADD HERE)[/B][/COLOR] [B][COLOR="Lime"]package_extract_dir("system", "/system");[/COLOR][/B]
unmount("/system");
or u can do all modification you want to the system in your tab (like remove useless apps and add needed libs or files or add apps) then you can dump the system and convert the system.img to system-new.dat and update the zip with new system-new.dat

So I've been running the cm13 ROM from the sm-t217s on the sm-t217t version of this tablet and everything has been good. So yes I can confirm they are compatible. I also tried the AICP rom and it also worked. When I get some time I'll try the new blisspop one to see if its compatible also and let you know how it goes if you want.
*UPDATED: Build.prop and Kernel is now included in ROM.
-Download ROM (and GAPPS if needed)
-Boot into Recovery
-Make Backup
-Wipe/Factory Reset
-Flash Rom
-Flash GAPPS (if needed)
-Reboot
-Install Performance Control .apk (for Kernel Features)
-Enjoy!

Commotio
Commotio B-105
Commotio VS Vanir:
Commotio is DHO's take on Vanir. Different UI, scripts, and often testing new features that may be merged into Vanir.
They are 100% compatible and users can pick their favorite. Commotio can be thought of as bleeding edge testing ground for new features and optimizations which may or may not make their way into Vanir

Commotio + Vanir Features:
- Multiple Devices
- Based on CM13 nightlies
Debloated
- All inclusive ~180 MB –> 60 MB of Bloat removed
- Fully featured LatinIME Keyboard, but only 2.2 MB (normally 16-20 MB), removed tracking/logging
- And soo much more
Butter
- Compiled with linaro keychain.
- Optimized with linaro 4.8
- GCC 4.8 w/ -O3 -fstrict-aliasing AKA highly optimized compiling for better results (like Linaro)
- Vanir.cfg – Set your CPU frequencies, colors, ZRAM, and much more. Set and once and forget; it stays on your SD card
- DHOtheory: Sets up the kernel/ROM the way I like it, then self destructs on first boot, so you can change it later
- Go-faster Axiom scripts
- Vanirice – makes everything just a bit smooth
- For every 1 user settings there are 5 power saving + performance tweaks tweaks

IMPORTANT
Currently SuperSU has issues, so kindly don't flash that and access root by enabling developer options by tapping multiple times on build number in about device and then enabling root access from there.
Flashing this right NOW, very excited. Exactly what I've been waiting for!
Note to anyone looking to flash the kltevzw variant: the 7 April official vanir build does not look like it has picked up my proprietary files change. It may boot, but definitely won't have radio until they pull it over from CM.

So that commit will hit the next attempted build, but their vendor_samsung repo hasn't had the changes pulled over yet. The nightlies will fail to compile until that happens.
I'll reach out to give them a heads up after finishing changing the oil in my trucks.

Its the toolchain and scripts which are used to build it. Its more performance focused instead of new features. Install it and then compare to to cm 13 on your device and you'll notice the difference.

Yes, the latest versions are OK to flash. Don't flash any older builds because they don't have essential files for VZW. The kernel is stock CM.
