Poll/discussion: Replace your N5 with the OnePlus One? - Nexus 5 General

Now the pricing for the OnePlus One has been confirmed ($299/€269 16GB, $349/€299 64GB) who here is tempted to jump ship?
I love the sh*t out of my N5 but I'm sick of trying to get good battery life out of it. I think the 3100 mAh in the OnePlus One will remove that hassle/concern from my life. Opinions?

Hell no way . N5 is good enough for me !

first try getting it! its invite based. It may be months before you can even try it. Besides check out the raised glass.. easy to shatter IMO

This phone looking good but I will stick to my N5

5.5" display, too much for my taste.
but the hardware and price are looking good.

No love for t-mobile so I'll have to pass. Would've bought it too.

Not sure whether this will come to India.
But if it does, at a good pricing (similar to USD or maybe slightly more), I am surely going to regret buying Nexus 5 just a few weeks ago.
Anyway. I am not switching devices for next 2 years or so. I love my Nexus 5 quite a lot.

I read about it on engadget this morning. I didn't see anything about the speakers but my first thought was TAKE MY MONEY then i remembered.... I don't have any money.
as much as I shy away from cyanogen mod, this phone is beautiful.

Nope. New nexus will blow this phone away..

I know right! 64gb, 2.5ghz quad view snapdragon, 3100mah battery and voice features.... Omg that's exactly how I wanted my Nexus haha.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

If CyanogenMod gives more updates for the OnePlus One than Google for the N5, then the OnePlus One is a huge win.
$350 for a better camera, 64gb storage, 3gb ram, larger screen, and capacitive buttons - too tempting. If SlimKat will officially support this device I'll sell my N5 for this.

Anyway I'll wait to read some review about the CM11S and the phone performance.

I think the trade off from slow wireless charging to quick charge technology is a great trade off. 0 to 75 percent in about 30 minutes on a 3100mah battery like the find 7s quick charge.

Best phone to compliment the Nexus 7?

I'm thinking of getting a new cell phone I hace an iPhone right now. What would people recommend?
I'm looking at a One X+ on ATT or maybe a Galaxy Nexus on Sprint.

either the galaxy nexus or nexus 4. dont get a gn for sprint, a gsm gn on att would be better(would be best on tmobile). sprint data speeds are terrible, 3g and lte.
I guess first thing we need to know is what carrier. People will say DNA, note2, gs3, nexus4. In the end any phone will compliment the n7. I have a thunderbolt and does just fine for me. I tether to my n7 and sit the phone aside while I use my n7.
One thing to keep in mind about the gnex is battery life is very poor. People has posted it lasting 4 to 5 hrs tops. In the end any phone you get will be fine and no phone will have an edge over another. Only thing a n7 needs from a phone is tethering.

not true. galaxy nexus battery life is very good(gsm. lte versions are a bit worse). i easily get 4-5 hours screen time on my gnex. if i use it lightly, it can last for days. if i use it heavily, itll last all day easily.
I would have to say any of the nexus phones or mkbhd's "super nexus" what is a routed

Not true at all. The galaxy nexus battery life is very good. I easily make it through the day on a single charge. Obviously if you play games and watch videos non stop then it will go like any other phone, but like I said. The battery life for the gnex is very good.
Also I would say to the OP that a nexus handset would compliment the nexus 7 very well. Either the galaxy nexus or nexus 4 would be a good choice. Depends on preference really.

Nexus 4 or a GNex but like people have said the N4 is sold out so I would get a Gnex. DROID Dna or One X+ are also great phones. I wouldn't go with sprint I hear nothing but bad things about them. My father has sprint and half the time I get a bad connection with him and he gets dropped calls constantly. Data isn't very good either. I'm with at&t and have no problem with them but if I hadn't been with at&t for 8 years I would go with T mobile.

galaxy nexus or the new nexus 4 are great with a nexus n7. Using the n7 means i use the phone less to browse and youtube meaning i get great battery life out of both, but the galaxy nexus is always there ready to google something if i need it.
I usually get 3days battery from my galaxy nexus

There's too many variables to suggest you a new phone. It's you that matters.
Do you love taking photos with a phone? Would you take advantage of a replaceable battery? Do you like to play a lot of games? Do you like a huge screen or would you prefer better one handed use? Do you like a screen with realistic colours or one with in her face colour saturation? Can you use 4G where you live? Do you use your phone as an mp3 player all the time?...
The list goes on. What is a great phone for someone else may not necessarily be a great phone for you.

I'm considering getting one instead of an N4. I just love amoled screens, and the extra processing power of an n4 is not important to me since all my real gaming is done on my N7 now. My phone, like someone else mentioned in another thread, plays WiFi tether ***** more than anything now.
To be honest I'm still perfectly happy with my galaxy i9000. Since I've already bought an N7 though I'd go for the galaxy nexus for the HD amoled screen mainly. The only thing making me wonder was a guy a few posts ago saying the battery life is poor on the gnex, although at least its got a replaceable battery. But like you say the development on it is similar to the huge development still going on for the original galaxy s which is what I want. Although the n4 will have huge development too.

If you want unlimited and you're looking at going with a contract there's always T-Mobiles unlimited option, their unlimited value plan is 70 bucks for legit unlimited. And I would recommend a nexus phone also. If you can't get ahold of a nexus 4 maybe try to find a used gsm g'nex.

The nexus 7 is the most valuable electronic device for the money in my opinion. Therefore the phone to accent it should be equally priced well per pound. Nexus 4 then skyrocket s2 or t mobile s2 before galaxy nexus because of SD slot.

My GNex got great battery life much better stock than my N4 now I gain much more battery on my N4 with custom kernels than I did on my GNex but battery was never a huge issue for me with it. I'd rather not go AMOLED anymore but if I did it would be a GNex again over a GS3 that's why I kept my GNex and didn't sell it. But if u can hold out a lil longer the N4 is to me far superior. I agree with the post above about now that I have an N7 too I use it more for my browsing and entertainment activities except while at work where my N4 is still my best friend. Better battery life now for my N4 as I use it far less cause of the N7. If u like AMOLED go with the GNex:thumbup:

Who may consider buying an upgraded Nexus 4

Depending if thats whats announced next week. The improvements could mean bigger storage, better camera, LTE compatibility, better battery life, and of course KLP. If they keep it in the same price range I'm all in
Especially if they dont even announce the Nexus 5 release date.

If Google announces that those of us who recently bought a Nexus 4 could upgrade just by returning the one we have, then sure I'll grab the upgrade. Otherwise, I'm happy enough as it is.
Maybe, but probably not. If they do release a heavily upgraded model for the same $299 price point...google better pull an apple and give me something though, considering I just bought a n4 a couple of weeks ago.

If its only the 32gb and LTE spec upgrade I won't bat an eye. On average with T-Mo I'm downloading 6-10mbps. Coming from sprint where that's near their LTE speeds, I will settle with H+ and 16gb just fine!
I doubt I'll upgrade until 2014, as I plan to keep onto this phone for a while. 16GB is more than enough for me and LTE isn't in my are yet.

Same here. I use the tablet for HD content so I still have nearly 6GB free on my phone and T-Mobile's HSPA+ is, in practice, as fast as Verizon's LTE and faster than Sprint's. LTE is still half baked.
I'll hold for a redesigned phone. Im knid of secretly hoping that LG was bidding but that HTC will win making a Nexus version of the One. Although LG has been the best supporter of the Nexus program so far (outside of the shortages, which were Google's fault).

I'm gonna hold out as well. As for the resale. Once the 5 is for sale I'm expecting the resale to drop by at least 30%. This device has the hardware to stay up to date for at least another year.
Wayne Tech Nexus
No real need to upgrade for me. The rumored changes are LTE, 4.3, and more storage. We already have LTE (I get 25Mbps down in an unannounced LTE city), we know 4.3 is going to hit this device shortly after its unveiling, and I'm fine with 16GB storage.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I don't really miss LTE. Sure, it's nice for downloading files quicker, but I really don't notice a difference in how fast web pages load. The only way though that I could upgrade would be if the current N4 retains some resale value.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
The only thing that would interest me is a bigger battery. I could care less about LTE. I don't need an additional radio killing my battery even faster. As for more storage? Not necessary. I don't keep a bunch of junk on my phone and only one nandroid so I regularly have between 2 and 4 GB free.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using swag
I don't like iPhone just because of that( well and iOS sucks and the market sucks and I'm not a 12 year old girl) but honestly I would be all over it if it had more storage and LTE.

The HSPA+ is not available everywhere in Chicago area. You get a lot of E or 3G. Let alone the LTE..
if itll have 32gb and better battery, im gonna upgrade. otherwise im sticking with the 'old' one, dont care about lte (hspa+ is perfectly enough) and im happy with the camera.

i still like n4 more than n5 (n5 is too big and i like the glass of my n4)
I'm probably sticking with my Nexus 4 for a little longer. It does everything that I need and it doesn't lag and slow down like my G2x did. For now.
The one reason I may have to jump on the Nexus 5's successor is if more games gain Android controller support, which increasingly seems to be the case. All that extra performance might seem unnecessary to most, but with more and more advanced and graphics-intensive games entering play store, the extra powerful CPU and GPU aren't just gimmicks.
Still, it would help if more manufacturers would push their phones as gaming handheld machines, maybe offer their smartphones with Android-compatible controllers and a few free games for a few more bucks. I would totally jump on the package if I needed to upgrade from my N4. Imagine Google offering this package:
1. Nexus 6
2. Android gaming controller
3. $20 Play Store voucher
If the starting price for the 16gb is $349, tack on another $30-$50 for the controller, and $20 fort he voucher. $409. Tack on the package discounts you see retail stores for combos, and offer the whole thing for $400.
That would be cool but I don't think most people by a phone for gaming.
Still loving my nexus 4. Really was considering the 5 but I'm having no issues at all and this thing is still lightning fast. I have a good hybrid acase so it is extremely rugged and I'm just still happy with it.
Man, figure I got this thing when it was released and if I can get 2 or 3 years out of a phone I spent $350 for.. That is just freagin awesome.
If the prices drop enough though on the 5, I may bite at some point.

About Nexus 6 need your opinion

Tomorrow I'm going to buy a Nexus 6, the new unlocked with a 2 year warranty, EU version but I need your opinion worth whether to buy or wait for new models of Nexus, and if you can tell me, is it a good phone or buy other models as note 5 or S6 edge+, for now I use nexus 5 for two years and I'm very satisfied
Don't let anyone tell you to wait for the new nexus, because when that phone comes, then it will be wait for the next new one. Waiting is pointless, there's always gonna be something better shortly after.
As for the Samsungs, I hate them personally. The hardware is nice, the software is junk. Yes, even the newer touchwiz is crap. Nothing beats stock Android. NOTHING!
Staying with the nexus phones your on a safe path of constant fast updates first.
The Nexus 6 is one hell of a good phone and I guarantee that you won't notice any performance difference between this and the new nexus phones. Yipee higher scores on antutu maybe, but that's complete crap.
If you are interested in a large phone. Get that N6. Period.

Possible new nexus 6 user

Thinking about picking up a used nexus 6 on tmobile, any known problems I should be aware of? How the battery life on average ? Thank.
If you need to announce yourself as a possible user. Then don't. Skip it the Nexus 6. It gets terrible battery life I'm constantly charging mine or changing the battery. It's a 3 almost 4 year old phone and your very late to the show. In fact its nearly over. Do yourself a favor and get a Nexus 11 or a Nexus 13.
Might as well skip and get the 6P/Pixel if you can.
Camera is so-so, battery life doesn't stand a chance with today's gen.
Well, IMHO, if it's a fair deal for you, and you can't afford/want a newer model, I wouldn't go running from it. Many of us are still very happy with this device.
If the battery hasn't been changed, you will absolutely experience battery problems. With care, it is not too hard to replace the battery and they can be had for ~ $15(US).
You'll want to make sure the USB port is in good shape and not only charges but connects to a PC correctly.
Pure Nexus and lineage are currently actively supporting this device, though Google is stopping updates.
It it's easy to root and flash ROMs. It's a reliable device to learn on.
I started, nexus 6 to nexus 6p to samsung s7 edge to samsung s8 and now going back to nexus 6 there you go

thanks everyone. cant really afford a new phone atm and was looking for something with a 5.5-6" screen and decent battery life running android.
I currently have a at&t note 3 thats ok , but is very limited to custom roms because of the locked boot loader and im getting bored with it. any other phone suggestions that meet my requirements?
It's been a great phone for me, have a few newer ones but I keep using my old nexus 6,love the screen, great front speakers still fast And most important is the Rom development.who cares about updates from Google, I'm sure I'll have O on it soon enough

Thank you for the feedback, is there any major difference in the Motorola and Google models?

I just picked up a brand new ATT (GSM unlocked- I'm using on T-mo) overstock for $215, and for that price I can't think of a phone with a better dev community and support. The battery life is definitely not bad if you take a look at undervolting/underclocking a bit and maybe sticking to black OLED themes/pixel filters. Definitely has not been an issue for me and the turbo charger is, quite frankly, amazing.
My $185 Moto G4 just kicked the bucket and the Nexus is miles better in almost all regards.
