Hi all,
After rooting and installing CWM recovery I see that the Application Software version differs from the File System version - 9.2.A.0.295 vs 9.2.A.1.210. Is this normal? I have updated the phone through Sony PC Companion as the OTA was failing (had to lock the bootloader). Now I'm getting OTA notifications about the 1.210 version, which I already have. It's not a big deal, I can force stop it, but I am concerned about the version differences.
The phone is Xperia V.
I can share more details, if needed.
Found the issue - I was rooting the phone and installing CWM recovery. After installing the recovery, which included flashing custom kernel.elf in order to install the SuperSu app, and re-flashing the stock kernel.elf, the issue occurred again. Looks like the stock kernel.elf is not up to date, causing the system to think that there is a new FW version and popping up in OTA as a reminder to update. Case closed

Guys,
I flashed my Note with a HK Original Samsung ROM (N7000ZSKK1, obtained at the development section).
When I bought it in Shanghai, it had a modified version of the original firmware with lots of china apps that meddle with what I want to do, and since it had superuser on there I knew it was flashed. probably from a China issue version that doesn't have google apps
All seems fine after flashing the original HK version, except for one thing: I get software update notifications, and when I try to install them, I get an installation failure notification. I thought that if a phone had a correct ROM installed, it would be able to receive OTA updates? I was hoping to get Samsung's ICS update officially (rather than performing ROM flashes each time an update comes along...).
I used Mobile Odin to flash the firmware. Without checking (e.g. by installing titanium backup) I don't know if it is still rooted or not. Prior to flashing it the unit was actually not rooted (the chinese unrooted it after flashing the custom HK ROM I think), and it had the same issue wrt not being able to install OTA updates.
Any idea why I cannot install OTA updates?
Alternatively, what's the easiest solution to keep my phone up to date with samsung's latest and greatest?

Sometimes OTA updates get fail. Try with Samsung Kies.
Tried that, but it gives the message "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies". It states for current firmware version: PDA:KK1 / PHONE:KJ6 / CSC: (TGY)
SHould I be installing a different firmware?
Hi, i am from Brazil and I am trying to update my Android using Configuration --> About --> Update. It downloads the new version, reboots and when it boots back, the nothing happens, same old version. i dont know if the unlocked bootloader is preventing my mobile to update. Attached ia a acreenshot

In order to take an OFFICIAL OTA you must have an unmodified system, original unmodded kernel, original recovery and not be rooted, no xposed or any other changes.... aka PURE stock unrooted. If your update isnt taking chances are you have made changes to one of the above. Google how to go back to pure stock
I have the same problem, my phone is only unlocked, no root or system mod or other trick; the phone download the ota then reboot, but after an error message it reboot again and I have the same message (in english Language).
Hi all, after a long time I'm back!
I restored my phone to stock as I was on a version of crdroid which was well out of date.
So I have downloaded Sony Mobile Flasher, and have so far tried 4 different FTF files. They all flash correctly to the phone, however when I try to flash a custom recovery (I have tried dualrecovery, free xperia, CWM) it always gives me the logo of the custom flash I tried then bootloops.
I'm not sure if this is related but I've also tried rooting the phone via the stock rom. I have managed it successfully, somewhat. Some apps work with root, for example SuperSU appears when I use Root browser, asking whether I want to allow access or deny, however adaway, or Xposed can't install (presumably they can't make changes to system). Also busybox can't seem to install, even after granting it root permissions.
So the main problem I am facing at the moment is I can't seem to install a custom recovery without getting in constant bootloops, requiring flashing back to stock.
Cheers!
Hi,
It seems to me you are using an incompatible recovery with your current firmware. AFAIK Sony updated the bootloader firmware with the lollipop update, and it handles recovery differently than it did before.
Make sure you are running the right software as said on the recovery thread.
All the best,

Hi mate, thanks for the reply.
I have tried multiple firmware's, from 14.2.A.0.290.1276.0875 up to 14.4.A.0.108, with a couple in-between too. I've also tried doomkernel, freexperia, dualrecovery etc on each of these firmware's separately, still bootloops afterwards though
I rooted the stock 4.4.4 my Z3C came with (without unlocking the bootloader), and then applied the OTAs as they appeared.
The device is still rooted according to Root Check and on 23.1.A.0.690
Now there is another OTA being offered (only 11.7meg). When it reboots to apply, the progress bar under the graphic only briefly moves to ~10% and the the phone boots fully. But it says "Software update: could not install new software version. please try again" after I enter my pass pattern.
Trying again doesn’t change anything.
Is there a log file or something I can check to debug ?
Edit: used FlashTool http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706 to upgrade to the next verson (D5803_23.1.A.0.726_Generic UK) *without* clearing USERDATA. After that reboot (and slightly panicky longer than expected time to flash), a new OTA update appears that was much larger (~10meg). That one downloaded and installed exactly as expected, and I'm now on a couple of versions after that with all my previous data intact.
I did not retain root. giefroot will come to the rescue I'm sure once all the updates are installed. Another 200meg of OTA update just showed up!
Hi everyone,
as I just got a new Z3 compact after a while with a company iphone, i wanted to get rid of all bloatware and use a stock rom right away. I have had some previous experience with android rooting/flashing but this was a while ago and I must admit I may be a bit more out of depth than i thought.
I figured I needed to root first, to be able to get a recovery mode working, to be able to flash new roms (or so I think is the way to go).
Forum posts led me to this method which I sucessfully did.
Also it seemed from this post that downgrading firmware was essential.
My Z3C now runs 4.4 1285-6521_23.0.1.2.105, and I have access to CWM 6.0.4.7
But now, I realise that most roms (or at least the 6.0.1 stock SLiMM which I think I want?) actually require TWRP - and fails to install with CWM (zip install finishes in a few seconds - with no changes).
I've tried to install TWRP manager from the play store and install it from there but the install yields an error. I guess because of CWM presence? The files for a flashing it manually are missing from their official website.
I've looked around for tutorials on how to install TWRP over CWM but couldn't find a clear way.
So I'm wondering what are my next steps.
Should I install another kernel to be able to run TWRP, like this one?
But do I have to flash the corresponding firmware first?
And should I use the Advanced_Stock_Kernel_Z3C_MM_6.0.1_23.5.A.0.570 download if my phone needs 23.5.A.0.575 - Unbranded - CE1 [Central Europe] (1288-7915) (I'm in France)??
Lastly, will I need to restore the DRM keys and at which point?
You might have noticed I'm confused now ⁀⊙﹏☉⁀
Any help is appreciated ! (> ^_^ )>
Thanks !
Two Steps:
- Flash 23.5.A.0.575 - Unbranded - CE1 [Central Europe] (yes its also for france) via Flashtool
- Do this (quite new) rooting and TWRP installation!
And then whatever you like - SLIMM is maybe the best option!
DRM Key (if available) can be restorted after full stock flash (with stock kernel) with facory resert.
