App to turn off screen WITHOUT locking? - Verizon LG G2

I have looked all over and can't find anything on this... I simply want the app/widget to turn the screen off the way the power button would and let the system defaults take over from there as far as locking.

Thanks Devs, from my LG G2

Thanks a ton! man... i seriously tried like 15 of these kind of apps and this is the only one that worked. I had not tried it before due to the chinese writing in it and thinking it would be that good. It works great though... doesn't lock the screen!

I'm curious... With the knock-knock feature, why do you need this? If you're at your homescreen to press a widget, presumably you can knock-knock to turn the screen off too? Actually I think knock knock on the status bar anywhere and the screen turns off...
Is it because your knock-knock locks the screen? Because that can be disabled as well.

When using a different launcher such as Nova, or to place it in a widget.
Thanks Devs, from my LG G2

I use nova gestures to set double tap and link to the app you just downloaded to turn screen off. I believe nova prime is required for this to work but don't quote me on that.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but I'm trying to achieve the same thing using nova but the app you've suggested seems to automatically lock my phone too!!
I just want to do as the op said, turn off the screen without affecting the lock settings or locking the phone there and then.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or alternatives?
Maybe the app has changed since this thread was started?

Main reason being that i still want to keep the lock code... i just dont want to have to keep inputting it everytime i need my phone. Often, i'm having a convo and will be answering messages and will literally pick up/put down my phone 5 times a minute so i'd like to employ the time system default lock delay.
Any other ideas? :

What about settings>security >screen lock >none? This is what I did and it works great ?

Try setting up Lock timer and unchecking power button locks instantly in lock screen settings (I don't know exact translations, sorry).
I have timer set to 30 seconds so if I turn screen off and immediately recall I wanted to do something, screen is not locked yet.
These settings should be available on every Android device, I was using it even on my old Nexus S. I only noticed on G2 that if I'm using knock code, screen can't be turned back on using simple double tap even within timer interval and I have to use knock code. But power button asks for code only after timer interval.

Smart Unlock
Hey. Sounds like you need the app 'Smart Unlock' from the Play Store. It's been developed by some off the top guys from XDA.
It works by turning off the need to enter the lock screen pin/pattern when you're connected to a safe or known Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth device.
For example when you're at home just tell smart unlock that it can trust your WiFi network and BAM! Never need to enter the unlock pin again once connected to that network. It will bypass it completely and just present you with your home screen. Sounds exactly what you're looking for ?

It's not quite the same either. Because it still requires you to be connected to a wifi network or bt device and it does not work on the go, but more of a area based situation.
I am also still looking for an app that can turn off screen without locking the device, essentially mimicking the power button entirely. I want to leave in place the locking ability of the OS after 15 seconds-30 minutes.

I am looking for the same functionality. Every app I tried manages to go and lock the screen when it turns off. I was using CM roms for a while where we can add a shortcut that puts the display to sleep without changing the lock settings. This mimics the power button behavior. So far no luck with finding an equivalent app from play store

I found this: "Screen Off" by an awesome developer Konreu. Please remember to send him thanks and 5 star ratings.
http://android.konreu.com/applications/screen-off/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.konreu.android.screenoff
It mimics the power button almost exactly without requiring root. Because of Android limitations, it takes about a second for the screen to go off.

It's hard to believe that an app that does such a simple thing as turning off the screen can't be found.
I have tried a dozen apps and they all turn off the screen AND lock. I'm looking for an app that does just what the op said; turn off the screen and follow android's lock settings (lock delay, etc).
We're almost there with the app that Sepero suggested, but the screen takes a second or two to shut off because there' is an animation you have to choose from. You can't just straight shut off the screen.

I found workaround, working good for me. But you'll need Tasker and root for this:
— create task with action "Run Shell",
— insert command "input keyevent 26" and set checkbox "Use Root"
This command emulate a power button press.
It works good, but not too fast for me (it have about 0.5-1 sec delay), so I add vibration and screen dimming for immediate reaction.
Here is description of this task:
A1: Vibrate [ Time:60 ]
A2: Variable Set [ Name:%prev_brightness To:%BRIGHT ]
A3: Display Brightness [ Level:0 ]
A4: Run Shell [ Command:input keyevent 26 ]
A5: Display Brightness [ Level:%prev_brightness ]
I can export this task in standalone apk, if somebody need it.

Ahhh brilliant! Thanks BusinessSausage.
I have already bought Tasker a while ago on my S5 but never used it. I knew it would come in handy one day. Works perfectly on my S6, without the delay you've mentionned. Simply using "input keyevent 26" turns the screen off right away and doesn't lock it.

[GUIDE] Setup Tasker Buttons in Glance

So I recently got a Pebble and discovered there were several ways that one could start Tasker actions using the Pebble. I have become a big fan of Glance and decided since it already supports Tasker I would use it instead of relying on another app on my watch. The instructions on how to set things up on the Glance website aren't the easiest to understand so hopefully this guide will help anyone out who is having difficulty.
-Difficulty: Easy
-Requirements: Pebble with Glance, Tasker on your phone, and at least a basic understanding of Tasker
The first thing we're gonna do is get our buttons put into tasker, these are the buttons on the Pebble that you will be using to launch actions from within Glance. I named my profile Glance Buttons but you can name yours whatever you'd like.
-From within Tasker create a new profile. Select Event/System/Intent Received. In the Action field type:
Code:
uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERINIT
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This profile is done, now let's make our task for this profile. I named mine Glance Tasker Buttons but again name your task whatever you'd like.
-Click the + to add an action to the task. Select Misc/Send Intent. In the Action field type:
Code:
uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERSEND
Don't exit yet.
For the next part you can substitute everything after msg: with whatever you would like your button labels to be, I will use mine as an example. There are 3 buttons and the first label will be for the top button, second middle and third bottom. Each button will be separated by :
-In the Extra field type:
Code:
msg:ACV On:ACV Off:Voice Recorder
The hardest part is over, now let's make the buttons actually perform a task.
Create another profile, I call mine Glance Assignments.
-Select Event/System/Intent Received. In the Action field type:
Code:
uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERKEY
Now for the task. Use if for the first action, just click + and type if and you will see it. Pictures are easier than words here so setup your if action as shown here in the picture:
So now you need to decide what happens "if" you press the top button (TASKERTOP) It's up to you pick anything you want, just add another action after the "if" action to assign it to that button.
You assign each button this way, one last picture to show you how it looks with each button assigned to an action.
If you found this helpful please hit the thanks button.:good:

Is there anyway to have Glance conduct hourly vibrates? I find myself wanting this feature a lot but cannot hide from the fact that Glance is just all around awesome.
I have messed around with Tasker very little and cannot find out how to program an hourly task. I tried creating a task that
1. Notify Vibrate - then Wait for 1 hour. It vibrates the first time on the phone then also the watch when I start it but there's nothing time specific. If I start the task at 8:10 then it'll vibrate at that time.
Hope someone can help.
Try making a profile that triggers every hour. Then have a task that broadcasts the intent " uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERVIBE"
The intent will make the pebble Vibrate.

what are some of the actions ppl are using glance+ tasker to perform? I've never used tasker but am willing to learn. I know it's extremely powerful but have never thought of anything I needed to run automatically. I'm sure some ppl have ridiculous profiles and actions setup. I read one guy has it configured to disable his lock screen when his pebble is connected and in range and enables a pass code when not.

I use Pebble Tasker's ANDROID app, to populate the Tasker actions in Glance, with it's optional feature. Works great, much easier to set up and maintain, then setting it up via Glance's intents. The Pebble Tasker Android app, basically creates the intents for you.
I don't actually use the Pebble Tasker WATCH app at all. The author of Pebble Tasker, said he's adding Long Press Button support to his Glance Support soon! (awesome!) that'll increase Glance's actions to beyond 3!
As far as the Actions, I have my three Tasker buttons in Glance setup to do this:
1.) Flashlight (this triggers TeslaLED which has a tasker intent to toggle flashight / camera flash. One press to turn on, one to turn off.)
2.) Google Now (this opens the Voice Search application, so that I can interact with Google Now and do voice commands etc. I'm extra l33t, so I'm using the SecureSettings tasker plugin, to also first, turn the display on and wake the phone, and then disable keyguard (because otherwise, this won't work with the phonescreen off unfortunatly). It then waits 15 seconds, and re-enabled keyguard again).
3.) Voice Record (This starts recording via a tasker plugin for the app Easy Voice Recorder Pro. So when pressed, it starts a voice recording. Great for stealth recording, getting pulled over, etc. The author of Easy Voice Recorder is going to add a new Tasker option to "toggle recording" so you can start/stop with one button press. If Pebble Tasker adds long press support before that, then i'll just do Long press for Stop recording in the mean time).

I use an app called Pebble Locker to disable the lockscreen when my watch is connected (in range). When it's disconnected, my phone then requires a PIN to unlock. I did have this set up in Tasker at one point, but Pebble Locker is much easier.

Features include:
Control your music playback and see what's playing right from the Dot View cover.
Add gestures to the case and customise them.

* See the full notification when it first comes in: your notifications scroll across the screen.
Quick dial contacts right from the cover, with support for up to 9 shortcuts spread across 3 pages.
Don't have a contact and still want to dial them quickly? Open up a full dialer right from the cover.
And if you're bored:
Play a quick game of Snake, retro-style!

Yep, I realised email was bad for this kind of stuff since a lot of it is repeated.

Awesome, looking forward to it!
I have a couple of suggestions:
- Is it possible to make it so that none of the apps are turned on by default for notifications? So that people have to add the ones they want rather than untick the rest that aren't really useful?
- Is it possible to disable gesture controls completely? so no menu or music control etc?
This module will be perfect for me if it is as close to stock as possible, with the addition of custom notifications of course
Anyway, keep up the awesome work :good:
Believe it! Play SNAKE at Dot View. also play song.
I'm having trouble with it actually wo4king for long periods it will stop displaying notifications after like the first notifications (so after a message it will no longer work) also the dialer will work when it wants too I've had like 3 instance now were the phone will stay stuck on the dot view look even if I open the flap... I've Uninstalled it and reinstalled same issue
Any suggestions???
New version is out:
Major features:
Custom gradient support, pick the top and bottom colors from the settings app. Non scrolling text now uses this gradient.
Torch feature, either using gestures or menu items
For everything else, see the change log on Xposed.
Reboot immediately after installation.

If it sticks on the screen, that's actually a crash, I'd need a logcat to debug that, but you need to use adb to get that.
The new version, however, has some bug fixes that will should reduce (or prevent) crashes. Try seeing if it still happens there.

Ok Google Detection on Lockscreen/sleep

So for the life of me I can't figure out how to get Ok Google to work while my device is locked/sleep mode. I have trusted voice enabled and have it enabled at anytime but while its locked and I say "ok google" the edge lightning will light up and I will hear a bleep saying that it is detected but it won't unlock the phone so If i say "ok google navigate home" itll just be stuck on the lock screen and I will have to unlock my phone for it to start navigating.

I eventually found that in Edge Lighting
i had enabled Google to light up.
I switched Google off in Edge lighting, no issues since then.
Alternatively
just test OK Google by switching Edge lighting completely off.
Tried switching it off but still no luck. Do you have all your apps enabled for edge lightning or did you manually select which ones you wanted?

I eventually got " bored " with edge lighting and switch it off .
I guess the novelty of using Edge Lighting wore off ?
Before ( when i solved my issue ) i only switched Google(Edge lighting ) off and had one or 2 other
apps enable .
Also i recreated this scenario , of
OK Google (Google Edge lighting enabled )working, but Edge lighting preventing it from showing .
Over and over and had same/similar results .
If you read my post (in my thread )
you would see that i had exact similar issue with OK Google
working, but did not wake up .Only Edge lighting lit up etc.
However i must add , that i never use any form of lock screen
My phone is in a cover/ pouch ,so i'm not worried that it will accidentally wake up.
In hindsight it seems logic ( to me ) that "something" /app , in Edge lighting , was interfering ..?
Good luck
Make sure you aren't running in a power saving mode. It only works for me when they are turned off.
Also check that you have done the voice training in the Google app settings.
Hmm I turned off edge lightning and still appears to not unlock the phone. I also removed my passcode but that didnt solve the problem either.

In hindsight it seems logic ( to me ) that "something" /app , in Edge lighting , was interfering ..?
Good luck

try this
settings --> lock screen and security --> smart lock (will prompt you for your pin/pattern, must have security enabled for this to work) --> trusted voice
enable the following
say "ok google" any time
trusted voice
edit: noticed you have this already enabled, my bad
long shot but you can try (though i have a sneaky suspicion that this is just another name for trusted voice)
settings --> google --> search --> (google assistant) settings --> phone
see if the access and unlock is enabled
Strange theres no Unlock selection in the Phone settings (google assistant)

Solved it. Anyone else who is experiencing this issue you have to clear the cache in your google app
Nevermind I got the right settings to showup like someone previously mentioned but the ok google just detects from lockscreen not actually unlocking it. Any ideas?

You actually need security on and have smartlock allow trusted voice
"Ok Google" with AOD on GalaxyNote8. Repost no solution for 2 months now
I have ok google working from the lockscreen if AOD is turned off but is there anyway for ok google to detect with AOD on? I have all my settings turned on so its clearly a samsung issue and I can't figure out how to set it up https://imgur.com/Q9sxXnA

This worked for me just now. Go to Note 8 settings, then app manager, then Google, then storage, clear cache.
I've tried every fix in this thread and I'm having the same issue... this is sort of ridiculous that such a simple thing won't work. I have AOD off, edge lighting off, clear Google cache, retrained the voice model, nothing... I noticed that settings > security > smart lock is blank... this even still occurs after factory reset
That's really weird
For me it always works. Even with AOD on and while sitting in my pocket.
I'm on Oreo right now, but it also worked on N for me

[HELP] Launch app on security lock screen

How launch app when screen is off and security lock? (I want the radio to wake me up) I try: 1. Secure settings --> Configuration:Screen & Keyboard Light On (10sek) 2. Wait 1sek 3. Show Scene --> Name: Popup ,Display As: Activity 4. launch App: "(in my case is "eskaGO" This task try launch this app but can't launch to the end. When Task is end nothing happened. But when I manually unlock screen and see what app work in background I see this app. It's look like this task try launche app but can't launch it to the end.
I try too with AutoLunch but is this same.
Can anybody help??

This not solves the problem. I don't need this only in home. I a lot travelling.
I try with secureTask plugin with off and on keyguard but this disable all securelock.
Well it sounds like the app just can't launch over the keyguard, so the task can't complete till the phone is unlocked. If you're comfortable with it, you can change the timeout (time it takes for the lock to be activated) to a really high number before you go to sleep, then after the app wakes you up, have it changed back to normal.
Thanks for solution but this not solve the problem. In Your idea every day before I go to sleep (when I activate alarm) I should count how many time screen should be unlock. I not everyday wake on this same time or it's time when I stay 1-2 weeks in this same place and wake up every day in this same time.
Every time when I set alarm I must count and set unlock screen Is not good idea.
Maybe somone else have Idea how to launch it?

which counting are you talking about? I think he meant setting the grace time of lock screen to something like 7*24 hours, that way even if screen is off, you don't really engage the lock.
This could be a security drawback and might affect your Moto display/Samsung Always screen on function if you have them.
OK maybe I something wrong understand.
Maybe You can write how I should configure this task? It will be very helpful to me
Now in task profile I set time to start and end my alarm task.

When the screen is turned off, it takes time to activate the keyguard/lock. Usually it's set to 1 second or less, so as soon as the display is off, the lockscreen is on. This can be changed (and in fact this is what Smart Lock does) so it won't activate as fast. Smart lock won't work in your conditions, so we can use Tasker plugins.
You need to get the plugin Secure Task if you are not rooted, Secure Settings if you are. Secure Task needs permissions granted in ADB, but the Help will explain the process.
Once you have it working, you can add the "secure settings" action for lockscreen timeout (see screenshots, it may be called something different on your device.)
There's a read action as well as write, you should read the initial value before changing it, save it, and restore it after the alarm goes off.
(In the Secure Settings plugin it's called Device Settings but other than that similar.)
Thanks for this
Now I undarstand that:
I have other profile where is task what will launch my app and where I set time to start this profile.
If I want that profile work - app launch correctly - I must before I go sleep launch other task (this what You wrote) what don't secure lock my screen.
Right? Did I understood correctly?
Yes, if you have a sleep profile, or if not, set it to activate at 2230 or whenever your bedtime is. The task will simply be Secure Task - secure settings - Read secure lockscreen_timeout (or whatever your device shows), so you can have a global variable of the typical timeout. Then Write secure lockscreen_timeout 99999999, as I posted in the screen shots.
And then have your wake up task activate at 7 or whenever, and then redo the lock timeout to the saved variable.
Ok,
But for example:
1. If I set this task to start 23:30 but since 23:10 i will not touch my phone this not work because screen still wil be secure lock ?
2. If I set this task to start earlier for ex. 21:00. On this time my phone is not protect if some one stole it and any one who get my phone will be have full access. Not always in this same time I will in the home.
Idea to solve my problem is good maybe someone else will need it.
For me is not good
It's not solve my problem
Maybe somone else have any idea how I can launch app when screen is secure lock

I don't know what happened because to March everything working in my phone. In March I musted do factory reset and launch app in secure screen stoped working ;/
Earlier I use to tasker autoinput plugin and was working , now it write that autoinput can't unlock screen :|
So maybe something was changed/app had update and to launch app in secure screen now is other plugin
hmm that's weird. You must have done/changed something. I don't think any app, especially Tasker has changed anything since then.

I know that that is weird. But I don't know what happened because I done nothing special. Just made a task and profile and that was working. Earlier when I changed Rom and restore task everthing work good. Now stop working and I dont know why :|
Better... When this stop working I had try allone and try searching solution.
I made task like this:
1. Secure Settings - Configuration: Screen & Keyboard Light 10sek
2. Status Bar Set Expanded
3. Launch App: eskaGO
4. Wait 10 sek
5. Autoinput Action - Configuration Type: Text Value: Tasker
6. Autoinput Global Action - Configuration Action: Home
And this WORKED! it worked but every second time. Exactly the second time.
Because I thinked that is problem with my phone I made factory reset one more time and this it stopped working completely.
So I don't want belive that so powerful app like Tasker where is so much plugin and a lot of people who very good know this aplication that no one find solution for this.
Sorry I still don't understand your explanation...
If I have it right, you are trying to make an alarm clock out of the radio app.
Here is what I did to implement this idea:
trigger:
- display off
task:
launch app: notepad
alert: beep
result:
as soon as the screen turns off, I heard the beep. When I turned on the screen, I saw notepad app in the foreground.
requirement:
you will need to add something to trigger this during screen off. That extra condition should not turn on the screen. If it does, you should re-consider this whole condition.
The fact that notepad is running in foreground after unlocking means that the task was carried out as intended. If you can run the radio app, the playing should be turned on automatically the moment the app starts, or error you will have radio app running without actually doing anything.
if all these fail, please post a screenshot of your profile, task and log.
good luck!
How about using Appcloner for this? You clone the app and give it the capability to run on to of the lock screen. That's it. Good luck.

Stuck on "You're using full screen mode", swiping up does nothing

Just got an S8. When I go full screen, I get this overlay. I can't get rid of it. Nothing wrong with my touchscreen, swiping up works everywhere else, just not in full screen mode.

You're using full screen mode. The home, back and recents buttons are hidden to minimize visual distractions and to prevent you from leaving the app accidentally.
However you're holding your phone the buttons will always be located next to the charging port. When your phone is rotated counterclockwise, swipe left from the edge of the screen as shown by the arrow.
This is the note 8 section, you say you are using a S8, but, it seems that the full screen message you are getting is related to the app you are using, not the device itself

Sorry, just posted it there at S8.
Thanks for your help. The full screen issue actually occurs wherever and whenever I go full screen. It's quite frustrating because I basically can't watch anything without this annoying overlay. I only found one other person who apparently fixed it, and his solution didn't work for me. I wiped the cache, restarted multiple times, toggled off then on full screen apps. To no avail.
Ok, maybe some app you use that has the inmersive function is keeping it even when not in use? Again, the message you are getting does not look like a system one
That's the tool tip you get when you choose to autohide through navbar in Oreo. But swiping up on the arrow is supposed to take you to the next tip in the little mini tutorial. If that's not working, then something is booked. Maybe a factory reset.

I reset it from the settings and also the "wipe cache/data" option. Didn't fix it, unfortunately. I also went to settings and disabled all apps (including system's) that can appear on top of others, and can change settings. When I turned on "Show touches", I can see that the touch works in that region. And I also did that touch screen test and I could fill in green all the spots there too. It's so frustrating, I can't watch anything or play a game without this stupid overlay.
I've been just thinking of waiting for Pie to come, maybe this thing will go away. But I don't know how I can seek help for this.

Nope, just plain standard mode TouchWiz. What actually ended up happening is I called Samsung. Apparently they can remote control with a mouse, so they simply swiped from their side and, boom, the message went away. So it looks like there's something on my side preventing swipes from the charging port. It's strange because I still sometimes get responses when I touch on the bottom edge; I can actually press on the navigation bar buttons and they work fine, but swiping doesn't work from that area. So now, when I'm watching a video, I'm forced to swipe the status bar down to show the navigation bar, instead of from the charging port. Also, when I go to the Notes app and begin drawing, I can see the line tracing until it reaches the bottom edge, where it just stops even when there is more space. I know that there is a crack on the bottom left. Maybe I need to replace the screen or, possibly, the digitizer.
Maybe this is a first time you are using fullscreen mode with app have function hide navbar (not using full touch gestures in stock rom).
Solution
Just disable funtion hide navbar in your third app
When you are open app full screen like youfube, this warning will appear and you just press button Got It. It will show anymore.
Then, reactive hide navbar.
Hi, I have the same problem. Any solution ?
I had this problem and fixed it by opening a YouTube video full screen. The YouTube app does allow you get rid of the message while most other apps I've tried won't.
Finally solved it by swiping from the arrow side and hit the word OK
Hive got +1 nord 2003 phone. İve got cubasis with a missing right side buttons in that. So got to the menu found screen optiin for the front camera. İts got options because the camera has a place on the screen . So that menu follows about the screen should act how for the front camera if disturbs you.
