Just got an S8. When I go full screen, I get this overlay. I can't get rid of it. Nothing wrong with my touchscreen, swiping up works everywhere else, just not in full screen mode.

You're using full screen mode. The home, back and recents buttons are hidden to minimize visual distractions and to prevent you from leaving the app accidentally.
However you're holding your phone the buttons will always be located next to the charging port. When your phone is rotated counterclockwise, swipe left from the edge of the screen as shown by the arrow.
This is the note 8 section, you say you are using a S8, but, it seems that the full screen message you are getting is related to the app you are using, not the device itself

Sorry, just posted it there at S8.
Thanks for your help. The full screen issue actually occurs wherever and whenever I go full screen. It's quite frustrating because I basically can't watch anything without this annoying overlay. I only found one other person who apparently fixed it, and his solution didn't work for me. I wiped the cache, restarted multiple times, toggled off then on full screen apps. To no avail.
Ok, maybe some app you use that has the inmersive function is keeping it even when not in use? Again, the message you are getting does not look like a system one
That's the tool tip you get when you choose to autohide through navbar in Oreo. But swiping up on the arrow is supposed to take you to the next tip in the little mini tutorial. If that's not working, then something is booked. Maybe a factory reset.

I reset it from the settings and also the "wipe cache/data" option. Didn't fix it, unfortunately. I also went to settings and disabled all apps (including system's) that can appear on top of others, and can change settings. When I turned on "Show touches", I can see that the touch works in that region. And I also did that touch screen test and I could fill in green all the spots there too. It's so frustrating, I can't watch anything or play a game without this stupid overlay.
I've been just thinking of waiting for Pie to come, maybe this thing will go away. But I don't know how I can seek help for this.

Nope, just plain standard mode TouchWiz. What actually ended up happening is I called Samsung. Apparently they can remote control with a mouse, so they simply swiped from their side and, boom, the message went away. So it looks like there's something on my side preventing swipes from the charging port. It's strange because I still sometimes get responses when I touch on the bottom edge; I can actually press on the navigation bar buttons and they work fine, but swiping doesn't work from that area. So now, when I'm watching a video, I'm forced to swipe the status bar down to show the navigation bar, instead of from the charging port. Also, when I go to the Notes app and begin drawing, I can see the line tracing until it reaches the bottom edge, where it just stops even when there is more space. I know that there is a crack on the bottom left. Maybe I need to replace the screen or, possibly, the digitizer.
Maybe this is a first time you are using fullscreen mode with app have function hide navbar (not using full touch gestures in stock rom).
Solution
Just disable funtion hide navbar in your third app
When you are open app full screen like youfube, this warning will appear and you just press button Got It. It will show anymore.
Then, reactive hide navbar.
Hi, I have the same problem. Any solution ?
I had this problem and fixed it by opening a YouTube video full screen. The YouTube app does allow you get rid of the message while most other apps I've tried won't.
Finally solved it by swiping from the arrow side and hit the word OK
Hive got +1 nord 2003 phone. İve got cubasis with a missing right side buttons in that. So got to the menu found screen optiin for the front camera. İts got options because the camera has a place on the screen . So that menu follows about the screen should act how for the front camera if disturbs you. Then choose the app and select dont hide its solved

I haven't tested it out yet but this caught my eye... put widgets on your lockscreen like Touiteur or Mixzing... etc...
For only 99 cents!
http://androinica.com/2010/07/16/wa...ckscreen-get-widget-locker-video-app-reviews/
I've now tested it a little more... You can also add shortcuts and change the style of the lock...
It does show the stock lockscreen for a second sometimes before it loads up and sometimes hangs before unlocking... but like mixedlemon said below... its a lot better than Lockbot... and does widgets!
I'm using xtrROM3.0.3 @ 748mhz
Saw this, it looks pretty sweet. Don't have any cash on my card at the moment though, so I can't try it out.
This is awesome, it's working great.
Nice find!
I saw this app the other day. Apparently, the developer is going to be releasing a new verison within the next week which will include different slider styles as well as sliders that can have different functions. Seems pretty sweet. I just need to know if there's any lag when in use.

i actually have noticed some lag every now and then... still trying to decide whether it bothers me enought to return it or just keep it... its only a buck i guess....

You can see it showing the stock lockscreen for a fraction of a second sometimes, but it has a nice fade effect to the widgets, so it isn't too obtrusive.
Certainly not as bad as lockbot was
Hope this helps

After viewing your video, I decided to give it a go. It seemed pretty fast when I used it (xtrROM 2.1/OC-710mhz), however, I really couldn't think of which widgets to put on it haha Also, it seemed to interfere with the Handcent sms popup feature. Anyway, thanks again for the video! Very in-depth...
Thanks! I'm glad I could help.
I've never really used handcent, what are the advantages of its SMS popup over, say, putting a messenger widget on your lockscreen?

I like it because it pops up over the lockscreen, but if you don't access it within the normal screen timeout (I think), it goes behind the lockscreen. The popup allows you to delete the message or do a quick or voice reply. You can have it set to mark the message as read if you close the popup, but if you press the back button on the Eris itself, handcent still shows the message as unread, which I find useful if I want to do something else but still have that reminder in my notification bar. I also have my Eris set up to go to the compose screen with a long click on the search button.
Sorry if this is confusing. It's just my personal preference.
downloaded this morning and really like it. Very flexible. anyone notice any performance or lag issues since install? mine seems to be solid so far.

Yes, I have as well. I got curious about what could be causing that. In addition, I've noticed that often when I unlock, my Pure Calendar widget shows no events. Occasionally, even LP itself has to redraw all the homescreens, which takes at least 5 seconds. First, I tried changing the LP memory settings to "medium." No effect. Then, however, I thought that maybe the "Helper" app that the developer suggests we use as our home app, has something to do with it. So, I decided to change the default home back to LauncherPro. According to the dev, there is some sore of 5 second delay when pressing the "Home" button on the device if the helper app is not set as the default home. I have found that contrary to what he has said, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I can unlock via my custom sliders AND the Home button, and there is virtually NO detectable delay compared to using it with the helper app as the default home.
Observations after resetting LP as the default home:
-- No disappearing events in Pure Calendar (scrolling enabled)
-- No redraw on exiting lockscreen into homescreens
-- WidgetLocker STILL replaces stock lockscreen at boot
-- Battery life versus helper app as default home: I used the phone for several calls (one as long as 26min), texts, and occasional data, and was able to squeeze around 17 hours out of it. This seems to be better than using the Helper app as the default home.
-- If you enter WidgetLocker from your app menu, News/Weather widget will cease rotating among news items. However, if you reboot and let WidgetLocker replaced the standard lockscreen by itself, it will act like normal.
My setup:
-- XtrROM 3.0.3
-- No OC
-- Nexus One lockscreen patch
-- LauncherPro 0.7.1.0
-- WidgetLocker notification bar icon disabled
Sorry if this was long-winded and confusing. I hope this helps anyone on the fence about buying this app or those on LP or with Pure Calendar who are experiencing similar problems. After these tweaks, I can now say I'm glad I paid for this app!
TabletBar Hider
Want to use your honeycomb tablet in *true* fullscreen, without that pesky system bar in the way? Now you can! (REQUIRES ROOT!)
This app allows you to hide the system bar in landscape mode, where it gets in the way the most. Then, if you need to access it to leave the app, just rotate your tablet to portrait and the bar appears. When you're done, rotate it back to landscape and the bar disappears again. You can go back to the app and end that behavior at any time.
There is currently an issue with apps that prevent rotation - you may get stuck in them! But worst case, you can always reboot and everything goes back to normal. I will work on a fix for that if people like the app!
I am new to Android app development so please let me know if there are any issues! I have created a free demo version that you can run to verify that the app will properly hide and restore the system bar on your tablet. I have tested this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but not others yet! So please make sure to try the demo first.
Note that the demo is only for verifying that the app can kill and restore the system bar. It does not feature the automatic rotation service that the full version contains.

Well thought! tested the demo and working well on arabic rom p7510jpkg5. Though expected demo to be a little more useful beyond just hiding and restoring the bottom bar. Couldn't revert to home screen after applying the tweak. The full version could have been free.
well done.
It's useful...thanks
Works great on my Xoom but some time in future development it would be nice to have the option of a transparent status bar too.
Bought it in hopes that you'll be further developing it. Further development on this that could really turn heads would be access to the full apps list with the ability to check mark which ones you want the taskbar hider to work with (and more importantly, which ones you don't).
Great idea. Looking forward to where this might go.
Please consider making it work with multitouch gestures.
I have my tablet set to always stay in Landscape mode (unless an app forces me into portrait mode). So the current way of hiding and restoring the status bar is a PITA.
What you could (should) do is this.
Two finger swipe down off of the screen = Hide status bar.
Two finger swipe up onto the screen = Restore status bar.
Does that make sense?
It's a great start!

It would be great if it would work with wizz or have like a wiz type bar where i can click bottom middle during any app and bring up home and back and multi task and then even better like wizz i can add my own!
edit:

O well, guess its good for specific apps although I would really like to see it as a more accessible thing like wizzbar

Yes, I know its a simple app and it could be free, but this is kind of an experiment for me to see if I can make money writing apps. It also will provide the encouragement I need to keep developing it. And yeah, the demo is just to make sure people don't get stuck buying the paid app and have it not work. Its not really intended to be useful.

Actually I was originally going to hook into the volume buttons, and have one hide it and one restore it, but I found that background services don't have access to the volume buttons. Orientation was less ideal, but It was something I could hook into from the background. I'm not sure if background services can see the gestures, but I will look into it! One thing I know I can do is look at the accelerometer instead of the orientation. That way even if you're locked, you can still rotate to show the bar. Of course.. then its sideways, and that's weird. But thanks for the words of encouragement as well!

Ooh, yeah the app kills the process that contains the notifications, so that is one area where it won't work. Also, I said this above but I'm not sure if I can see gestures from a background process. But I will look into it for sure! That would definitely be better.
I also realized that if I implement the suggestion above about selecting which apps to disable my app on, I could have it also disabled on the home screen. That would be nice.
-Taylor
So, I just realized that the Market app doesn't allow rotation, and it can appear that you're stuck. I will definitely have to add a way to filter which apps this is enabled for.
For the meantime, you're not actually stuck in Market. Just use the menu on the top right and go to "Contact us" and it will open the browser.
Silly, for sure. I'll try to add the fix soon. Probably not till the weekend though.

Awesome Work!
I have Wavelauncher installed and it's a good workaround. If I'm in an app that won't rotate I just swipe for Wavelaunch. It can show recent apps and user defined apps. If the app you want isn't listed, just pick one that does portrait to get the system bar back. If this app can come up there must be a way for you to do a swipe gesture to bring the bar back,
Anyway, thanks for this app! Love watching movies without the bar at the bottom!

I actually found virtual button bar in the market, works like a dream. Lovin the fullscreen now!

A nice feature would be:
Have the system bar timeout and hide itself after a set time amount of inactivity. Say... if you do not touch anything that has to do with the system bar for a whole minute, it will automatically hide itself. Swiping up could bring it back up or something like that. Would be extremely useful. Kinda like how Windows has the auto hide taskbar feature to give more screen space.
Honestly, I think auto hiding the system bar should be something Google should cook up and bring natively to the Honeycomb tablets. It makes sense to do that if you think about it. I know that the icons and such will dim down to white dots after a few seconds while using certain parts of the system apps, but something like auto hiding the entire system bar altogether will be far superior.
I still like the idea of checking off the apps this is allowed to work in on a list. I imagine that's a lot of work.
Perhaps in the mean time, you could implement a hidden button that could toggle the taskbar by tapping in the extreme upper right or left corner. That (I imagine) should be a lot simpler to do for the time being.
I wouldn't hesitate to spend $2.00-2.50 on the finished app.
I hope you could get it to work with the international 3G Xoom. MZ601
Hey guys,
Man, I don't get what the deal is with forums *not* e-mailing me even though I have notifications enabled.
But yeah, I have been brainstorming ways to make this work better. The simplest idea, and what I will try to enable this weekend, is shaking the tablet to toggle the bar.
Hooking into rotation was the simplest thing and I just wanted to get off the ground and see if people liked it. Clearly you guys do (thanks!) so I gotta make this app easier to use.
I looked up how to do swiping, and apparently background apps are not supposed to have access to touch events, for security (imagine if an app secretly waited till your banking app was running and then watched locations pressed on the screen when you typed your password). So people seem to think apps that run in the background and read swipes are using some kind of unsupported security holes, and my initial search only found people not willing to talk about it. Still, I haven't spent much time on it yet, busy week!
But I will look at it this weekend and see what I can do to improve it. I also gotta shoot a youtube videos as I have what feels like a high rate of returns - I think it would be really helpful if people saw how it worked before downloading.
And I finally got a review, yay! Of course if you have any opinions on the app I'd love a review!

Does it not? Is your tablet rooted? This app cannot work without root, unfortunately.
Let me rephrase it. According to the market, your app is not compatible with my MZ601. When i do a search through the market it doesn't come up in the list. I'm curious... With the knock-knock feature, why do you need this? If you're at your homescreen to press a widget, presumably you can knock-knock to turn the screen off too? Actually I think knock knock on the status bar anywhere and the screen turns off...
Is it because your knock-knock locks the screen? Because that can be disabled as well.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or alternatives?
Maybe the app has changed since this thread was started?

Main reason being that i still want to keep the lock code... i just dont want to have to keep inputting it everytime i need my phone. Often, i'm having a convo and will be answering messages and will literally pick up/put down my phone 5 times a minute so i'd like to employ the time system default lock delay.
Any other ideas? :

I'm in the same situation with my G3, did you ever find a solution?
What about settings>security >screen lock >none? This is what I did and it works great ?

Try setting up Lock timer and unchecking power button locks instantly in lock screen settings (I don't know exact translations, sorry).
I have timer set to 30 seconds so if I turn screen off and immediately recall I wanted to do something, screen is not locked yet.
These settings should be available on every Android device, I was using it even on my old Nexus S. I only noticed on G2 that if I'm using knock code, screen can't be turned back on using simple double tap even within timer interval and I have to use knock code. But power button asks for code only after timer interval.
Smart Unlock
Hey. Sounds like you need the app 'Smart Unlock' from the Play Store. It's been developed by some off the top guys from XDA.
It works by turning off the need to enter the lock screen pin/pattern when you're connected to a safe or known Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth device.
For example when you're at home just tell smart unlock that it can trust your WiFi network and BAM! Never need to enter the unlock pin again once connected to that network. It will bypass it completely and just present you with your home screen. Sounds exactly what you're looking for ?

It's not quite the same either. Because it still requires you to be connected to a wifi network or bt device and it does not work on the go, but more of a area based situation.
I am also still looking for an app that can turn off screen without locking the device, essentially mimicking the power button entirely. I want to leave in place the locking ability of the OS after 15 seconds-30 minutes.
I am looking for the same functionality. Every app I tried manages to go and lock the screen when it turns off. I was using CM roms for a while where we can add a shortcut that puts the display to sleep without changing the lock settings. This mimics the power button behavior. So far no luck with finding an equivalent app from play store
I found this: "Screen Off" by an awesome developer Konreu. Please remember to send him thanks and 5 star ratings.
http://android.konreu.com/applications/screen-off/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.konreu.android.screenoff
It mimics the power button almost exactly without requiring root. Because of Android limitations, it takes about a second for the screen to go off.
It's hard to believe that an app that does such a simple thing as turning off the screen can't be found.
I have tried a dozen apps and they all turn off the screen AND lock. I'm looking for an app that does just what the op said; turn off the screen and follow android's lock settings (lock delay, etc).
We're almost there with the app that Sepero suggested, but the screen takes a second or two to shut off because there' is an animation you have to choose from. You can't just straight shut off the screen.

I found workaround, working good for me. But you'll need Tasker and root for this:
— create task with action "Run Shell",
— insert command "input keyevent 26" and set checkbox "Use Root"
This command emulate a power button press.
It works good, but not too fast for me (it have about 0.5-1 sec delay), so I add vibration and screen dimming for immediate reaction.
Here is description of this task:
A1: Vibrate [ Time:60 ]
A2: Variable Set [ Name:%prev_brightness To:%BRIGHT ]
A3: Display Brightness [ Level:0 ]
A4: Run Shell [ Command:input keyevent 26 ]
A5: Display Brightness [ Level:%prev_brightness ]
I can export this task in standalone apk, if somebody need it.
Ahhh brilliant! Thanks BusinessSausage.
I have already bought Tasker a while ago on my S5 but never used it. I knew it would come in handy one day. Works perfectly on my S6, without the delay you've mentionned. Simply using "input keyevent 26" turns the screen off right away and doesn't lock it.

Dot View Mods is a collection of modifications for the HTC One (M8)'s Dot View cover.
This module requires an unlock key for most features: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.dotviewmodsforhtcmateunlockkey
Features include:
Control your music playback and see what's playing right from the Dot View cover.
Add gestures to the case and customise them.
See notifications at a glance, with support for all Android notifications. (enable the listener in Settings -> Security -> Notifications access)
* See the full notification when it first comes in: your notifications scroll across the screen.
Quick dial contacts right from the cover, with support for up to 9 shortcuts spread across 3 pages.
Don't have a contact and still want to dial them quickly? Open up a full dialer right from the cover.
And if you're bored:
Play a quick game of Snake, retro-style!
Compatibility:
This module was coded with the stock DotMatrix application set to 480DPI, the developer cannot guarantee it'll work fine with other DPIs.
If you have other modifications installed, support cannot be guaranteed.
Usage:
Dialer:
Swipe up to call the number, swipe down to close the dialer. If no numbers are input, a swipe up redials the last person called.
Swipe from right to left to delete a number, tap and hold the numbers at the top to delete all.
A future update may add speed dial from the stock dialer.Snake:
Tap the HTC logo on your cover to pause the game, tap it again to save progress and quit the game.Shortcuts:
Swipe left and right to change between shortcut pages.
Great collection of m mods for the dot view. I bought the unlock key shortly after I installed it, great work.

Yep, I realised email was bad for this kind of stuff since a lot of it is repeated.
I'm done with exams, so there should be more updates now. I've already added a torch feature.

Awesome, looking forward to it!
I have a couple of suggestions:
- Is it possible to make it so that none of the apps are turned on by default for notifications? So that people have to add the ones they want rather than untick the rest that aren't really useful?
- Is it possible to disable gesture controls completely? so no menu or music control etc?
This module will be perfect for me if it is as close to stock as possible, with the addition of custom notifications of course
Anyway, keep up the awesome work :good:
Believe it! Play SNAKE at Dot View. also play song.
I'm having trouble with it actually wo4king for long periods it will stop displaying notifications after like the first notifications (so after a message it will no longer work) also the dialer will work when it wants too I've had like 3 instance now were the phone will stay stuck on the dot view look even if I open the flap... I've Uninstalled it and reinstalled same issue
Any suggestions???
New version is out:
Major features:
Custom gradient support, pick the top and bottom colors from the settings app. Non scrolling text now uses this gradient.
Torch feature, either using gestures or menu items
For everything else, see the change log on Xposed.
Reboot immediately after installation.

If it sticks on the screen, that's actually a crash, I'd need a logcat to debug that, but you need to use adb to get that.
The new version, however, has some bug fixes that will should reduce (or prevent) crashes. Try seeing if it still happens there.

You'll need to add it to the main menu in settings, same goes for the dialer.
Tapping the HTC logo exits the game.

I like this mod but they is still some stability issue.
It happen my phone can't unlock and stuck during using dot view play song.

I'm going to need a logcat filtered for AndroidRuntime. The reason the screen is stuck is because behind it is a dialog that says DotMatrix has stopped working and you'd need to click okay (which you can't).
But still, a crash is a crash and it needs to be fixed, so please, post a logcat

There are two methods to change your quick settings panel to remove the buttons: a build.prop edit or an edit to systemui.
Method 1:
Change
Code:
ro.product.name=zeroflte***
ro.product.device=zeroflte***
to
Code:
ro.product.name=zerofltevzw
ro.product.device=zerofltevzw
If the build.prop edit changes your data icons to VZW and you don't like it, simply add this line to your others.xml
Code:
<CscFeature_Framework_ReplaceDataTypeIconAsOpBrand>OYB</CscFeature_Framework_ReplaceDataTypeIconAsOpBrand>
Method 2:
Install a file at the end of the post.
v2 = deodexed, no bugs (should be working on an odexed rom, please test)
v1 = odexed and has a bug swiping notifications
stock = stock odexed
THIS FILE IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE G-920W8.
Because of the current limitations of TWRP I cannot force a device check.
I would not recommend flashing this file on any variant besides w8 unless you like SystemUI fcs

I did this on my own a week ago but found that notifications won't swipe away as easily. Very annoying. I wonder why it does that.
Sometimes you have to swipe more than once and instead of clearing it, it opens it.
Clear button usually works better.

Yeah, I just experienced that. Strange behavior indeed. I wonder if it has to do with the padding that was removed? Does it only happen on the first notification or can it happen on any notification?
I think I saw a user in the xtrestolite thread with the same issue. Perhaps something else needs to be changed - there's quite a few calls to the two buttons that I didn't need to touch. I can take a look again but it might not be for a few days

I don't use Quick Connect, and I don't know if it's actually used for screen mirroring... There is a screen mirroring quick toggle that you can choose to add to your favorite toggles if you click the edit button on the expanded status bar. Hopefully this negates the need for these buttons for you

I suspect this is related to the padding I squished to 0 to make this work. I found reference to the buttons in the qs layout which removed the buttons but left a gap the size of the buttons. If I can remove the gap instead of making it 0 height I have a feeling this bug will disappear
Another solution:
Edit your build.prop and change the line
Code:
ro.product.name=zerofltexx
to
Code:
ro.product.name=[COLOR="Red"]zerofltevzw[/COLOR]
The 2 buttons are gone and I don't have any problems with swiping away notifications. You will get the verizon 4G symbol though.
I'd love to remove the brightness bar as well - never change anything there anyways.
But I failed to recompile the systemUI.apk

You have to deodex and make a smali edit. There is some sort of no swipe zone that goes away when you software disable sfinder/q connect (ie hard code doing what it does for vzw devices)

Hooboy that 4g logo is an eye sore! Have you tried that mod? When I was on the 920T rom, the signal connection icons changed after I changed the csc xml files to my back up files, so ro.product.name can't be solely responsible for the icons
Another thought, I wonder if verizon has disabled the buttons with a csc code... hmm. I don't know if there's any way we could cross check and compare though because I believe the csc folder is hidden underneath root access .
Finally, this will help you disable the brightness slider. The top post on page 2 has the same mod done with an adb command
So, just to follow up, i changed my build.prop to the vzw one and my signal icons didn't change. Ideally I'd like for my build.prop to have the correct device listed though, so I'm using this as a temporary work around until I can better figure out this issue.
Ideally I will be able to find the code responsible or if necessary deodex.
The fact that it can be altered merely by changing the device name is really making me think there is a csc code responsible for this or there is something in system ui that says if device ~ Vzw then use this layout.... The edit button in the quick settings changed to a pencil as well

Moded systemui to use the standard icons when using verizon build.prop tweaks, and removed the icons when WiFi connected.
This is for 920I, can't speak for other variants.
Edit: Not recommended for other variants.. most likely it will fc.
