A quick Google search found this for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roysolberg.android.datacounter
You can always view data use through "Settings -> More... -> Data usage" as well, of course, though that's obviously less convenient.

I know about that kind of program, I'm talking about something that actually interfaces with Sprint and tells me the numbers Sprint sees... That's what the Verizon app did and it was a godsend coz I change Roma like candy and they don't share with one another how much data they've used

Oh ok, I get it. In that case, I don't think so. You can use Sprint Zone to check data usage, but it's slow and painful and they break it up into 3G and 4G data usage for unknown reasons, without giving you a grand total, so you have to do math... weird!
EDIT: It's actually much faster to just send a text message to 1311 with the single word "usage" and get an instant reply showing minutes and data used, though it still breaks out 3G and 4G without a total... Which seems pretty stupid, because why should I care how much of my data was 3G or 4G (other than to remind me how little 4G access I actually get even though I'm always in areas that are allegedly 4G according to Sprint's coverage maps)?

Data Watch??

Just quick question, im currently running Team Phoenix Ultimate, on a Rogers Captivate.
I just recieved a call from Rogers telling me that in the past 3 days, ive used 190mb of data. Meanwhile I haven't used the Browser, or even youtube, I generally never bother anyway, ive never used more than 250mb-300mb.
Is there an app/way to know how much data each individual app is using.
( i have beautiful widgets set to every 3hr update, i have facebook to never update, thats the 2 i can think that may use more otherwise, everything pretty standard.
Any thoughts, thanks guys in advance
190mb sounds about the size of a rom... Didn't happen to download one with data, did you?
No sorry, i just found a thread which said to dial Dial *#*#4636#*#*
i looked at battery usuage then network usage, i found something labelled only as "0" has been using alot, when i clicked on it, i got a force close??
I use a free app called ZDbox. You can get it from the market. You can click under 2g/3g data and under more detail it will break down what has been used by each app you have.
How big is your data plan? I have never been called by rogers and there have been times I've used more data than than. Sometimes near the end of my billing period when I still have a gig left I will download roms or what not to use up my data lol. I'm on a 2gb plan

That is the ROM I developed and I wish I could help out but nothing with the ROM will do that. If you happen to find out what is causing it please either reply in this thread or PM me.
ill give that a try, thankyou, Im only on a 500mb, but starting the 15th of may, im getting a 6gb plan.
Okay that makes sense if you have a small data plan like that. I guess its a courtesy thing since you used a huge chunk of your plan in only 3 days. So much better than the old rogers. A guy at work used his blackberry to tether 4 years ago and had a 1500 dollar bill. Lol
Adamholden, glad to see you still around the captivate forums: )
Hey there Adam i love the ROM!!
Just to let you know, I shouldnt have mentioned the ROM, I wasnt trying to blame anything on it, i know for sure its either something Im doing wrong, or Rogers bending me over and giving it to me hard as usual
If i figure it out ill let you know
Did you ever use speed test? I noticed that it uses 6mb data per test.

Watchdog 3g? Oh wait that only tells you all usage. But I updates in realtime so you would see it rising and you could check what you were running...
3G Watchdog Pro does give you a data breakdown by app, but it's not especially accurate.
wife's iphone data usage spiked this month as well...she has never used over 200mb in a month...all the sudden on day 11 got text that she was nearing cap.
Checked data and she was at 170mb. An hour later she hadn't used ANY data.....we were at home and i can confirm her phone was connected to wifi...she uploaded a couple pictures to face book and i get another text...check data and its at 190mb.
I suggest you get Droidstats - It will read your data, minutes, texts and such (also very customizable, you can set your top 5/10.. what time not to count your minutes like night and weekend). Best widget I found so far for tracking

Lets neutralize the verizon 3G hotspot app!

Now that we have root and are happily removing bloatware, many of us are trying to find and remove that blasted 3G hotspot app that keeps coming up with whatever we choose to use!
If anyone knows how and where to find and at least freeze it, we would all be very appreciative :-D
It has something to do with the dhcpd service. I'm looking at the code to see if there's an "easy" way around it.
why don't you just follow the rules and hack the hotspot app?

You have to be careful with that app in terms of hacking it. Rumors say that Verizon knows when you are a hacked version and you could be charged, or violate certain parts of a contract.

I doubt that they can tell when you've hacked it without some sort of trickery that we're unaware of, but it is true that you violate part of your contract and get charged extra if they find out.

I meant trickery as in some sort of magical method that can't be explained. We can be aware of it's presence, but not aware of how it works. We're not aware of either at the moment
If we hacked it but aren't using it, can verizon find out?

I think it would be extremely difficult for then because it replaces codes so that your connected device doesn't come up as an external device but as the phone still using its data...
Is that a yes or no to my question? Lol

Titanium Backup... buy it, FREEZE apps, do not rename, do not remove, do not uninstall... and watch what you do, several of them will cause never-ending force-closes if you're not careful.
Freezing apps removes the execute bit so the file remains, but the OS can't execute it.

Yah -- some are okay to uninstall, like the obvious ones (BlockBuster, Citrix, etc.) but some will break dialer/contacts, etc. like all the authenticators.
Yeah I broke my contacts, text messaging, and calendar. But that's okay. Because I never use them, and I use handcent for texting anyways

It's just safer to get rid of the Verizon Hotspot app. I fear that no matter what we try to do to it they can find out. Even without the app they can find out. If you have an exceptionally large amount of data usage, or a constant high data usage connection they will investigate it. They then will monitor your data usage and start to throttle you, ping you and otherwise annoy you. Verizon just disables your ability to use your data. AT&T warns you twice and then charges you.
Just keep it under 15gbs a month. I went to 18 and they throttled me.

[Q] Torrent Downloads HTC

Hey guys I have a small issue I am hoping you can help me with
I have recently purchased the HTC one on contract with 3, and have unlimited data on 3.9G
I want to use these speeds to download torrents, because my phone internet speed is faster that my home speeds
I have downloaded the Utorrent app, but when I open the app while on 3G connection, my phone is picking up Utorrent as a tethering app, and will stop my data connection.
is there any apps that you guys know of that will allow me to download torrents to my phone, that wont activate the tethering.
Thanks
wrong section
try Swarm https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ws.munday.swarm&hl=en
Use tTorrent.
You can set it to WiFi only or WiFi and data connection.
I use uTorrent frequently on both data and wifi, (O2 network) and have no problems myself. Sure it's the phone and not your provider shutting off your data?

It's your network provider Three. They don't allow torrenting, and only tethering on an advanced plan.

No, Three can see exactly what servers you are trying to connect to. You shouldn't torrent on mobile data as it reduces speeds for everyone else :/

I would download in the house but my internet speeds suck, and im in work all day.
and where I work most people are on benefits, so my taxes contribute to the money they use to pay for their phone contracts. (or they are using EE's 4G)
So im not to bothered if their speeds get slowed down because of me.

[Q] Tethering/Hotspot

okay, so I've scoured the interwebs and the forums and have found absolutely nothing on this subject. Coming from the one max, this was a day one mod/hack, so I'm surprised to not see it done at all on the nexus. Now I've already done the build.prop edits and even found one thing on apn edits, but nothing worked. So does anyone know how to get this working? Or can possibly point me in the right direction
Search sqlite.
Is there a more permanent solution to enable unlimited tethering if you already have unlimited data? All k could find where work grounds for 4.4 kitkat not lollipop. I added in the provision to my build prop however I want to use my phone as a hotspot when I go on trips to avoid using public WiFi for my laptop
This works on nexus 5 and 6

So it in fact allows unlimited tethering on T-Mobile? Do you have to set it every time you reboot or is it a set ams forget kind of edit.

Where can you check your tethering usage on T-Mobiles site? I only see data used out of unlimited. I literally just switched last night from the death star so its all new to me. I've already used 3.5gb of LTE in less than 24 hours

Even if you have unlimited, you can "only" tether 5gb. That's why I was asking about making the tethering unlimited. I use my laptop at my school and our universities WiFi is terrible.

Go here from your phone if you are on T-Mobile: http://ma.web2go.com/

I would pay

Good money for a way to force this phone to roam. I spend a lot of time in a remote area with just enough sprint signal to cause my phone to hunt and run the battery down. I just want to be able to make a call in an emergency.
I know all about using qpst or similar to swap prl. Too much hassle. I've decompiled several of the apps on the phone but, can't find the part of the code for system select to see if it's possible to add a roam only option.
It was easier on HTC phones as it just required a few lines of code added to phone app.
I hope some Dev with the skills will take a look at this. I am sure a lot of people would donate. The Internet is covered with post of people searching for a way to force roam.

Yeah, I own the App. Won't work on lollipop and i guess the Dev has quit updating it. The cell companies are a bunch of A-wipes for removing that feature. Looks like setting a limit on roaming calls would be enough for them. Damn phones are useless when hunting for a signal.
