My Moto X deleted ALL my pictures on my phone. Dont know how, but they did. They're ALL gone. I know they're probably gone forever, but I thought I'd ask if there's any recovery program?
I was iffy about buying a phone with no SDCard slot, and now I know I will NEVER do it again. I refuse to back my pictures up to the cloud because of hackers. I like to have them on physical memory. It didn't even take a month for me to regret buying this phone
Did it only delete your pictures and absolutely nothing else? It seems like moto voodoo

Maybe you got a rouge app or something. Have you tried browsing your folders using something like es file explorer? Maybe somehow the pictures folder has a period in front of it, that would make the folder invisible to Android.

There is a app to recover the lost pictures it's called diskdigger but you will need root

How does this app work? It seems impossible to recover truly deleted photos, unless its only finding the thumbnails or something. Data is data, at least I thought...

I really don't know since I do a backup of everything of pictures and videos I don't care so much if I do a factory reset or something goes wrong, never used this app but the info is here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger I hope you can recover your pictures

Pictures don't get deleted perse they get slotted for deletion when the memory is needed. That is how these recovery programs work. You just think there gone because the phone doesn't register them anymore.

Thats pretty interesting but makes good sense. Do you happen to know where on the SD card they would be stored?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I know they're in there somewhere, and that technically I could get them, but I'm not rooted and everything says I need to be. Any idea of places I could look for thumbnails or something?
I have to say, I was very wary of a phone with no SDCard slot when I bought this. And if I can help it, I will NEVER again buy another phone with no SD slot. Deleted unrecoverable pictures, low memory warnings, not enough space to keep videos or music I like to watch on planes when traveling, the list goes on. Nothing but problems that could all be solved with a tiny little slot
Sorry to say there is nowhere for you to look. After you delete them their invisible for lack of a better word. You could try a PC version to recover deleted pictures. After you down load the program it may let you choose where you want to retrieve them from. You could navigate to your phones SD card and give it a try.

You are correct in not being happy about the lack of a physical SD card. If you had one you could use a PC to retrieve the photos. I did it with an SD card from my camera by removing it and inserting it into my PC.

I was in class, pulled out my captivate, went to look at some pictures. They werent there. Got me curiois so I went into the file explorer to see what was up. My external sd no longer has any understandable files on it. All of my photos, music, videos ANYTHING are not there. It has all been replaced with gibberish, random letters, numbers and symbols. The only file still there is LOST.DIR, and it too is filled with nothing but numbers from 4 to 94xxx.
WHAT HAPPENED? Please offer some advice if you can. I had lots of very special pictures from deployment and my wedding on that card.
Im running Cog 2.2 beta 8.1, using oclf. The only two things really done to the phone.
Ive noticed over the last few days, recently installed apps would disappear, id download them again and the data/progress would still be there.
Please help of you can, can the files be recovered? What happened? How do I prevent it from happening again?

Sounds like your card is bad. Did you leave it in while flashing your phone? That can cause an issue.
If your PC has a card reader and you have an adapter for it you may be able to recover some of your stuff.

I was worried that may be the problem. Any suggestions on a good recovery program. Dont care if I have to pay, these files are priceless

I wish I knew. Do you have a card reader on your PC? I think you should be able to just view what is on it when inserted into your PC with an adapter, it should be visable as a drive, just browse it. I am not 100% certain of the process for restoration.

I cannot find any of my recently taken pictures on my Bionic. I recently moved all of my pictures to my external sd card on 2 separate occasions. But for some reason, after I took a picture today and tried to remove it from my internal storage, it wasn't there. I can find it in my gallery, but not in any file, anywhere. I tried searching using es file explorer and nothing. I am rooted on stock. Does anyone have any advice?

Have you tried importing the files to your computer? A lot of times it will tell you where they are stored whether it be an sd card or simply a random file folder....you can also change where you want images stored after taking a picture, let me know if this helps and if you have any trouble I'll be glad to help fix it.

If you see the picture in your gallery you should be able to select the picture and hit options. After that hit details and on the bottom it should show you the path to where the picture is saved to.
They were on my external sd I didn't notice them because all of my instagram pictures were at the end of the list, not my most recent pictures, lol. Thanks for the help.

Just curious, is there a way or an app, or a script or something to have the ability to just have screen shots, downloaded pics and what not to save to your external SD card by default? I usually have about 100+ that I have to manually move every time I flash a rom..

Just curious as to why you move them. Are you wiping internal storage when you flash?

No I don't wipe that, but it's my fearful OCD that my phone will just up and die and I will lose my SS's. I really hate using the "cloud". Don't trust that crap that much.
So use two clouds. It is very unlikely they will fail at the same time plus it will automatically synchronize with your pc. Dropbox gives 50 gig for new note users, google drive another couple gigs, same microsoft, Amazon, box, samsung cloud. SD card can fail too.

meh, it's not about the "horse" drinking water. It's is simply about seeing if there was something out there that would allow me to just have my screen shots and downloaded pics go directly to my SD card. It's my choice not to use the cloud. Personal reasons. Hence why I am here asking for some app or something.
Screw the cloud. I'm old Skool too. Now where's mg 5.25 inch floppy.

Hello everyone,
I have been having this problem for a few weeks now, and it has gotten to the point where I think something is SERIOUSLY wrong with my phone.
I have a 512gb UNLOCKED N960U1. Never rooted. I'm a little OCD with my app arrangement so i have every app on my phone in folders so i dont have to get a finger hernia scrolling through everything.
My problem is that I use low-power mode often. I also like to turn in on while driving, and charge my phone in the car that way. Lately when coming OUT of low-power mode, I've found that my apps have DUPLICATED. Every. Single. One. Doesn't matter if the phone is charging, or not. They duplicate, BOTH APPS OPEN, and I have to uninstall the second ones with no data loss to the original(?) one.
I also like to change my themes weekly. Thats what originally started the problems. Recently, after switching a theme out again, I found that the phone had emptied out my folders into a giant CF in my app drawer. Thinking "at least its not old school Samsung LAG", I just put them BACK. No biggie.
NO GO. I did that THREE SEPARATE TIMES. I have 425+ apps on my phone. Sometimes SOME of the apps will be removed from the folders, sometimes ALL of the apps.
The breaking point for me was when I took it off of low-power mode as I was leaving the car, and the apps spread back out, and SOME WEREN'T EVEN SHOWING. Furious, I knew I was going to use my tapatalk app to get onto XDA to ask for help or guidance. Tapatalk Pro is on my phone, but WAS NOT SHOWING IN THE APP DRAWER. So i searched for it instead. It came up in the SEARCH, but not alphabetically where it SHOULD be. Now when you find an app by searching, if the app comes up, you can long press it and it will give you the option to "locate" where the app is store on your phone (folder, which screen, etc.) When that was done, the phone froze briefly, and then did nothing.
Im at my wit's end on this issue. The most horrible part is that I can't find ANYONE who is having this issue other than me. Phone has not been dropped, no cracks, nothing.
What the hell is wrong with my phone??
This is the most horrific problem I've ever read on XDA is all my time here. Sorry that I don't have a solution to your problem, but just reading through your post is terrifying.

I think a logcat and developer tools may help. Have you tried Samsung service since you can easily replicate the problem in front of them?

Are you using 3rd party launcher? If you don't use low power mode does it still happen. What are using to change themes?

No third party launcher. I use the standard, built in theme options when I switch themes, and the themes are downloaded from the Samsung theme app/store/part.

Unfortunately thats exactly what I did. I started putting my apps in folders as everything was downloading. I also began to get rid of apps because I figured that definitely didn't help.
By the time the phone finished downloading all my backup'd apps, the two apps I deleted were BACK, and the apps came out of the folders I had just put in. Back to the same situation. :silly::crying:

Since what you're experiencing is most likely a software issue, you may want to factory reset and try not restoring any of your backed up apps, just manually install the basic ones and see how it behaves for a few hours.

For 435 apps?
I'm reviving this thread because the problem continued on the the Note 10.
...then the Note 20U...
Now I'm too scared to try it on my Z Fold 3.
This is a SOFTWARE issue...not a specific phone or app issue.
Not sure if this is just my phone but after I take a picture or video I can't view it in the camera app. Everything is just blank/black. Is anyone else having their problem and is there a fix for it besides doing a factory reset? I've cleared the cameras data and set it up again but it's still doing it. Thanks for the help in advance everyone.

Is it like your own cloud storage with an automatic backup or you gotta do it manually and can only access at home? I've seen something years ago that gives you your own cloud storage with whatever hard drive you want but Google Photos and Google Drive is just so convenient and good, especially their searching.
