Hey guys, I just bought a HP Touchpad with the plan of throwing on android, setting it up for my kid to use for movies, music, and maybe some apps... What is the most stable build of Jelly Bean or Kit Kat that I could setup a kid friendly, capable tablet? have rooted one device (Nook Color) before so I understand the process slightly but I don't even know where to start with this. Thanks for any suggestions.
So I went with CM 10.1 and it's solid.
Which version? I'm running JCSullins 10.1 VPN fix and it's been fine for me, not data media either which I prefer. Low battery drain, everything seems to work, and used the old 2.6 kernel so a bit more stable.

The data media builds are really only 1 additional zip file (for the repartitioning) and I've had great experience so far with jcsullins CM11, smooth and no battery drain issues.
Do these roms you guys are using have "network settings" for data connectivity?

There are plenty of stable rooms for the WiFi only touchpad here in the development section....before I got this 4g touchpad I was running kk on mine and it was really stable.....the evolver roms are very good...

I don't see that on the CM11 ROM I am using. No wireless & network option within settings. Just Wi-Fi menu.
Looking for the same thing here. Mine are still on cm10 but I'd like something more stable. Bonus if Netflix works on it.

My wifi is acting strange last days. The down arrow is always blinking. When switching to 3g this is not happening, so no app issue i suppose. Using speedmod kernel. Its happening on two different routers I have at home. Have surfed the internet, but could not find a clear solution. Any ideas?

Is it possible that the wifi scan is going on?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
There can be 2 reasons for that..
1st-> Under Software Update option Auto Update is enabled with Wi-Fi only mode.
2nd-> In Play Store go to Settings and see if Update over Wi-Fi only is enabled or not.
Think this will solve your problem.
Thanks for your help. I tried it. I even installed a complete vanilla Rom and kernel. I suspect it is a scanning problem because the frequency and behaviour is almost the same as when i am at the wifi scanning settings menu.

As per the above discussion, it seems to be the wifi scan that goes on after a certain interval of time (15 sec)...
"may be it can be fixed by changing wifi.supplicant_scan_interval value to a higher value" in the build.prop file.
rom toolbox pro helps you do this...
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=15 and change it to your desired value wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=90.
just to let you know .. i tried this once by directly changing the values using ES text editor but then phone dint boot.. i had to do a nandroid restore...
so in case you wanna experiment... make sure u have a working backup.... (nandroid)

Hi
I am currently using Cm10.1 stable and I found out the 3G connection in this rom is buggy. When I download large files using 3G ,or browse specific website, the data transfer will be stopped without noticing. The strange thing is the "H+"icon is still shown in the status bar.
I installed an app called"networkspeed" and monitor the data transfer, and found that there is still downloading and uploading but I just can't access the internet. Every time this problem occur I have to change my apn, turn off data or switch on airplane mode and switch it on again in order to get my connection back.
I think this is not my carrier's fault because this problem never happen on my other device (same sim card)
Someone having the same problem? Is there any way to fix this annoying problem?
Thanks for reading and sorry for my bad English.

Ps:thanks button will be pressed if helped!

gottria, did your data work out of the box or did it take any coersion? I'm on 11/13 and on the newest modem but no data. wifi works fine, flashed KT kernel but all that did was make my back/menu/volume buttons work, and made my sd card not read... everything else works just fine.
@Willie68wr Not sure yet I really want to go back on CM 11 because its soo smooth and fluid but Netflix for some reason there's a rendering issue cause like a greyish tint over the bottom part of the movies thats the killer for me. I have been using for days even before thread and this is super solid. The difference is that he keeps us updated with the latest cm and will be around more than @kushdeck. I love @kushdeck work don't get me wrong he brought us kit kat, but people have questions and need a active dev to keep people informed and provide support.

The only way to get camera preview to look normal on any 4.4 roms is to set the camera to 2mp and the front camera has the same issue and needs to be set to 1.3mp and the distortion is gone.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I have a nasty habit of starting to use a ROM immediately before a developer quits the effort to keep it up. I hope you stay active in pushing out updates. If so, I, for one, would be happy to send a modest donation your way for you time and hope others would join me.

Stock android-ish look and conserves the battery. Also customization. I looked around and found CMremix and ressurection remix, any thoughts on those?
I've been using TEKXodus rom. You should definitely check it out. It's great on battery and smooth.

I'm currently using Maximum OvrDrive N5 port. It seems like a good one so far. Lots of customizations and tweaks available.
I am not a fan of Touchwiz/samsung interface, so my suggestions will all be AOSP or the like.
CMRemix is good and fast, but still has a few bugs to work out. It's good enough for those who really want the latest and greatest.
SlimRemix is the fastest:most reliable rom i have used, but it uses noticeably more battery.
I am currently on CM12.1 from the official Cyanogenmod website. Super stable, battery life is good, very mod-able.
you will lose wifi calling with any of these, but i find that the trade-off is worth it, despite that i live on a mountain with no reception. you can add s-pen functions again with "cm spen addon" and "note buddy"
I have not found the camera to be as good on aosp roms, so FireKat is my Rom of choice. Poprocks if you prefer lollipop (I don't).

I may have to take back what I said and give aosp another go. I can't tell a difference between Snap Camera, Google Camera, and stock (FireKat rom) at least for static subjects. What I really need though is a quick camera for pics of the kids. I'll upload the pics. Hopefully it doesn't compress them to death here....
FireKat first.
Google Camera second.
Snap Camera third.
Looks like they are about 5% of the original file size.
