QUAD Core Question - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to disable cores individually to save battery life? I don't need to continuously use the quad core in this phone. I've searched for applications but everything is old... back in 2013... any help or advice would be great.

as far as I know the phone already does this on it's own
the cores are only active when needed. power saver mode turns off even more stuff. if you want complete control of all the cores manually you need a custom kernel (ElementalX) and software to control it

Lowering down frequency of CPU - if unused.

Hello,
I saw somewhere on some PocketPC application that was lowering down frequency of CPU if device was unused - because of saving battery.
(sorry for my poor english)
I'd like to ask you if:
- is it possible and working (saving energy)?
- isn't it unhealthy for CPU?
Maybe I am just wrong but it sounds cool to me.
Thanks for answer!
iv heard of that before, i think its called *speed stepping* dont quote me on tht.and intel use it on there cpu's but i dont knw if a phne would support such a thing.it does and would save enerrgy by reducing the clock speed of the cpu it can use less volts at the core etc
now that you have said that...i wonder if you could over clock the cpu on a ppc???
would void warranty and the usual but would be good for certain handsets.
sorry i havent actualy answered ur question though

There is no way to Overclock the Kaiser so there will be no way to Underclock the Kaiser from what i have read.

Yes for some PocketPCs, but it's depending on the CPU, and there's currently no solution for the Kaiser.

Nope. I've over/underclocked most of my previous PDAs.
However I was more often overclocking than underclocking, as those devices are already slow enough. Unless you use it like an MP3 player for hours without doing anything else, with screen off, and where you know you need long battery life, it's just not worth having to put up with a device that is slow as hell for minor savings. There's not only the CPU drawing power there - even slowing it down by 2 won't save you much more than 10-20% power when in normal use with screen on... the backlight will already draw more than the CPU at normal speed.
Actually you might end up using more energy with the device underclocked, as you'll be staring at that lit up screen for longer while it *tries* to do what you asked it to
When "unused" as you mentioned in the title - which I understand would be when it is in your pocket doing nothing - the CPU is already in sleep mode and not running, so no such savings possible here.
Thanks for replying...
I was overlocking too some of my ppcs but it wasn't useful everytimes... (freezing etc...)
I was worried about underclocking - I don't have any experience with this...
Ok, now I got it.
Well - cool and fast PDA = daily charging...
Thanks again...
BTW: I can't turn off backlight in my kaiser. It isn't possible ?

No unfortunatly it's not possible. This is my first PDA which does not allow to turn off the backlight. You can just put it as low as possible.
You may not be able to shut off the backlight, but with S2U2, you can set it to lock when you shut off the screen, thus allowing you more power saving.
But as for idling saving you power, if you have TCPMP player, you'll notice that it can read the processor speed somewhere below 400MHz. The processor's designed to automaticly adjust to save power. I once saw mine running at 195MHz.
It may not be possible to manually control, but it does do it automaticly. And underclocking actually increases the life span of the CPU.

can i turn off s600's cores ?

hello
can someone help me ?
can i turn off s600's cores ?
from 4 to 3 or 2 cores
HTC One doing this automatically. Install CPU-Z You can see in this app activity of your cpu. In daily use most time Htc use 2 cores or 1.
Honestly there is no real reason to do this. Like xnobex said your device does this automatically to save battery. It only uses as much processing power as it needs to so its never at 100% load all the time and if it was it would be killed quick and overheating like crazy. Doing this would only mess up the experience and cause lag, with very little to show when it comes to improved battery life. Your device rarely ever needs to use a lot of processing power unless you're playing games. Your best bet is just to lower clock speed which the power saving mode does already setting it to 1.2 GHz when its normally at 1.7. Personally using custom kernels and under clocking helps my battery life. Also greenify is a life saver.

Lazy second core??

Hey guys i have a problem kinda with my xperia sp.... The second core is always offline even when the cpu governor is set to performance.... Why is that???
I run stock rom 2.254 stock kernel and i am rooted.
The offline info came from the app trickster mod
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
The phone will only use the second processor when it can't manage the tasks with just the first core( I saw the online/offline with system monitor ). Only uses 2nd core when neccesary, so it's not a lazy core

Thanks for your answer but if the gorvernor is set to performance shouldn't be the second core running ?

No, it'll get the core online when needed. If you force both cores to be online constantly your battery will drain within hours.. Massive battery drain because of a core you don't use at all, but still is online

Thanks i downloaded an app that tracks cpu use in both cores mine seconds wakes up quite frequently despite the offline status on Trcickster mod....
Thank you.

Which cores are the most active?

I'm looking to OC the cores individually, and I was wondering which core does the phone use for lightweight tasks the most? Is it #0?

Core 0 is always active, so that would imply that it's used for light tasks. When it reaches certain load, other cores jump in to help

Its any chance to make all 8 cores working?

Its any chance to make all 8 cores working? With root and some script will be possible?
They do under heavy loads. A57s pressure the battery so much and heat without cooling if work continuously. I heard A73s work continuously like A53s.
@Oveana cores got disabled on nougat and that's true!! We can't deny this!! Enabling 6 cores by default as in MM would be soo great or leaving a toggle to enable device performance to use 6 cores is a better idea which we CAn expect in future updates!!
Still no solution??
@Pwruser Its verry annoyng ,SONY DO THE WORST work ever and a fraud Maybe devs can modify kernel to make all cores to work
Get back to MM!! That's all u can do for now....Or flash a custom kernel If u r not on warranty!!!
Big cores work like mm
https://ibb.co/geGYiv
All cores are working with my Sony Z3+ with Nougat .376. By default, only 4 cores run with min frequency, other cores will start running only if there is load, it is for saving battery. You can check with "Kernel Editor" app (rooted only).
flash androplus kernel and enjoy 8cores!
@yxtl there's your answer,
also: having all 8 cores active on max performance lets the device run into thermal limit FAST,
thus ==> lots of throttling, performance goes down, lower than snapdragon 808,
do you REALLY want that ?
Just observe what the big cores do once you raise load on the device ...
And that changes things exactly how ?
Explain ?
Is there a difference in behavior of hotplug ?
(I'm curious)
Thx for answer I run some testes myself ,and A57 cores are not complete disabled ,just need more pressure to work,I asked to sony support and i got same answer
