Question about the no calls/text while on LTE - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Is this something that is more prevalent on custom Roms? Because since I got my M8 Ive had no problems with missing calls or text. I was just curious before I go ahead and unlock and start flashing roms.

Your best bet is to probably read some rom threads to find out. I'm having zero issues with viper, but everyone's experience may not be the same.

Well thats the thing...All the people I see who are having this issue were on custom Roms. I don't think Ive run across anyone who is stock untouched. So thats why I was hoping to get some feedback here.

Understood, however if there are issues they may be posted in their respective threads along with any fixes/updates.
But I personally believe that most of the issues you're reading about may be network or hardware related, but that's just my opinion.
I myself am luckily in a market that has strengthened the network early on, we were a second round market that started the build out along with first round markets.

Yeah I was pretty lucky with the upgrades all around Atlanta GA. I might not have the most amazing signal but just about everything is upgraded and ready to go.
Ill continue to search around but if anyone is reading this and is complete stock with these issues please post and let me know.

Thanks! Good to know

I can confirm my issues are related to the tower im on at home, as soon as I get far enough away from it to go to another tower I get all of my connections back.

The only issues I have seem to be when I'm at home.
Sometimes, it takes a while to send/receive texts. Most of the time when this happens, I get anxious and instead of seeing how much of a delay there is, I simply update the profile and they all come quickly afterward. I've found that reprovisioning my phone using the ##SCRTN#(##72786#) dialer code while on CDMA tends to prevent this from happening for a greater amount of time.
Though, I did it a few days ago, it seems to be working okay now. We'll see how long it lasts.

[ROM-FIX] CM 6.xx, Ruby 1.1.1 and Shadowrom Radio and Wifi - Drops and Reboots Fix

Latest Cyanogenmod nightly number 97 (10/3/2010) has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch if you are running it or a newer one.
Back Story
Long story short, the Chinese group Miui mananged to get / build (not really sure) a new Radio Interface Layer for our HTC devices... I pulled this file out of the Nexus one build that they released and it works perfectly. Link to the Nexus1 version
Over in the Nexus one forum a few people have questioned where this Chinese group got some of the files they're using, as they're really bleeding edge (at least thats what they say in the N1 forum). This newer / different RIL file seems to fix the issues we're facing with random phantom reboots while wifi is on. Also included in this is the issue where the signal bars show an "x" for a second or two after connecting to a wifi hotspot. Also fixed are issues where the radio signal drops before / after receiving a call that plagues AOSP builds (ruby and CM for sure).
Cyanogenmod 6.xx
This works on the 6.xx versions as well as the Nightlies.
NOTICE: As of Oct 2nd this has been "committed" so I assume the nightly that comes out this evening will have the fix built in. Check it out
Latest nightly number 97 has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch.
Ruby 1.1.1
This works for Ruby. If you are wanting the BT Media Streaming audio fix as well, please see this thread. They are two separate installs.
Shadowrom
It has been confirmed that this also works for Shadowrom.
Bugs
I honestly don't know of any yet... but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Only a handful of us have been testing this thing out on the inc so far. Figured more people might want to check it out.
Credit
I take no credit for the fix. The Miui group built/got it(not sure which), I simply happened to be playing around with some files and noticed the side effects. Thanks again to Jermaine for letting me know more about the rom (and the fact that they weren't plagued by our reboot issues) in the first place so I could start digging...
Of course thanks go out to the entire ruby and cyanogenmod teams, without them we wouldn't have these fun roms. Lastly, IncredibleDoes for doing the Inc port of miui that opened our eyes to it.
Installation
- Download the file and place it on your SD card.
- Load up Rom Manager and hit "Install rom from SD card," select the file.
- I'd probably make a nandroid backup if you haven't recently just in case... no wipe has been needed.
Disclaimer
If this messes up your phone, not my fault Was tested by about 30 people so far, and no issues that we've seen. Please make a nandoid backup just in case.
THIS IS FOR AOSP roms listed above ONLY. Please do NOT install it on any sense based roms.

Not that I can tell... so far the mere fact that the wifi isn't causing reboots anymore is the main reason I'm putting this out there...

I really dont believe its the wifi. Its when the 3g turns on or off when the issues happen, which is when you leave or enter a wifi area. I turned 3g off and didnt use it for 2 days with wifi on the whole time with no reboots. I've have the lockup with just 3g on as others have noted. Also I believe that the lockups and the reboots are a separate issue. I have yet to see where any dev said it was the wifi directly, and with the known issues of 3g+froyo it points to 3g not wifi.
So, if you turn wifi off and are in a good 3g area then you will unlikely lose 3g much if at all, but if you have signal issues then the reboots still exist.
If we are going to find out what the problem is we need to setup test groups.
1 - no wifi, no 3g
2 - no wifi, 3g on
3 - wifi on, no 3g
4 - wifi on, 3g on
Make sure everyone is using the same rom/radio.

That's a possibility, but I think I'm in a good 3G area, and the majority of my movements are in a pretty small geographic area. I'll get reboots when my phone is just sitting on a table or in my pocket though in an area w/ strong signal.

I think what we'd really need is for the testers to check all 4 combinations. There's too much geographic variance to have a bunch of different people testing these combinations unless some lived very close to each other.

HELP! Weirdest problem with Mobile Data

Hi guys!
So I have this weird issue ever since I updated to Jelly Bean.
Everything works fine after JB update, except my mobile data. I can now only get about 152kbps speed on 3g covered areas where everyone else gets 5Mbps.
I have tried a bunch of things, including flashing the JB radio firmware with the tool posted on the dev section... all to no avail. This is really bugging me!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
FYI: I'm rooted, unlocked bootloader, and have flashed the FR Orange JB update.

Other people on here may know a lot more than I do on this, but there are really only two elements to this in my understanding: device capability and network offering. The middle-point is of course, reception. If you don't get those speeds, it's likely reception. Many of us on here, who like modding, imagine the most difficult option as being the problem, I'd wager that it's the simplest... (I mean that sincerely, I'm not mocking!)

Nope, but thanks for the suggestion. I've already made sure it's not reception or anything physical either. I've tried the three radio firmwares provided in the forums (C7, C9, JB) and nothing.
I think the most plausible thing is that I flashed JB from France when I'm in Mexico.... If only I could find the files from another country and flash them to check this possibility... but I just can't find the link.
Edit: I just flashed the EU retail version and that did not fix my problem. I'm despairing now :'(

From the sounds of it you should never buy a U.S. based phone again. The only way you will get these updates before U.S. carriers through official means is with an international variant. Yeah you can probably find hacked up versions that allow the update early but those usually come with their fair share of issues and most people end up still wiping and placing official updates on anyways when they finally come out. If you for some reason ever thought CDMA would get updates early you are far from knowledgeable about how this stuff works. That said, of the U.S. Carriers Sprint has the best record of updating first. Thank you for another useless rant post showing people what little you know of the smart phone ecosystem.

There is only a handful of things that I'm really looking forward to, quick settings and the one lock screen widget that we get from 4.2. The quick settings has been solved thanks to the great ROMs that we have here, and just because we haven't received an update yet doesn't make our phones any less functional than they are.

[Q] 4g/LTE/3G not working on Custom Roms

Hello XDA,
So I've purchased my 1st quad-core phone Saturday. I'm extremely happy about the phone's cosmetics and performance. Of course, being the flash-aholic that I am, I decided to beef it up!! After finially getting an AOSP rom that I felt comfortable with, I flashed and everything was great.... Until I noticed that my data stopped working. The funny thing is if I turn on airplane mode, make a call, or restart the phone the data comes on for about 2 minutes and then turns back off. After messing around with settings and such, I restored my stock rom. On the stock rom data works like it should. So I decided to try 2 other roms. One being GE and the other AOSP. Both are doing the same thing with data connectivity.
Is this a known issue? Did I do something wrong? I looked through the Q&A's and I didn't find anything. Keep in mind that I am very experienced up to full development of rooting/flashing/customizing/etc
Thanks in Advanced!!!!!
Update: T-mobile is my service provider
*bump*
It's imperative that I find out if this is fixable or not as I will return the unit if it's not...
Apologies

Did you try updating the radio firmware to match the ROM that you were using? Did you try another Sense ROM to see if the issue wasn't an underlying setting from a GE or AOSP ROM? Did you flash a custom Kernel? Did you match the RILs? Lots of things that you could try to isolate the issue.

I use PA from the regular HTC One forum even though I'm on T-Mobile... It shouldn't matter, I still get the same speeds. Some different ROMs will use different names, like the aosp stuff uses 3g, H, H+ and LTE. In order to enable lte you have to go into the settings for mobile data, APN and then make sure it's the one that's like fast.tmo whatever. That's the LTE APN
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
what's the exact APN name that should be there? I was reading about it but no one said what T-mobile's APN should be. they just noted that it should be changed the correct carrier.

Sprint htc one what are the real benefits of the 4.3 firmware ????

I got my new updated firmware that came out with 4.3 flashed on my sprint htc one flashed to straight talk verizon s-off with moonshine. What are the improvements that I"am supposed to see ????
I have had problems with all 4.3 roms and I have tried them all, my call signal most times shows zero bars when its full signal, sometimes it will go full bars but always goes back to none fast and the phone is never moved.
I thought flashing the 4.3 firmware would fix this issue but it did not.
Another thing is I use it on a verizon samsung network extender at home which its the old model the first model they came out with that was call signal only no 3g data were the newer model has 3g, but I notice it does this when I"am not home sometimes also but I have not really watched it while running errands in a good while. When I"am on the network extender when I call out or on a call received my phone will show full bars the whole time.
I think its working ok, but the no bars on my phone is annoying I mean I might as well not even have bars on my phone at all if they are not going to be accurate.
Anyone have any ideas ?

Not convinced you actually know what you're talking about. For one, the firmware version is not 4.3-- that's the ROM software version, which is very distinct from the radio version that came with the 4.3 OTA. 4.3 changed how cell signal is displayed to match the available/in-use data connection as opposed to the 1xRTT voice/text connection. Besides that, if you're using the Sprint HTC One on Verizon, you're not going to get particularly good speeds even with 3G.
If you don't like the behavior, there's probably an XPOSED module or a downgrade to 4.1 to fix that.
I dont know where your getting your info, but there are firmware downloads for people that are rooted and do not receive htc / sprint ota updates for 4.3.
Check out the following and see for yourself...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46123838
Then see either full firmware or Full Firmware w/o hboot, boot, recovery (for s-off users (thx bigdaddy619 for testing!!!)
The phone is capable of running verizon 3g just as well as sprint 3g.
Unless you have a sprint htc one on straight talk verizon like I do then you have no idea of how verizon 3g data works on a sprint htc one and you are providing an uneducated guess, which straight talk verizon 3g data speeds are not any part of this posting.
Perhaps could it be you either work for verizon or sprint and just hope to deter people from flashing their sprint htc one or any other smartphone to straight talk verizon ????
If verizon was not so much of blood sucking company trying to squeeze every penny they can from their post paid subscribers and would compete with sprint and t mobile and even more on the prepaid side where sprint mvno's get lte and t mobile prepaids get lte and even at&t prepaids get lte even straight talk at&t gets lte, but verizon will not compete and allow lte, this will all be verizons undoing, because with sprints infusion of cash from softbank they will be building lte very quickly and when sprint merges with t mobile in the near future then verizon will be strong armed to either compete or be left behind and they will be put down like a dead horse and many people like myself will love to see the day that their greediness and cockiness comes back to haunt them and they will then pay for their arrogance...

You may want to read a little. 4.3 is not the firmware version, but the ROM version. The current firmware is a 1.x release, even still.

The entirety of your complaint is you complaining about "bars" and real signal strength/speeds. The actual data behind the bars are related to both, but you don't seem to have any idea what the bars are. They represent the strength of your data radio if you're connected to data, 1XRTT if you're on a voice call.

That's pretty ironic, all things considered. I've provided some of the information you were looking for (how and why signal bars may be showing as lower than before with the new firmware), but instead you've posted even more links proving you don't know what you're talking about. Neither the touch control or radio firmware version numbers are even near 4.3. Feel free to keep digging your own hole, though.

That's pretty ironic, all things considered. My links prove you have no clue what your talking about. You make assumptions about things you have no clue about. You know what they say about people that assume...

Your link proves that you don't know how to actually post links on this forum; besides that, you ignore the posts OMJ's made in the radio threads discussing what kinds of firmware are available-- and yes, those are hboot, radio, and touch. Nice try though.
As I explained jack*** its the new firmware that came with the 4.3, you work so hard to be as much of a jack*** as you possibly can be. The links show the downloads for the new firmware. Try not being such an a** you act like your such a know it all, well you can get off the high horse you think your riding and you know what you can do with your attitude, where you can put it...
You've given it a valiant effort Rirere, bravo to you sir.
Mods should probably scrap this now since the op has decided to instigate a flamewar instead of reading the threads he is linking to as "support" for his statements.

This post was not to ask your personal opinions on anything. The guy just set out to set himself as knowing everything and he does not. He could have easily read in to it and taken the high road but instead he chose to try to put down what I was asking. I dont need anyone trying to be high and mighty thinking they are better. He started things he had no right to post to begin with because he never had an intension on helping, only to try to put me down and act like he is a know it all...

I feel like a language barrier is making this worse than it ought to be..
He very clearly explained himself in his first reply to you. It might have started out a bit condescending but he promptly explained why he felt that way.
Your replies to him hint that you don't understand what he has been explaining. Try asking people to elaborate instead of name calling, it helps makes xda a nicer place to visit.

I never said anywhere on here that I dont have good signal I said that my phone just shows that I don't but in all actuality I have full signal strength the phone just does not show it unless there is a call in progress.
Anyone please do not post on this unless you can do so without an attitude and if your post is not about this subject then you should not be posting on this.

Please do not post unless your posting about the topic, as this is not a personal posting asking for anyones opinions about anything else.

OK, here is me still being on topic.
Read his first reply again. He is correct. The signal bars you see do not represent the same thing they used to. If you don't understand what he meant, ask for more information.
If you are on a custom rom, try posting in that rom's thread, especially if signal is not displaying at all.
Hell, just post in that thread anyway since you obviously don't believe the information you've been provided here!
Based on what info you've given, I don't know how much more you'll get from anyone though...

I know for a fact that the problem is software related I dont need anyone to tell me that.
His comments were off topic, he was trying to tell me that there is no firmware update that came out for 4.3 which is wrong. Excuse me for calling it 4.3 firmware when it has its own number I dont need anyone acting like that trying to tell me things that I know are true.
I did post on elegancia rom but they the main guys run the gsm version of htc one and do not do anything on the sprint side some other guys do so the sprint support is not as kept up as the gsm stuff is.
I was only trying to figure out what problems were fixed in the new firmware if there were and fixes in call signal accuracy or anything like that.
I just dont need anyone acting like they know everything trying to tell me I"am wrong.
Almost every 4.3 custom rom for the htc one says they recommend that you upgrade your firmware which that guy was trying to tell me there is no firmware upgrade for 4.3 which there is and I posted the links for it. I dont need anyone trying to tell me something that I"am wrong when I"am not and I proved it.

You are asking us on the sprint HTC one forums about fixes for a rom built for gsm HTC one?
I have no idea how to answer you, try this:

Its not for just gsm, its gsm and sprint, you didnt read what I posted clearly. I said the main guys use gsm they have sprint guys that help out on the sprint support so the sprint support is not as quick to update as they have to contact the sprint guys on the sprint issues. The rom is for gsm and sprint.
