I am not sure why you would need to. It has WiFi and 3G onboard... unless you mean the other way round, in which case YES you can by going into settings/wireless and networks

Well, The Verizon model is cheaper, I'm with AT&T and I don't want a 3G plan but I want to be able to tether it to my phone so that I can still get instant upload and all the benefits while I'm away from "Wifi"

Foxfi should work.
I have a Galaxy Cam 2 and Bluetooth is also an option.
Most current models of Samsung phones have the "hacked" tether blocked, even if rooted. I found that the Wifi Tether Router app by Fabio Grasso in the Play store works perfectly and I gave up on waiting for the hack to be fixed. It's not free, but it's only a few $ (and worth it).

I have a non rooted stock ROM, is there any hotspot wifi app available for the TBolt ?
I had the Samsung Droid Charge and I found an app from SVTP that allowed hotspot without Verizon charges.

Try this
Or THIS
Those are for Tethering, not WiFi Hotspot, but thanks anyway.

Well you do realize that tethering will also allow you to use your device's connection through a PC or laptop, right?
Similar concept, just uses USB instead of wifi.
Anyway, here is a WIFI APP (no root needed)
Can't verizon bust you for this?, I'm not trying to do the "holier than thou" thing, because I am interested in this...Just was wondering...I know at&t started nailing people for it.

I believe the running concensus is that yes, they can bust you. Possibly by sending you a bill and/or enrolling you in the wifi tether plan. I'm sure they could legally void your contract and/or refuse service to you as well (there goes that grandfathered unlimited data plan). That said, I don't know how many cases there are of them actually doing this, so from what I've seen, people say to just keep it within reason.
I purchased an at&t go phone Sim card because our bill was almost 1000 dollars. Is there any way to enable tethering on the wap apn?

Holy cow, how did you manage to clock up such a massive bill?!
Anyway, if you're on a custom ROM without the tethering block, you should just be able to turn it on and go. It should work as long as you have a data connection.
If you're on ATT stock, and the tethering check is still in place, I don't think you're going to have any luck unless you actually add tethering to your line. I know GoPhone supports ATT's standard messaging packages; I don't know if they do the same data packages.

Insurance replacments, about 3 actually. Go phone doesnt support this phone at all in fact its not supposed to have data at all apparenty because lte phones are not allowed to use the go phone service because AT&T sucks. There words. I couldve done straight talk but this is only a temporary solution till i get paid friday and straight talk doesnt support lte does it? OH and i do have the 500 MB smartphone plan for 25 dollars which is a rip off to the max so taht should work in theory right?

In theory, yes. As long as the phone has a working data connection and no tethering check in place, it should let you tether, as inadvisable as tethering is on that plan.

Well, just try it. If it blocks you, then you don't really have an alternative unless you flash an alternative ROM.

I'm planning to go pick up a moto x (card) today, but I need to know if I will be able to use it to create a personal wifi hotspot.
Right now, I have a Galaxy S (AT&T Captivate) and as soon as I installed Cyanogen, I was able to turn on the wifi hotspot and connect with my laptop. No extra fees from AT&T, it just worked.
Since there is no root or unlocked bootloader for the Moto X, will I still be able to enable this feature or will it still be removed from the OS like it was on my stock Galaxy S?
I don't want to have to pay $10 a month or something to use the data I've already paid for--I don't tether often, but it is often fairly important when I do.

It won't be an option until we get root. After that we can alter the build.prop and work around it.

Is it still an option if I pay for it? I guess I could pay for it until the device is rooted and then cancel (assuming that doesn't red-flag you for improper data use).
Hopefully it gets rooted soon.
I know nothing it definite when it comes to the MotoX+1 as we know little to nothing about it, but it's likely safe to assume it will be as secure if not more than the MotoX.
I NEED to have Wifi Tether on my phone, it is an absolute must. I currently have an unlimited data plan with Verizon and I use tethering on my Galaxy S3 nearly all the time. Is wifi tethering possible on the Verizon Moto X? Is root required?

Buy the developer edition. It is the only guaranteed way that you will be able to root, and [probably] use WiFi tether...
Yes I'm considering that option, wonder what Dev edition x+1 will cost
For those of you who are on AT&T plans(or Go phone plan) that officially allows tethering, does the z3 compact have that tethering and hotspot setting like the Note 3? If not and you are not rooted, how are you able to do wifi hotspot?

Thank you guys. Getting impatient for a US model. Might just order it from Ebay.

Yea, that is why I just did the pre-order and got it from Clove. US is always months behind getting the new models, if they even manage to hit carriers.
this is good news that it works. anyone know if it works over bluetooth as well?
Does AT&T charge when I turn on my tethering?
They don't really know you are using it if you having an unlocked phone. But if you use it to much they might catch on
