Factory reset question - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am selling an HD+ running 10.2.1 and want to make sure my info is erased. If I boot into CWM and do a factory reset/wipe data, it will reboot into the CM setup and my data will be gone, right?

Yes and no. All your apps and settings will be gone but your media files you may have downloaded to the internal sdcard will still be there. To get rid of that you must boot to CWM and go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia'.

Thanks. I can delete the media manually. There's just a few pictures.
If I delete my accounts, is that info really gone if I don't do a factory reset? Or is it still recoverable like deleted files are in Windows?

[Q] Wiping SdCard on TWRP HELP

I got the CM10.1 ROM so this created a sub directory "/data/media/0" and now calls that "sdcard". Before installing the cm10.1 I had a lot of apps and images that I want to delete now, but if I wipe "Internal Storage" do I lose the apps and everything I have now installed on the new ROM?

If you wipe internal storage, you lose EVERYTHING you put on the device, apps, settings, data. It's like starting fresh on a new device, except the ROM stays because that's written into the partitions.
Shoot!, so there's no other way to wipe the SD without losing everything right?

If they were flashed through a recovery, no. If they were installed through GPS, yes.

[Q] nook hd+ 2.1.1 update

So this update came out a little bit ago. I have done the "allow unknown sources" mod. Should I be able to install the update or does the mod prevent it from installing?
I've tried to install several time and it keeps failing.
How can I do the update at this point?
Enable Unknown Sources zip does nothing to prevent an update.
I'm not sure what you mean by update came up. What were you running before. Is this an update over the air from B&N or what?

I am running 2.1.0. It's an over the air update from B&N for 2.1.1. I even tried the method to download the update file and save it to the device's main directory but that didn't even try to update that way, but the file disappeared.
I installed the NookHD-HDplus-stock-enable-Unknown-Sources-rev0-(09.08.13) and NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev3-(09.10.13)
Oh, the universal root rev3 does block it.
If you want to upgrade, go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and flash the rooted 2.1.1 from item 6.

so basically just reflash with the NookHDplus-stock-2.1.1-rooted.zip file using that same set of directions that I used to do the original allow unknown sources mod?
ANother question, I originally used an 8 GB SD card and it only created a 4 GB partition. I backed up the stock image. I was going to back up the current image to the same card but it ran out of space. How can I make full use of the 8 GB card?
Yes, install the rooted zip just like you do any other zip from my thread, using CWM.
You can try using partition software like Mini-Tool Partition Wizard to expand the 4GB to the full size of the SD. Make sure you copy the backup files to your PC before you start in case you screw it up.

nook hd did factory reset now its i think what you call boot looping

The nook hd was working fine it pulled up all the normal screens turned on and off normally... then did factory reset now its i think what you call boot looping. I bought this on CL never used it went to sell it and factory reset it now its flashing nook over and over when I try and plug it into my computer its pooping up as new device then it goes away then it comes back then it goes away over and over and it makes the windows makes the device connected beep noise over and over. What do I need to do to fix it?
Thanks for any help!
Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item 1a and use that to flash a plain stock zip from item 6. Follow that with a factory reset with CWM and you should be back to plain stock, ready for registration.

The small image is too small to accommodate the size of the plain stock zip. It is over 400MB. Use the new procedure in section 1a and you can use the whole 2GB.

[Q] How can I expand the memory on my Nook HD?

I bought a 64 gb class 10 microsd card and I found I can only store music, photos, files like that. What I would like to use it for is to store applications and such. I have tried links 2 sd with no luck, I have tried partitioning with no luck. I am running CyanogenMod version 10.1.3-hummingbird. I really would like to get this working. Thanks!
TL;DR Want to put apps on external microsd card. Running CM 10.1.3-hummingbird. How do I do this

You can't with the Nook HD/HD+. Since internal media files and your app data share the free space internally, your best solution is to store all of your media files by default on the SD so that all internal space is available for apps. You can do that by going to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and flashing my swap SD for CM zip. See item 4.

So what exactly will that do to my nook? It will then store all of the app data on the external SD instead of internal?
You can repartition your sdcard and use Link2SD. It won't move OBB files, but it can move apps, data, libs and dalvik files.

No, just the app's media files. They will go by default to external SD instead of internal SD. The regular app data stays on internal.
But maybe you do want to try the link2sd. I used it on my limited storage phone in the past and it worked great.

I cant even get links2sd to work and now my CWM is acting strange with the scrolling either getting stuck or not responding.
It sounds like you have some software problems. You did not say but I assume you installed CM10.1.3 on internal memory. I recommend a factory reset to clear things out and then reinstall your apps.

I actually have 10.1.3 installed on the internal memory. I might just do a factory reset and re install CM when I get home today. Will factory reset get rid of CWM as well?

No. It will not effect the ROM (CM10.1.3) either. It just wipes your installed apps and data. Just try the factory reset before you reinstall to see if that fixes it.

[Q] Upgrading my ROM version

Hi all,
I've been running a Cyanogenmod nightly version since december. version 10.2.20131222.
My HD+ has the bad memory issue. What would you guys reckon I should upgrade to. Its starting to run slow and a factory reset seems to be a temporary fix.
I havent replaced the boot rom.
Cheers

What does that last statement mean? Are you saying you still have stock on internal memory and you are running CM from SD?

I haven't installed a recovery e.g. cwm.
Cheers
So what you are saying is you are running an early version of CM10.2 that does not have TRIM activated and you have started to get lag. You have the bad memory chip and are worried to run something newer with TRIM activated. So now you want advice about what is safe to run. You also still have stock recovery installed. Is this a correct interpretation?
I don't know the best answer for that. The stable CM10.2.1 is supposed to be safe, but I have no proof of that. I know a lot of users have reported bricked devices with CM11, with no explainable reason why. I suspect TRIM with the bad chip.
It is a tough question. Maybe someone else has some comments.

Exactly what I meant to say. Thanks for explaining it better leapinlar
I just had another thought. You say you do a factory reset and it helps temporarily. You might try going to mounts and storage in CWM and format 'data and datamedia'. That is a real format of /data. The factory reset and format /data does not really format /data. It erases the contents of /data except the /data/media folder where your emulated internal sdcard is. So it is an erase function rather than a format. Also some of your lag may be due to your media files. A clean real format of /data may help. Also format /cache, that is where your system dalvik cache files are stored and if you're are not factory reseting, you should do the cache separately.
