[Discussion] Protection Nexus 4 by tempered glass - Nexus 4 General

Hi guys.
Not much people check "Accessories" thread so I want continue discussion here.
I have found new case for my Nexus 4, but in my opinion all spoils the appearance of nexus 4, but I found something other. It is tempered glass protector.
It cost about 9$ and look nice CLICK!. I saw many test on youtube, also drop test but only iphones and samsung, no nexus there, but It looked really nice. All times in drop test glass protector broken but screen was like new, any scratch and cracks. Does anyone test it nexus?
What you think about it like only one protector on nexus?
Sorry for my poor language. (on back only film screen protector)
Best Regards!

I think its very awsome protector but i have seen they look ugly after some time because edges get separated and you can easily see it and looks terrible...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Hm.. maybe its truth but if it will protect my screen against cracks after drop I can deal with it, because it will probably look better than any other case. What do you think?

I'm going to buy this one CLICK!

[SP][PICS] XGear Phantasm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nexus 7

That's right, it's arrived!
As we all know, Google skimped on the Corning glass on our Nexus devices, so we only have "hardened glass" instead of the almighty Gorilla; making them more scratch-prone than other devices on the market. XGear, after their successes with the Galaxy Nexus, SIII, and Galaxy Note tempered glass SPs, have just released one for the Nexus 7.
http://www.xgearlive.com/products/tempered-glass/phantasm
Pics @ Imgur featuring the Phantasm from my old case thread:
lol at their asking price, i would rather get another chinese tablet with JB and IPS for about 100 bucks than to spend 70 bucks on this thing
on the other hand, i would probably pay 10 bucks for something similar to this
Problem is you're not going to get glass for $10. It's not realistic. Plus you have to weigh the other facts: it feels like bare screen, it's superior protection to any other SP out there, and more scratch resistant than the actual screen. I do agree that 1/3 the cost of the device is a little crazy though.
But either way.. it's the best protection you can get for your existing device.
@ 70 bucks, get squaretrade instead, at least it will protects you against more than just scratches
if i remember correctly, asus charges about the same or less to replace someone's cracked screen
Yea. I recommend getting a SGP and call it a day.
Gorilla glass is over rated. I had my Nexus One for years completely naked and its pristine. My G2x had tiny scratches after a few months. My Galaxy Nexus.... just fine. Guess which one had Gorilla glass?
Most glass these days are tempered anyway. Gorilla is just a name brand. Still cracks and scratches. Look how many iPhones have broken and scratched glass. My son threw his Galaxy Tab off a second floor railing onto a bare wood floor... and nothing.
Its so thin anyway that it wouldn't be as strong as an actual screen. Don't waste your money.

My Galaxy Nexus screen scratched from a dime I forgot I had in my pocket, so no, not all tempered glass is created equal. Gorilla has the brand prowess it does because its hardness is so high, making it extremely difficult to scratch. Tempered glass has hardness ratings, the XGear SPs are 8H out of a maximum of 10H; harder than my Galaxy Nexus screen, so it benefits from having it on there. It will also shatter instead of the screen, leaving it intact, protection no regular SP can provide.
For the exact same reasons I'm glad to put one on my N7.

Exactly. And the SGP Ultra Crystals are the best protectors on the market bar none. To the OP, its far more likely some grit in your pocket scratched your screen, not the dime.

That seems a waste but to each there own. Unfortunately they are out of stock.

Wow, they sold out fast.. guess there's a lot more demand than this thread might show.
I'm following the Fantom thread on RootzWiki where the rep responsible for getting XGear to make Android products posts, so I'll drop a note when they're back in stock/for sale again.

More likely than not they made a small production run. They're are very few out there willing to pony up that kind of cash for a screen protector. Plus, they are a relatively unknown company for them.

Jesus....$70 for a screen protector? I am sure is not THAT expensive to create this type of glass-based screen protector. This is 25% of the cost of the N7 itself.
I'll just buy an SGP screen protector.

I agree with this. While the glass may protect the main glass, you will see finger prints on this glass and then what? You get another screen protector on top to block smudges? Before you know it there will be layers and layers on your tablet and then not be able to touch the screen and use it.
I have a friend who has a glass shop. where they have special machine that can cut and polish the edges of thin tempered glass... Im thinking i should team up with him.. This could be super profitable..
They use a huge over like a kiln to heat the glass then cool it . They then cut it right before it cools to the tempered state. Then polish the edges . if the edges have one burr. when putting it back in the oven to re temper it will snap.. Ok not really a friend i Used to own a business with a glass shop next door. Had them to make some stuff for me.
Something like this anyway its been a few years ago.
The glass is cheap the equipment is expensive . The knowledge to do it is Priceless. So the 70.00 is prob a new company trying to recoup some equipment cost.
Alright, I've got more info on this "Out Of Stock" status. Here it is from the horses mouth along with a rough ETA:

You don't seem to understand the cost of the materials and labor, not to mention machining to make a product like this. Funny enough the profit margin on this is very low, and for what I know we are charging less than SGP for their tablet tempered glass protectors. I don't see you complaining about them? So please do not troll.

If I was the only one using it I would but I have a 11 year old that loves fruit ninja and cut the rope and LOVES her long nails. i know that the screen will be able to withstand it but I don't want to take that chance.
well i use screen protector on my mobile but not in my tablet reason is that it does not get mixed with keys coins etc so no harm ,also the new coatings of screen are scratch resistant, thats my 2cents

Just an FYI, Amazon has that same ArmorSuit for a few bucks less
In my experience, they always make the screen look awful. It's made of gorrilla glass anyway, thats the point is that you shouldn't need to use a screen protector.
As Dja357 said, it's made of gorilla glass. No screen protector needed.
I ordered some $5 protectors off ebay for mine.. i mainly like them for anti-glare.. BUT it does just destroy picture quality
As for scratches.. my fire's protector has a huge gouge across it. and no idea how it got there was worth the money to protect it
The screen quality does go down a bit with some protectors, but they help with glare and make it easier to clean too. I'm going to wait and see what type of case I end up finding before I decide on a protector though, its slim pickings right now
I'm more concerned of the back. But back protector is ridiculously overpriced right now
Sent from my beloved home phone.
Call me a crazy noob but I just took some scissors and snipped off the tab for removing the protector that came on the nexus 10. I left the original screen protector in place. It fits perfectly, there are no bubbles, no trapped fibers it is the best installed screen protector I've ever had. I will admit it is not quite as smooth as the exposed gorilla glass around the front camera and sensor but it is close and I have the piece of mind that should any horrible accident (or even a minor one) befall my tablet, I know that I can always rip off this screen protector to see a perfect piece of glass, untouched by human hands, beneath. Having a screen protector, for me, is mostly psychological.

I always get a case and screen protector for my phones / tablets. Didn't have much of a choice with the Nexus 10 and I am really enjoying the feel of the device more than any other device I've owned.
+1 naked :good:

So many scratches...

I've had my Nexus 4 for less than a week and there are a bunch of little scratches on the screen and one small crack near the bottom. I've had a bunch of touchscreen phones in the past and I've never gotten s single scratch on the screen so wtf is going on? Oh and is there anyway to fix them or at least make em less noticeable?

In my opinion (which seems to differ greatly from many others on this board) I want to show off the beautiful glass back. What is the point of keeping it scratch free and uncracked if you are just going to keep it hidden in a case for nobody to see, anyway? This phone cost $350, I highly doubt there is going to be a huge resale value for it when it comes time for me to replace it with the Nexus 5 (or whatever they call it). I will use screen protectors for the front and back and call it a day. I figure I will buy a nice black TPU case after I break the back (if I ever break it, that is) to hide the cracks, but until then, leave it naked for the world to see.

After being accustomed to having my plastic Nexus S naked the whole time (and it taking a few big falls without a mark) I was so uneasy handing the N4 at first - it felt so fragile and hard to hold. Fortunately I received the bumper the next day, and this has made a world of difference. I no longer feel on edge every time I pick it up - I still think my naked Nexus S is more durable, but at least the bumper let's you still enjoy the N4's superior build.

@OP,
You're holding it wrong.
Like someone else said, I suggest a screen protector with a silicon backing. They are the best.
Silicon backed protectors leave no residue and the silicon will fill in scratches and make them invisible while the protector is on. Protectors that stick using static cling will not cover scratches, and other protectors that require water to apply are more trouble than they are worth, in my opinion.
I recommend these, when it comes back in stock that is:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AEU4OEE/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00
I have used their protectors on many different phones and I am always extremely pleased with the results. Unlike most non-body armor screen protectors, these come with protectors for both the front and back.
I'm not a case person. I tend to take care of my phones. I'd recommend front and back protectors, the Nexus 4 bumper, just cause it adds a little more protection and grip, without taking away from the looks of the phone, and just be as careful as you possibly can. I don't care what phone you are talking about. If you drop it right (or wrong rather) it will break.
Good luck.
Yes screen protector is a no brainer, glass can scratch even gorilla glass, not too bothered though although I have a case on order for it as my phone gets slung in a pack with a big bunch of keys and other stuff, it would look like a pile of pants in no time if I had no case.
Front and back glass looks like sex but is a little vulnerable

REVIEW GHOST GLASS screen protector by MIMEusa with video slideshow

Today we’re looking at the GHOST GLASS screen protector by MIMEusa.
This is a premium tempered glass screen protector and I literally just rub the screen sometimes because it's so smooth and clear.
Click here to see a video slideshow of Ghost glass and an overview of installation
Main advantage: real protection, responsive to finger and s-pen, easy install, smooth, clear, and priced very well
Main concern: NONE.
Unique features: hardness comparable to steel
Screen protectors are one of those necessary evils that we fight ourselves on with every phone purchase. We research and drool over the latest super phone with Gorilla Glass 2 screens and beautiful exteriors made of aluminum, ceramic, etc. We'll watch videos leading up to a phone's release that show people attacking the screen with keys, knives, nails, and more all without a scratch. Then after all that we purchase the phone and immediately buy cases, screen protectors, sleeves, holsters, everything we can possibly find to cover up the features we obsessed over and made us purchase the phone in the first place. It's an internal struggle that will go on and on until the first phone made completely out of unobtanium coated diamond is released. Since it's inevitable that we'll go through this, why not make the best of it?
I hadn't heard of MIMEusa before researching this article. They do one thing extremely well out of their New York City location. Mime is a team of engineers from two “major research universities” that are trying (read: succeeding) at creating the highest quality screen protector that I've seen to date. The GHOST GLASS is fingerprint resistant, has a technical hardness equal to steel, and a crystal clear and smooth surface that feels better than the Galaxy Note 2's stock screen. You heard correctly, this is an improvement over the screen that has shipped with over 10 million phones to date.
After install (which you can see more about in the video slideshow) the glass looks and feels like a ¼ inch thin sheet of ice has formed over your screen. The anti chip curved edges and perfectly measured button cutout complete the feeling of a really personalized experience. A lot of companies try to rush to market. You can tell when a screen protector is sloppily engineered to be close enough, this isn't that product. In fact, this couldn't be more perfectly measured for the Note 2. The edges extend just enough to cover but not interfere with any kind of case of bumper that might attach to the edge closely. The aforementioned button cutout doesn't leave a millimeter of space more than it needs. As odd as it sounds (and sometimes looks) I'll find myself just running my fingers along the screen while reading or staring off into space. It's that smooth.
The real reason that we buy a glass screen protector is the protection. If all goes well, during a naked drop with impact enough to break your screen, the protector should shatter and spare the screen. I don't have the resources to fully test this theory, but it seems plausible enough. A 1565 BHN / 9H Hardness rating are a bunch of numbers that show that MIME knows more than enough to make a great screen protector that I easily trust my own personal phone to everyday. 9H is one below the tops of 10H, this is the hardest glass screen protector I've seen on offer. All the protection comes without sacrifice too. No orange peel or rainbow effects, no touch screen dulling, not a single deterring factor. It's very affordable too under $30. MIME is making a strong attempt to win you over and it worked on me. I'll buy their protectors as long as our phones need them.
Until the inevitable day that Google or Apple turns cellphones into floating magnetic halos that project everything into our own personal conversation domes.
Thank you again to MIME for supplying their product for review.
Alternatives: Spigen Steinheil (4H hardness), Xgear Voyager 2 (8H hardness), Seidio Vitreo (9H hardness)
How much: $27.99 with free U.S. Shipping from mimeusa.com
Click here and scroll through the review to get the links to buy the product if you'd like
Is it worth buying: To top everything off, MIME has a Lifetime replacement program that allows you to get a new screen cover for 40% off if you ever find a way to break it. If you're ready to purchase, they are offering free shipping within the US with the code: 12238 at checkout. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE.
ENJOY YOUR GADGETS!
Why aren't you doing real video clips?
So, my comment about MIME. Considering we had a very long thread/discussion about their temp glass protectors with 20 pages and 190 replies and a lot of complains, I assume this is their new redesigned 2nd gen protector. What MIME failed to realize in their original design was that Note 2 screen is curved toward the edges, and because we are talking about 9H hard tempered glass rather than flexible PET film - it will NOT stick to the edges/corners and people had bubbles that didn't go away for weeks. And I remember people mentioning their return policy wasn't great either. Not sure if that has changed (regarding return policy), but they went ahead redesigning their screen protector back in early May, and now from these pictures I see its has a lot more margin from the edges of the display. That's the only right way to do it, following footsteps of Seidio VITREO for Note 2 (my person weapon of choice ). It's a challenge to make tempered glass for Note 2, and even Spigen hang their towel on it.
My question to snapz/Phil, please let us know when all the bubbles going to disappear and how does it stick to edges? I recently talk to someone in another forum who mentioned about still having problems with edges not sticking in a few places.
Mine personally went away within 3 days. I followed the directions carefully and I was very careful. I've used it with numerous cases and it worked great for a couple months of daily use before I had to remove it to test another screen protector.
All communication that I've personally had with Mime was great. Quick responses and clear dialogues back and forth. I can only speak to my own personal experiences through testing. I'm sure that if anyone had an issue and they attempted to calmly and professionally contact Mime and explain themselves clearly they would see a good response.
If you're one of the people who bought a Mime screen protector and didn't receive an acceptable response when you tried to contact them about an issue, then please share your experience here and I will personally talk to my contact and try to get an answer as to what happened.
I've been in contact with engineers, project managers, and CEOs in the past and most companies are very open to real clear honest input.
Regarding the style of video that I post. I can more easily control the quality of the images captured through photo rather than video. Perhaps in the future I'll change to live video, but for now I'm happy with the style I've chosen. I can get closer and use lighting to try to clearly illustrate everything I think you might want to see as a consumer.
I just ordered mine, can't wait to receive it & slap it on my phone, have heard nothing but good things about it, can't complain with the decent price though

My reviews reflect my personal feelings as a consumer after a thorough evaluation. I always do everything that I can to explore all angles and show the whole picture. That doesn't mean that I won't speak truth to you. I'm not a robot, I'm a person who owns and enjoys a Note 2 just like you. You will see my own opinions and ideas peppered throughout. If you don't appreciate my specific point of view than my reviews won't be for you unfortunately.
I'm not questioning any of that, but you clearly stated that this sp is an improvement over an naked screen you didn't say "I think" or "to me it feels", you stated it as a fact. If you want to voice your personal opinions the tell is they are your opinions, but refrain from certainties.

Aside from that I installed the protector & am loving it, it's really smooth & has awesome screen clarity, it adheres to the screen really well on its own & was really easy to install. I don't have much experience with glass screen protectors as this is my first, but I highly recommend it to all of you, if you guys have any questions regarding the protector, feel free to ask me, I'll answer & help out with as much as I can

not all cheap screen protector works with the s-pen. I orderd the iSmooth protector because it was praised by everyone and they said that the s-pen worked perfect with it.

Trust me, I had my doubts as well, but ever since putting the ghost glass on my phone, I love how smooth the screen is now, & the crystal clear clarity, you won't regret it

Are you saying that cheap screen protectors don't work with the spen? I just used my spen through a piece of cardboard so I don't see how a plastic film wouldn't work.

I think more people have issue with some screen protectors that don't allow the s-pen to glide across the screen during use. It will register the pen's contact because it works through magnet I believe, just isn't pleasant or easy to work with. Some matte screen protectors or those with anti fingerprint coatings can cause the pen to "stick" a bit at times from some posts that I've read.
Then just say that instead of saying that the spen won't work with cheap screen protectors. All it takes is 1 misleading post and you'll have 50 people out there swearing the the spen won't work with this sp or that sp.

Galaxy S6 EDGE best protector

Hi everyone,
i'm looking to buy a screen protector for my S6 EDGE. I've been looking around and can't decided which one to buy. I saw Skinomi having good reviews but also a lot of bad reviews claming the application liquid damaged their phone.
I've also looked at tempered glass options but it seems the ones available now have bad reviews.
What's most important to me is to get a good protector that doesn't give the orange peel effect and that will not affect screen quality like rainbow effect, loss of sharpness etc...
But im wondering since this is Gorill glass 4, does it really need a protector? Some people claim they had GG3 phones without protectors for years and have no scratches but then ive read pple who got their S6 scratched in less than a week.

Yes. S6 display will eventually scratched. If you look very very near (hair scratches) at the right angle. One hit of my headphone's metal part did the trick.
Those Gorilla glasses are scratch resistant, NOT SCRATCH PROOF.
And please use the search function.
The best...
How about amazon. I like buy SCREEN PROTECTOR from amazon.
I went to best buy and grabbed Zagg

Yup, the Zagg HD Clear from Best Buy is the best out now.
I've had the zagg...but I got the 'ultimate sheild' full body for 8.99gbp and it's my favourite so far
