Hello! I have strange bug with video playback with HW decoding (YouTube HD, MX Player with H/W+ etc). If I turn off display for 20-30 sec when video playback, after turn on display I have crash HW decoding function (MX Player work only with SW decoding, YouTube can't play HD videos). Restart device fixes this problem. I have this bug with all CM build which I use (CM10.1, CM10.2, CM11), but stock rom and Kinology work fine. Regards.

Have you considered reformatting your tablet and starting from stock 4.4.2? When an issue continues that long a factory restore may very well fix the issue. I'm using CM11 and so far it's been real smooth.

Today I updated my Kindle to 05.08 CM11 nightly and make factory reset, but the problem still exists. Run MX Player > watching a video with H/W+ decoder > turn off display > 15 sec pause > turn on display > video can't be played with H/W or H/W+ decoder, only SF mode. Youtube can't be played HD videos. After reboot all is fine. P.S. I have 2012 KFHD7 (firmware 7.x.x).
Same problem here. Any solution?

Guys, i have a problem with my i9001.
My phone is rooted and i installed the gpu "new" drivers from the development page. I have upgraded from 2.3.3 that comes default when i buy it to 2.3.5 through KIES, not through ODIN, so it's with vodafone ****s or whatever.
Anyway, the problem is the following:
I want to watch some mkv .720p tv shows on it (like dexter, supernatural, etc) and i tried with a couple of players but every single player will decode the mkv in "SW mode" not hardware, so it won't play properly and it will lag. I tried with bsplayer, mx video player, mobo player pro and even DICEPLAYER (the full version).
So, any ways of playing 720p smooth ? i guess it's because of Adreno 205 which is weaker than Galaxy S gpu.
Come on, 130 views and no replies? sorry for double posting.
Oh, and i didn't installed any "speed" scripts like adrenaline shot or whatever.
Fact is i just bought the phone and i don't want to lose my warranty already. Do i lose it when i install adrenaline shot for instance ?
Update: My actual ROM is I9001BUKP2, which is Vodafone branded and my phone is simlocked (most likely).
Can this be the problem ?
Update 2: Very weird thing happened. I put an episode from The Walking Dead, 350 mb .avi to run with MX Video Player and surprise, even .avi LAGS in hardware decoder, but i'm lucky that MX Video Player got S/W Decoder FAST and it played almost smoothly (95%, still little fps drops).
After that, i tried with an episode of Grimm, this time 720p, .mkv but WEB-DL (even more better than normal 720p releases of groups like IMMERSE, CTU, etc) and the HARDWARE DECODER went AVAILABLE this time, but it lags terribly. I tried with S/W Decoder FAST and lol, it worked almost smoothly.
So, what the hell is the problem ?
Could it be my I9001BUKP2 firmware ? it's official, updated with KIES, i guess it's the same as this one on XDA.
bumpy ^^ ........
still bump .... come on :|
Update: I am now with XXKPS 2.3.6, still the same problems. MKV 720p are laggy, and every single .avi movie is laggy in hardware decoder as well. only softare decoder can decode avi movies to be smooth, but 720p still be laggy.
hey guys .. i curently have feamod v.1.3 based on CWM 5 0 2 7 .... what change if i flash 1.4 ? i use cranium RC7 update 1 with kernel v6 cranium 1900 ghz
but i wanna flash broodrom RC2 final but i don'w know what kernel to use... is v6 1900 cranium ok wit broodrom ?
Well then, how about re-encoding your movies using e.g. xmedia recode or SUPER or whatever? Choose a lower resolution. That's a phone, don't expect it to play HD content - on the small screen that does not make any sense at all.
Well, for others it works perfectly, only i seem to have problems. And anyway, samsung is reporting that this phone can run 720p movies without a problem.
@arialth, GET THE **** OUT.

same issue here, i tried a 720p movie on my i9001 and it used SW decoding in mx player.
I noticed one thing though, after installing mx, it didnt ask for any codec to be installed, i expected it to ask me to install the ARM7 codec??
Same problem here, the moment you want to watch a 720p mkv video you can't use HW decoder.
I am using 0.1.0 cm10 ROM from Ivendor with 3.0 Kernel.
Use VLC, it supports hardware decoding of all media formats.

Already tried that, I've done some search around and I think it just can't handle a 720p mkv.
Bear in mind that the I9001 has a better CPU but a worser GPU, so it's possible the I9000 is able to handle 720p mkv better.

Also, Samsung does indeed report that the device can run 720p movies in mp4 or whatever format.
Seeing as they're own video player doesn't have a mkv codec it is possible there just isnt mkv hardware support.
Hi,
I have just flashed AOKP build 23 beta 2.02.
While the ROM is really great, I have one problem:
No matter what player I try, I can't manage to get HW decoding to work.
I searched around and seen mentions of this here and there but nothing conclusive.
Is it an ICS problem?
Has anyone encountered a player that works with HW decoding?
I tried dice-player, MX player , moboplayer and BSplayer with no luck.
Thanks a lot.
Hi !
I'm using Daroon Player, and there are options to set to HW decode each type ! It's free and works perfectly for me !
Thanks!
I will try it and report back how it went.
By the way, I'm using AOSP ROM (ICSSGS RC4.2), but I think it should work on your rom too !
I checked and it didn't work.
Are you sure you are using HW decoding?
Maybe it's a problem with the rom then...
So I checked some more into this problem.
It turns out that dice-player does support HW decoding but only if I don't use the seek.
If I try to move forward, it immediately switches to SW decoding.
Anyone else encounter this?
MX Video Player works very well with HW decoding SW(fast) is used only for rmvb movies.
@CM9 b16 (no matter which kernel).

I've tried a few different media players with mixed results. Was curious what the most stable one people would recommend. Mainly I'm looking at playing videos from my computer over the network.
VPlayer works good, supporting acceleration. Before I preferred MX player, but now have lags during playback. Also tried dice player, can't enable h/w on Nov, so had lags.
I use MX Player. I have not experienced any lag, but I'm not playing back high-bitrate high-resolutions videos.
Rockplayer.
I like ....
BSPlayer Lite for my Kindle Fire HD works absolutely great ......... MX Player hangs and I had to remove it .... however, it works fine on my older Kindle Fire, if I do NOT use the latest version. The latest version crashes and jumps out of the video..
I think the best I've used is the mobo player app. I use it and like the floating window option.

Hi,
I have changed the thread and scope because I think this is a general bug of our razr i.
The playback test are performed on my razr i that has unlocked bootloader, stock JB retail EU ROM, rooted, AIO mod v6 installed.
FullHD video made by razr i stock camera:
Stock video player: lagged playing (not so evident lags, but present).
MX Player w/ HW codec: lagged playing (not so evident lags, but present).
MX Player w/ SW codec: no video lag, but audio interrupts every some seconds.
HD video made by razr i stock camera:
Stock video player: no video lag or audio interrupts.
MX Player w/ HW codec: no video lag or audio interrupts.
MX Player w/ SW codec: no video lag or audio interrupts.
mpeg4 video made by Motorola Defy CM10 camera:
Stock video player: very very lagged playing.
MX Player w/ HW codec: very very lagged playing.
MX Player w/ SW codec: no video lag or audio interrupts.
Download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17467860/razr i/DefyMPEG4.m4v
So, how many of razr i users can confirm this? Is this problem present also in ICS ROM?
Some workaround/solution?
Here the old first post:
Hi,
I have a lot of video made with my old Motorola Defy. All the videos are .mp4 and use mpeg4 video codec: the playing of these videos on the razr i (JB) is very very lagged!
Did someone have the same behaviour?
Obviously the videos are played well on the Defy and on other smartphones (e.g. Galaxy Nexus).
Here one of the video:

Try with Mx Player. Some videos the default player doesn't play it smooth, but with Mx player, the videos are ok.
Already done. Same problem.
If someone can try with the video I linked could clarify if the problem is common or not.

Wirth mxplayer and Software Decoder it runs smooth but not with stock player
Thanks for the test!
I can confirm this. So I thought I bypass the problem using mx player...but...did you try to play a fullhd video made by your razr i with mx player with sw decoder? Every some seconds the audio disappear!
Not so good...I really do not expect all these video playing problem with this atom processor!

ICS or JB? (please, always indicate the ROM used)
About FulHD video with stock player/MX Player HW you have to look well to see the lags for me the FullHD video MUST be played fluent with and atom 2GHz processor!
I must say that razr i plays well some FullHD video downloaded from the internet with MX Player SW and this confuses me more...I tried to find a relationship between the playback problem and the codec used in the various videos, but till I cannot found anything.
About the Defy video, another user confirm that are very lagged with stock player/MX Player HW and since the videos are played well by the Defy and others smartphones for me this is a clearly bug.

Hi everyone,
I'm on official CM 10.1 and when I play WMV video files using MX Player, they play only with SW decoder which becomes laggy if the video is in 1080p with high bitrate. These videos play fine on Stock ROM with HW decoder and of course with default video player.
Is there anyway to import LG video player, video libs or whatever responsible of this to CM to make this videos work properly?

Although it may not solve anything, consider upgrading to the latest nightly also. As of July 12 I saw all my GPS issues disappear, so perhaps your issue was addressed as well.
