Overheating issue - Replaced, Mana. Defect - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

My alarm went off as usual tismorning and as soon as I went to swipe it off, the screen cracked right where I touched. I instantly noticed the phone was incredibly hot, honestly like fire hot; the screen seemed softer than normal. The crack was more internal than external, but the phone still functioned normally. I've experienced hot phones but nothing like this before. I couldn't stand having a brand new phone with a crack.
I took it to the AT&T store right away and even though it's been more than 15 days they replaced it in store without a problem and claimed it was a manafactuar defect. They also replaced my charger wire, as that could have been the problem as well.
Has anyone else experienced overheating on this device? I love this phone but that's just ridiculous.

On my first phone, it'd incredibly hot, the battery would only last about 5 hours with light usage. The right side of the screen popped up from the bezel. Did AT&T email you a survey about why you replaced the phone? They sent me one after I did the exchange it was focused on issues with the phone.

I haven't gotten a survey or anything yet, but I assume I will.

I configured corporate email to connect to my work email server and my phone would only last about 5 hours with light usage. It got very warm but not as hot as you described. After I turned email sync off, both issues went away.

Want Warranty Replacement Droid 3

So my girl's droid 3 has been acting up and want to try and get a replacement but she spilled cooking oil on screen and has a dark spot on LCD which happened early March. That did not effect the performance at all but lately its been going nuts. My question is can I get a replacement and not be charged for the the LCD problem even though it didn't effect the performance? Just want to know if anybody here has had the same incident or something similar or even your input would be nice. Thanks In Advance
Sent from my Paranoid JellyBeen Nexus using XDA Premium App
How dark is the spot you are talking about? Are the performance issues now related to the screen response? Because it kind of sounds like now there are issues with the screen because of the oil incident.. ;]
I had to warranty my D2G awhile back. I declared a few somewhat major cosmetic problems to them as I was a jeweler at the time and had probably damaged it in some way during the course of my work. The problem with my phone had ended up being hardware related and had nothing to do with the damage and so my phone was replaced.
Here's pics of the screen and the problems happened months after the oil spill

But no the problem is that is gets hot and randomly reboots all day everyday the screen works perfectly except for the dark spot on screen

make the background pure black, avoid putting light apps where the dark spot is, and then i would bring it in lol
maybe turn the brightness down a bit also
Well if I turn the light down its too dark and can't see anything where the dark spot is at. But that's not the problem I want to know can i get a replacement to fix the over heating problem and the random reboots that happens frequently. I have no problem with the dark spot on screen

Well if you bring it in and tell them about the spill, they will probably tell you the overheating & rebooting is from that and im pretty sure spills are not covered by the 1 year warranty. And the spill would void the warranty im pretty sure also.
If you have insurance they will replace it though.
You could always go to the store and see if the rep will let you exchange it. You might get a nice one. It's unlikely but withholding info I think is fraud.

Looks like that dark spot is over the cpu... I'd try saying the dark spot was caused by the heating issue and maybe not mention the cooking oil...
^^^^^^^
I second that. Tell them that one day the phone got really hot in her pocket and then this screen dark spot appeared. She had been dealing with it 'til now, but she's finally sick of it since these new issues arose.
I could also try that to just don't want to send the phone in and they open it and see oil inside and they charge me for a whole new device even though it happened months ago. Does anybody know where the water censors are or the only one is in back of phone?

Just go in and they should replace it their if they have any in stock. Or they might offer you a different device.
It doesnt matter if it happened months ago, technically this would VOID your warranty. Like said above your best chance is to bring it in and say the it kept overheating in your pocket since a few months back and started noticing that dark spot.. If they did check the water sensors and they WERE TRIPPED then they wouldnt replace it, because that would void your warranty.

Phone gets hot

Have you guys noticed that this phone gets hot fairly quickly during use? Also seems to suck the battery down pretty fast, too. By product of faster processor compare to the Note 2?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Haven't had any issues. Everything is comparable or better than note 2 with the same usage patterns so far. Going to try some games (like Nova 3) and asphalt to see how it does.

Mine certainly gets pretty warm with regular use. Battery also is not what I was hoping for. I am new to android and the note phones though so am trying to mess around with changing settings and such.

I have a thin case on mine. I notice no heat whatsoever. Also, I've never had better battery life. I use the hell out of it, too. My Note 1 and my Captivate were power hogs, though. That's all I have to compare it to.

Personally, i love the battery life on this phone. Thats coming from an S4. I used to have to put my S4 on the charger before the end of the day because it was in the yellow. Thats from around 740 in the morning til around 6 in the evening. Now, on the same usage, with the Note 3, by around 9 at night the battery is still sitting around 50%.
Wow, any special settings you are using? I am already charging my device today as I was bellow 50% with only a little over 2 hours of screen useage.

There has to be an app running amok, or you are in a bad signal area, or you have every possible setting on to be charging that often unless you have a bad battery. I usually get about 4 hours screen time over 24 hours and usually have 45 to 50% left. Just did 24 hours with 4 hours screen, 2 hours music listening while mowing my yard and downloaded 2.5 GB of data over LTE and had 39% left.

I have a lot of the extra settings turned off. I have power saver on for screen management. Wifi scanning for apps is off. Bluetooth on only when I need. Screen brightness set to auto. Phone is running stock ROM, no rooting. It often feels warm around the camera area. I have been consistently running out of juice by about 12 to 13 hours of use. I don't know....

Pretty much the same settings as mine. I leave GPS on always. Do not use the power saving management features.
Try going into developer options and limiting the number of background activities to 3 or 4 and see if this helps any.

No issue here either.....phone is alot faster...battery life is insane....i have never had battery like this with my note 2....i can run for days without charging....great device...highly recommended........you might have a bad unit....you figure they push these out so fast...your bound to get a few duds...i would return for new one.....just my 2 cents.....
I've had no issues with mine but my girlfriend has had a weird charging issue once. In the middle of charging it stopped and said that it was over heating. Thought that was pretty odd seeing as how she wasn't using it at all.

unbearably HOT
Today I was listening to mp3 music off the memory card and noticed the phone got unbearably HOT and battery drain was around 50% in less than 2 hours.
This is normal usage and it should never get warm for playing mp3 music.
I am curious to know how many have a heating issue.
Looks like mine is going to be replaced.

There is most likely something running in the background causing this. I listen to mp3s for several hours nonstop off my SD card without any heating issues. Try killing all apps and clearing memory with the task manager then run the music app and see if the heating issue persists.

Well, for the last few days I was not happy with battery life and was getting a lot of warmth on the back as well around the camera. Last night I shutdown the phone totally and rebooted. Had a few updates pop up for some Samsung apps when the phone booted up. Today, battery has been quite stellar. No real warmth either. I am at 70% charge at end of the day with 11 hours on battery and 2 hours screen time. Interested to see if this continues tomorrow. I would recommend shutting down the phone and reboot to see how it goes.

My s view original Samsung case exhibits very strange behaviour, when I plug in my charger the s view comes on for 5s then off then on for 5s then off and repeats until either I open the cover or unplug, then when cover closed again it goes through sane cycle, plus I too have massive battery drain - it is the wireless charging cover

Returned mine after the first day. It let's a little light in and screen will come on, thus draining the battery. It's junk until it gets broken in so it stays closed. Even then though it still won't stay closed enough to stop the screen from coming on randomly.

YES it is the s view ive gotten my note 3, on the first day the battery was AMAZING it lasted the whole day with the s view. But then the next day came and it started dropping, i asked my friends (they have the note 3) and they said theirs lasted sometimes 2 days!

I purchased the s-view cover that supports wireless charging. I went all out and purchased one of those hardened "real glass" screen protctors, and reading up about how the s-view doesn't quite close all the way, I also got one of those small magnetic clips that attaches really NICE to my s-view cover.
I'm telling you guys, it's the BOMB! I never ever need to actually plug my phone in anymore. I just set it on its wireless charging pad every night. The cover always stays closed, and since it's an official one, I just simply open it to turn on my phone.
never really notice any battery drain though.

[Q] Unable to recharge

After my watch shut itself down in the night, because it ran out of juice, I can't charge it anymore.
I put it on the craddle and it shows the white battery symbol for a second after ist crashes and the screen turns black again. This happens over and over again.
It seems that the watch wastes that little power it has gained while the screen was off when it tries to show the white (and therefore power draining) charging symbol.
How can I save my watch? Please help me.
Greetings and thanks in advance

I can not accept this. This watch is advertised as waterresistant. I did not even shower with the watch. It is just about a half year old.
Shame on you LG

Sharp battery drops. Problem with device, rom or battery?

I regularly have scenarios like this.
- phone is at 27% battery
- few minutes later it beeps and shows 14%
- 30 seconds later - 5%
- few more seconds and it shuts down.
I don't run anything special and through the day it lowers steady (although 100 to 27 in 12 hours is not that great).
I run official 5.0.1 rom and never unlocked bootloader.
So is it a problem with a phone, the battery or just OS that sucks?
Anyone else having the issue?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Most likely it's the battery. Have you looked to see what is using the battery in settings?

Nothing unusual running. I think Android OS was main battery user, may be with hour and half of screen time.
In this specific instance I was running Toyota app while driving.
But similar things happened before without those factors. And mostly it worked ok in the car as well.

Sorry I forgot that was in your OP. Did you look at the battery to see if it was hot or bulging even slightly? Personally for the $15 it takes to get a new battery, I would. Worst case scenario is you end up with a spare. I don't know how old your device (and this your battery) is, but it's not uncommon after 9+ months for them to start dying.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Yes, it probably makes sense to get new battery. I got the phone last November or December but problem started early summer. Seems pretty short time for battery to go bad.
Thank you

It's not unheard of by any stretch. Heat will kill them fast as well. Does the phone ever get hot?
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I haven't noticed it being hotter than other phones I used. Yet I carry it in external pouch so would not always feel it.
It definitely wasn't hot when battery was dropping.
More over, last time I turned it off for 3 hours at 14% and when turned it on, drop just continued and it was 5% in 30 seconds.

I got not only a new battery but a new phone and have been experiencing a similar problem. Seriously might just jump ship to the N5. Any suggestions on what else to try? I really don't want to shell out $20 for yet another battery if it's not guaranteed to fix anything. I'm running PopRocks v14 with the stock kernel. Any suggestions?
I had the exact same issue. It was from letting the battery die too often. A new battery fixed the issue 100%
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
That's true. Running it down to 1% all the time definitely shortens the life. I'll try to find the article I read that interviewed battery scientists.
