Does anyone know how to fix this from happening? I'm running stock odexed rom with faux123 Kernel. It happens with any wifi network. Thanks!
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I am also having this problem on stock. I have installed various Xposed modules, as well as Pry-Fi, but nothing seems to be related to the problem.
Edit: Looking at the reviews for Pry-Fi specific to the Moto X, it seems to have some stability issues with this phone. Turning it off has fixed my issue.
Linked Review
I'll try contacting the developer.
Edit 2: Looks like I won't be using Pry-Fi anymore. The app is dead in development. Looks like the project was not enough of a success.

You might try "WiFi Inspect" if you are looking for an alternative to Pry-Fi. It is a root app, but I haven't experienced any issues with it.
Good Luck

I don't think you understand what Pry-Fi did, because WiFinspect does NOT do what Pry-Fi's main feature was.
From WiFinspect's Play Store page:
...the app is a security audit tool and not a hacking tool.

Pry-Fi is a hacking tool. That is, it hacks your Android.
From the Pry-Fi Play Store page:
While you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network, the MAC address will constantly be pseudo-randomized, following a pattern that still makes the trackers think you are a real person, but they will not encounter your MAC address again. This will slowly poison their tracking database with useless information.
When you do connect to a Wi-Fi network, unless you specify otherwise, your MAC address will also be randomized - the same MAC address will not be used the next time you connect to this or any other network.

Try to find another app like that. I dare you.

This statement would appear to be correct. My reply was a genuine attempt to help you by sharing an network penetration app that has been useful to me.
Pry-Fi is a hacking tool. That is, it hacks your Android.
From the Pry-Fi Play Store page:
I don't think I would consider changing my MAC address to be 'hacking my Android'. But even if you do, there are multiple MAC address changers available on the market. While they wouldn't randomize your MAC as often as Pry-Fi, they are still useful at concealing one's identity temporarily.
Try to find another app like that. I dare you.

You seem to have gotten -really- excited about this. Looks like similar functionality will be integrated into the next version of iOS:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/10/ios_wi_fi_mac_address_trick/
The Pry-Fi app was created by one of our most Senior and respected developers here at XDA. It was just released in 2014, and was only ever released as a "proof-of-concept". To call his app "dead in development" and "not enough of a success" is rather insulting. Probably, like many of us, Chainfire only has 24 hours in his day and with family and work, has limited time to spend on such "proof-of-concept" projects.

Why do you think I was saying it wasn't a success? I loved the app. It is well made.. But the discussion was closed, and people were saying "it's dead", so I thought that development had stopped. I wasn't mad at you, or anybody for that matter. Sorry. I need to think about how I'm saying things before posting... seems I was misunderstood.
I didn't mean to insult anybody. I also believe Chainfire is a very respected developer. He made SuperSU, for goodness sakes, not to mention many other heavily successful apps.
And yes, maybe "hacking" is saying too much. I was too quick to reply, and I apologize.

Don't worry about it. I know there's a lot of that out there. My brain explodes on threads I see on the internet where the OP author asks for help with a stupid question, the helpers try to tell them that it isn't possible or doesn't work that way, the author responds with insults and stupidity thinking they know everything, and then flaming ensues... It's dumb.
N00bs will be n00bs, I guess.
I do apologize, myself. I was probably a bit harsh with my first reply to you. I thought you were pointing me to WiFinspect to be a replacement for Pry-Fi. (you said "there are many apps like that, so I thought you were talking about Pry-Fi)
I probably should've looked at your username. If I had, I would've known that you knew what you were talking about. I've seen you around. I would recommend not red-fonting in the future, though. That might make some people think you're yelling at them, to be honest. Just some advice.
I, personally, own everything I love. I know freelance developers don't make much off their apps generally, so developers can count on my contribution, as well as bug reports instead of a Play Store review (honestly, does nobody know the developer can't fix the problem if he/she doesn't experience it themselves?).
I'm ranting here, but I'm just saying that I share your views.
But in any case, was I wrong in assuming that Pry-Fi is dead? I would hope it isn't, because it is an awesome app that also didn't eat that much battery while running in the background. I want to file a bug report, if it isn't dead.

Thanks for the reply. The most recent comment Chainfire has posted regarding Pry-Fi suggests that it is definitely not dead, but that because of other commitments/projects, it probably won't get worked on this summer, unless other Devs wish to develop it further. Good news is that although Chainfire himself admits it had "virtually no interest" (as you mentioned before), the new iOS feature that mimics some of the functionality has somewhat 'renewed' interest in it. I look forward to seeing updates possibly by this Fall. I've heard Chainfire rant about how much of a headache "SELinux" is causing to root app devs. It would seem your speculations about interest level were spot-on, but thankfully Chainfire suggests that he is not giving up on it.
I agree on the red-fonting. I often use red to highlight important steps in many posts, but in this case I do believe it was inappropriate.
And finally, I should apologize to @Swimboy46163 for somewhat 'hijacking' his thread...

Democracy No... never thought that at all...
Community YES. It even says that on the front page. A pettition isn't a demand, a threat or a power grab. It's not even a threat to your authority Jimmy. It is however a way of the comminity expressing an opinion to those who actually do have the authority and responsibilty of running xda-developers. Running a site such as XDA has to be an amazing amount of work. And the admin team are awesome :approve:
Now if those Admins actually do have very sound reasons for not doing this then fair enough. If those reasons are given then we can respect the choice even if we may not agree with it. If they were to say no, then it wouldn't happen (until they said yes)
However that isn't the situation that we seem to have here. Even with reasonable amount of searching I can't find any Admin actually saying anything about the subject*
*if such a post does already exist about "No to an Omnia forum"** from an actual Admin then I'd really love to see it. If "Sound reasons" are given in that post from an admin then I'll respectfully apologise and eat my words. If Multiple posts from Admins exist, with the sound reasons, then i'll even post the video of me eating those words.....

I never said that I thought this shouldn't be done. I never said I felt my power, what ever THAT may be, was threatened.
But It has been said repeatedly with EVERY device that was not HTC made that was suggested that, no there will not be a forum.
I just don't want you guys getting your hopes up, if this works out for you guys, great. But don't get disappointed when the pattern of rejecting non HTC devices continue.
Was I a little flip in my post? Probably, but that's my personality.

And If I sounded antagonistic towards you in any way, then that wasn't my intention either.
If it happens then I think it will be of great benefit to XDA-developers and to its members. If it doesn't happen, well nobody can say we didn't ask for it.
Why don't you create a forum oustide XDA (if not already available, I won't search it as I don't need it).
I mean why absolutely living here . If the Omnia community is so huge, it can be huge in an other place/forum, it doesn't need this very forum!
I think the whole point was to join a community with the sound basis of this forum as a place to bounce ideas back and forth across platforms regardless of manufacturer with the hope of improving the devices of everyone.

That's where you thought wrong. This forum was created specifically for HTC devices, and HTC only. Honestly, think of how many different devices there are out there, do you really think it's possible to maintain that many devices? Looks like you just joined, so I imagine you've seen very little here, as have I in only a few months, but everytime a new non-HTC device hits the market, a few people ask this same question, and receive the same response. Then the thread dies down after 2-3 weeks, and everything is back to normal. There are reasons why this forum sticks to HTC only, and I'm sure it's not going to change every time a group of people get a different device.
So, I'm not sure where you got your idea of the community, but just with any other forum out there, it's information and users are directed towards one general idea, and this one happens to be HTC devices.
There is another big Forum dedicated to the Samsung Omnia:
http://www.modaco.com/category/342/i900-omnia-http-i900-modaco-com/
It is very sad that xda-developers will lose importance due to more and more non-htc devices being released (Samsung, Sony Ericcson...).
Can all developers please share some information regarding job interviews?
I would like to know how to improve myself in a interview for development and how to improve my answers in order to make myself more appealing.
Here are some questions that i've been asked and would like to know how to improve the answers too:
1) When you need help with coding, what do you do? - what sites do you use? - How do you approach a solution?
2) When do you approach you senior developer?
3) How do you keep up to date ?
4) Give me an example of when you solved a difficult problem using PHP (or whataever language)
Basically many examples need to be given, not sure how to answer them.
There are other questions that I'll ask when they come to mind.
I need some input guys!! or at least guide me in the right direction please

If I do go for a site, I first use Google and anything relevant to what I'm already trying to do to solve the problem. If Google doesn't help, or the answers are too vague and I need something more specific then there's no better help out there than StackOverflow. If you don't know it, get to know it
Also, see the next question.

Learn to prioritise. There's nothing really more to say about that as it's a personal experience thing. Make sure you keep notes of every task you need to do and mark it done when it's done, no matter how trivial it seems. You get better at it the more you do it.

This is obviously a very personal question that no-one can answer for you. I'm not gonna tell you about any projects I've worked on and had to deal with problems because there's no point. If you give it as an example they'll only ask you to expand on it and you won't be able to. Besides, it's all well and good trying to impress, but don't out-and-out lie at an interview. Basically, they just want to know that you *can* solve problems. Tell them something where you learnt something that you were able to use again - it shows a willingness to learn, the ability to understand there are things you need to learn, and that you can grow from such a situation.
Other than that, be confident and remember that they've got you in for an interview because they're already interested. Also, it's not a 1-way street. They might be arseholes that you'd never work for. The interview is as much for you as it is for them.
Not sure if any of that has been any help, but they're my honest answers anyway.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on

In that case, tech blogs with RSS feeds. I use iGoogle as my home page both at home and at work and it has different feeds on there for different bits of tech (web development, windows development, mobile development etc..)
Also, I think confidence is best when it's natural. If you've not got it yet then just keep getting better at what you're doing and you'll eventually get it. I've been doing it a long time now so only get a slight flutter of nerves at interviews. It's normally just a case of answering questions honestly and asking a couple of good ones back and I get the job. There's a lot of people out there doing development work, but not that many that have stuck it out and got actually good at it. Stick at it and you'll become a valuable commodity!

I think I need to do something like this. Also, is it productive for developers to be on G+? Is there a benefit?
You know the answer to the question about solving a problem was to go to the original source, like wordpress has their own codex/reference site. Php has theirs, jQuery and all that. I use those site but didn't even consider stating it in the interview.

I plan to stick at it, since its putting food in my plate but I need to get better since like yesterday! Its been my life since January, really focusing on it but now trying to get a balance in my life back again.
Do you have any advice or pointers that you'd like to share from your experience please?
Thanks for your time Archer
Here's a list of the feeds I have on the "development" tab of my home page...
MSDN .Net Blog
Android Developers Blog
Visual C# News
Windows Phone Developers Blog
jQuery Blog
Just have a search for blogs that are relevant to your interests and most of them will either work as an RSS feed direct, or will have an RSS or Atom link, both of which are perfect for iGoogle (or other RSS readers).
I do use G+, but not in a professional capacity at all. To be honest though, I don't use any social networks for anything professional. I probably would if I had my own business and needed to market myself, but I don't so it's just not relevant.
As for pointers, the only thing I can really say is that when someone presents you with a challenge, look at it as an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skill-set. I've seen many programmers respond with "Yeah, you can't do it like that. We'll do it like this instead." That's bull. There's virtually nothing you can't make your computer or website do, with just some imagination and perseverance. And it goes without saying, the more you enjoy it the better you're likely to be at it.
So what field are you going into? You said you've been doing it since January, but I expect you've been doing it a lot longer than that. Is this your first time developing as a career?

I know - I saw it this morning when I opened my browser and immediately thought about this thread lol.
I'm gutted as it's the perfect home page for my needs. All their advice about getting weather widgets and looking on the Play Store for replacements has got nothing to do with having an RSS reader home page.
Thanks for the extra links - I'll have a look through them.
EDITED per Admin's suggestions:
Hey xda,
I wanted to make a thread for people who are not as developer-savvy as others to share ideas and make requests for mods/roms/etc.
If a request or idea could generate enough feedback or support, developers would be more informed on what people would want or like to see.
Here are two things that I would personally like to see on my Nexus 4.
On your homescreen, when you press and hold the home button to go to Google Now, is it possible to add shortcuts and or folders to the extra space around the ring? This would allow the user to clean up some screen space by hiding frequent shortcuts.
Also, I would like to see app-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. This would allow a user to easily unlock their phone but still have the security they would want for their messaging, facebook, etc.
Thanks for reading.
I'll maintain this thread as best I can and put the best suggestions below.
Best Ideas as of January 02, 2013
Ideas will be added to this list as support is generated.

i have used it for a year now. first on att gs2 and now on nexus. in my opinion... it is the supreme rom.
I don't think that XDA is here to have users make requests?

Wonderful. I'm going to get AOKP this week then. Is this exclusively on AOKP? I haven't seen it elsewhere.

probably not blatantly as this thread , but people have made requests occasionally.

rom control should be built into most every rom. the features they stick in rom control are different though. i would imagine they all have the navbar deal. its best to flash a rom. find its features and then wipe and add a new rom. and keep going until you find the one you like best. after you find the right one... spend the hours it takes to set up your phone the way you want. for instance.. all of this talkin has caused me to want to throw cyanogen on here to see what those guys have been up to.

There's a big difference between posting direct requests in the development forums and posting a thread in the general forum for collecting ideas you think might be cool to have developed one day. There's nothing wrong with this thread and it's not bothering anybody. It's certainly more useful than the hundreds of threads that occur at every device launch complaining about one hardware defect or another. As an amateur developer I think threads like this are cool places to look for ideas that might be fun to tackle.

except for the am dev part. i dunno devving.
So i was browsing the thread and i came across this, and from the title alone i was ready to shut it down......
But i as i read in to it i had to change my mind. The OP is not blatantly making a request to any specific dev. They are simply stating things they would like to see. Now i know this isnt a place to make you phone look cool and i am obviously aware of the rules. But bedoig brings up a very valid point. Some of the amateur dev's might see this as an opportunity to dig in a little deeper. This is not in the development boards and no one is making a specific request from any of the dev's, so i see no reason to shut this down at this time.
However, since i do not normally moderate this board, then i welcome this boards mods _Arjen_, iridaki, eagleeyetom, YZ, TeeJay3800, Diamondback, AvRS, krook6023 to sidestep my decision if they feel the need to.
@oneonezerosix you may want to consider changing the title of your thread to something that sounds a little less demanding. The Dev's here might take it the wrong way (just a suggestion)

requests? no (although ive made my share of requests)
suggestions? sure, to an extent
XDA is here FOR the developers not for the average consumer to pressure devs.
as most xda OG's would say: if you want it done, do it yourself...
if you cant.. then try to learn and get the ball rolling and a dev will probably help you along the way.

After reading the post, I can understand your perspective. All that I ask is that you attempt to understand mine as well.
Zelendel stated that, "XDA is a place to come to learn and share your knowledge."
As an amateur developer, I do not know how to develop much of the things that I wish to be able to use. It was my sole intention to facilitate a discussion of new ideas for development from varying levels of skilled members. Even the best developers can dream of new mods/roms/kernels/etc that they may be unable to produce by their own means. Which is reason enough for one to want to request the assistance of others by posting in a thread like this.
If you do not see any value in this thread, then I apologize for wasting your time.
I am not a Dev and get offended for them when someone says "please add this".
But this is a recollection of ideas, honestly, what's wrong in that? Where would the devs be with no ideas?

I agree. This is an "ideas" thread, not targeted at a specific developer. A dev may take this on board and incorporate it, as they might think its a good idea

hi @rovo89
as far as i can see your last post regarding lollipop/art was on 22nd october. and yes, i read all the relevant posts. i'm not asking for eta but for just any kind of information, like
"i'm on it"
"i'm not on it"
"i gave up"
"still dealing with selinux"
"stuck on some problem"
"real life is more important at the moment"
"most parts (don't) work"
just something...
thanks
Did you read this post?
You will see that he asks that nobody asks about it and rather just waits until it's done.
Please, just wait until he decides to make a post on his progress himself. Can you imagine the pressure of people constantly asking for progress reports? It isn't fair to place someone under that pressure, in my opinion.
Sent from my C6603
yes i read it. i read every post regarding art. i know he doesn't want to be asked(and yet i still do). and no i cant imagine pressure arising from progress reports once or twice a month which can be as long as one sentence.
but i can imagine the pressure of people who want to see an art-compatible xposed as soon as possible or who want etas.
i'm not asking for any of this. and i'm also not demanding because i'm completely aware of the fact that he doesn't owe anyone anything. but i still think it would be quite reasonable and not too much asked to give us a sign of life regarding the process once in a while.

Eh I wouldn't hold my breath really. Its simpler to assume that he has given up and get used to lp w/o xposed. Essentially the only thing I personally will miss is the NLP wakelock limiter that I have atm. The rest is superficial (the nlp limiter on the other hand is essential thanks to google's awful coding)
And yeah inb4 the wave of fanboys (xda is a terrible circlejerk really) shouting you down and telling you that asking for anything (after getting baited into waiting...) is a crime of the worst sort and evil of the worst kind.
./yawn
He literally said that he would work on it after retail L released and wouldn't post anything here until he had something at least partially working for other developers to be able to assist in development. That post is here and explains the challenges in getting Xposed to work on Lollipop.
Reading the available information and understanding it, then not bugging rovo89 or wanting him to be driven off by impatient people doesn't make anyone a fanboy, so please let's keep this civil. Thanks.

Sure, but being someone's whiteknight certainly does. (Seriously lets face it there will be more and more people begging for xposed as time rolls on and more 5.0 roms turn up - are you going to reply to them all?)
Besides he said in no uncertain terms that he's not sure he has the motivation to bother. Nor is he sure he can deal with the new SElinux restrictions. At least last I checked.
Thus my statement: Easier to assume it won't happen and then be happy if it does
I'm not needlessly protecting anyone, rather simply providing information to somebody as I'm supposed to as a RC, so please let's keep name calling out of it and keep it civil like I already asked. Thanks.
I'm going to leave this discussion, as it will probably escalate and my original intention was just to link to the post that rovo made that may have been missed, not to start a debate.
Cheers.

PLEASE HELP ME! my phone is "rooted" with 3 third-party apps my BF installed!
I noticed that my nexus 6 was acting funny, and since my boyfriend purchased this phone for me- he set the entire thing up. The day it arrived, he plugged my phone into his laptop and started typing away at what looked like a black screen and a boxy white font with a bunch of rom codes etc(at this point, i was totally clueless and oblivious to what he was doing)...
Then, he would sporadically bring up specific texts that i had sent, and at times would randomly pinpoint specific addresses and times and asked me about them(mind you, they were my friends homes) which left me to wonder "how the hell did he even know about that text or specific location unless my phone is hacked??"
so, i took my phone to a specialist who confirmed that my phone was rooted with a custom ROM along with 3 third-party apps "kernel adiutor", "pure nexus", and "xda labs".
Once i called tech support for my phone, they said they couldn't help me because they're third party apps that are not legal to use in the first place.
long story short, his mom confirmed recently that he in fact has my phone hacked. can somebody please give me insight on the apps he installed and the purpose they serve?? what kind of access/capabilities does he have now that my phone is rooted even if i restore my phone???
Kernel Auditor Xda labs and pure nexus are not phone hacking apps Xda lab is app by xda community and Kernel Auditor is for tweaking the kernel and i think Pure Nexus is a Custom Rom for the Nexus
If you want to get rid of this you can ask service centre to flash Stock Rom of Nexus phone

Follow the instructions on the webpage. Doing this will wipe your phone and put it back to 100% stock.

You have a very *very* serious problem.
As khanboyz007 says, the apps you mention are entirely pukka, totally normal, nothing suspicious.
But...
If you can't trust your boyfriend so much that you have to post for help from anonymous strangers, then your problem is far deeper than your Nexus 6. From the technical side of your description, he's done nothing at all wrong, but from reading between the lines you don't trust him, and *that's* a dealbreaker.
Why are you asking us instead of him? Give him a chance to explain. Maybe there's nothing more sinister than you (clearly without any technical knowledge... sorry...) don't have your phone password-protected and he's just looked at your texts - in itself a breach of trust, but still not justifying posting in a public forum to strangers.

I wouldnt say that at all. If he can tell where she has been and what text she is sending then he installed one of the many monitor apps onto her phone which is illegal.
My advise would be to completely wipe your device. Flash a stock rom and dont let him touch your device.
As for your personal life no one can or has any right to say anything about that. Do what you think is best.
If he knows the locations you've been at its possible he has your google+ share location set where it's shared with him. Or possibly he had set up an email for you on it and is signing into it to track your location. As far as the apps you mentioned they are %100 percent legal, most carrier don't know anything about rooting or custom Roms and will not give you adequate advice. But as they said, you can just flash the stock image, make your own Gmail to sign in or make sure to change your Gmail password. After you do make sure that that you put a password on your device that he doesn't know.
"then he installed one of the many monitor apps onto her phone"
Isn't that what I said...? No trust. This isn't in any way a technical question - it's about their relationship.
And since I've seen your many posts here over the years I know you've got a fair amount of life experience, in which case I can assume that you know of Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is likely to be the correct one, and the simplest explanation here is not that he's installed a monitoring app but is simply looking at the phone. I stand by my comments.
"no one can or has any right to say anything about that"
Yes, I agree, it would be none of my business - *if* she hadn't asked for my advice (as well as yours).
If she has so little trust in her partner, and has asked for advice (technical or otherwise), then the answer has to be "Look very carefully at your relationship".
(P.S. To avoid the inevitable "sexist" comments, yes, I've assumed it's a female poster, but I'm aware that there are alternatives).
To be honest I think it might be a moot point as he is most likely part of this forum and has seen this post.
Then he's got the message...
Or this is just a prank. Like I'm getting private messages from people who haven't even posted yet to fix their phones.

Yes, that same thought had occurred to me. I give the benefit of the doubt unless there's a clear sign that it's a joke, and this one does come close to the edge...
A lot of effort for a not-funny joke though. It would be good if the OP provides some feedback - I do get very fed up with people asking for advice, which is given maybe by half a dozen people who have taken the time and trouble to provide it, only for the OP to vanish into the ether without so much as a "thank you" button press.
Step one, flash the phone back to stock using the links provided eariler posts.
Step two, dump the loser - he is too controlling, and this will never change...
Now that the personal advice has been given, let's bring this thread back to troubleshooting device issues, not relationship issues . Thanks for your cooperation.

Your friend has set up your phone the same way as he should do for himself.
There nothing wrong with rooting and the apps you mentioned.
My idea is that ask him very friendly to flash the latest official stock Rom.
Tell him that you prefer the official rom of Google.
Because you want official support when there is something wrong. And you don't need root acces because you only use 'normal' apps.
As everything there are disadvantages.
A rooted phone allows you to install layers. That makes it possible to choose dark themes. And that's important when you need a better battery life.
I Bet he's using Cerberus. Go into your settings>apps, select to include system apps. You'll be looking for a app name: system framework. If you see this He is tracking you using Ceberus, . This app/service is pretty awesome. I was able to track my phone down, see the texts sent, turn the mic on and listen to where my phone was at. .
Like everyone said flash a new rom. clean slate. Then dump dude, there should be no need for that crap.
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en

to me, a "specialist", it sounds like he did you a favor, by rooting your device, and adding apps that you will need to control your own phone. your "own" i say because otherwise you are just using someone elses device, that you happened to pay for with your money. so, instead of posting a pissy thread, id do a little more research on how to control your own phone, and then tell him thank you.
oh, btw, just because the apps arent from the play store, it does not make them illegal to use, at all. you can use whatever app you want, from wherever you want, LEGALLY.
I'm coming round to istperson's point of view - this thread is beginning to look more and more like an elaborate pointless hoax, and not a very funny one.
There are far too many of these threads where people ask a question and then disappear without the courtesy of a sign-off or even a "thank you". Very discouraging, and makes me less keen on spending my time here trying to help timewasting ingrates...
I'm gonna close this thread for now. If the OP has anything else to add they can contact me again to reopen it.
Not all apps are legal. It really depends on where you are living. As an example. Things like keyloggers, call recorders (depending on local laws) screen recorders and things of this nature are completely legal in some countries like China, while being completely illegal in other places in the world.
Also installing tracking software of any kind on someone's device is also illegal.
We have to remember that many people search for help on something, reg to the forum to get the answer and dont come back until they have another issue. This is becoming far more common as of late.
