Does anyone know, why 4G is not working with CM11 with SGS 3 LTE version? I just tried to flash another radio, but there was no help found. Or is LTE not available yet in CM11? Is there also any way to have screen rotation in CM11 on desktop? How about battery drain? When I used CM10.1 i could use my phone at least two days, maybe 4 with less use. Not battery life is around one day.
Thanks in advance.

First of all, what version of CM did you use? LTE is no problem generally speaking with CM11. But make sure you have the right APN-settings for your operator. The last nightly I tried was 040828 and with that one I had very stable connection, both on 4g and 3g, and when switching between them.
Battery drain differs sometimes from nightly to nightly, at least it has done for me.

I'm using CM11-20140509-nightly. Now the battery drain seems to stabilized with this nightly. Never had working 4G with CM11. In CM10.1 and CM10.2 it was fine. Is there possibility to have 4G connection problem because my network provider? I'm from Finland and using a network from one company which is a daughter-company of bigger one. The smaller company uses bigger companys network. Could the problem be with national roaming (in 10.2 i had to check the allow national roaming and 4G worked fine, in CM11 there is no such button - at least I couldn't find it)?

The big operators in Sweden does the same thing, with daughter companies for the cheaper mobile plans. But that hasn't anything with national roaming to do, at least it's spposed not to. That should be dealt with on SIM-card level I guess.
My best tip is to verify with your operator what APN you should use for 4G. With some nightlies that hasn't worked automatically, so I've had to mess with them manually to get stable connection on 4G.
4G is working fine for me, currently on the 0508 nightly.
I had to change the APN to match Vodafone's, but it's working.
It's been while since had this problem - it actually is solved. I just had old fashioned SIM-card and operator didn't even offer me new one for LTE and I paid full price of LTE for months. But got new SIM now, but no money back from those robbers. I think they should give proper SIM cards for customers which are working with the connection deal.

Hi guys,
I have a Nexus One purchased from Google last year. I only started using 3G this month with Vodafone Australia. My battery drains ridiculously fast on 3G compared to 2G. On HSDPA("3.5G") network with everything off (including data) it uses 5-10% per hour standby. On 2G it drains less than 1% per hour. Using a battery monitor app I can see that 2G draws less than 10mA while 3G draws 25-100mA.
Since on 2G battery life is very good this should not be a problem with any software running in the background. I also tried the following with no help:
- Dial *#*#4636#*#*, set to WCDMA only instead of WCDMA preferred, and select radio bands to AUS BANDS
- Upgrade radio to the latest Korean version
- Force the phone to use UMTS instead of HSDPA network by editing build.prop
I tried both the stock 2.3.4 ROM and the latest CM nightly, but the problem persists. I really want to take the full advantage of 3G and leave it on all the time so this is very frustrating to me. I can use Toggle2G to automatically switch to 3G when screen is on, but that's not what I really want. I know although 3G uses more battery it should not be that dramatic. After all the specified standby time on 3G/2G are 250/290h by Google. With 3G my phone won't last even a day purely on standby.
I also wonder if it can be a problem with the network. My signal strength on 3G is around 2 bars - not particularly bad. It almost never loses signal. If anyone can post a ROM/radio from Vodafone Australia for me to try out that would be greatly appreciated too.
Thanks all!
2 Bars of Signal strength might be one of the reason that battery is drained faster. As the signal is not that strong enough, it keeps searching for stronger signal and results in faster battery consumption.
Personally the radio version '5.12' wasn't satisfactory. I prefer 5.08 version. (Signal strength, speed, battery...)
I recently upgraded from CM 7.0.3 to 7.1.0 RC1 and noticed battery life is much better.
So I am going to suggest a few things you might want to try:
- Downgrade the radio to 5.08
- Full wipe and flash CM 7.1.0 RC1 (or a different custom ROM)
- Try a different kernel (I personally like Cyanogen kernel though)
- Uninstall Task Killer if you have one installed.

Hi zephyr, I previously had CM 7.1.0 RC1 with radio 5.08 and the Cyanogen kernel but the problem remained. I also tried to put my phone near the window, where it has 4 bars signal, but the battery drained just as fast. Thanks for your suggestions though.
I know T-Mobile in the states screwed up something on their network a few weeks back. In doing so, it caused massive power usage on devices when using 3G/4G. I wonder if Vodaphone Australia did something to their network as well...
http://androidandme.com/2011/08/news/is-t-mobiles-network-killing-your-battery/
install current widget, and take logs of your current draw in mA during idle to see what's going on. do an overnight test, then during the day. post your logs.
So I just stumbled across this thread. I've been having the same issue on my Desire, it started suddenly a couple of weeks ago. In 3G mode my phone drains about 120mA. In 2g it drops down to 4-8. I've eliminated all the usual suspects by doing a factory reset (using the CM7.1.0RC but have also tried the latest nightly build), so no apps running in the background, and tried different versions of the radio. I am also with Vodafone in Australia. One thing that I have found is that if I go into Phone Info I can force the phone to make an EDGE connection by choosing the "AUS2" frequency band, and with an EDGE connection I get the good battery usage. But if I choose "AUS" or "AUTO", the phone makes an HSDPA connection and this drains the hell out of my battery.
Just wondering if the OP has had any joy with this?

Alas it's not the data, this happens even with the data turned off. It's something to do with the baseband connection.
It's not data here either.
This just started happening on my 100% stock unlocked N1 about 2 weeks ago. (ATT)
Most of the time at work I'm on WiFi, yes the signal (cell) is very bad in my office. Has been for a long time, something else is strange.
No extra tasks running, nothing new installed.
Gets piping hot when on the charger - sucks juice like crazy when off.
Checked data log - nothing unusual transmitting...
What sort of area do you operate your phone in? My phone used to drain like mad inside my house (perth- vodafone) and in areas with spotty coverage. In my house my reception would be on the very edge of 3g with no bars and EDGE, constantly switching between the two. Do you have your wifi policy set to on while sleeping? Provided you aren't out and about all day, that would help, though i assume if you've had the phone that long, youd have changed the wifi sleep policy by now.
My wifi is always on - never has changed.
It gets hot at home where there is good reception and at work where there is crap.
I've had the phone for over 1.5 years and this just cropped up.
I rooted my wifes N1 and she doesn't have any issues...

I'm also in Perth, on Vodafone. I get a pretty decent signal strength at home, and it seems to be happening to me wherever I go, unless I'm "lucky" enough to get an EDGE connection. This started overnight, almost exactly two weeks ago. I've been speaking with Vodafone about this at length but not really getting anywhere. Yesterday they swapped my SIM but it didn't make any difference.
Yep, wifi is set to never sleep.
I bought a prepaid SIM card from another provider a few days ago. I only get a UMTS connection with them, but still the current drain when idle is what is considered "normal", 4-6mA.
One thought I've had is that maybe I never had an HSDPA connection before but recent network upgrades have meant that I'm suddenly getting one. Still, 125mA is way too big a drain and seems to indicate something wrong with the phone.
The last test I can think to do is to swap SIM cards with a friend who is on a third network, who gets an HSDPA connection. He has a Nexus One and gets very low current drain. At least that way I can be sure of whether it is or isn't the network. We're doing that tomorrow so stay tuned
hello every body
i have this problem with my nexus one when i am connected to 3g service (umts, hsdpa,Etc'). i can't make calls or receive any calls, i can't use the internet (data) or get sms and Etc'. but i have full bars reception. when i check the vi in setting to "use only 2g" the phone work great.
i tried everything downgrade/upgrade roms, radios. i tried to go back to my first backup and even do PASSIMG but nothing help i googled it every where but nothing
please some one can help???
without 3g the smartphone is useless
thanks,
shushkis
What network you on? I would at least see how old the sim card is.
Lots of time if you have an older sim card it just can't handle a newer system.
I am connected through Orange IL
and i tried switching sims even with other networks.
and more the phone worked fine at the beginning it just happened i remember i switch to one of CY roms and it happened
Have you tried a full wipe and reinstall the rom?
yes of course i tried customized roms and stock roms but nothing helped
I would check your apn settings...
apn connected to taking or getting calls?
i thought it's just for internet connection
Its just a guess.
If its a problem on multiple ROMs, its likely to be either hardware or settings. Settings are cheaper and easier to test, and that's the only setting I can think of...?
Of course, doing a full wipe (including system), installing a new ROM, and testing before you restore any apps and settings may be another way to test, but since the apn settings are pre-baked into most ROMs, it wouldn't rule our the apn...?
OK I tried to put apn settings and it didnt help
you say hardware?
but when I check in settings "use only 2g" the transceiver works great .
maybe the nexus have two transceiver one for 2g and one for 3g?
seems un-logical
No there are two radios one for 3g and one for 2g because 2g is for calls and 3g for data but when 3G is unavailable the phone will use the 2g for the data.
The Same Trouble
shushkis,
I have the same trouble, my 3G connection works so bad, but if I use only 2g connection, all works good... I have no idea what happend with my N1. I have a N1 for 3G 850 (AT&T) model.
Thanks for advantage.
So maybe the problem is the hardware? if the N1 have two inidvidul transcivers?
I have also the same problem. I've tried many different roms and radios. I use 900/2100 3G. What's strang is that 3G works perfectly at home, but when moving to another tower I get emergency calls only warning. 2g works fine.
I just started having 3G issues at home. With 3G on the phone reboots like once an hour, but on 2G I've gone days without a reboot. My 3G signal is not the best at home, but I don't know why that would make the phone reboot. I'm on T-Mo USA.

The one I'm using is only a couple months old, and it works well in my Desire HD, and my Moto Defy. It's only the N1, but I guess maybe it could be that. I'll look into more.
If it's only a few months old, then it may nor be the SIM that is the problem. I suggested it because a number of T-Mo users were having similar problems after a recent network upgrade, and a new SIM seems to fix the issue for most...
I thinking about buying D4 as my prime phone. I already find out that It supports GSM and how to unlock this feature. But is it worth to buy this phone to work on GSM? I noticed that there are many issues with it:
- not working callout on 3G on Android 2.3
- Verizon lockscreen that wants to activate phone
- problems with APNs
etc.

Yes! It's definately worth it!
The 3g callout problem is a temporarily thing, I'm sure of it. We're still playing with settings and drivers to fix that. In the mean time I use my phone on 2g for voice and 3g for iinternet. With one press of a button I can switch between 2g and 3g (There's an app for that )
The verizon lock screen pops up only once. Once you skip it, it doesn't return until you reset your phone to factory defaults.
Problems with apn's? Depends on your provider. I didn't have any problems at all.My apn settings were transferred automatically to my D4 when my provider detected that I was using a new phone. Even after installing different roms.
I'm using my D4 a couple of weeks and everything still works like a charm.

Mainly I work on 2G because of battery saving (it last for much longer!). But bug with callout has been patch in leaked ICS and what I heard it don't have Verizon stuff installed. I can't wait that some CFW ICS would use its libraries and kernel.
Unfortunately for now I can't afford on buying it because last 10 days jump over 10% according to my currency so it, when previously it had very good price then now it isn't.
I love it. I'm in Canada on Bell Mobility and everything works perfectly on Gingerbread, including outgoing calls on 3G. I think the voice issue is only affecting those within the USA on other carriers such as AT&T.

Isn't it the same?
Also, I wanted to use this phone on AT&T in the US. I just have voice and texting. Will this phone work for me?

Hi there,
did you have the chance of direct comparison to the Droid 3's signal quality, 3g speeds and call quality? I may consider importing it, but still not sure.
THANKS
It seems to work just as well as my Droid 3 did. The only issue I have is that the Droid 4 seems to underreport the signal it is receiving in the status indicator, the highest signal I've been able to see is 3/5 bars but it still seems to perform as if it were at 5/5.
I'm sure it is just tampering by Verizon and doesn't hinder the device's operation at all. I haven't tried any of the AOKP ROMs yet but will report back once I get a chance to install one.
Thanks for the reply!
Thats interesting, it's like the Droid 3 cheating on us that the GSM Signal would be very poor. Would you please have a look in the build.prop if there is a value ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone and set it to 0? Then prove if the signal gets better?
News about Droid 4 GSM unlocking this summer:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/05/2...er/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Interestingly enough, in the ICS build just leaked that has global support enabled by default, that value is set to 0 in the build.prop.
I am in the US and a VZW user, so I can't test the GSM radio performance on the D4 because they have disabled it for US carriers via another band lock or other mechanism.
I have been dumping and comparing the NVM of the various builds to try and isolate any critical differences to find the key. It may not, in fact, be in the NVM at all, but elsewhere in the radio image.
Just an FYI.

There is difference in voice codec (on 3G you should get better quality, but it also depends on the second side). Also at 3G you can use front cam for video conferences.

Yeah, the first thing I did once I could was look at the build.prop settings but I noticed that ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone is already set to 0, with a note in the comments above it that "the definition moved to cdma_maserati.mk to support different config for factory", which suggests that maybe their tampering is a little more hard-coded into the Blur interface.
Hi guys. I have an S3 4g (i9305T) bought unlocked here in Australia and it used to display "DC" in stock form whenever it was downloading data - play store, browser etc. Was also quite fast considering the 3G virgin sim card I'm using. I have since flashed a few ROMs, settling on SlimKat 4.4.2 for the time being (battery drain using pacman was crazy!) Now, the phone is working perfectly and I don't really want to change but I've lost my dual carrier (DC) data connection, having to settle for the much slower 3G, H+ type of connection.
Any suggestions much appreciated guys!
Using my N6 on Verizon, I frequently get messages that I have left my home and dont have data roaming enabled. I don't understand because my note 3 had no problem with Verizon. If I turn on data roaming for data might incur charges from some other provider? On the status bar it used to say either T-CDMA or Verizon Wireless, now it says 3100. My SIM is the same one I used in the note 3. If it matters I am using Liquid Smooth ROM and Franco r2 kernel. Voice seems to work. Any suggestions are welcome.
I'm having the same problem. I have to keep going back to stock to get LTE. I've tried liquid smooth, validus, and bliss pop and all gave me roaming and no LTE. All are their latest builds too. I've also tried popping in and out the sim card with reboots as well.

That is exactly what I am seeing. I'm on WiFi 99% of the time but when I leave the house I have no data.
Good ole Verizon making it impossible to do anything without them approving first. Its probably because Verizon doesn't want people to use the phone on their network before they release it.
They've never been good about nexus though. If you don't recall the whole galaxy nexus debacle
I had the galaxy nexus on Verizon but don't recall them interfering. I do hope that once they offer the 6 that our network access is unfettered, or the community will figure out how to make it work with custom ROMs.

Your roaming goes away? I can't run any ROM without roaming on Verizon...
I noticed this issue on CM based ROMs. Any that are stock based are not effected by this bug, for me at least. I have spent a couple of hours trying different things out that people suggest but none of them have worked. I was able to get 3G to work on liquid, but no LTE. and it reverted after a reboot. I sure hope someone can get this fixed soon.
im running cm12 on my n6 and using verizon and it works perfectly. No issues.
on Bliss Pop the Status Bar icon is NOT roaming but if you pull down and check the tiles it says roaming. I dont think its actually roaming though...LTE Discovery tells me I am still LTE and so does Network Signal Info.
So I think its just in the UI.

Well, I cant swear to it for sure, but I from the apps I have I am still attached to the same cell tower, so not sure how that would equate to roaming.
LTE Discovery also shows as roaming, but all the other info also shows LTE. Same for Network Signal Info.
IANAL , but if your attached to your normal home cell towers, it would be hard for us to be roaming I would think....and hope
It may have to do with LTE vs 3G. When not on LTE it says 3100 (or 31000?) and that bus when I am "roaming". So confusing. I've gone back to stock rather than Liquid Smooth. I will try an AOSP ROM like Pure to see what happens. Although I'm not missing much on stock.

I have same kind of problem too. Im afraid the bill will goes up by this.
Please let us know if there is a fix for this
Yeah same problem... I don't get why some Verizon users agent having the same problem. Would unrooting and doing a factory reset maybe fix the problem? Frustrated that I can't run a custom ROM without roaming...
Go take a look at your bill/usage online and see if things are showing as roaming. like I said mine looked fine. And it seems like an issue with quite a few roms from understanding.

I just tried out Broken and it has working LTE on Verizon! I'll have to look at my bill, haven't been on a custom ROM with roaming in effect for very long though, so I probably wouldn't be able to tell very easily.
I have a Stock Rooted, Unencrypted N6, with a few custom Tweaks. On VZW have not had ANY issues whatsoever with my service or LTE. Perhaps some custom ROM/Kernels might be causing these issues?
Stock seems to not have the issue. It is said herein that AOSP based ROMs don't either but that is not true in my ecperience. LTE Discovery says 31000 is Verizon Wireless so I believe that even though it thinks it is, it isn't roaming from VZW. I enabled data roaming and switched back to Liquid Smooth and I should be alright. Thanks to everyone for the insights.
