On of the first things I got my HTC One M8 was download the Google Camera APK. I like it much better than the HTC camera. It's quicker and simpler to use. I am wondering if the google camera knows how to take advantage of the M8 Dual Cameras though. anyone know? I would switch back to the HTC app to take full advantage of my phones hardware.

One way to tell would be to take a pic in google and then go see if you can "Process it" with the DUO functions.
I doubt it will work. But it's possible.

You cannot add any of the HTC effects that use the extra lense to a photo that's taken with the Google Camera app, so I imagine right now, it doesn't take advantage of the extra lense. Google Camera does have a new feature to blur the background, where you take the pic and then slowly move the camera up. I think their effect looks much better than the u-focus HTC effect, and Google Camera blur effect is adjustable for how much blur you want.
However I'm the opposite as you. I like the HTC camera interface better but like the blurring feature in Google Camera.

Hi guys
I've regularly switched between CM and Sense as I try to find a set up I'm happiest with, the thing that keeps pushing me back to Sense is the camera app. I've just flashed the CM7 Nightly and I'm going to stick with it, my question to you is "Do you use a replacement camera app and if so, which one and why?"
Many thanks
Matt
ive used CM to, and switched back to sense ui for the same reason as you did... i stick with sense though... feels better for me
Dont know any good Camera app...
Vignette. It's basically hipstamatic for Android.
Just google it or look at some streams on flickr, you will not be dissappointed.
Camera 360 is awesome, even the free version although I think I might actually buy the paid version soon.
Also try FxCamera, worth it just for the Toy Camera mode. My favourite photos taken with my old Hero were with this. It's not a serious replacement for the stock camera app though, more of fun app like Vignette.
I also have CameraPro but I wouldn't recommend that a it's not much better than stock and used to f/c too much.
I couldn't live with a non-Sense ROM. For all HTC have got wrong they've got so much more right when it comes to the look and feel of the UI. I'm a sucker for the settings widgets too
Dear munkimatt,
I recommend " Lg camera " application. It can both take photos and record videos. Also there are plenty of settings improve the quality. you can download it directly from the Market. hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
i need sense camera app, gallery app, music and mail app to stick with CM
vigniette is the best replacement so far but i've tested it and i can confirm it doesn't produce as good results as the stock camera app
PROTOCHIP where can i find this LG camera?
Hey all,
So I've thought of using my android phone as a gunsight on my airsoft g36, and so far, I've gotten away with the standard camera app, and a plastic sheet with a dot in the middle. However, an app that uses the camera and overlays a cross or a dot that is moveable would be nice! Particularly if the camera can be soft-hacked to see IR light more readily. Let's see if anyone cooks something nice.
Regards,
Eliwu26
Sorry to not really answer your question, but you have an airsoft G36 too?? Awesome, man! I have a Classic Army G36E. Really love that thing. Hasn't seen any action in quite some time though... Pretty sad, but I haven't had anyone to play with around here.
But have you tried looking at some of the camera apps on the market? Some might have some random things you could throw on the screen as guides or assists for taking pictures. And with the stock camera you could press the screen to put the focus box at a certain part of the screen. Only problem is that it could fail to focus if you're moving too much... Hmm...
Yeah, too bad it's only an Echo 1 though. But it does have a 6.03 tightbore, a silencer, and a custom doublemag hicap I built. The camera app's square is much too big for aiming. As for nightvision, I tried taking apart the camera, but the darn lens is way too small to take the IR filter off. Maybe someone can soft-hack or cook something for us.
Oh very nice. At least it's still something. I actually got some new mags for mine too. The hicaps they give you are just annoying. Got like a box of 5 170-cap mags that are spring-fed.
As for the camera, it might not be too hard to go into it and just edit the actual pictures for the square in the .apk itself. I might even be able to have a look at it...
I am interested in trying to take 'raw' images with the HTC One, and copy the data to my PC for processing using Adobe Lightroom.
Specifically, I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and have just ordered the HTC One Google Edition. I found a thread here of someone working on a similar idea, but it's in a 'developer' forum so I can't as there...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316860&page=2
At any rate, my goal right now is somewhat different. I'd like to simply capture the "data" from the image sensor, which is what a raw image is, and copy it over to a computer where I have all the tools available to process it.
First step is simply to find a way to capture, and then transfer, the image data.
Second step is to try to get Lightroom to accept the data.
None of this is instead of using the camera application just the way everyone else does, creating 'jpg' images. That's done in-camera, and apparently it's done very well (although I've read that the "sense" HTC One does it better sometimes than the GE edition). With a raw image, none of this would matter - the computer would work with the image data, giving us a chance to manipulate it as we wish.
Any advice or suggestions?
+1
John
Haven't seen anything for capturing RAW around here. First time I've seen some one mention it or suggest it. I would be extraordinarily happy if someone were able to figure out how to capture in RAW. Would be the best thing ever to happen to the One IMO. At least for someone like me, and I guess you maybe as well. This is something HTC really should have added in themselves I'd they wanted to sell the camera on this phone. Photographers would eat it up. Though I'm sure Samsung would copy the feature as quick as they could.

Old thread but +1 this would be great.
HTC One is a smart phone with a camera, I would be extremely surprised if it's possible to get raw image data.
Are there many stand alone compact camera that even offer raw image ?
I thought this was a feature more associated with professional or serious amateur dslr camera.

Sorry for Grave Digging but if you still need raw see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2753946 tested on one s and HTC one m8
Hi,
So stock moto camera app kinda sucks. Can u suggest the camera apps u use, and why u recommend it? I skimmed the forums and found Open Camera is kinda cool, I'll give it a try.
Let's make a list of good camera apps, best if u can try it for free before buying (or maybe there are some decent without having to pay?).
Snap Camera, i find it's UI pretty and taking good pictures (although it costs i had to bring the app up)
A Better Camera Unlocked is a pretty good one.

I have a XT1096. I love this phone. The Nexus experience and Moto Voice is all great, but man is the Camera app UI horrific. I can see what they were going for. I think they wanted some originality to phone camera UI but it ended up only being more inconvenient to use. Especially when I ask a stranger to take a photo for me, it's a nightmare. Are there any ported cameras or something that will make this UI simpler and more generic?

If only for photos, Google's latest camera from the Nexus works, but it crashes if you launch video etc.
Otherwise, Camera MX is a fairly good app.
Tried to download the Moto G4 Camera apk, but couldn't get it to install. Maybe someone can work on that?
For me though, the Moto camera as it is has survived simply thanks to its double twist to launch gesture, if not it would've been long replaced.
HTC Camera from the HTC 10 works just fine. You can find the apk here on xda. The only issue I found is that HDR is very inconsistent, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I ended up switiching back due to the fact that I rely on HDR way too often.
